"Finding halal options in the vast cornucopia of the Houston barbecue scene can be overwhelming. Thankfully, Chuckwagon BBQ & Burgers in Katy offers halal versions of its signature brisket, burgers, smoked chicken, beef ribs, and hot links. Know before you go: burnt ends are served exclusively on Fridays, while the barbecue joint’s “Dino” beef ribs can be ordered from Friday at 5 p.m. through Sunday — or until they sell out." - Brianna Griff, Brittany Britto Garley

I wish I got photos of the cute little wagons that you have the option of eating in, but the food was amazing. I would for sure recommend the fries and getting the brisket! Their sweet tea is a nice natural sweet, and it's a perfect low sweet for customers to sweeten to their preference! The employees are awesome about offering service. Thank you to the cooks for making such amazing brisket, fries, and sausage! It was a filling meal for sure! Thank you to the front counter staff for their hospitality skills!

Google
This is the go to spot for BBQ in Houston! Chuckwagon BBQ is a spot where meat lovers go crazy! The brisket is so tender and juicy, and the Dino beef rib is like something out of a meat lover's dream. But what's really awesome is how friendly and helpful the owners are. They made sure we knew exactly what to order, making the whole experience super easy and fun. If you want amazing BBQ and friendly service, Chuckwagon BBQ is the place to be! Make sure to try out their Beef Hot Links and Peach Cobbler!

Google
Fantastic Food!!! Couldn’t be luckier having such a great place so close to home. Sometime I have to wonder what some of these people, reviewing this place, are even thinking. I usually am a person that get the same thing somewhere when I find a good place and a good dish, however at this place I feel I need to try something else because I enjoy the food so much. The brisket is usually has right moister, the sauce is really good and I am a Carolina sauce guy, the sausage options are awesome, the bakers are perfect every time. My brother was in from Nashville so I brought him here and he loved it and was super excited because he said bbq out that way sucks. Will always go here. Solid place !!! Keep up the great work there guys!!!

Google
I have to admit. I've been kinda sleeping on Waseem Hilal and Chuckwagon. Quite possibly the largest beef rib I have ever been served. Definitely deserves the "Dino" name. I really enjoyed the flat rate pricing for the rib, verses by the pound. Flavor was great and the bark was soft and amazing. Uh yeah, it's up there among my favorites. Pork belly burnt ends are flavorful and the fat is rendered just right. Hands down a solid meal. The wagon booths really make you feel youthful. Maybe even take you back to a childhood memory of a lunch with grandpa.

Google
If u r interested in paying $37 in a beef rib that is 90% fat, this is the place for u. Both dishes in the picture were a total of $71 Service was beyond bad. Waited 40 minutes for a sausage order and this $37 all fat rib. I had to dig into it with my own hands to try to extract the little meat this thing offered. There is a difference between fatty juicy ribs and all fat cheap ribs. Never going back

Google
Loved the presentation. Food was good for the most part. But I was disappointed with the brisket, it was pretty dry. We had some turkey (not shown in picture) it was a little dry as well, but had good flavor.

Google
Came by to try out the BBQ. Was not disappointed. The food was delicious. Dino rib was great. Brisket was quite good. However, the best thing I had was the Fried Rib Tips. They were super addictive. Got one portion to dine in and one portion to go.

Google
The food is so good. The burgers are real meat patties seasoned very well. The burnt ends are my favorite! I can't forget to mention how nice the staff is. It's my favorite place to eat in Katy.

Yelp
This plate got me feeling like i smoked a whole root of ayahuasca. Now l'm dancing with the uncontacted peoples' lineage in the 4th dimension. You don't understand how good it was. I no longer have to I graft my own skin off and suck on it like an Amazonian tree frog just to feel something. Chuck wagon has healed me.

Camille M.

Yelp
*dry ribs *Mac&cheese watery *false advertisement on the ribs *salty potato salad *salty green beans *brisket- some pieces were too fatty and others were too try *too expensive * not worth it *service OK

Lauren M.

Yelp
Went here for lunch on a recommendation from Katy Fort Bend foodies group. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table so I'm not sure how to comment on service. The guy at the counter wasn't super helpful considering we told him it was our first time. The fried rib tips and potato salad were the only redeeming things on my husband's plate. The French fried potato was delicious- fries were good and crispy and the portion size was very big. I was super let down by the hot cheeto burrito though. Cheetos seemed stale and soggy and there wasn't a ton of flavor. Overall I'm not sure I would ever come back sadly. Brett's BBQ is much better IMO.

John M.

Yelp
We ordered ribs and brisket for take out on Father's day. We also had the award winning banana pudding which was great. All the employees were friendly as well, offering us some iced tea and lemonade while we waited for the food.

Kevin Q.

Yelp
Food is amazing, probably the best burgers I ever had. 3/4 lb combo was amazing as well.

Edis M.

Yelp
There's no word to describe the food there except unreal! So don't think about it just go!

Mady C.

Yelp
We ordered about an hour before close. The food was good, a little on the dry side. That could have been due to the time we ordered. The bbq sauces they had were delicious. Brought the food back to life. Peach cobbler was a nice way to round out the meal.

Jerry H.

Yelp
Great spot for great bbq! Order at the bar then take a seat. Portions may be a tad bit smaller than expected but the quality of the food is great! Service was great! The vibe is really fun with booths that look like carriages from the old west. A great touch! I'll be back!

mary a.

Yelp
We were in Houston for a band competition. I was a little hesitant because the restaurant is in a strip mall. The food was good. The service was excellent, and it has a cute atmosphere. The best part of my meal was the banana pudding.. excellent pudding!

Moni T.

Yelp
This is a very unique place to get BBQ, love how they decorated the booth as a wagon, it feels so Texas. We love the vibes of this place, as soon as we walked in, the father and the son greeted us with enthusiasm and welcoming energy. As we enjoyed our meal, another lady came to offer our baby food and said hi. It always feel so good to visit a family-owned restaurant like this. The food was amazing! We ordered: Pulled pork, along with two sides. The meat was so juicy and tender, paired with their phenomenal BBQ sauce, it is heavenly! We also got a chopped brisket salad, it was one of the best salad I've ever had at a BBQ place. The portion size is huge, it comes with hard boiled egg, two types of olives, avocado, juicy brisket, buttery croutons, shredded cheese, and cherry tomatoes. If you want something a little lighter, this is it. This is such a feel-good BBQ place to visit, for your belly and your heart.

Ryan T.

Yelp
There's a lot I could say but I don't feel like wasting anymore time on this place. The brisket is the top 5 worst I've ever had. Dry, no smoke, looked and tasted two days old. The loaded baked potato was okay, fries were solid, burger was underwhelming. Thin patty, piled with chopped brisket that looked good but lacked flavor. For nearly $30 I was expecting something a lot better. Staff was nice but seemed like they could have used some help. The covered wagon tables are cool and add a rustic kind of feel. There are a lot better options in Katy.

Tracy C.

Yelp
Okay. Nothing special. Pulled pork had an unchewable bite in it. Hubby really liked the brisket. Ambiance was nothing special. Got so smokey inside that they had to open the front door and we had to shower right after eating! Guy working counter was friendly, but I'm much more concerned with the food, which was only okay.

Laurie O.

Yelp
This BBQ joint is located in a shopping center. You go to the registers to order. My hubs and I both had Brisket sandwiches. They were delicious. You can choose to have spicy BBQ sauce or regular. After ordering there is a small refrigerator section where you can choose toppings such as onions, pickles and jalapeños. It is also a self serve for iced tea and sodas. They also sell glass bottle beverages such as coke or Topo Chico. The bathrooms were okay, not super clean, but not bad. The servers were very nice and over all restaurant was clean. We would come again.

Maddie B.

Yelp
Love me some bbq and was desperately craving a brisket sandwich. The sandwich comes with fries and is a good size. I thought it was really great and tasty. Definitely satisfied my cravings. The wait for the food was just a bit long but the food made up for it

Jazmine H.

Yelp
Food: we both ordered the 2 meat plates with moist brisket and boudain & sides were mac & cheese, green beans & corn. 5/5 Brisket was SO moist and boudain -you could taste the wood they smoked it with. Hands down the best BBQ I've ever eaten at a restaurant. For dessert we had the banana pudding -it was too sweet for me but my husband enjoyed it, I think next time we'll try the peach cobbler. Service: 5/5 Will definitely return and highly recommend!

Edith T.

Yelp
Taste good but boy the next day it wants out. You will definitely know you ate BBQ the next day by smell alone.

W W.

Yelp
Food Quality: - Grass-fed brisket! Not grain-fed. Meat is lean with minimal fat. (5 Stars) - Corn is tasty, but a little on the salty-side. (4.5 Stars) - Sweet potato fries are delicious. (5 Stars) Service: friendly staff. (5 Stars) Atmosphere: old country vibe with the music a mix of country and oldies (50s-70s). (5 Stars) Overall: 5 Stars

Christopher S.

Yelp
KATY, TX / AMERICAN BBQ / 04-23-22 / TAKEOUT DINNER +The ribs were okay. A little on the salty and dry side. +The customer service was friendly. -The beef brisket was dry. -The BBQ sauces could use some improvement. -Like the other reviews, the meat just didn't taste fresh and both, the ribs and brisket were really dry.

xyz y.

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal service and lovely food. Came with my wife and we will definitely return soon.

K T.

Yelp
Great burgers and surprisingly amazing TX BBQ. Hard to believe tucked back in a small strip center. Brisket is top tier. I often get it on a bun.

Sally L.

Yelp
The burger was dry and had no flavor. The lettuce was wilted and looked old. Was not edible. Very disappointed.

Carolyn H.

Yelp
It was our first time coming here and it won't be our last! We tried the brisket, the hoedown (?) burger with fried okra, greens, and sweet & spicy sausage. Everything was so yummy!!! The employees were helpful and kind, and the we loved sitting in the cute wagons! The restaurant was clean too!

Samer R.

Yelp
Pastrami Reuben Sandwich, BBQ Tacos, and Hot Cheeto Burger all were on point. This is a must try BBQ spot if you're ever out in Katy.

Christina K.

Yelp
We got take out. Pulled pork tasted like it was a few days old in overcooked sauce. If I eat there again, I'll try something else.

Rob S.

Yelp
We went today for a late lunch. We liked the ambience when we walked in, covered wagon booths are a nice touch. I had the brisket and sausage with green beans and fries, my wife and daughter had burgers, 1 with fries and the other with onion rings. The fries and onion rings were phenomenal, and the green beans were amazing! The girls loved there burgers! I had the regular sausage. It was good, nothing really stood out about it, but I didn't expect it to, I got the regular just to see there normal quality. The brisket was great. Only reason this wasn't a five star review, is on the brisket, one piece was dry, as in shoe leather dry. Not sure how that came out of the same cut. We'll be back!!

Danny R.

Yelp
Ordered dinner tonight to go. A couple of burgers and sliders for the kids. My kid's sliders were either burnt and had no seasoning. My wife's burger was totally wrong, and my burger was pretty lackluster with little flavor. The fries were also subpar. Pretty disappointed, and I was the one who suggested this place over a fast food restaurant.

Luisana D.

Yelp
The best burguers ever!! everything us good and tasty! the service is the bestc the prices are ok!

Kevin L.

Yelp
Terrible, food, terrible service. I would not waste my time or money! We have tried several times and the results are the same, so with that said we are not going back again!

Zachary B.

Yelp
Food is good, I really liked the secret menu hot Cheetos burrito. Don't bother calling them to place an order. Pregnant wife wants "chicken but not fried chicken". I called to ask how they prepared the chicken for the plates and the guy who answered the phone seemed to think I was a prank call or something. I asked if they still had chicken (because I waited on hold at another place only to learn they didn't have any left so I called here) and was told they did have chicken, so I asked how it was prepared. The guy started laughing and sounded like he pulled the phone away from his ear to talk to someone else and then the phone was silent for several minutes. No idea if I was on hold or not but I waited a few minutes and then hung up. I called back 3-4 more times only to listen to an infinite ringing. Damn shame. Update: Been here a couple more times since my off day. The manager spoke with me on Yelp. I appreciate the effort the manager puts in to keeping his customer service quality high by following up with customers. I wasn't given compensation and I'm not seeking it, I only want my favorite places to improve.

Lynda B.

Yelp
Soooo disappointed. I don't eat at Chuckwagon because it's pricey. That said, I USED TO love their burgers. Tonight was a total disappointment. The burger was so-so. The pastrami didn't taste like pastrami, and the "sauerkraut" lacked sooooo much. The onion rings and sweet potato fries were soggy/greasy. The carrot cake was ok - small portion compared to competitors. The boudin was good.

Jaime C.

Yelp
soooo good! Drooling still! Gotta try their burrito! The banana pudding was so delicious too! Tried their ribs, brisket, and chorizo/fajita sausage, all was fire ate every bit. Keep up the good work guys!

Karen T.

Yelp
Delicious bbq baked potato! Portion was huge (yay leftovers!). Staff was friendly and we were served pretty quickly after ordering. Even my pick MIL enjoyed everything! Will definitely be back.

Tim F.

Yelp
We were out house hunting and the realtor recommended this place since it was close to the area we were in. The food looked great and everything smelled amazing! After sitting down to eat, I noticed that portion sizes were a bit small compared to most other BBQ joints I've been to with the same price range. I ordered the 3 meat combo with rib, sausage, and brisket while my wife order the same but had pulled pork instead of brisket. I was shocked when I saw it was literally ONE rib and was super disappointed in its dryness. My wife was a little confused (and so was I) and the pulled pork. The pulled pork was extremely dry and tasted more like beef than it did pork. The bbq sauce made both the pulled pork and the one rib bearable. I wouldn't recommend this specific bbq joint to any of my real bbq friends due to the taste to cost ratio when there are other places that will meet their needs. Also, the soda machine seems to be growing something on it and might need to be cleaned. I give the food a 3/10. I give the establishment a 3/10. I give the soda/water machine a -9/10.

Thomas C.

Yelp
Wow. Just wow. The food was outstanding, and the service was great, the cashier Jacob in particular was efficient and kind to all of the surrounding patrons. I would really recommend this place to all the people of Katy!

Debbie M.

Yelp
Great burger and chopped beef sandwich! Sweet potato fries and fried okra were tasty. Nice polite staff! My husband really loved it all!!! Lol he loves beef! We will return!

Lescine F.

Yelp
I every time I order from here the food is excellent & always to my specifications. I've never be disappointed!

Timothy H.

Yelp
As some of the other two stars have pointed out, the meat here is pretty dry. I ordered ribs and brisket, the brisket was dry and the ribs were just meh- on the same level of maybe a decent grocery store rib. I'm surprised this place is rated as high as it is as I regret buying my lunch here. Honestly felt a little sick after eating it as some other people have pointed out. Overall, this place is pretty disappointing and deserves a lower rating.

Basim M.

Yelp
We tried this place several years ago and loved the burgers and the barbecue! It really worth it.

Aishah M.

Yelp
Decided to try this place out as we were told it's better than our favorite BBQ spot - Pinkertons. It was okay...... not the best bbq, but not the worst. We got their brisket plate, and their Dino rib. The brisket was okay. A bit dry, and not the juiciest I have had. Pinkertons still is the best in my opinion. The rib was pretty good. The meat didn't fall off the bone which is the test of how tender the meat should be. Yah know??? This was a far drive for us, so probably wouldn't go back.

Sir G.

Yelp
Not bad bbq. Wrong end of Katy for us so quite the drive. Place was kinda empty. Two kids running the front of the house. We got a mix of everything. Honestly not bad at all. Try it out.

Vince C.

Yelp
Bbq was average. I did expect better considering we are in texas. The prices were boldly very high for the quality. It took forever for us to get our order, slow.

Kris A.

Yelp
The owners are very personable, we all had burgers, which were amazing. My husband is a bit of a burger snob and doesn't like to pay high dollar for a "fancy" burger. He's all about the quality of the meat and fresh toppings. They nail it. It's clean and has a fun old town feel to it. If it wasn't a 25 minute drive for us, this would be our go to for our hamburger fix.

Steph B.

Yelp
Good barbecue and, burgers served in a hall style restaurant with booths and picnic tables. My first experience with Chuckwagon happened during a business event where the sponsor arranged for my choice of touchless meal delivery. I had driven past the restaurant but never stopped in. My credit covered $40 for meal + delivery and tip. That gave me room for a bacon cheeseburger with fried jalapeños and a side of coleslaw. There was still room on my credit so I added a side order of boudin sausages. The food arrived just as the Teams meeting opened. Oh Lord that was a meal! I ended sharing the sausage with the rest of the family. Once inside the restaurant you find yourself in a campy hall with six or seven booths that look like the wagons in the movie Westward Ho! Spaced around the rest of the indoors and out front there are picnic tables for family seating. Thursday's is their Pastrami Brisket Ruebens, the Ho Down Burger and the Brisket Sandwich with spicy barbecue. All were great but I still think you need to go to a NY deli to get a true Rueben.

Oscar R.

Yelp
Great place with even better food! I am always greeted with a smile when I come in and the service and food is always great! I ordered the Hoedown burger, It is a mouthful but it is sooo good!! The BBQ Sauce is great! You can tell that is homemade, This is a great example of Texas BBQ and I will continue coming back!

Shajuti H.

Yelp
HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE HOT CHEETO BURRITO! I really appreciate the halal beef and chicken here, and loved even more the fact that one of the owners came in and said hello to all the customers. The carriage style seating is also fun!

Hieu T.

Yelp
I don't really like to leave bad reviews unless it is warranted, but I think it is in this case. I live somewhat nearby and I always wanted to try this place. I go in yesterday to order a 2 meat BBQ baked potato and I opted for the burnt end beef belly and jalapeno cheese sausage. I paid for it, tipped 15% for a takeout order, and wait for my order. It was almost $22 with tip for this so I expected it to be good and get what I paid for. When I go up to the counter to pick it up, the owner says : "By the way, we are out of burnt ends so I gave you sliced brisket instead." I was like okayyyy, but thats not what i ordered. He said, "It's the same thing", and I told him, no its not, and he said , "Next time I will give you a free sample. I can't give you what I don't have." LOL, next time? I am never coming back here again after the way he treated me and how rude he was. Are you kidding me? I said, "Well you could at least told me." He says: "Well, we ran out an hour ago and I told my employees to stop selling it. We took down the sign. They dont listen very well." He could have asked me if I wanted something else since they were out, but he just gave me what he felt like. I then showed him the sign that was taped to the front of the counter. I even asked the employee and he went to the back and said ok we can do that. I can't believe he blamed his employees right in front of me and said he took down the sign when clearly it was taped right there. His customer service sucks! Too bad, because the BBQ was actually pretty good. 1. Burnt end beef belly is not the same as sliced brisket. Thats like saying fried chicken is the same as chicken tenders. It may be the same animal but it is definitely not the same thing. 2. The Burnt ends beef belly is more expensive than their sliced brisket. He basically gave me no option and didn't ask to refund me the difference or anything. What in the h**l kind of customer service is this? I didn't know this was a chef's choice kind of restaurant. I should get what I ordered, not forced to take what they give me and not get any of my difference back. I mean it is only like 1-2 dollars difference but thats besides the point. It's the principle and obviously, he doesn't understand that. Dude was super rude and his tone was like it was me that did something wrong. I seen how rude he was on other Facebook groups, and now it has been confirmed personally. The way he treats his customer and staff, especially in front of all the other customers was ridiculous. I don't think I will be going back to be honest. I don't care how good the food is. That experience just made me not want to go back. The only reason I didn't one star him is because the food is pretty decent. YMMV, but go at your own risk.

Mary L.

Yelp
We love this yummy restaurant. This is a hidden gem in the Katy/ Fulshear area. The owner is so nice and welcoming. The staff are accommodating and kind. We frequent the restaurant and the service is always good. The BBQ is delicious. The brisket nachos are delicious and the burnt ends are so good! Their covered wagon tables are cute!

Benjamin E.

Yelp
Recently moved to the area from inside the loop and these guys are up the street from me so I decided to try them based on the good reviews. Obviously I'm missing something here because the BBQ was sub-par. On a Sunday afternoon we got the brisket, ribs, and chicken. I think we were eating Friday's or Saturday's meat because it was ugly, dried out, oxidized and didn't taste very good. Made my rib-loving-wife sick. Not sure what the 4-stars are about...maybe the neighborhood locals have never had good BBQ?

Larry B.

Yelp
The smoked brisket pastrami sandwich is legit.I would venture to say it was the best pastrami sandwich I have had.
