Chuggie’s - Review - Coconut Grove - Miami - The Infatuation

"It’s not your imagination. Fast food was better when we were kids. And Chuggie’s will remind you of your favorite burger drive-thru’s glory days. Unsurprising, given that this ode to fast food joints comes from theChug’steam. That means burger patties are served right off a flat top, not out of a plastic warming drawer. And when you bite into a ridiculously crunchy nugget, you can see actual chicken meat. But our favorite thing on the menu is the frita royale: A chorizo patty baptized in tangy mojo ketchup topped with cheese, pickled onions, and papitas. You can order ahead online or use the self-checkout screen. Your seating options are the yellow picnic tables outside, or somewhere inMae’s Room, the bar next door that this team also runs." - Virginia Otazo

Google
Honestly, this might be the best smash burger I’ve had in all of Miami. Super juicy, crispy edges, perfect flavor - just amazing. The whole vibe of the place in Coconut Grove is great too, and the staff was really friendly. Food: 10/10 Quality: 10/10 Price: 10/10

The food presentation was very nice. Eloquent and presentable. The food quality was good but the burger was a little bit salty, things that I didn't like. There's no tables inside the facility we had to eat outside. Also, I didn't like the simple fact that there was a service charge 10% included in the bill. There was no option of opting out. I think that this is unjust because if I'm putting in the order and no one is taking my order and no one is serving my food. I don't understand why there's an extra charge for the food that I'm buying especially for a hamburger place. And on top of that, they have the audacity of asking for a tip at the end of the bill on top of the gratility charge that they force you to pay. These new startup places are getting out of control with the extra charges and later they complain why people don't go back. Can you just imagine if five guys or shake shack were to put a service charge of 10% included in their bill? Do you think that people would go back to these places.

Decided to try Chuggies after seeing it all over tiktok and hearing many good things. After trying, I believe it may be a little overhyped. It’s a good decent burger, nothing crazy. A little pricey and everything is sold separately. Staff was friendly and service was quick!

Google
Respectfully, I would love a refund. These nuggets are so burnt I ended up throwing them away. The fries are so salty and taste like straight oil. Classic burger was mid..nothing crazy but nice marketing.

I usually rarely leave reviews for food places, but I just have to say that this spot represents everything that is wrong with Miami right now. The reason I rarely leave reviews is because opening a restaurant is hard enough, and I do not believe that if someone is genuinely trying their hardest to give you good food at a decent price you should put them down just because something was not right for your taste buds. I think it is good for the city to have new restaurants opening all the time and giving people new and exciting things to try. But this is very clearly not someone who is trying their best to give people decent food. At the very least they have decent prices, but I cannot think of anyone who has ever had an actual frita that would enjoy this place. I am honestly pretty frustrated because I came here after watching a Mr. Eats305 review, and he is usually pretty on the money, but this place was just objectively bad. I ordered a cheeseburger, a frita, fries, and a drink. I was excited for the frita because I thought it would be cool to have a new and aesthetically pleasing place for people to try fritas, but now I realize why they say if it is not broke, do not fix it. Compared to El Rey de las Fritas, this frita was plain, flavorless, slightly burnt on top, and lacked everything that makes a frita a frita. The cheeseburger tasted like the type of frozen burger you would get at an amusement park stand. The chug sauce was pretty good, but honestly, I have never disliked a burger sauce. The fries were fries, nothing to complain about, and the option to add seasoning and shake it in the bag is nice, but I cannot say I will ever go back or recommend anyone go considering how trash their burgers are.

Google
First time and unfortunately the chicken nuggets were very disappointing. My daughter ordered the nuggets and fries — the nuggets tasted almost identical to a McDonald’s chicken nugget, just a little bigger and very processed. The first order actually came out burnt, so they did remake them for us, but the second batch was dripping with oil and still didn’t taste fresh. This review is only for the chicken, as I do understand Chuggie is known mainly for their burgers. I’ll definitely come back to try a burger next time, but the chicken nuggets were not it.

Google
I guess it’s hit or miss and today was a miss. Food sucked, frita royal was not as described. The onions were raw and not pickled, drenched in ketchup up and under cooked. First visit was way better. Hope this place gets some consistency

Google
Such an amazing addition to the neighborhood. Prices are beyond fair, felt like a breath of fresh air. Kids loved the chicken nuggets and burger and the ability to hang out around the closed street. Frita was delicious blending tradition and a unique flavor. Fries and dessert hit the spot. Very helpful staff as well. First week hiccups, if any have subsided. We had food in hand within 10 minutes.

Yelp
I had pretty high hopes for Chuggie's since it's from the same owners as chugs, Ariete , and that group ..spots that usually deliver great vibes and solid food. But after reading a few mixed reviews, my expectations kind of dropped. Some people mentioned the bread being hard and the fries overly crunchy, which made me a bit nervous going in. Luckily, that wasn't my experience. My bread was soft, and the burger was actually pretty decent .. nothing mind blowing, but definitely not bad either. My boyfriend ordered the Frita, which was also pretty good. Again, not the best one I've had, but it hit the spot. Overall, it's a solid spot, just maybe not worth all the hype I initially expected.

Yelp
I was super excited to check this place out with all the hype I've seen on social media. I was a bit underwhelmed with everything. We came on a Saturday afternoon and assumed it would be super busy. However, ordering and getting our food was quick and efficient. You order at a kiosk and they'll text you or call out your name when the food is ready. I wish there was more seating because you can't sit at sandbars tables. We got lucky and grabbed a table by the next door bbq place that hasn't opened yet so we didn't get kicked out. As for the food, I ordered the chicken sandwich which was cold and could pass for a McDonald's chicken sandwich. I was expecting something different. The fries with the MIA seasoning was probably the best part. I don't think I'd come back unless they changed up some menu items.

Yelp
Y'all this new spot opened up in coconut grove and I love it. It really gives a twist on your traditional frita. I read some of the previous reviews and maybe it was just fairly new and getting settled in. Because that Frita Royale was delicious, if the onions would've been sliced thinner it would've been even better. It still hit the spot, there was plenty of flavor in the frita. Definitely will be coming back. The fries were good, I like that they are thin cut. This spot would be ideal after a late night of drinking. If they were opened past 10 pm it would be amazing. Overall, I really did enjoy their food. The service was great, the food was ready fairly quick. I highly recommend you check them out if you are in the grove area.

Yelp
Great quick lunch spot in the grove! Went on a Friday and didn't have to wait too long for my food. They make ordering easy by having a self checkout. Their menu is pretty straightforward so ordering was easy. I got the OG and it was really good. I didn't realize the onions came crispy so it was a nice surprise. Their fries were super crunchy and freshly made. I got the small and it was the perfect size for one person. They make ordering merchandise easy too, I ended up getting a smiley face pin for $1. It was a nice touch for them to have their merch so easily available. I'm looking forward to trying other options on their menu!

Yelp
I had high expectations coming to this place. The concept is amazing. Food was ready relatively fast. My order was 4 OG burgers , fries, a kids meal, and nuggets. Everything rounded up to about $100.. I had the O.G burger and it tasted good. However , the fries and chicken nuggets tasted the same. Not sure if they cook everything in the same oil, or the cooking oil was not good or overused. We ended up just eating the burger and some fries and throwing away the rest. I will not be coming back to this place, at least for a while.

Yelp
New fav spot. The burger is simple and really good. It's not a smash style, just a solid patty with great sauce and pickles. SO GOOD. The fries are honestly the best part: super crunchy and really tasty. I'd go back just for those. The soft serve at the end is a nice little bonus, especially on a hot day. It does get busy at times, but the line moves and it's worth the wait.

Yelp
Phenomenal food. Great prices. Love the burgers, chicken sandwiches, cookies, and soft serve!!!

Yelp
Cool vibe Great burger and super good prices! Grove needed a place like this- nice outdoor seating.

Max B.

Yelp
The OG burger and shaker fries were amazing! Pumped something like this finally opened up in the grove will be back for sure

Daniel P.

Yelp
First visit? Classic Chuggie was on point. Second visit? Bro, I'm out here crunching salt like tortilla chips. Chill with the shaker, homie. Fries were awesome but is it just me or does the mascot low-key look like Marco Rubio?

Yelp
For the location and the price point I believe the food is delicious. This isn't something that will blow you away but if you are craving fast food and don't want to gamble with a fast food restaurant quality I believe this is a great choice! Especially considering that this is the cheapest food in the area by far

Catarina A.

Yelp
Food took forever to get, when finally arrived it was wrong- sent it back & got the same thing back

Yelp
This has to be a joke. When I tell you, I paid $11 for a McDonald's hamburger that they repackaged and re sold I am not exaggerating. I paid extra for pickles and barbecue sauce, which is already insane, but I have to have sauce and the cup was only 1/4 of the way filled and there was one little pickle The meat had no flavor and it was not a smash burger like it said I'm not kidding but there is no way in the world this place makes it. And if it does, I'm going to open up a burger and hotdog joint next door and absolutely crushed the game. It seriously looked and tasted like my middle schooler made it I really should have asked for my money back. But after taking two bites, I threw the rest away.

Tony P.

Yelp
Great addition to the neighborhood. Enjoyed the frita, burger and fries and the kids devoured the chicken nuggets which were very fresh. Crispy cookies and soft serve rounded out a very pleasant and affordable meal

Marlon A.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. I had the nuggets and fries. The fries were fine but the nuggets were nasty. I couldn't get past the raw chicken taste. Not to mention there are only 4 nuggets in the meal, granted probably for the best since it went to the can anyway. The service and the staff was attentive and the only reason this isn't a one star. Please brine and season your chicken..

Lazaro H.

Yelp
Burger was under cooked and the soda is awful, not sure what is it with these trendy restaurants refusing to sign deals with coke or pepsi
