We decided to check Chulo out on a whim - everything, from the tamarind margaritas to curries, was delicious. The vindaloo was the perfect spice level, korma was rich and savory, and the chili cheese naan is NOT to be missed! Our server was also extremely professional and kind. Sad we didn’t save room for dessert but, we’ll be back ASAP!

Chulo has been my favorite restaurant in the area for the past couple years. The food is excellent, the service is always the best, the staff are all gracious and warm and make you feel at home and welcomed. If you come on a Thursday night, the band is fantastic! Additional note: there is now a duo playing on Saturday nights at 7 and they are great as well! Beautiful singing and guitar playing!

Unfortunately this place was disappointing . The food was not flavorful at all . Everything had one plain curry taste . I had chicken MoMo dumplings as appetizer and the chicken was raw and not fully cooked inside and it did tasted funky . Also they were cold .

First and foremost I am a Indian food lover My top cuisine - I told my wife yesterday let’s give this place a try. Most Indian restaurants cannot light a candle to my favorite Indian restaurant. To my shock - this place not only exceeded my expectation. The flavors. The service. The food was amazingly delicious it has been the best tasting thing I ate in 2025 - It has a new title too, my new favorite Indian restaurant.

Delicious food. This is a hidden gem in Watertown. Food is very flavorful and not spicy. Highly recommend getting the khaja set. Cocktails are also great and the restaurant has added south Asian spin to the flavors. We really enjoyed their tamarind margarita They have live music on Thursday evenings, which is a great way to enjoy dinner

It was my first Nepali restaurant. Foods are somewhat similar to Indian but had their unique plates like Momo dumplings. Foods were very fresh. Free parkings are available by the restaurant. There is live music session for dinner.

First time, they had some unusual dishes (for us) in additional to what we expect at an Indian restaurant. Momo's were good, eggplant good, fish was good, had some interesting looking appetizer plates (will try next time). Comfy not fancy and good.reasonavle prices.

Chulo has managed to squeeze itself into our weekly menu! We seriously can't get enough - its so yummy! We mainly eat a vegetarian diet so we've been trying a new vegetarian dish each week, and thus far, none have disappointed. I can't recommend this restaurant enough. You have to try it! Additionally, the staff is very kind, friendly, and responsive to their customers needs. 10/10 recommend 👌

This is one of our go-to spots. When you order delivery, it is SUPER fast. The food is always excellent. I highly recommend!

Plenty of seating on a Sunday evening. The staff are friendly and attentive, they were helpful in explaining the menu and keeping us supplied with water and drinks. The alcoholic mango lassi cocktail was a unique choice and would recommend! Particularly enjoyed their samosas and the tandoori chicken. The momos were a bit of a miss, I would recommend finding a dedicated Nepali restaurant for those. Prices are fairly reasonable too, although the Yelp coupon didn't work, the staff were kind enough to apply the discount manually.

I'm a huge Indian food lover and having traveled to Nepal, I live a touch of nepalese. This place hits the spot in every way. Starters: Daal Soup Chana chiurq Wai wai sadeko (loved, spicy bit) Meal: Butter chicken (must get) Bred Basket Naan: (a ton of bread but all so good. Like the coconut one most): Peshawari naan Tandoori naan Garlic naan

Chulo Restaurant & Bar had a discount coupon on Grubhub, so I decided to give it a shot, and I wasn't disappointed. The food was great and at an incredibly affordable price. Even though I am typically a meat lover, I decided to go with the vegetarian version of the Royal Chulo Khaja Set for $15.99 (I think chicken was $1 extra). Royal Chulo Khaja Set (Veg) - I'm not positive what came with this set and what was extra/side things that are included, but the $15.99 order came with 4 tupperwares of dishes and 3 smaller containers with sides. I'll do my best to describe the different components: Vegetable curry - this container was jam packed and almost bursting. It had some cauliflower, peas, carrots, and maybe potatoes? Possibly also some broccoli, but all of the vegetables were soft and absorbed the mild curry very well. There was a lot of flavor here, and I probably only ate half of the contained because there were so many other dishes. Aloo tama soup - this had black eyed peas in it and was absolutely delicious. The soup was thin but still packed with flavor. It went extremely well with the flattened/beaten rice. Beaten rice - I love this and actually buy it at the market a lot to have at home. Each gran of rice is flattened and dried/fried to be extremely crispy. It has a great texture and takes on the flavor of whatever you mix it with - in this case, the aloo tama soup and the vegetable curry were great candidates. Black chickpea curry - this was also another tasty curry that came in one of the larger tupperware dishes. It was a pretty standard chickpea dish, but it was a bit on the spicy side for me. Still, it was a nice addition to the massive amounts of food that the platter already contained. Basic salad - this was in a small container and had raw cucumber, red onion, and carrot. It was a bit strange to have with no sauce, but it was a nice and refreshing break from the spicier curries. Roasted soybeans and peanuts - I had never had this before but it was STRONG. It had a wasabi/horseradish flavor to it, and it was rather spicy. Still, it offered a nice crunch and was tasty as long as I didn't have a big bite of it on its own. It was a nice addition to the other dishes, and the crunch went well with the crunch from the flattened rice. Aachar - last was this mixed pickled veggie paste. I'm not sure if that's actually what it is, but it's what it tasted like, and it had a nice acidic flavor to it to balance out some of the richer curries. Really, everything went together tremendously well, and there was an incredible amount of value for $15.99. I do wish there was some rice included apart from the flattened rice, because after I finished that, I still had a bunch of sides and curries leftover. I ended up making my own rice and flatbread to soak up the remainder of the dishes, but just the fact that I had so much leftover after eating the included flattened rice is a benefit. The last bit of feedback was that I did order the least spicy option, but some of the dishes were still rather spicy. Still, the flavor was full and delicious - 4/5 stars!

I ordered Uber Eats from here. My favorite dish is matar paneer and this is the only place i have found in boston that makes it exactly how I like it. All my food was packed great so it was still warm when I got it. I can't wait to order takeout from here again and share with my friends!

I drive by this place all the time...like several times per week. I've always wanted to try it and I finally did it. I ordered via Yelp for pickup. There are several parking spaces right up front on the street, but they also have a lot around back. The restaurant looks pretty nice inside. There were no customers at all in the dining room. I was greeted upon entering and everyone seemed pretty friendly. There was also a ad for live music on specific nights...if you're into that kind of thing. There is a large bar inside, too. As for the food, I would give it 2.5/5. I ordered the steamed and fried chicken momos/dumplings and I can't say I was impressed. I'm a big dumpling guys, mostly with chinese types of dumplings. However, I also frequent popular momo places like momo n curry and tasty momo in cambridge/somerville. I really wanted to love these momos from Chulo as this place is more convenient for me. They just don't compare favorably to the other momos I've had in the city. I also didn't feel great after eating them. The samosa chaat had good feedback from my wife, however.

The Chicken Momo and Tandoori Chicken is very good, but the Butter Chicken was strangely too sweet. I've never had curry with that much sugar in it; disappointed.

So glad we stopped here for dinner! This place is delicious. We might've gone overnoard with ordering though. We got the veg samosas which were pretty good. Then the chicken chow mein came out and that was exciting. I wasn't sure about chow mein here at first but oh man it was the thing to get! Then the naan came out. We got the regilar and garlic naans. Then we each got chicken tikka masala. The curries usually comes with rice so if you want naan you have to order separately. We then got the kothey momos. Oh my gosh...what a table full of food. All were very good. My eyes are definitely bigger than my belly. If you're trying to keep to an appropriate portion, I'd either go curry, naan and maybe the momo or chow mein. We would definitely visit again if we come by this area down the line!

Great Service from the moment we stepped in. It seemed they care for the food they serve and how they serve. The appetizers came out fast and although I was not entirely in a mood to order anything Indian I did end up getting the Daal Makhani. It pains me to see reddish Dal Makhani getting served which also has cream in it. I wish I can return just by looking at it that it's soooooo WRONG to put cream in it. 1.5 star taken out for otherwise tasty Nepali food. The Kwati Soup was awesome and is a perfect comfort food to have esp when the weather is a bit chilly. The thali was great with all the items being tasty (the dal was what i thought will be served when I ordered dal makhani - maybe I got overly excited and then got disappointed.) Ok I restore back half a star and make it a solid 4 There seems to be a stage for live performances and will definitely try to figure that out : The whats and the whens. Will I make a trip to eat food? Nahhhh (maybe for the live music? Dunno) Will I be back if am in the area? Always yes if am hungry for some grub.

As a South Indian man living away from his mother, I'm always looking for comfort Indian food. I've been in Boston for about 8 years and I definitely have my top 10 Indian food spots. Chulo has sneaked its way into this list over the course of several visits. I haven't seen that many South Indian cuisines represented well, other than the obvious dosa spots. Subtle food intricacies. They'll occasionally do live music, bridging into the modern feel. Good local spot.

The best Indian food! My daughter was raving about this restaurant so we finally gave it a try on our visit to Waltham last night. She did not exaggerate. Everything was delicious from the Chicken tikka Masala to the Palak Paneer. The highlight for me was the Lamb Vindaloo. We got everything medium spicy and the rice and naan were enough to cut the kick! Everyone was friendly and attentive and the addition of live music was a nice surprise . This meal inspired me to book a trip to India next year! Until then we will be back here soon.

The dumpling were awesome and the eggplant was out of this world good. Service is great and personable. This was our first time and will be back with guest!

I LOVE Indian food. It's my "Deserted Island Cuisine." (If I'm stuck on a deserted island and can eat only one thing for the rest of my life, it's Indian, hands down.). This place is fantastic. It's very well appointed, the food is awesome, they have a very extensive cocktail menu, and it's all *very* reasonably priced. They even have live music 1x per week. Get here.

My family and I were in Boston for a short vacation, and found this gem of a Nepalese restaurant. The temperatures in Boston was really low and after walking around the Boston downtown all day, we wanted to eat something really good and this place was perfect. The place is a little outside Boston downtown, about 7 miles but the drive is worth. We were a party of 10 people including three hyperactive kids. We had not made reservations, but they were able to accommodate us. The service was great, all the staff were nice and polite. We went there on Saturday evening, and looks like they have a very busy weekend because the entire place was full and there were people waiting to get the table. We were glad we arrived when we did. They have live music on Friday and Saturday. The band played pretty good, they sang Nepali, English and Hindi songs. Now about the food, let me start by saying everything was delicious!! Momos - we tried all steam, kothey and chilly in veg and chicken and all of it was great! The kids had chicken wings and they seemed very happy! Veg chowmain was great and so was the vegetarian thali. Aaloo bodi tama soup was perfect for the cold day like that. We also had chicken khaja set and chicken sekua , both were delicious. All 10 of us left with a smile on our face because we had great food in a great ambiance.

We had a mid-week lunch meal at Chulo. Excellent food and a nice variety of dishes - especially vegetarian options. Wait staff is friendly and highly accommodating while making your "spice level" exactly to your liking. Highly recommend.

I liked the decor a lot. The place was very neat and seemed inviting. The waitstaff are really nice but there was a lot to be desired about my experience particularly. (I went there on a Tuesday at 4PM). They just weren't that attentive. The food was ok but could have been more flavorful. I asked it to be spicy (the hottest option) and they didn't put enough spice in it. (I'm Asian). The portion sizes were kind of small too. I usually have enough left over to take home for other restaurants I visit but for this one I didn't.

We're basically regulars here and whether we order to go or dine in the quality is always impeccable!!! Service: fairly quick and plenty of seating even at dinner time or on weekends! The Staff is always friendly and open to answering any questions we may have. The food comes out in decent time and always fresh! Food: delicious flavor, spice levels are accurate and everything comes out streaming. I highly recommend trying the rice pudding as a perfectly sweet dessert has a hint of cinammon and rich flavor!

What an all-around delight to eat at Chulo. Neither my wife nor I drink, so I can't speak to the bar, but our experience was top-notch. We were making a short visit to the Waltham area from central Maine, and were looking for some good Indian or Nepalese food. The owner waited on us and made our evening a special one. As it was our first time at his restaurant, we put ourselves in his hands and followed his recommendations. We feasted on Chicken Steamed MoMo, Garlic Naan, Kottayam Fish Curry, Hyderabadi Baghaar-e-Baigain and refreshed ourselves with Mango Laahsis. Every bite was a delight - bursting with complex and well-balanced flavors. It was abundantly clear that the food was made with care and love. The service was superb, and it looked like everyone else was having and equally good experience. We enjoyed the ambience - comfortable, and able to hear each other talk. Even though we make monthly trips to the area and love to try out different restaurants, we will definitely be returning to Chulo - in fact, my wife and her sister will eat there tomorrow.

Chulos went above and beyond my expectations regarding their hospitality, patience, and incredible food. My students recently learned about India and were excited to try different Indian cuisines. My student population has multiple disabilities and requires sensory support (consideration for bright lights, noise, wheelchair access, etc) in new places. The owner was incredibly accommodating for what our students may need, offered menu recommendations, and worked with our budget to make our field trip happen. The food was sublime and our students thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We highly recommend this restaurant for their great food and wonderful service.

The food is absolutely outstanding with a ton of good flavor and plenty of options. Will 100% be back and it has surprisingly a great beer, selection, and bar.

All food items were SO YUMMY. Can't say enough good things about this place. PRATEEK IS THE BEST. he took care of our party of 7 all night so the service was easily 10/10. Outdoor seating isn't their priority but they made it one for us, as the music inside was beautiful, but a bit too loud for our older crowd. (catching up with distant relatives) Really just a great experience overall. Eat here!

While visiting Boston, we decided to look for places with vegan options for me. This restaurant has quite a few vegan dishes and options, and it's Nepali and Indian cuisine. The staff/server was friendly and helpful, the service was fast. We ordered two vegan appetizers, the Veg samosa and the Mixed veg pakora. For the entree I shared the Dal Tadka (Vegan) and the Tandoori Roti (Vegan). The food was absolutely delicious. I ordered the mild version of Dal Tadka because I don't like spicy. The samosa is a bit spicy but everyone tasted and loved them. All the food tasted so fresh. I will definitely try to come back before I leave and definitely recommend.

Worst Indian food I have ever had in the Boston area. Dried out and old basmati rice, a large samosa but with awful flavor in the crust. No onion chutney included in order. The salad had browned lettuce. AVOID.

Absolutely delicious food, reasonable prices and amazing service. They got one of our orders slightly wrong but realized immediately and let us keep both. Environment was amazing, with good music and visuals and really comfortable seating in large booths. Will return soon!

We visited on a Sunday afternoon in January 2022. I had this restaurant bookmarked for over 2 years and finally I got a chance to experience it this year. Nepali food was the sole reason I wanted to check it out. We were a group of 3 who found plenty of parking, right by the restaurant (It isn't street parking). Similar to the parking scene, we found plenty of open tables at the restaurant. There was literally just one other group dining over there. Cheap beers (4$ Carlsberg & 6.5$ Tiger) and unique dishes that I've not seen at any other Nepali restaurants around Boston. We tried Chicken Chowmein, Chicken Fried Rice, Chili Mo Mo Chicken, Lamb Sekuwa, Chicken Khaja Set. I think the Khaja set is a great pairing dish with any beer, I'd recommend it.

Great experience dining outside at Chulo. The parking lot didn't bother us as much as there aren't many cars. Waiter was super attentive and helpful. We enjoyed chicken momo and the two royal sets. Remember to unlock the $15 for $20 vouche deal through Yelp!

This place is so delicious and the staff are great! My boyfriend and I came on a Thursday night in hopes that it wasn't too crowded. There were only a handful of other people in the restaurant, which meant that the staff were super quick! We were seated promptly & within 5 minutes we knew what we wanted and ordered. The atmosphere was very relaxed. There are some TVs on the wall and a decent sized bar. Booths surround the outer edges of the single room and tables fill the center. It's small, but not stuffy. Our booth was actually way too big for just the 2 of us! For an app we got the vegetarian samosas. For entrees, spicy butter chicken & spicy lamb tikka masala, which both came with sides of jasmine rice! We also ordered garlic naan. Samosas- 10/10 These were MASSIVE and so DELICIOUS! Honestly if you ordered just these and another app, you'd be full. The sauces that came with them were amazing. Butter chicken- 9/10 wow, so tender and literally melt in your mouth. The tomato sauce is such a nice balance of flavors & acid, I just wish it was a spicier but that's just personal preference. Next time I'll ask them to do extraaa spicy!! Lamb Tikka Masala- 9/10 the sauce was out of this world!! The perfect amount of heat too. Personally I think I'd like this better with chicken, but my boyfriend loved it. Garlic Naan- 9/10 warm and tasty. The perfect compliment to the entrées. Don't miss out on this. Only thing I'd change is if they could be more buttery. I'd definitely come back again and try some more items on the menu! Extra spicy ;)

Fun place to try some authentic Nepali or Indian cuisine. The waitress gave of lots of helpful recommendations. My entire family was obsessed with their fusion chow mein - the spices they used to jazz it up were amazing and the noodles were the perfect texture. The tandoori chicken and Lamb bhanchha entree set were also stand outs. Loved that I could try some specialty Nepali dishes that I've never seen on a menu before - like the red beaten rice (I won't order it again but fun to try). They have a full bar here and a stage with live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Will definitely be back and would also recommend as a great take out option.

We ordered takeout here and I've never had biryani like this and it's soooo good. The momos are also really good too, especially the chili momos.

Took a chance to try out something new and was definitely impressed with Chulo! We ordered delivery and got garlic naan, chicken biriyani, chicken momos, Veg kothey momo, lamb sekuwa, samosas, and gulab jamun. Everything was packed nicely and we got lots of sauces to accompany our meal. The momos were great, a classic dumpling that you can't go wrong with. The lamb was flavorful and tender, and not dry! It went great with the white, creamy, yogurt sauce. The garlic naan was good and seasoned well, slightly burnt on one side. The chicken biriyani has got LOTS of spices. I had no idea what I was eating, so every so often I would get a bite of some spice, which I spit out, but the flavor was worth it. We got medium spice and at first, it doesn't seem too spicy, but the spice adds up and leaves an after-burn sensation in your mouth. The only thing I DO NOT recommend is the gulab jamun. The description describes it as a fluffy milk puff or flourless doughnut, but the flavor and texture are awful. Maybe it's the cardamom spice or the mushy puff, but the smell isn't appealing which also doesn't help the taste of this. Overall, great food and I'd be willing to order from Chulo again in the future!

Hands down the best Momos I have ever had!! I got the Chicken Kothey Mo Mo. The stuffing inside was nicely spice and the momo was stuffed sufficiently. The way that they were fried really levelled up the quality of the momo and gave it a nice charred taste. And don't forget the sauces! The red and yellow sauce were the bomb!

We ordered food from here for a birthday party in our home. It was fantastic. Great different flavors. Many vegetarian options. Loved the tikka masala and momos especially.

Consistently top-notch flavoring in all the dishes. The goat vindaloo is suitably spicy, and the cuts of meat are close to the bone for tenderness and tastiness. The aloo kauli (cauliflower) also really rich in flavor, and the cauliflower is nice and tender with a touch of bite to it. The garlic naan is full of garlic flavor. The Navratan korma is mixed veggie dish that is creamy, but also has a nutty flavor to it. The butter chicken has tender pieces of dark meat ensconced in a smooth silky sauce. Once in a while the potatoes in the dishes are a bit underdone. Otherwise top notch stuff, one of the best in the region.

Very good food and service. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Friendly staff. Good wine selection and lovely warm naan with several seasoning choices. Yummy mango custard pie dessert. My entree was good but next time I'll ask for mild heat instead of medium. It was a bit to hot for me.

Came here on a Thursday night and the place was completely empty, so that was a bit awkward. I wanted to try the indo-chinese, so we got the chicken chili and chow mein, and then tacked on some lamb curry for good measure. I'm glad we got the lamb! The indo-chinese offerings were disappointing.

Came here for dinner the other night and the food, service and atmosphere was great. Nik and I tried the Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Vindaloo, Garlic Naan and a side of yogurt sauce. They were all super flavorful and delicious. I personally liked the vindaloo more because I like things spicy, but the tikka masala paired well to balance the heat. The garlic naan was perfect for soaking up the sauces. It also looks like they have live music some nights so I would totally come back to check that out!

The food was delicious, so full of flavors and you could taste a variety of spices in the dishes. We ordered the samosa chaat for apps and a dirty mango lassi which was very tasty! For dinner we ordered the madras curry with raita to complement and a paneer dish. All so flavorful - it was a rare occasion that we ate slowly and could appreciate all the elements of the dishes. The service was warm and considerate. The server was mindful of where we were in our meal so we could enjoy each course without being flooded with dishes. Other staff were very nice. Live music playing was a nice addition and it wasn't too loud. We really enjoyed our evening at Chili's - would highly recommend.

After looking at the reviews on here I decided to come with a friend, and it definitely did not disappoint. The servers were friendly, and the food came out quickly. For starters, we split the Chicken Chili Momo. It had just the right amount of spice on it where it was hot but we could still enjoy it, which we did. For my entree I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala with some Garlic Naan on the side. The naan itself was delicious. The Chicken Tikka Masala was flavorful, and came in a healthy portion size. Overall I'd recommend this place to anyone who likes good Indian food.

Great range of delicious dishes cooked up for a Birthday party for 25 folks. Chulo was easy to work with, the suggested proportions were right on target, and the restaurant was great with quite a bit of back-and-forth. Highly recommended....

Excellent chicken korma with the perfect amount of spice. Flavorful, tender, generous portion of chicken. Tamarind margarita was delicious! Great service and nice decor. I will be back!

Ritek (server) was terrific. Food was yummy except for the mixed grill which was a bit dry and perhaps overcooked. Low-key ambiance, but don't go Saturday night when the band is playing, it gets very busy and a bit loud, and service suffers. Great for a Sunday night.

I waited too long to try Chulo. The food is great, flavorful and worth going. My new favorite.

The food is awesome, food is very fresh and very tasty.. we have eaten there and have ordered take out and both have been equally delicious. Note: they do give you a lot of rice when ordering take out. My kids love the Mango Lassi (mango and yogurt drink/shake).

Entering Chulo reminded me of some of the halfway-posh restaurants I've visited in South Delhi. It's tucked away on a second floor with some hastily printed direction signs pointing towards it, but once inside, the restaurant is spacious and dimly lit, complete with a TV showing a video of a fireplace. I imagine it gets more crowded on the weekends when there's live music, but we came on a Wednesday. I've never had proper Nepali cuisine before, but the flavor profile of the curries was fairly familiar. We started with the veg khana set, which had a variety of warm and cold appetisers accompanied by beaten rice (closely resembling miniature corn flakes). The soup and dried chickpeas were really fragrant and unique, tasting more like some Thai salads I've tasted, whereas the cold aloo sadeko was just OK (tasted like dum aloo). The main veg thali we ordered with aloo gobhi had seasoning almost like some Bihari versions and was very good. The ghee to top the rice was a nice touch, and the daal was hearty. Only thing I will skip next time was the so-called "Himalayan old fashioned". Just tasted like an old fashioned that was light on whisky.

Chulo is a delicious and delightful find in Watertown. It's a discreetly hidden, 2nd floor walk up Nepalese restaurant. Up front they have a bar with a stage area for a band. The back is a small dining area. They were playing live Nepalese music on a Saturday evening (website says live music on Mon, Fri, Sat). The restaurant is colorfully decorated with prayer flags and various religious art. Recs: Go for their currys and momos (dumplings)! (+) Lamb curry is similar in taste to Indian curry. Comes with basmati rice and 2 pickled sides. (+)Momo's are very generous in their portion size. It's enough to be an entree to be shared between 2 people. Spicy fans should go for their chili chicken momo. Pass: (-) Chicken Bhanchha set. Because it was listed under the "royal chula bhanchha set," it sounded fancy and we wanted to try something different. Most of the sides were originally cold and we were not a fan of the "beaten rice." Little did we know that beaten rice is very similar to eating dried grains/oatmeal. Admittedly we took a gamble by ordering something we had no idea about. To each their own! Overall, Churo is a fun place to dine if you're looking for something ethnic and different. Their large portion sizes make it worth your money!
