Chung Hing Review - North Miami Beach - Miami - The Infatuation

"Chung Hing is small, but the Asian market packs a serious punch with its selection—especially Chinese snacks and packaged goods. It also happens to be right next to Sang’s, an incredible dim sum restaurant, so you can plan a lunch and shopping one-two-punch. This is a good spot to get more chili oil for your pantry, and they even have a small produce section. Just don’t leave without buying some Every Burger cookies, an adorable and delicious Japanese snack that might be our favorite little cookie on the planet." - Ryan Pfeffer

Cash only! Luckily I had cash on me that day. I wanted shrimp lomein for lunch so I googled it when I was in the area. What I got was not shrimp lomein (lunch combo #12). It was quite bland shrimp stir fry with celery and bean sprouts over fried wonton skins. The chow mein and fried rice were plain too. The lunch was cheap and I think maybe that's why it has all these great reviews. Food was not good. A lot of people were ordering the #1 combo with the char sui (bbq pork) so maybe I should have ordered that instead. The two older Asian ladies working there were nice and friendly to me. They were quick getting everyone's orders ready and the customers all seemed happy.

Google
I ordered #4 to go and unfortunately I was not looking when the lady was putting the food in my to go box. When I got back to work and opened there was no pork. The #4 supposed to have roast pork, egg roll, lo mei. And fried rice. Not a good experience specially that I drive 15 mins to get it and I am not driving back to get my pork so basically I wasted $13 for no meat food!

Google
A small Chinese fast food in Miramar next to McDonalds, where I have been coming here for 2 decades. Don't make the facade of the place fool you. Their food is cooked fresh (cook to order) and it's very delicious. My favorite dish is their number 2, chicken chow mein with noodles and fried chicken. It's cook fresh, fast service and delicious. Expect a busy crowd on lunchtime, but it's worth the wait. Parking is limited. Handicap parking is available. Friendly smile. Good eats.

Google
It’s like kinda improved version of Panda Express. $10.75 pretax for any combination with more than 10 choices. These two dishes are freshly stir-fried, rather than prepared and left there to keep warm. Chow mein and fried rice are much more delicious than Panda

Google
stopped by for lunch..bbq pork fried rice, chicken wings, and bbq pork were pretty good. the egg foo young was bland and starchy and egg roll was plain, so won’t be getting those again. will def try the others as the price is right at this spot. CASH only — so be ready. fast service.

Michael Jameson

Google
Best takeouts Chinese in the Miramar area. Service is always fast, prices are affordable, and the food is great. I’ve been going here for years. Make sure to get the #1 meal with the BBQ Pork!

Google
Cheap, quick and delicious!! Their portion size is very filling. It's good enough for two people or for two meals. They only accept cash so be ready to take that. Currently only doing takeout and some outdoor seating. We got the Combo 1 which has fried rice, BBQ pork pieces, 2 chicken wings and 2 fried wantons. The fried rice is really good, but the pork is AMAZING. I don't even like pork that much but I pretty much swallowed the pieces whole, that's how good it is. Those two together are brilliant. They give soy sauce which can add more flavor to the rice if that's what you like, I did both and actually liked the rice WITHOUT the soy sauce. The chicken wings were ok and very salty. The fried wantons were a little confusing but decent. Will be back here to taste more of their food.

Google
Chung Hing is an absolute gem! The BBQ pork is to die for, and the combination plates offer a perfect balance of flavors. The staff is super friendly and efficient, even when the place is packed. Plus, the prices are unbeatable for the quality you get. It's hard to find such great value and authentic Chinese food in one spot. If you're looking for a cozy place with amazing food, look no further than Chung Hing. Highly recommend giving it a try!

Yelp
I love their bbq pork here and also the fried rice and chow mein, but sometimes they run of food specially at night. I also like their fried chicken and egg foo young because they taste the food I usually get from China town and the portions is big enough for 1 person. The only drawback is this place only takes cash and my bank is too far from this place. The lady that's serving gives a big portion of bbq pork, she usually sits by one of the table and wait for the people to order,. Last time I was here I just order small portions of fried rice, small chow mein and small bbq pork, I thought It will not be enough for two but we still have some leftover for my wife to bring to work, this place is a cafeteria style and there's only few tables inside, regular Chinese eatery like you see in most China town. Selections by plate and the price is next to it.

Yelp
Best char siu pork around and wonderful service! I like to buy for my family and friends. They take only cash

Yelp
Will definitely be coming back!! For a little over $10 bucks we got a lot of food and tasty food. The combo #1 came with salt and pepper wings, roast (?) pork, and pork fried rice as well as these 2 wonton things (not in picture). Soooooo worth what I paid and then some!! Coming back here! I've been searching for a place like this!! Cash only btw!

Yelp
Simple hole in the wall spots are the best, and this place is it. Bring cash because they're a cash only place. Order the #1 because that's where it's at. That pork is amazing and I really like their egg foo young. It hits the spot when you want simple uncomplicated Chinese food. The people that run this place are very nice. My husband is picky about his Chinese food and this is one of his favorite spots, and I gotta agree it's over off the best Chinese bbq pork places in the county.
google avatar

Yelp
This is one of the best fast cheap Chinese togo spots in San Diego. I go here often for lunch. Love the bbq pork and fried rice. Wings are crispy and savory. Very reasonable price. Cash only but it's worth it. Definitely try

Yelp
This small Chinese spot in Miramar is perfect if you're looking for a bang for your buck. The portions on the combination plates are heaping for what you pay, and the food is pretty delicious! Just keep in mind that it's a cash-only restaurant.

Yelp
By far my favorite place to grab lunch when I am working. Chung Hing is on Miramar Road, just behind the McDonalds. It's another one of those spots that is tough to find if you don't know about it. I get the same thing every time! #1 Combo - included bbq pork fried rice, 2 salt and pepper chicken wings, 2 wontons and a generous portion of bbq pork. The combo cost just under $10 and the portion is great. I have never tried anything else, but I can tell you every time I am there, there is a line...and everyone is ordering the same thing....Combo #1 The restaurant is clean. I have only seen 2 lady's ever working the front counter. Both of them have always been very nice. **One thing to note, they only take cash. There is a sign that says "credit card machine not working" but that has been up for years. Make sure you bring cash!

Yelp
My coworker recommended this place. She picked up lunch and got the BBQ combo, wings potsticker, half noodles and rice combo. It was a great choice. I will be coming back.

Yelp
Cash only, no ATM nearby. We got a #1 and #7 (I think). They were out of some stuff when we came for dinner around 6pm. Our total was $24. Lots of carbs (fried rice and noodles); the chicken wing and pork were really good. I would definitely come back for just wings and BBQ pork! There was one staff, and she was nice. We ate there; we saw some people come in and get takeout. There are tables inside and outside in the small shop, and they were clean. We enjoyed it overall!

Alex A.

Yelp
I love the combo #1 the bbq pork. There aren't too many different food options, however, the food is very tasty. It is a mom & pop shop so it has that ambiance of being stuck in the 90's. The service is usually ok, the lady in front usually seems a little grumpy but she gets the job done. This place is cash only so that is one draw back but it further adds to the 90's nostalgia of restaurants from that time period lol. Overall, this place has charm and I will come back if I'm in the area.

Tom R.

Yelp
The best BBQ pork with wonderfully crispy burnt ends with noodles... love the chicken wings and wontons... $11.59 great price. The lady behind the counter is super nice. One of the last good deals in San Diego...

Victoria P.

Yelp
The food is great, but the selection is quite limited. My main concern is the service. I've visited several times, and each time there's usually one worker who seems preoccupied. Today was no different; she was seated looking at her phone when I arrived and she barely acknowledged me. It took about 15-20 seconds for her to get up and take my order. Good customer service is really important to me, and unfortunately, this place falls short in that regard.

Yelp
If you're west of the 15 and north of the 52... you should know about this golden gem. Chung Hing has been around for decades and has not strayed from their quality or procedures. Those complaining about it being cash only... when it's the cheapest Cantonese food in the entire county... have other problems they're dealing with. There's an ATM within walking distance. It's not that big of a deal. Their BBQ pork char sui however IS a big deal. Not to mention their fresh chicken wings, that if you're lucky enough.. they'll still have some tiny feathers left. I've never strayed from their Combo #1 which seems to be a local favorite. It has the most amazing pork char sui you'll find - and I'm willing to bet money on that. All of it is fresh and tastes so dang good. Their chicken wings are so crispy and seasoned soooo nicely. Whatever salt they use is on point. I could eat a whole gallon of drumsticks and be solid. But my favorite.... Are the pork wontons. Those addicting little suckers will seriously have you regretting not getting extra. Whatever magic they use in their recipe is slaying! Their fried rice is fulllll of flavor and bits of char sui, which make it even gold. If you're gutsy enough to wait until you get home to eat it... i highly suggest making a rice bowl with added char sui. It's so dang good. Such a super simple mom and pop shop that's always a hit with our family. I can see why they've been around so long.

Mariann C.

Yelp
Two Asian women working who I didn't recognize. Friendly woman taking our order. Not as much food in the behind counter warmer(?) as usual. Out of Egg Foo Young. Fried rice enjoyable as usual. Pork Lo Mien mostly all noodles. Sweet and Sour Pork very dry and chewy. Egg Rolls greasy and chewy. Hope it's not due to end of week (closed Sat. Sun.). Next time in area will try since we've enjoyed food in the past.

Yelp
ooh yum. It's a small very humble mom and pop fast food chinese shop. randomly came by via yelp in search of cheap, tasty chinese food that wasn't panda express or that other place with the horse in front. It's located behind the Miramar McDonalds (near pyramid and across taco bell plaza) and plenty of parking. Caution since a lot of trucks drive in and out of the area. The restaurant folks are still barricaded down from all things covid. It's a heart aching set up that distances customers from entering so folks can order at the door while the owners can work their magic behind the scenes. Ordered a #1 and the #10? (Kungpao Shrimp) to go. Each plate $10 + $11.. a little high but understandable given the current economic status. It's legit a mom and pop s definitely worth supporting. #1 is the one to order.. the bbq pork is SO yummy.. decent salt and pepper wings and a lot of rice. Definitely would order another helping of the pork next time i come. The kungpao shrimp wasn't spicy at all but it had a lot of good veggies, a decent gravy, YUMMY mein and pretty solid fried rice. It is a good amount of food and fresh tasting. Definitely see myself coming back again. Hubs and I had a good fill on the food and didn't feel like poop after either. When you have a hankering for chinese take out this is the place to come by. I'm actually craving the char shieu .. I also found it comforting that there were a lot of other chinese folks dining here for the quick and easy eats. Not bad for lunch! Will be back and go support your small businesses!!

Yelp
I haven't been to this place in yeaaaars! I just remember they were known for their bbq pork aka char siu! My coworker and I came during our lunch break and both got the number 1 combo. It comes with fried rice, 2 chicken wings, 2 wontons and bbq pork for $9.59. The bbq pork and chicken wings were good but wonton were soggy and the fried rice was just mediocre, kind of bland. This place is a grab and go, they closed the seatings inside. Also this is a cash only establishment!

Yelp
This is my favorite Chinese restaurant. I've been going there for over 20 years. I live in north county and have yet to find a place that serves food like Chung Hing's. I'm happy they survived the pandemic. I really missed this place the 2 years I worked from home.
google avatar

Anum P.

Yelp
Let's just say my poop was weird the next day. Let's start with customer service: terrible. No smile, no thank you no nothing from the lady in front. Food: I got chicken chow mein and fried rice. With hardly any noodles and fried rice that wasn't supposed to be touched with bits of pork (I didn't order pork and god forbid I had an allergy) yet pieces of pork ended up in my food. Also, I noticed a hair. This place is worse than Panda Express.

Adriane R.

Yelp
I mainly come here for their Char Sui and its probably the best in the area, i've tried other ones from other places inside and outside the city but they just dont make it the same like this one does. Its perfectly cooked and on top of that their fried rice is also one of the best ive tried. Definitely gotta try it out if you're ever in the miramar area if you're trying to eat big on a budget.
google avatar

Alex E.

Yelp
Driven past this place hundreds of times but have never stopped in. One of my coworkers asked if I liked Chinese food and said the place was a surprise. I ended up asking for the BBQ pork and got the #1 combo. It was legit. Loved the BBQ Pork and I like that it came with a couple of wings and wontons, and fried rice. Will add it to our lunch list of places and will return.

Yelp
Old school Chinese food. Cash only. Served per plate. To get the amount of food for the price point in San Diego is unheard of. A plate here for under $10 would run you about a few bucks or more at a Panda Express. The food here seemed pretty authentic too. The only knock I have here is it did take a bit of time to get the food out but it's a small operation and there was a line out the door for lunch. Another sign the food here is pretty good. The bbq pork here was fantastic.

Randy W.

Yelp
There is nothing fresh, nothing hot and nothing good here. Lunch time on a weekday (12:15) you would expect your food to be fresh and hot, it was not. It was all made hours before and sitting buffet style in "warmers" that are not even close to being hot. You get what you pay for, you have been warned.
google avatar

Kim S.

Yelp
I have been coming here for over 16 years. Food is the best your going to find any where in the area. Unless you go to Convoy/Kearny Mesa area. THEY NEVER TOOK CREDIT CARDS
google avatar

Cheryl H.

Yelp
I love this restaurant, as others have said, no frills but great food at a very reasonable price. I have been going there for over 20 years and the consistency of the food has always been great, especially for the price!!
google avatar

Vinh N.

Yelp
GLAD I WAS ABLE TO FIND THIS PLACE. This place gives great quality food while keeping at a cheap price. Each of these plates were 9.75 like THATS CRAZY. The top is combo plate 1 and other is combo plate 7. All their dishes were cooked well where it wasn't too hard nor over cooked. For my pan fried pork, I enjoyed how they had a nice balance of pork and veggies while keeping it saucy .Oh yea this place only accepts cash!! Will definitely come back here to try more
google avatar

CJ C.

Yelp
How is this place 4 stars? I was served leftovers from the morning. Trash food in the evening. 2/10
google avatar

Alan T.

Yelp
For once, a highly rated Chinese restaurant doesn't leave me disappointed. The Char Siu is the best I've had in San Diego and Nor Cal. Very tender and the fattier slices just melt in your mouth. I suggest just getting the Char Siu and not wasting time with anything else. Fried rice was good for that carb filler. Important note is that it's combos only right now, so choices are but limited, but irrelevant as they're the best at one dish and that's plenty for me. It is cash only right now so keep that in mind, and call ahead if you can. Even if you don't, service is relatively quick.
google avatar

Yelp
The food is great and affordable. No frills. They are cash only so note that but the food is pretty cheap. The owner was very nice as well. I've been looking for an affordable Chinese takeout place for awhile now and this checks all the boxes. Can't be happier with my purchase!
google avatar

Nicole K.

Yelp
Super affordable quick takeout meal with great portion sizes. Perfect for a quick lunch stop. Bbq pork is delicious as well as the wontons. Just remember CASH ONLY.

Yelp
Was close to my work, friendly staff it was busy when I went in got the BBQ Pork and fried rice was very pleasing good taste would recommend to others.

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise! Without the help of Yelp I wouldn't be able to find this hidden gem. Chung Hing has the best barbecue pork in San Diego. I've been here twice and I have not been disappointed. The barbecue pork here is absolutely amazing. It is so moist and flavorful. Unlike other places that sell barbecue pork this one takes the cake. The flavor on the pork really stands out here. It's sweet and have absolute amazing savory notes. It was cooked perfectly. Even when I came towards the end of the day the meat was still nice and moist. The staff here is also very nice. There is a order lady that works here all the time and she is always nice to me. First time I came in I think he added some extra egg rolls and one times for me. That was a really nice. Second time around I came in to get a pound of the barbecue parts and I forgot I did not have enough cash. Instead of her being mean about it she was very nice and that's how much cash I have and she was gracious enough to scale out the amount of cash I had without giving any attitude. It seems like some other places especially with older employees they tend to get mad after that. It's mostly a takeout establishment but there are some people here that you can see that. The decor is nothing fancy or anything like that but you know your in for a good meal when you see that bbq pork glistening.

Diane V.

Yelp
Anytime I'm working in the area, this is my stop, the #1 combo the best, Been hitting this spot for a good 10 years now
google avatar

Alan O.

Yelp
Best BBQ pork for me, chicken wings are excellent! You do need cash to dine though, it would be nice if they took cards.
google avatar

J C.

Yelp
Still after over 2 decades this place is awesome. They are opened up again so you can go inside to order. The combo's are 9.59 now and cash only but worth it

Peter C.

Yelp
Been going here for 20 years. Best BBQ pork hands down. I moved out of San Diego, but made sure I always went to Chung Hing every time I visited. Now I moved back and it's still one of my go to places. The rice and chow mein is also very tasty. Family owned and operated. Love this place!
google avatar

P C.

Yelp
Great food and great value. Quick on order and can't beat the price. Great roasted pork.

M P.

Yelp
BBQ pork was marinated but lacked umami and was somewhat dry. Fried rice has no msg and therefore bland, but the chow Mein I enjoyed. Wings were good but salty, May not be everyone's thing. Cash only.
google avatar

John G.

Yelp
Quick and easy great authentic food Completely recomendable Make sure you have cash on hand

Dennis N.

Yelp
I came here at lunch during work to try places out. This is good American Chinese food. It's not what I would seek out all the time, but there's nothing negative I have about it. I don't have much to say, but it's good. 5/5 Would Have Chinese Again
google avatar

Judy C.

Yelp
Goes without saying the BBQ pork is great. But I was surprised that the a la carte mixed veggies is also great... seasoned well and cooked to perfection. Cash only.
google avatar

Jason L.

Yelp
Ive only ever ordered the BBQ pork combo here. Its delicious and what theyre known for. Sure, they make other things but why on Earth would you take that risk? The BBQ pork is their bread and butter. Subsequently, they do not serve bread nor butter. Cash only, plan accordingly.

Laura V.

Yelp
I used to work in the area. I remember it been really good. I knew it hadn't changed owners because it was the same lady. I ordered egg foo young. She slapped it in the container and when I received it. It was cold. The rice was cold, the egg foo young was cold. Ummm, she knew this and had such a bad attitude. I didn't say anything. I ordered a sprite. It was only seltzer. The Lady seemed so irritated by everything. We didn't feel welcome at all. We finally gave up.I just won't return. We said goodbye and she just looked at us. The man from the back was very nice but OMG! What is going on here? Sad to say won't return.
google avatar

Lauren T.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised by this place. I went with their #1 special, which included 2 chicken wings, 2 wontons, char siu, and fried rice. The chicken wings weren't on the same level as Royal Mandarin in National City, but they were crispy and tasty. The char siu was tender and tasty as well. At $7.95+ tax it's definitely one of the better deals on Miramar Road. I would definitely recommend "take out" because they weren't running their air conditioning when it was 85 degrees plus outside.
google avatar

Elizabeth P.

Yelp
Good Customer Service. Cash Only though. They have a good social distancing practice at this time. Prices are around $8.00 per plate for the combination plates they have. Chau siu is delicious. Orange Chicken is good as well. Chicken wings are not bad. Fried rice was good with chau siu inside of it. Egg Drop soup is okay. Definitely not bad, would come back for Chinese food.
google avatar

Jorge E.

Yelp
The food is good, #1 combo is my go to. You get what you pay for, cash only. If you're hungry and craving some fast food Chinese this is the place to go to.
google avatar

Bianca V.

Yelp
Made a trip to try San Diego's best char siu (roasted BBQ pork) and was not disappointed. I ordered number 11. The darker portions of the pork had a more sweet juicy flavor and the lighter portions were satisfyingly tender. The fried rice paired excellently with the meat too and was not overly dry. It was nice seeing that the meat was freshly prepared at lunch as I saw one cook cutting the roasted bbq pork behind the glass counter. Visited during their busy lunch hour and was disappointed they only had one cashier to get orders and help assemble them in the back since the line was starting to get very long. She tried her best and always sanitized her hands, wore a mask, and used a plastic container to give back change since they are a cash only business.
