A fixture of South Tacoma Way’s Koreatown, Chung Ki Wa offers traditional spreads and in-table grills alongside stews and seafood. Local food writers routinely recommend it, and its online menu confirms active Korean BBQ service with the classics.

냉채족발 맛있슴니다! Thank you very much for preparing it beautifully so that we can enjoy the food. This restaurant is one of the best in the area in terms of taste, service, and efficiency. I will always return for the best jokbal and bossam. The BBQ is also great, but their special kitchen dishes are superior quality.

I came in after hearing great things about this place. I’m normally at the Olympus Spa twice a week and I’ve never eaten here. Why?!?! It’s absolutely amazing. After a soak, I walked over, and even though it was just me? I was given great service. The best Korean sides I’ve EVER had and the seafood dolst was to die for. I already want more of it and I’m already planning a trip back. I listened to an audio book in my headphones and I got checked on from time to time. Absolutely recommend going in.

Google
The food here such as their BBQ ribs, spicy pork soup, rib soup with cabbage and all of their side dishes are fairly decent. The atmosphere of the restaurant is good, but the friendliness and the attentiveness of the staff can waver depending on how busy the restaurant is. When it’s really busy, the parking lot tends to get full, and expect a wait time for getting a table. Otherwise, calling ahead to reserve a table or taking your food to-go is another option.

Google
Korean BBQ it is tonight, have not had it in while, it was a little sketchy looking when I seen the place, I was saying to myself...not sure if this is the cleanest looking place from the outside, but once I entered it was all good! We were seated immediately, the wait staff was not avoiding us as previous reviews indicated! The meat was very marinated and seasoned was not a fan of the shrimp I dont like eating food when the food is looking at me🤦🏽‍♂️. I definitely recommend this restaurant if your in the Seattle Lakewood area come down a pay a visit 😉

Google
By far my favorite KBBQ in the area. Delicious food at a really good value. The sides vary in taste but are almost always really good. The best meat is the pork belly and the brisket, cooked up crispy.

Visited this restaurant on 06/21/25. Food was decent but cost was on the higher end. Ordered a large beef bulgogi (which was unexpectedly $14.00 more than the price currently listed), tofu soup (same price currently on menu), 10 PCs deep fried gyoza (but instead was charged and given the "weekly special" without knowing until I asked the server, costing an additional $10.00). All in all, I ended up paying more than I actually anticipated. Just here to say, many you may already know & reminder to self, but if what is being offered to you is NOT on the menu, ask for the cost and/or, if what you receive is DIFFERENT from what you originally ordered and was repeated, ask. Don't be caught off guard.

Google
Honestly went here with high expectations. I was very surprised with my experience over all. The service we, my wife and son were with me, had was very bad. The customers on both sides of us had great service but I had to constantly wave someone over for anything. People who were seated next to us but after us ordered prior to us. Over all the service was very bad. It may be a one off and I get that but wow. The food…. My pork was a mixed bag. My first three bites were wonderful the a large portion of the pork was not cooked well. It was not raw but soft and squishy while the properly cooked pieces tasted Smokey and like it came off a grill. With the proper amount of char to give texture without charcoal taste. I would give my food experience a 3 star as would my wife and son. The service was a one star which is why I made the over all a 2 star. I am sad to say this because my wife and I live close and I was looking forward to another good Korean restaurant to choose from.

Google
It was great ... I visited here years ago, and I do believe this is under " new" management since I have been ( 10 years ago) . Yukgaejang was awesome, galbitang was .... so much meats!!! They also hand made dumplings, not something mass produced that you get from restaurant depot or wholesale ordered. Highly recommended!!

Yelp
I am back to Lakewood once again after couple years hiatus. The restaurant is still delicious as ever, but you have to keep in mind that they don't seem to have the typical combo (soup + one meat dish) that you'd see in other Korean restaurants. That's why I decided to go for the dinner set for 3 people. The staff are very helpful and tentative to you. I thought they were very good to me. They are busy, but they still manage to come by my table & ask if I am ok. The restaurant is definitely casual. Very casual. I like this because any restaurants that look fancy just scream $$$$$$$$ for no reasons. I like the old-looking hole-in-the-wall joint as usually it's gonna be a good one.

Yelp
Great authentic Korean food. The soup was very well seasoned and wasn't too soupy which I really appreciated. The chicken was tender and crispy on the outside. The lady's were so nice and made sure we were doing well throughout our meal.

Yelp
I went with a group of 5 friends for early lunch at 11:30am today. Good thing we went early, the place fills up quickly. The service was amazing and servers even offered to cook the meat for us! We got the whole (not LA short ribs) marinated and unmarinated ribs for BBQ to start. Both were so tender and marinate was a perfect balance of salty and sweet. The ban chan (side dishes) were great and tasted fresh. We ended the meal with soy bean paste soup with rice and cold buckwheat noodles.

Yelp
This is me and my moms go to korean bbq spot. We've tried several in town all down south Tacoma way and this spot is our favorite, and there's a LOT of korean bbq spots on south Tacoma way so that says a lot. The service is always spectacular (especially since we go so often the servers know us lol) the asian ladies are so sweet. The fish cakes are my fav!! And the meat is high quality. I like my meat burnt so that's why the meat is burnt lol.
google avatar

Krissm A.

Yelp
Great tasting Korean bbq food. I got the beef short ribs and they were soooo tasty and moist. Wifey got the japchae she loved it also. The entrees came with the nicely portioned side dishes. We came at a peak time so parking was a little challenging but well worth it. I love the food.. service was ok but I understand since it was busy. definitely be back! Super friendly owners

Yelp
Today I wanted to deviate from my usual Korean BBQ place, Gangnam BBQ. I decided to go to Chung ki wa due to the different banchan offered. Ive come go the conclusion my AYCE (all you can eat) days are soon coming to an end. I just cant eat as much as I used to in one sitting. LOL. All the banchan was fresh and delicious.

Yelp
Food was very good and service was great! highly recommend coming here and I recommend the bulgogi

Yelp
My go to Korean place and my go to meal is the mulnengmyun and galbi. I swear they have the best galbi here! Every time I'm never disappointed with what I eat and my toddler loves it here too. The younger ahjuma is so friendly and brings out rice and broth for my daughter out as soon as we settle in at our table. Their side dishes are always fresh and delicious

Yelp
Food and service were great the last couple of times we were there (although there is one lady server that was annoyed bc I was not ready to order when she came around the second time). I admitted i am one of those who likes to go over the menu a couple of times. Our first visit we did all you can eat BBQ ($36 p.person) and second time around we just order what's of kitchen menu (price is fair/avg). Food is delicious on both visits. I approved :)

Yelp
The service at this restaurant is always welcoming. The food is always nicely presented and the is ambience inviting.

Yelp
Delicious authentic and expensive, but so worth it if u have an appetite, get ready to clear plates and plates of delicious meats and banchan!!!!

Yelp
The food here really is awesome I have been coming here for years and have yet to have a bad dish. I am hooked on the spicy buckwheat noodles, love it with the raw fish when it's available. The dish is spicy, sweet and a little smoky it's really good. My partner had the bibimbap which she loved. The assortment of kimchi's are always great. We ordered a kimchi pancake which was surprisingly bigger than we thought it was going to be or how good it was going to be fluffy and full of flavor. The staff were great and attentive. I was surprised at how quickly the food came out even though they seemed pretty busy.

Noah L.

Yelp
Went for the all you can eat Korean Barbecue. Food ranged from being okay to being bad and inedible. Some things were so poor quality and questionable that our table wouldn't eat them. Menu is not accessible for those with dietary restrictions and staff were unhelpful as well. Couldn't get a water refill and had to stare at a burning empty cooker for almost 15 minutes before getting our order taken again. Wouldn't return, wouldn't recommend. I can understand why their food safety rating is only "okay"

Yelp
Best place for Korean bbq. Love that you can always call in to reserve your spots. I have a dear connection to this restaurant because our guests are treated with the upmost respect regardless if they can speak Korean, look Korean, or understand Korean. The employees really try their best to make you understand what you're ordering and give you what you need for ayce.

Chris M.

Yelp
Their food is not flavorful and their service is terrible if you are not Korean. Too many great places in Korea Town, skip this one.

Anthony V.

Yelp
Straight 10 out of 10. Best Korean BBQ I've EVER had. Side dishes go insane all delicious, not to mention the great quality meat and freshness. Amazing restaurant 100% would recommend!!!!! Service is great as well. The ambience is exactly what u expect from a BBQ spot.

Yelp
My wife and I went there tonight for dinnerbwith my daughter and 2 grandsons. We order the #1 combo ($95) Pot Stickers ($11) and a Seafood Pancake ($18).The meats were great and so were the side dishes of Kim Chi etc.Pot Stickers were crispy and good .The Seafood Pancake, under cooked. The batter was still raw and it was falling apart. The service was terrible. We had to ask 3 times to get the water they asked us about when we were seated. They were clearly under staffed and avoided eye contact as we attempted to get Bean paste and order some Garlic to grill...And refills on drinks was never gonna happen. We had to get our own to go containers and then upon check out, discovered THEY HAVE A MANDATORY 18 % "Group Charge " on parties of 5 or more....This was never explained as they slid me the bill to consider a tip....I would usually do this or more but the service was terrible.I will be looking elsewhere next time for KBBQ.

Yelp
They act friendly just when you enter their place. I didn't like the service when I had to look around and keep asking instead of them coming to us to see what they missed.

Yelp
A little expensive for the all you can eat but it was really good! My first Korean bbq experience! Service was good for us! Really good sides too.

Yelp
Great food and great service! Would definitely go back. The soup seems pricey but don't let it trick you, it comes in a giant bowl for sharing!

Yelp
Came here on New Year's Eve and it was the first time I ever had KBBQ! It did not disappoint! I wasn't sure what to get but I was with someone who was familiar. We got the chicken and bulgogi and it was sooooo good. We should have stopped there but we got the brisket. I am glad we chose that last and filled up on the more tasteful food! Would have got the kalbi but didn't want to splurge to the second level when the chicken and bulgogi was plenty delish on the lower cost all you can eat. Loved the sides they brought out ! Many of them were new to me and very tasty and complimenting to the meats. The ladies were very tentative and efficient. We only had to wait about 5-10 minutes to get a table with a grill. I couldn't have asked for a better experience for my first time with Korean bbq ! I would recommend and can't wait to return !

Kristin B.

Yelp
Side dishes were really delicious. Compared to other kbbqs, the staff were more attentive here. I would definitely come back here.

Melinda P.

Yelp
Favorite KBBQ spot. Staff is super friendly. Ask for lettuce (additional charge) with your meal & thank me later!

Yelp
If you'd like some free Covid, this is your spot. They like to recycle the same plastic menu from one customer to another. Literally grabbed the one from our table and then gave it to the next person coming in and continued like a merry go round. I used to be a regular but after getting sick, I took a break. The place is still filthy. The food used to be good but this place likes to cut corners whenever possible. Anything to save a few cents. Whether you order naeng myun (cold noodles) or anything of their new menu, they'll get you just to save a few cents here and there. Barely anything but noodles and liquid for the naengmyeon. For the fried chicken, they show you a nice Pic from another restaurant that actually serves thighs, legs, breasts, etc. What you really get are frozen, cash and carry small, buffalo wings like at BUFFALO WILD WINGs. For Kalbee, it's not choice or prime. It's not even select. It's some utility cut of beef from a dairy or old pet food grade cow. Place is still nasty but if you like that kind of stuff, it's party time!

Shannon W.

Yelp
There was a long wait for service, both at the door and at our table. The server did not want to bring us water and tea just thought we should have one or the other. Food was tasty. Not extra special. Probably would not go again.
google avatar

Max K.

Yelp
Still fantastic! So happy to see them reopen for phase 2! The food was fantastic, service was spot on, the meat sauce/dipping sauce is really good, the banchans are great. You really can't go wrong here and the price is pretty good for Washington!

Yelp
I should have taken pictures to justify my 1 star. I barely give 1 star, but this was just bad. The service was good so this review is not based on that. This review is based on the quality of the food. We wanted korean bbq and they have 2 sides to the restaurant. One side is the traditional grill that you use for korean bbq and the other side is the regular entrees that do not require you to grill anything. However, there is the option to use the portable gas stove and a portable grill on the regular restaurant side when the grilling side was full. So that's what happened to us, which we do not recommend. The grill does not grill the meat the same way on the traditional grills. And it cooks much slower. The meats we tried were the pork belly, brisket, kalbi, and marinated chicken. The brisket was very dry, had no fat and was rubbery. The kalbi and pork belly were okay but the flavors were a bit off. The marinated chicken also had a very peppery taste which I'm not used to at korean bbq restaurants. I'm used to marinated chicken for korean bbq to be sweet. To top it off, the lettuce they give us to wrap were not fresh looking and there was a fly on it. Don't think I would be returning unfortunately.

Yelp
I went here with a group of 4 and we really wanted to go to Cham Garden but of course they were closed on Monday. Pretty much the only difference from the $19.99 AYCE and $25 AYCE is kalbi, but I felt like the kalbi wasn't worth the extra money. There were more bone than meat and I wish they had a spicy kalbi version. The octopus was pretty good, but shrimp was definitely not fresh. The other meats and side dishes were pretty good. I definitely got my Korean BBQ fix but the service was horrendous. I had asked the waitress for the same thing at least 3 times and never got it in the end. Our table were in need of more water and we had our cups on the edge of the table to make it easier to refill but we never got it refilled until maybe 15 minutes later when the owner came by. I think if we were Korean maybe we'd have better service, but it shouldn't have been a problem when our table had requested certain things multiple times. 2 stars because the food was not bad at all, but horrible service do not do them justice when the AYCE section is pretty small. I don't think we'll be coming here anymore.

Yelp
4get about brkfst! 4get about dinner! 'cause this will b the only meal ur going 2 have the whole day or maybe the whole wk.. I mean I ate a whole bunch of meat! their Bulgogi n Kalbi were marinated pretty good.. nice n sweet/savory taste.. had fun cooking our stuff.. as u can tell, we don't do much Korean BBQ AYCE that's b/c we rather have somebody cook it 4 us, but this 1 is probly the best so far compared to another Korean BBQ AYCE that we had in Federal Way.. I think the name was Kam Kung or something like that? anyways.. we also had Black Pork Belly, Shrimp, Pork Steak, Thin Slices of Beef Brisket n their banchan was the best I had by far.. b/c they had seafood pancake n japchae as part of their small plates that came out service on the other hand.. was night n day.. where u have 1 waitress is extremely rude n walks away.. twice while I was asking questions n then the other who was nice n listened n answered.. Jekyll & Hyde.. like give me Hyde that is if Hyde is the more pleasant 1.. buffet cost a little more than most places.. would've went for the $19.99 one but it doesn't have the Kalbi like the $25.99 one, so u know which 1 I chose.. 4 Stars b/c of Jekyll

Yelp
We ended up here after another nearby Korean BBQ place missed our reservation by half an hour. Chun Ki Wa was weirdly industrial, making me feel like I was in their kitchen instead of the dining room. But I guess that's appropriate considering we were cooking our own food. That's the appeal of an all-you-can-eat BBQ buffet: they serve you bloody mounds of raw meat and you watch it sizzle until it's ready to be eaten. We were seated at the end of a two-group table jutting out into the middle of the room. There were loud oven fans overhead and we had to shout to be heard across the table, so nothing about this experience felt intimate or comfortable. The all-you-can-eat menu was nice. $20 gives you access to a nice array of different meat options, including bulgogi, shrimp, pork intestines, and chewy baby octopus. Since they're all included, there's no harm in being adventurous. You place your first order and they bring out a slew of tiny little appetizer plates followed by the slabs of meat. They place the meat on the grill in the center of the table and then mash it around with the tongs. The bulgogi and the marinated pork ribs were the highlights. We also tried the shrimp, which proved to be more trouble than they were worth; they're served raw and whole, meaning you have to remove the heads, tails, feed, shell, and devein them with your hands. Popping the heads off results in a slosh of shrimp fluids, and after all that, there's just a tiny little morsel left. It's just messy. The pacing was odd. They took our second order when we were halfway through the first round. Then after the second round came, they didn't ask again until long after we had finished (even with all the shrimp labor). By waiting, people are less likely to order more, but we did anyway. They brought another giant round of bulgogi and asked if we'd like a half order, so that was courteous. A simple search revealed no shortage of Korean BBQ places just on S Tacoma Way. I didn't really enjoy being at Chun Ki Wa, and will try another one next time we're in the mood for some meat sweats.

Yelp
All you can eat, hardworking waiters, good price, whats not to love? Just dont leave leftover meat for all you can eat or youll have to pay.
google avatar

James C.

Yelp
Been here several times. Staff is friendly food is very good. Side dishes are amazing!

Yelp
Great food, good prices, prompt service!!! They changed out to a new grill plate once it got too burnt which was nice.
google avatar

Yelp
For 23.99 we get those beef ribs , so good, it's the best meat so we had to do the 23.99 For just 19.99 without Marinated meat was delicious, the sides weren't he best but good enough I liked that they don't charge extra for left over meat if it wasn't cooked The pork belly wasn't the best here compared to other places

Yelp
A quieter spot for kbbq in Lakewood, but just as good as any other. Quick and super sweet service.

Ryann D.

Yelp
Horrible experience! I paid over 100$ and just when I get the meal they say they are out of glass noodles hands down the best. Beyond disappointed, have been coming for a couple of years but will not be back.

Raine T.

Yelp
Best food. Best side dishes in town. I really love coming in this place. Customer service is on point. Ambiance is great!

Russell S.

Yelp
Best Korean BBQ! heres the catch.... They limit the time you can eat... and after they drop a few plates of meat off, they avoid you to waste time. make sure you are assertive in getting your portions, cause they'll avoid you.

Yelp
I've been going here for years with my family and usually have a great time per my last review. Unfortunately, the waitress tonight was extremely rude to myself and my family. My aunt called to make a reservation for 12 and was told they don't take reservations and just to come since they're not busy. Half our party show up and they give us a table for 8. We asked for a table for 12 and they told us the empty tables were reserved for people who called ahead. I asked if it was for our family and she told us no. No problem, the table of 4 just finished eating near by so if they clear it we can carry on with our night. The rest of our party shows up and the waitress shrugs us off and leaves us with the 8 person table and dirty looks as she passes by. I explain what happened to the rest of our party and my aunt asks the other waitress if we can have the other table and the rude waitress butts in and raises her voice to say we never called in the first place. Appalled by her behavior, we left and went to Palace down the road. We had great service there and were easily accommodated without being yelled at. I hate to sound like a 'Karen' but we will never be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Chung Ki Wa BBQ was extremely delicious, quick to seat the 10 of us, and their service was the best we've had here in Washington! Servers were constantly running back and forth to all tables and making sure everyone was happy, grills were switched out when needed, and assisted those who didn't know how to cook. Absolutely loved my meal here, and the workers made it all the more better ^-^ The lady looked so happy when we all walked in, and it was a nice change from 10 minutes ago when we left the other KBBQ restaurant right across the street. We had just left the Palace BBQ and let's just say they had the worst service I've seen and we immediately came here after rude comments and smug looks from their employees. Left a bad review for them if you'd like to compare to this wonderful place. Would 10/10 recommend Chung Ki Wa! :)

Yelp
Best Korean bbq in the area. Good variety and quality of sides, fresh meat, and nice service. The other places in the area have terrible service.

Yelp
This negative review isn't based off their food, it's based off my terrible experience I had with the owner herself the other night. I am new to the area so I actually haven't eaten here yet, but I really did try to. I was searching on Google for a local kbbq because ya know, cravings!! I always like to read reviews first and so I had read a good enough amount of decent reviews (Google) that I decided to give them a shot but honestly too, they were one of the very few places still open. It was July 3rd and I called at 9:20PM; I spoke to a woman, placed a to-go order for 1 Spicy Pork Belly and 1 Beef Bulgogi. Got off the phone, shoot! I forgot to order gyoza! This was totally my fault and maybe this wouldn't have happened if I had remembered, but I called back within a few min to try and add it. I recognized the voice so I knew it was the same person, I explained that I had just placed a to go order with her a few min ago, I apologized because I forgot one thing and asked her if it was too late to add fried potstickers. I said fried potstickers hoping it wouldn't cause any confusion because that's how it's listed online on their seamless menu. She said, uhh? What you want order?? I said I want to add 1 order of fried potstickers to my to go order I just placed and she either didn't get it or couldn't hear since she asked again what I wanted so I repeated what I said but tried to simplify it more. She then said fried something something? I couldn't even tell you what she said but it def wasn't what I was asking for so again said no, fried potstickers. Still not understanding she asked me where are you? I said huh? Where am I? She goes, yeah you come restaurant you order here we no take long you wait. I'm thinking, did I call the wrong place?! I explained everything again- I don't need to go there, I already have an order, I already spoke with you, you took my order for " ", I called to order more because I forgot something. She goes ohh so now, I'm thinking she gets it. I hear her speaking Korean to someone, then comes back "we no have no order for the potsticker you no call here you call wrong restaurant" I said I do not have an order for just potstickers you have my order for " ", I called again to add to my order that you are already making. Still, "we no have no one talk to you I only have 3 server no one say talk to you and me I owner". I'm like I don't know how else to tell you that I just spoke to you, you the owner and you are saying you don't have my order for " "? I don't get it, do you not have any orders? No one placed to go orders tonight?? She then loudly SIGHS all annoyed, of course again but rudely said no no order! I was so irritated going back and forth with her so I told her never mind, forget it since apparently no one spoke to me and no one has my order, that means nobody will be calling to let me know my order is ready because it doesn't exist. All I hear is huff and puff "no" so I hung up. BUT, guess who's calling almost 30 minutes later?? HER!! I answered, I wanted to hear what she had to say.. the SAME lady THE OWNER, "hello when you come? you order ready" I was like what order?! I just spoke to you remember you just said you didn't have my order when I called back to try and add the potstickers, now all of a sudden my order that you said didn't exist is ready?? I thought you said I called the wrong restaurant too? *Crickets* Was and still am mind blown, I don't even understand how. Maybe I'm being harsh but if a customer is on the phone adamantly explaining to you that they placed an order with you specifically, then there has to be some sort of truth to it so take a second to figure it out! Don't be rude just because you think you're absolutely right. BTW, attached screenshots of my call log... first called/ordered 9:20, called back 9:25 & line was busy, called again 9:26 when this went down, and then incoming 9:52 she called. As you can see, yes I called the correct place.

Yelp
Classic all you can eat K BBQ Great kimchi, the Asian pancake was very good too, perfectly seasoned sides The meat was well seasoned and tasty The soy paste was spot on flavor profile Good and spicy too Solid bulgogi, spicy and tender The soybean paste soup was a bit salty for my preference A south Tacoma gem I will return!

Yelp
This spot was legit. Under new management but they kept the same staff which was a great move seeing as the servers were going nonstop in and out of the kitchen making no table wait or feel left behind. If you're looking for great food, great customer service, and good vibes this the spot. Usually I go for the cheaper places but this was definitely money well spent. Coming from a Samoan who was had many KBBQ in my life, this the one

Yelp
This place is absolute trash! Horrible customer service and probably the worst Korean food I've ever had! Do NOT recommend!
