"Droves came out to support Katy Asian Town’s Chung Wang BBQ when the owner Miao Liao’s husband died of cancer in March 2020. Alex Au-Yeung, the James Beard Award-nominated chef of Phat Eatery, wrote to the group in July 2020, “imploring (them) to swing by Katy Asian Town to grab some Chinese BBQ” at the neighboring restaurant. He also added Chung Wang to Phat Eatery’s delivery system to make it easier for people to support them. Au-Yeung’s post garnered 228 shares and nearly 100 comments. Both Wong and Vu said Liao was moved to tears after seeing lines of customers wrapped around the corner for pickup and delivery. The support lasted for days, said Liao’s sister Emily Liao." - Brittany Britto Garley

We thought we would grab a quick bite . Love the feel of restaurant when you go in you see the duck, chicken, Ribs and pork hanging . We got the barbecue pork and roasted duck . They both came with a large portion of white rice and steaming hot cabbage . Portions are nice size for the price . Duck was crispy and tender . Barbecue pork had nice amount of fat on it and was tender with great flavor . Prices were 13.99 and 15.99. Check it out you will not be disappointed 😀

5 stars If you’re a fan of Cantonese BBQ, Chung Wang BBQ in Katy Asian Town is a must-visit! We ordered a full feast—three meat combo with roast duck, crispy pork belly, and BBQ pork, stir-fried greens, chicken wings, salt & pepper fried pork chops, and soft stir-fried flat rice noodles (hủ tiếu xào mềm). Every single dish was flavorful, fresh, and cooked to perfection. The BBQ pork was juicy and tender, the pork belly had that perfect crispy skin, and the roast duck was rich and savory. The stir-fried noodles were a major highlight—chewy, saucy, and loaded with beef and greens. Even after sitting for a while, everything still tasted amazing. To top it off, the service was excellent. Our waiter was super friendly and outstanding—attentive, helpful, and made us feel genuinely welcome. Generous portions, great value, authentic flavors, and amazing service. Can’t wait to come back!

The room wasn’t too big but the food was excellent! With reasonable price! I got three meat combo for 13.99! Good amount of meat for three meat and the price. I love their crispy pork and cha shao pork! Haven’t got chance to a lot more yet though.

Google
If you’re craving authentic, mouthwatering Chinese BBQ, this place is an absolute must-try! The meats are perfectly marinated, juicy, and grilled to perfection with that smoky, savory flavor you just can’t get enough of. The portion sizes are generous, and the variety is amazing — from tender BBQ pork and crispy duck to melt-in-your-mouth ribs. The flavors are rich but not greasy, and every bite has that perfect balance of sweet, savory, and umami. The sauces and sides complement the BBQ so well, making the whole meal feel like a real treat. The staff is friendly, service is quick, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming — perfect for a casual meal with friends or family. Highly recommended for anyone who loves authentic Chinese BBQ done right. I’ll definitely be coming back for more!

Google
The food was so delicious! They were able to substitute the pork meat for chicken meat in our pan fried noodle order when we asked. The three meat combo was pretty flavorful and reminded me of Chinatown BBQ spots in NY. They were pretty attentive and even brought the food at our table.

Google
The food we ordered was phenomenal! We had an order of roast duck, 1.25 pounds of roast pork belly, 0.75 pounds of spare ribs in honey sauce, and an order of the garlic stir fried green beans. All of the meats were wonderfully juicy, crispy, and full of flavor! The woman who took our order, Kitty, was SO sweet and welcoming! We mentioned to her that it was our first time and she gave us an order of Beef Chow Fun for free! Of course, it was SO good - not too salty, with noodles perfectly al dente! I look forward to my next visit to Katy to visit Kitty at Chung Wang!

Google
This place is a major rip off. I paid $26 dollars for a DUCK BREAST combo plate and drink. I didn’t receive duck breast at all. I got the saddest little pieces of duck ever cooked. They charge $9 for half a head of sautéed cabbage and for mineral water I received two mini bottles of Kirkland water. This was a major waste of money. Thank god DoorDash refunded me my money.

Yelp
Amazing experience at this place it's small but has a very authentic and welcoming environment! The food was ready fast and was absolutely DELICIOUS! This restaurant is a MUST visit if you're in the area.

Yelp
I usually get the A22 which is incredible but I have fallen in love with the BBQ pork over rice. If you live in Houston and think you have had good Chinese food, you need to try this Cantonese food as it WILL be your new favorite.

Yelp
When you're not in the mood to cook at home and want a hearty meal, look no further than Chung Wang for some Cantonese BBQ. The customer service is quick, friendly and the entree prices are decent. We got two bento's to-go: Roast Duck over Rice ($12.99) and Soy Sauce Chicken over Rice ($10.99). The meat is about 1/8 of a bird, a full bed of steamed rice, and a pint of sautéed cabbage. Make sure you ask for the minced ginger and chili oil to use as condiments in addition to their slightly sweet soy sauce. The restaurant is more of a takeout spot, as the seating is a bit limited. If you have rice and sides at home, just order some barbecued meats by the pound, a 1/2 or whole chicken/duck, and have a wonderful family feast!

Yelp
The meat is always so tender and delicious, we drive 40 mins weekly for a taste! For your first time here we recommend getting one of the plates with all the types of meat so you can know which types you like the most. We were introduced to Chung Wang at the Asia Society's annual Night Market, and feel so lucky ever since.

Yelp
A small spot found in the back corners of Katy Asiatown lies a pretty solid Chinese BBQ restaurant next to Phat Eatery called Chung Wang BBQ. I have heard of this place many times over the past year or so, and I decided that it was time to try it. Chung Wang BBQ offers a variety of various Chinese BBQ dishes and food such as Char Siu (BBQ Pork), Roasted Duck, Sel-Gee (Roasted Pork with Crispy Skin), Soy Sauce Chicken and other made to order items. This place vaguely reminds me of Siu Lap City in Midtown if you've been there. It's also similar to Wing Kee and Alan's Deli in one of the popular Chinatown areas. Just so you know, when you go in, you order at the register, and you can order for dine-in or carry out. They will call your number on your receipt when your food is ready. We were confused at first cause we didn't know where to go, but overall it was a smooth process, and the people working there were fairly nice and friendly.

Yelp
While standing in line waiting for my turn to place my order, the employees seemed flustered with some togo order. They might have given out the wong order. When it was my time to order, I specifically told the guy I wanted A10 (roasted pork with duck). It's listed as costing $12.99 on the menu. Well, looking at my receipt, I was charged $12.99 but charged an additional $1.00 for duck. Why? The menu specifically says "Roasted Duck, Roasted Pork on Rice" for $12.99.

Yelp
The restaurant is small and can be loud, but it's what I expect from a small Cantonese restaurant. The service was a little slow. However, they were apologetic because it was a busy night. The wonton soup tasted good! Simple, but clean flavors and not too salty. The Peking duck however, was a let down. The duck was cut very oddly, all chopped up instead of nice thin slices as you can see in the photo. The skin wasn't crispy either. Hopefully, it was just an off night for them.

Yelp
Solid 4 stars for a to go rice box and 3 meats (duck, roast pig and bbq pork) Plenty of rice and cabbage with flavorful meat. Yum. Classic and simple. Small seating area. Perfect setup for simple good Chinese bbq meats and rice. Service was friendly and nice.

Yelp
Nestled in a cozy corner of Katy Asian Town, Chung Wang BBQ is a gem for lovers of authentic Cantonese barbecue. The star of the show is undoubtedly the barbecue meats, each carefully prepared to perfection. Whether it's the succulent char siu with its caramelized glaze or the crispy-skinned roast duck boasting tender, flavorful meat, every bite is a symphony of taste and texture. The aroma alone is enough to whet your appetite. Beyond the delicious barbecue offerings, they also offer a selection of traditional Cantonese sides and accompaniments. We tried their Yuan Chow fried rice and absolutely loved the wok flavor in it! The owners are delightful and accommodating with our questions.

Yelp
This was a fail on Uber eats. I was looking so forward for this too. So sad!! Nothing is good today. I should've came to get it myself
google avatar

Christopher C.

Yelp
Solid place for char siu pork - got a16 and I enjoyed it throughly - a tad salty at times, but cannot complain. Next time, I'd get the char siu only! Beef chow fun is salty and pad see ew (-esque) Cheers!

Yelp
Craving Asian food I stopped in here for lunch on my way out of Houston. Quickly greeted by the cashier as I was trying to decide what to eat from the pictures on the glass. I love fried pork chops (I make some great friend pork chops myself) so it was an easy choice. Took about 10 minutes for my order to come out and it was so worth the few minutes I had to wait. Perfectly crisp, meat was juicy, and the fat was rendered like butter. The onions and peppers they stir fry with them is tasty too. I can't say I've ever had a better pork chop in my life and I've eaten my weight in them. If you live in or near Houston, get over here and try them. So damn good!!! If you're passing through, it's an easy stop off I-10 & 99.

Yelp
I can't quite pinpoint what makes this place so delicious, but every time I find myself around Katy Asian Town, I'm irresistibly thinking about eating at Chung Wang BBQ. My usual preference is takeout, although there's still some room to dine in. Despite that they are always busy, they manage to serve with remarkable speed. When it comes to choosing dishes, I often find myself unable to decide, so I opt for the three-meat combo, featuring char siu (pork meat), roasted pork, and soy sauce chicken. The soy sauce chicken strikes the perfect balance of flavors, the roasted pork boasts an irresistibly crispy texture, and the char siu is exceptionally tender. Just thinking about it now as I write this is enough to stir up my hunger. I won't linger on words; my advice is to grab a takeout and savor the experience.

Yelp
We discovered an authentic Hong Kong-style flavor at Katy Asian Market. This genuine flavor transports you directly to the streets of Hong Kong.

Yelp
I love the duck! My husband picked up lunch for us today. I love how my order was packed with care. I got the three meat: chicken, duck, and honey pork. They didn't forget my sauces and the cabbage was crunchy just the way I like it! The food looks so beautiful but tastes even better.

Claudine V.

Yelp
Food is always awesome and love how friendly everyone is. Don't miss this hidden gem of amazing Cantonese food in Katy.
google avatar

Yelp
This small Chinese bbq spot offers a variety of rice plates and several other vegetable and noodle dishes. I ordered at the self-order screen. There's around 10 tables and the food is served in to go containers. I got the soy sauce chicken rice plate and the beef chow fun. The chicken was a sliced up portion of bone-in meat with the skin, fat, and all. There was a large portion of rice and some steamed cabbage. It was a lot of food for the price but not much actual meat. My favorite was the beef chow fun. It was hot and fresh. The beef was tender and the bean sprouts were nice and crisp. I would recommend maybe getting the noodles to go but I would try something else in the future since there are so many restaurants in Katy Asia Town.
google avatar

Lela Y.

Yelp
Great service and food was delicious! Love the beef chow fun and the Peking duck.. bbq ribs and pork belly are a must try!
google avatar

Hayley F.

Yelp
The restaurant reminds me of a small cafeteria with limited seating. The restaurant smells so good when I opened the door. I got hungrier. I had the double meat portion of roast duck on rice, and chicken and char siu on rice. The meats were fragrant, tender, and juicy. The portions were generous. Sharing is a good idea, but why share the good food when you can have all for yourself? Service was good, and staff were friendly. Will come back again for more yummy food.
google avatar

Danna T.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place if you're in the Katy area craving Chinese BBQ but aren't willing to drive out to Bellaire Chinatown. Prices are great, portions are decent, service is quick and has improved over time. Ambiance is casual. This place gets packed sometimes, which makes me so happy to see!
google avatar

Yelp
Casual eats, Cantonese bbq place in Katy asian town. We ordered a won ton noodle soup 9.99 and a roast duck noodle soup 12.99. 5%off if pay cash. Noodles were excellent but the soup base needs improvement. E.g. add leeks instead of green onions; add taitei fish powder; provide a soup spoon instead of a teaspoon. Roast duck was outstanding and freshly made but wish it was hotter. You may want there or to go, but parking on a Saturday even at 140pm was challenging. I forgot to mention the tasty 'ox tongue' pastry 牛利酥4.00, which was good and authentic. Of course, it wasn't made by ox tongue!! It's better than a french donut! I like it
google avatar

Yelp
They duck is very different not dry I am Chinese ate duck all my life. Just discovering Chung wang BBQ Is the best. I wish if the prices is not too high.

Yelp
OMG this place is so freaking good!!!!! First time going here but where going to another business in same area HMart..(also a must try) I ordered Duck and Pork Belly lo mien and it was soooo good. They cut up meat right off the meat hanging in the window... Service was great and they give samples first so you can decide on which meat you want to order. Prices are good and servings are huge. The only draw back is the place is really small with limited tables but today we got here before the rush. Other customers tell us they're usually packed and hard to get in...
google avatar

David Y.

Yelp
I'd been wanting to eat here for a while. Roast ducks and pork bellies can regularly be seen hanging in the front window. My wife and I stopped in for lunch and got an order of vegetable egg rolls, half of a roast duck, and garlic green beans. We were the only ones eating in, but several people ordered takeout while we were there. The service was quick! The duck came out immediately, with freshly stir-fried green beans and deep-fried egg rolls soon to follow. Everything was good! I intend to go back for the Peking duck!

Yelp
Fantastic chinese bbq paired with great customer service paired with a nice cozy interior makes for an excellent spot for a casual lunch. At Chung Wang, I tried some of the best roast pork and roast duck ever. The char sui was delicious and the soy sauce chicken was pretty good too. We ordered two sets of the two meat rice plate, and order of dumplings, and an order of pig ear and intestine noodles. The two meat rice plate comes with a generous portion of white rice, two meats of your choice, and a side of veggies. The rice and veggies are comparable to all the other bbq places but the meat is what makes them stand out. The roast pork was juicy with a crispy top. The roast duck had excellent flavor and didn't feel too fatty. The char sui was fatty fatty fatty! Soy sauce chicken tasted good but was slightly dry. The dumplings were plump and stuffed to the brim with juicy meat. The only dish that wasn't great was the pig ear and intestine noodle dish. The pig ear was much too hard and the intestine pieces were too chewy. It seemedike they hadn't spent long enough on the stove. One member of our party informed the front desk and a few minutes later the chef came out with a replacement dish. This one was super tender and yummy.
google avatar

Angie M.

Yelp
"Never go to H Mart hungry!" So we stopped here to grab lunch first. Love the flavor of their meats: tender, juicy, cooked well, and again, FLAVORFUL. Loads of choices and combinations, and the portion sizes are great-perhaps you'll have leftovers if you exercise some self control...the roasted duck is to die for-with a sweet, caramelized glaze. Fun, casual dining in- either with your own plate, or share for a family-style experience that seems to be popular here, or to go. A win for us!

Yelp
Located in Katy Asian town, chung wang bbq is honestly a staple in the area. They have roast pork, duck, chicken, char siu and even noodles. Although I don't usually dine in because the eating area is rather small and could need a little upgrade, the food has always traveled well. We usually order 1-2 pounds of the duck, char siu, and pork belly and 10 out of 10 times I have not need disappointed. They also offer lunch portions of rice and noodles. We called to inquire about buying a whole roasted pig and if you're looking for this service, it's about $300!

Yelp
3.5/5 * Chung Wang doesn't look like much in the sea of eateries in KAT, since location wise, its facing away from the main thoroughfares around that area and can easily be missed. I don't frequent chinese BBQ much, but when I do I typically go to Chung Wang for their char sui and roast pork. We got their two meat combo and the meats were absolutely on point and delish. However a couple of things I wish could have been better. First the amount of meat served seemed to be on the lesser side and they could definitely have been a little more generous with a few more pieces of char sui and roast pork, nbd. Second, the pricing on the two meat combo came in at ~$16.50, which to me, seemed a bit steep. However I understand market pricing these days are out of whack thanks to inflation. If they did add a few more pieces of meat on their for that pricing, then I wouldn't mind as much. On the other hand, they did load up our box with rice and cabbage to make it a lot fuller. I appreciate this since I've been to many places where they would sheist on the meat and rice and still charge you a good amount. Facility wise, you know its an asian owned restaurant when you see dry inventory being stored outside in the dining area. Asians always look for deals and load up whenever they go replenishing their inventories regardless if they have room to store it. (Restaurant kid myself) Either way - Taste wise, Chung Wang hits the spot, however there are a few things they could work on to be even better.

Yelp
The food here is great here. Every time I visited Katy, I go here. The bbq pork is awesome, roasted dick is good too. I highly recommand this place.

Yelp
Chicken congee and Peking pork chops were delicious! Service was quick, and food was really flavorful.

Cindia Q.

Yelp
Went here early in the afternoon and saw that their chicken, ducks, and all meats looked fabulous and were all plump and glistening. However, since we already ate, we didn't get anything. We came back towards dinner time and decided to get take out. There were people in the restaurant eating their takeout and it seemed pretty busy. It might be because it was towards the end of the day, but the meats no longer looked fresh and everything looked not that appetizing anymore. I still feel like that shouldn't be the case because they probably would have cooked new meats throughout the day. Nonetheless we ordered the half a duck, half a chicken, and a large rice which totaled a CRAZY amount of around 50! There definitely is better for the price and especially for the quality, which we soon realized after we went home and took a bite. Meats were extremely salty and overall just too oily, especially the roasted duck. Disappointed to say the least and will not be coming back.

Regis V.

Yelp
The roast pork had perfectly crispy skin, the duck was delicious and well seasoned. I also enjoyed my noodles. I highly recommend the soup dumplings, as well. They are large and come in individual cups. Service was quick, and staff was very hospitable.
google avatar

Mai H.

Yelp
Bad food, you can do much better in Houston's Chinatown. My order was dry and seemed old, duck was mostly bone. I saw them take out 2 pieces of meat from my box after scaling. Super unethical.
google avatar

Tiffany N.

Yelp
Best Peking duck in Katy! The pancake is so thin and duck is crispy! Make sure you ask for the duck bones if you want to make soup at home!

Michael S.

Yelp
Great Chinese BBQ. Started going when they just started . Best Roast Duck in Houston !!!

Yelp
ClusterFK of a place!! I walk in and give the lady my order. Short hair, cap with glasses. She takes my order but also giving the previous customers their orders which is fine. They were there before me. But then this guy comes behind me and gives his order. He has a large order. She preps the boxes for his damn order and starts ringing it up. At this point I said out loud in front of her you know what? Fk this! And walked out. I know she and the dude looked and idgaf. How you going to ring up someone else order when I gave you my order before him? Unprofessional and clusterfk of a customer service! And to think I was giving this place another try after so long only to say fk this place again.

Samantha D.

Yelp
Can't really tell how good the food is since they skimp out on meat. Got the 2 meat (ribs and peking duck) combo with rice. It was a whole bunch of rice and very little meat. I mostly got bones too. What little I did have was good, but not worth the money to pay for rice and bones.
google avatar

Kendra S.

Yelp
My first time trying Cantonese cuisine and I must say it did not disappoint. The restaurant itself is small and provides a homey welcome. There is a display in the front window of meats being cooked to perfection. When I entered the establishment, I was greeted warmly. The service was great. I ordered the BBQ Pork LoMein and Steamed Shrimp Dumplings. Both were amazing, the shrimp dumplings were fresh and packed with flavor. The BBQ Pork was a little fatty in my opinion but was so tender and delicious. I will definitely be back to try more!!
google avatar

Vivian F.

Yelp
* More like 4.5 * I know friends who drive all the way out to Katy for this place. Friendly, filling and authentic bbq place. The charsiu sauce was thick and sweet. The roast duck was juicy as well. Don't forget the beef flat noodles - a must!!
google avatar

Tonyia F.

Yelp
Oh. My. Granny. I'm speechless. Everything was sooo freaking delicious. Tried the Peking Duck for the first time. Although pricey, it's worth EVERY penny. Comes with crepes, hoisin sauce, sliced cucumbers and sliced green onions. Even half the duck was more than enough for two people. The BBQ chicken was so moist and full of flavor. The roasted duck was exquisite. The employees were helpful and provided details on what we were ordering. They also had a great sense of humor. It's not much to see inside or out but honestly that has NOTHING to do with the great food they serve.
google avatar

Donna D.

Yelp
Absolutely divine!! Everything was absolutely delicious. I'll definitely be back since I can't get Peking duck back home!
google avatar

Sophia T.

Yelp
I frequent Chung Wang every time I come to Houston to get BBQ rice plates or lbs of meat for my family. This recent trip has rubbed me the wrong way. I ordered two 2 meat rice plates. One plate with chicken and duck and the other with BBQ pork and duck. My first plate had a total of 9 pieces of meat if you would even call it that. I paid $1 for each piece of meat???? R u kidding me? If I had known they would skimp out on the meat like this, I would have just gotten half a duck or 1lb of BBQ pork. Will not be coming back.

Yelp
We were in the area and wanted to grab something simple and comforting for lunch. As soon as we opened the door we were greeted by the sweet and savory aroma of Chinese BBQ, we knew we were in for a treat. This is a very small restaurant with limited seating so if you want a table it's best to get there before the crowd. Customer service was amazing and very patient as we were deciding what to order. You order your food at the counter then grab a table. As we were waiting for our food, we noticed a lot of people were doing big orders to go and lots of phone in orders as well, that's when you know the food has to be good. Soy Sauce Chicken and Roasted Pork Belly on Lo Mein (4 stars) was really delicious. The chicken was really juicy and cooked to perfection. The skin on the chicken was paper thin and not fatty at all. The sauce had a nice sweet/savory and some umami. Roasted pork belly had a very nice crispy skin but the meat had a little more fat then we would've liked but overall the flavor was on point. The vegetable that came with it was very tender and really compliments the fattiness from the pork. The noodles were amazing, great flavors and had a nice chewiness to it. BBQ Pork and Roasted Duck on Rice (4 stars) was also very yummy! BBQ Pork was really tender and juicy. Sometimes I find BBQ Pork a little too sweet but this establishment had it right. It was probably our favorite meat of this meal. The Roasted Duck was very good, it's not the best but we've had. Surprisingly I really loved the simple stir fried cabbage, the flavors were very subtle with nice texture and crunch. It's nice to know that you can get delicious Chinese BBQ without having to drive to Chinatown. We will definitely be back to try the other stuff on the menu but BBQ Pork will always be on the list haha.

Yelp
KATY, TX / CHINESE BBQ / 01-10-22 / TAKE-OUT DINNER +The roast pork belly was seasoned nicely; super crispy crunchy skin on the outside, while the meat was moist and tender on the inside. 13.99 per pound. +The roast duck (half, 16.99) was seasoned and prepared very well. Some cut parts had a lot of extra fat, which could've been rendered down more during the roasting process (imo). +The Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce (6.00) was good; it had a lot of umami flavor to it. -Like most of the reviews, the place is not clean. One of the workers were eating duck and spitting bones in her bare hand and continuing on with work. -We found a human hair in our roast pork belly packing. -The roast duck sauce was a bit too salty for our liking. -Customer service is not friendly, but most Chinese establishments aren't ;) -Cash discount; I didn't know businesses still accept cash today ;) -No loyalty rewards program. Overall; Houston has a big Chinese community, so it is going to be hard to go back to this barbecue joint. Will be in search of some good Chinese BBQ, but if you run across this review, give them some Yelp love and check them out!

Yelp
The cashier- an Asian male- is not honest. You need to check your bill carefully or you might get charged on something random.

Yelp
Food: 4.7- great and very authentic. Service: 4.5 - very nice, friendly, and generous staff. Ambiance: 3.9 I love Chung Wang BBQ. They have authentic Cantonese style. My favorite are charsiu, roasted pork, chicken, and wonton. They also have some desserts in bottles. These have good ingredients for your health. Cant go wrong if you wanna try Cantonese food here at Chung Wang. Cons: The ambiance is not "great", chilling, relaxing if you look for a place for a date, or family dine-out.

Yelp
I swing by here every two weeks to grab some bbq pork and pig to bring home for a few days. If I want the food as a meal I'll grab the rice plate to go. Great food and good service. It's always good to chat with the local people as they speak both Vietnamese, Mandarin and Cantonese. Prices on their food per lb has gone up but the quality is still good.

Yelp
The roast pork and duck was flavorful and juicy. Crispy pork skin. Nice casual Chinese bbq spot. Straightforward service.
