Chungking Noodles - Review - Kreuzberg - Berlin - The Infatuation

"If visiting Berlin in the winter, you could crank the heat up in your hotel room, make a blanket fort, and vow to never leave the warmth but a better idea is to head to ChungKing noodles for a bowl of spicy noodles. Between the strong flavors of ginger and garlic, free-range meat, handmade noodles, and copious amounts of chili oil, the food here is unlike what you’ll find anywhere else in Berlin. And even if you’re here in June, these noodles are worth a little temple sweat. The bar seats at the front are nice for watching the open kitchen, but the tables at the back are much comfier and more spacious (so yes, they’re worth the wait)." - Barbara Woolsey

This was on my list for such a long time. I got the beef noodles with regular spice, I liked the aroma of the spice mix, it was delicious. The service was good and my food came pretty fast. However to be honest, compared to what you pay I am not sure if it’s super worth it. I feel like you can find some other better noodles in Berlin with better price or same price better taste. But this place is also a solid option if you’re in the area which I’ll visit again.

We had the beef shank and pork noodles. Loved the different broths. Both of us liked the shank broth more, as it had couple more aromatics in it, but the black vinegar in the pork noodles added also quite a nice note to it. Shank was very tender, falling apart and the pork was nicely minced as well. One thing I really liked about the pork dish was that they haven’t used that cheap metro minced pork that has a really weird flavour. Seems to be minced in-house. Noodles were very chewy, really love the bite to them and also not too thicc and not too thin. We sort of understand that people in Berlin have a low spice tolerance, but when you have extra spicy on the menu, it should actually be very spicy. Guess it’s more preference and tolerance. Overall, great food.

Nice place. Good noodles, maybe a bit overrated due to the current hype people have on this place, so my expectations were higher. In general very good, we loved the potatoes and tofu in the starters. Ordered pork noodles, as mentioned good.

Good whole grain noodles with free range meat and delicious! You might have to wait 10- 25 minutes to get a table though. Price wise it’s pricey but I’d say it’s worth it! I ordered the beef noodles which costed me 16.5 euros

Delicious chewy noodles but way too loud inside! The acoustic is just very bad and it makes the experience less enjoyable.

Overhyped. The noodles are decent, but nothing out of the ordinary. You can get these at any corner in China for a fraction of the price. 16.5 € for a simple bowl of beef noodles is a hefty price to ask. Especially when you leave still half hungry. Service was slow as well, took 45 mins until we got our food while there were approx. 30 customers, place was not packed. There are better alternatives where you get more bang for your buck.

I got the vegan noodles and they were very delicious. You can choose between three spicy levels, medium, spicy and extra spicy. We choose the spicy one which were spicy enough for me but I do eat spicy food regularly. If you don't eat spicy often, better choose the medium ones. Besides that the service was quick and attentive. 10/10 would highly recommend.

Our night they served pop-up Mexican food, Taste was oké but nothing special and very small portion sizes. Asking €4 for 4 extra tacos is a bit of a rip off. €28 in total for a small stew, ice cream (+ non alcohol soda). Both can be made in bulk and don’t require difficult cooking. Very basic interior and therefore not cozy as well, so overall you pay a premium price for a take-away experience.

Yelp
This place is overhyped by social media and they have done a great job in marketing given how mediocre they are in their taste and interior design. The food looks amazing on picture for sure but the taste was mediocre. I am giving this rating as someone with a chinese background who enjoys Chinese food at home, in China and the US. If you've never had chongqing spicey noodles. Sure give it a try, but expect a oily spicy and sour chunk of noodles that was not super satisfying. I guess this is a place for "white" people with modified version of what you get back in chingqing. If you can't eat spicey or don't like it greasy, you better avoid this place. 11-14€ per bowl didn't seem cheap to me given the fact that you only get a bowl full of noodles a bit of meat or tofu, rest soaked in spicey oil.

If you like the atmosphere of subway train stations - go there! If you like a little bit of comfort when having your dinner - avoid this place. And forget to write any emails to the restaurant management, you will get no answer at all.
