Chupito – Vancouver - a MICHELIN Guide Restaurant

"Chupito will be closing for the winter season.Peek-a-boo...where are you, Chupito? You'll need to walk to the alley located behind La Taqueria to find this hidden gem. The beach may be missing at this fully covered outdoor taqueria where pebbles crunch underfoot and a shipping container subs in for a bar, but the flavors transport guests to Mexico just the same.Come for a cocktail and the aguachile, but stay for the other winning dishes like a red pozole bobbing with carnitas and plump hominy. Carne en sugo, or flank steak with tomatillo and jalapeño pepper folded with braised beans and bacon, will have you scooping up every last bite. Order a postre even if you're full—you'll want to linger no matter the time of year." - Michelin Inspector

Hands down the best Mexican food I’ve had in Vancouver. The ceviche is absolutely amazing - I could eat it all day. Every dish we tried was fresh, flavourful, and beautifully presented. The staff are incredibly warm and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. The only downside for me was the music inside, just a bit too loud for my taste. But if you’re in the mood for a lively vibe and fantastic food, this place is a gem.

Read about this place online. A lot of hype but must say well deserved. All the food choices we had were excellent. Even the grasshoppers. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to our friends. Just remember that it is a little pricey. 100$pp

Honest review based on my visit: Space: The design of the place was attractive and matched the theme well. However, it’s hard to find at first glance, and its location on the map appears incomplete, which makes it difficult to get there. Food: The menu is quite limited, and the portions are very small. The flavor is good, but nothing exceptional. Honestly, we expected more from a restaurant that received Michelin recognition in 2024. Service: At first, we were seated quickly, which was a positive start. However, the first server who attended to us showed little interest in providing good service. He was slow to respond to our requests and did so with a poor attitude. Thankfully, a different server later took over and was very kind. I wish the whole staff operated at his level of professionalism. Inappropriate behavior: This was the most uncomfortable part. I went with my girlfriend and two friends, and the bartender (Mixology) kept staring at our table persistently. He even came over without any reason, which felt invasive and out of place. This kind of behavior crosses boundaries and creates a negative experience. Staff should stay focused on their responsibilities and respect customers’ space.

Amazing food—from the fresh oysters to the torre de mariscos, pulpo zarandeado, pescadillas, and cocktails, this place hits the spot. Portions lean on the smaller side, but everything tasted great. Now, the not-so-great: the music was weird, not the kind you want for dining, also loud and honestly killed the vibe, cocktails were on the sweet side (didn’t make me want a second), and the deck could really use some love—I could literally feel the servers stepping on my table. Space is also way too tight.

Google
service was great. super friendly staff. the vibe was nice, but didnt match the price tag in my opinion. food was excellent. their corn tortillas are amazing. whether they were baked into chips/tostados, soft for tacos, or fried. sooooo good. the ahi tuna tartare was super flavourful. ceviche was refreshing and super tasty. the octopus zarandeado was so tender and flavourful! definitely the best dish. the elote was great, but not particularly elevated. the birria tacos were lacking and a bit dry. it was fine with all the sauce, but definitely not up to par with everything else. the cocktails we got were also fantastic. highly recommend the puertecuto and zipolite!

This was my first time here, and it came highly recommended. Although I couldn't make a reservation online for 2 guests (for some reason, they only accept reservations for 4 guests and up), I came to the place and was able to be seated right away. It is located in an alley and looks like a food truck with seats and umbrellas, but that is what gives the place a unique ambiance. Being downtown yet feeling totally disconnected from everything is part of its charm. The service was impeccable, and all the dishes and cocktails I tried were incredible. While it is on the pricier side, this is Vancouver, and honestly, I have paid more for food around town that doesn't even come close to the freshness, originality, and flavor of this place. Without a doubt, I totally recommend this place, and I will definitely be coming back for more.

You said: Please add more words to this: Overall a very good restaurant. Location was very interesting, as it was off a back alley. Once you walk down the alley you can hear the music and see a sweet, quiet outdoor patio space that reminds you of a restaurant in someone's front yard. Drinks were all amazing. Every one had its own unique twist and flavor, especially the Zipolite. Food was all as expected. Massive amounts of flavour in some, and others very simple and tired and true. Tuna tostada, tacos and the tres leches were all very good, and were all modern takes on some classics. Service was great. Waitor was very helpful in recommending items, patient and made sure everything came fast. ChatGPT said: ChatGPT Overall, this is a very good restaurant with a unique charm. The location is intriguing, tucked away in a back alley that creates a sense of discovery. As you make your way down the alley, you are greeted by the sound of lively music and a quaint, serene outdoor patio that feels like an inviting extension of someone's home. The food lived up to expectations, offering a delightful contrast between dishes bursting with robust flavors and others that were simple yet satisfying. Yelp
Seasonal restaurant hidden in the alley behind La Taqueria with access through Hamilton St. If you order the Aguachile Tatemado and a Michelada- close your eyes, and you'll be temporarily transported to Mexico. Limited seating, highly recommend making a reso!

Yelp
Tucked behind an alley - it is a super cute and fun place to grab drinks! If you are a fan of cocktails, be sure to stop by all of the drinks were okay, nothing amazing - but love the vibes!!! Be sure to pick up the scallop ceviche dish as that was a solid 4/5 stars and the highlight of the night!

Yelp
Honestly ! For all the hype .. I thought the food was okay .. Location : it is back of the la Pinche taqueria shop The entrance of the alley faces the park We tried the seafood paella( $14) tuna Tartare and churros For drinks we got the La Ticla and Guanajuato ( $15 each) They don't take reservations, so the wait for us was about 45 mins .. As an Instagram factor it is a cute set up As for the food meh ‍ The paella from paella guys was delicious but was not served hot .. Tuna tartare - was okay .. Churros was the biggest let down they were bit oily and not crispy .. Drinks - Skip Gunanajunto ( takes like vodka and coconut water ) La Ticla - delicious It was a good experience for the first time .. but would I go again no ..

Yelp
Super cute spot for locals and tourists who did there research. The menu is slightly hard to navigate but our server was very knowledgeable. A major variety of drinks and tacos were actually superb. Would definitely go back for vibes and tacos. Would have to say churros were on the slim and under coated side (not crusted in sugar/ cinnamon). Over all would go back.

Yelp
Its located on back of Tacofino. You can also enter from Tacofino. After a long 1.5 hours wait, we got ourselves a table. Cute outdoor bar, not sure what they are gonna do in the winter. Food & Drinks were great. My personal favorites were the Hokkaido scallops, Beef Taco & Margarita

Yelp
Finally tried this hidden gem in the back alley off Hamilton and Hastings. It's behind La Taquiera and reviewers were right, it can be easily missed. I felt a sense of normalcy even tho it was the first time I ate out after the vaccine passport came into effect and it was easy, show it along with your ID, and it's sense of ease. They had heating lamps as the temps cooled down quickly for mid-September but was still able to enjoy outdoor dining as we head into Fall. They provide you complimentary Chupito shots, Frozen margarita sampler, refreshing way to cleanse your palette. I started off with the Guanajuato cocktail which was absolutely delicious as it had me at mezcal w/ tequila, apricot liqueur, lime, ginger and tumeric. It's like summer encapsulated in a beautiful drink. We started of with their special shredded chicken tostada which tasted like chicken tinga, yum and was only $5! Then we ordered their tuna tartare which was so fresh of ahi tuna with the mix of ukoy salsa, cucumber and avocado. We also ordered the camaron y callo ahogados estilo sinalo which consists of pacific prawns, hakkaido scallops, salsa sinalo, cucumbers and avocado. So fresh and flavorful. The only dish I would not recommend was from the other seasonal pop up Paellaguys, the paella Valencia chicken which could have been served more hot and the portion was more a taster yet was only $13 so for the price, guess that's what you would expect but there was hardly any chicken or artichoke/veggies in it. All in all our meal was excellent and I paired it w/ Tantalus Chardonnay for the remainder of my meal as like I said trying to soak up what's left of the summer and dining outdoors while we still can before Raincouver arrives. Pics credit to my friend as I was enjoying my cocktail.

Yelp
After several staff noticed my arrival, stood at the doorway patiently, ignored for 15+ minutes waiting to merely put my name down. Never called back for a table.

Yelp
The food is fantastic. Great modern Mexican style. Large menu. Drinks were great too. Cool patio vibe with strong lights and heaters. Only minor downside was the occasional whiff of urine from the alley.

Yelp
Wonderful little place! last night we celebrated our girlfriends birthday and it was perfect. Our server was Tara who is the owner and she provided the best food and drinks! We told her to bring us her favourite things and it was all delicious! Drinks were awesome and strong! It was warm, welcoming and I'll definitely come back! 5 stars!
