Small but fantastic bar! They serve strictly drinks that are original to this country and made with American- or U.S. territories-produced liquors, tinctures, and mixes. The joint was completely empty when my wife & I arrived after 7PM on a Friday, & it was still empty when we left after two drinks. Not sure how it is this place doesn't get more business, but it is certainly worth the visit.

Funky place packed tight into a second story. Seating is lacking and uncomfortable but the cocktails and concept make up for it

Church & State is my favorite bar in DC. Atmosphere is everything, and this place has it in spades, with lots of reclaimed furniture and decorations from old churches. It's great for weeknight revelry with friends in the Confessional Booth, and I LOVE the Rooster ("Wrath" on their otherwise-rotating drink list of the Seven Deadly Sins). The bartender is great, but service does get slow when there are a lot of people because it's a special place with only one or two people working at a time. I would rather wait a little while for my drink and have that experience than go somewhere big and loud and full of vodka-cran drinkers drinking fast.

I love this place. When you walk in you feel like you've found some kind of secret club. The "confessional" rooms are a great cozy choice for a small group. The drinks are overpriced, but for the atmosphere, I'm willing to pay that premium. I've never been when it wasn't very quiet and low key.

I like this place. Been several times. It's a cool concept and the drinks are mostly good. Some suggestions though: 1. Make your Old Fashions a bit sweeter. (multiple ways to do this). 2. Make your Mint Juleps bigger or go lighter on the ice. 3. Really work on making drinks faster... it's so slow, and a little annoying when you've been waiting 10 mins for a drink and see the bartenders hanging out. 3. Someone needs to reign in the tall African American server who I think is the manager possibly. He can be rude and condescending sometimes. People order different ways. Sometimes couples will discuss what they want to order and one person will put in for both. Sometimes men will order first. Sometimes members don't care to drink but only want to hang out with their friends who are. Stop trying to be hip and trendy by imposing 1920's etiquette as law to the point of rude. It's not cute.

One of the best spots for classic 1920s-era cocktails in DC. Great staff, and the bartender is very creative with new specials. Unique atmosphere with pews for seating and stained glass window details - be sure to also check out the confession room, which is an awesome spot for a small group

The vibe and atmosphere here is incredible, especially if you manage to snag one of the back room confessionals with a group of 3-5. Just super intimate, not too loud, great drink names and interesting tastes.

Nice bartenders and atmosphere...not the greatest cocktails. It has great decor and a unique vibe, but the drinks need a bit of work! They do however have a great selection of ryes and friendly staff!
