Best Ice Cream and Frozen Desserts in Phoenix, Arizona | Eater Phoenix

"Churn features a tight selection of ice creams that rotate daily, serving them as sundaes, milkshakes, and floats. Churn’s float game in particular is next level, with four on the stacked roster. Try Kickin’ Cherry Cola, which combines vanilla ice cream, maraschino syrup, and cherry Cola; or an affogato-Coke-float hybrid uniting coffee and Mexican Coke. Ice cream flavor highlights include Vietnamese coffee, maple walnut, and chocolate stout. Fresh-baked cookies and homespun pastries also await." - Chris Malloy

Google
Churn is such a vibe, the servers at this spot are so sweet 😉 Popular flavors include the bold Vietnamese coffee, creamy peanut butter, nostalgic s’mores, and the sweet, summery strawberry shortcake. Kids (and kids at heart) will love browsing the classic toys and novelties inside. There’s patio seating perfect for relaxing with your cone, and it’s conveniently located right next door to the Windsor cocktail bar—making it an ideal stop before or after drinks. A fun, laid-back treat destination worth the visit!

Google
The place was incredibly cozy, and I really enjoyed its warm and inviting vibe. The latte was smooth, creamy, and delicious. I decided to mix it with some ice cream, and it turned out surprisingly good—a sweet, rich combination that made the visit even more enjoyable.

Google
Churn Ice Cream is a fun little spot in Phoenix. I love the vibe of this small shop. It’s got that old-school ice cream parlor feel that’s both nostalgic and unique. On top of the delicious ice cream, they have a bunch of cool items for sale like retro toys and vintage candies that really add to the charm of the place. I tried the peanut butter flavor during my visit and it was excellent, rich, creamy, and full of flavor. You can really taste the quality in their ice cream, and there are so many great flavors I still want to go back and try. The only small downside was the energy from the staff. It was midday on a Friday and there was just one person working who didn’t seem all that enthusiastic. It wasn’t a big deal, but it stood out a little given how fun and inviting the space itself is. That said, the ice cream speaks for itself. I’d definitely go back and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a cool spot to satisfy their sweet tooth.

Google
I swung by Churn one night in desperate need of a pick-me-up—and let’s just say, it delivered big time. From the moment I walked in, I felt like I’d stepped into a modern-day twist on an old-fashioned soda fountain, minus the paper hats (but with way better lighting and air conditioning). The menu is a dream for indecisive dessert lovers: you can choose from their wildly tempting signature concoctions or go rogue and build your own ice cream masterpiece. Either way, there are no wrong choices—just cold, creamy joy in every bite. When the weather’s nice (read: anything under 100 degrees in Phoenix), the patio out back is the perfect spot to sit, savor, and pretend you’re in a rom-com montage. Whether you’re nursing a rough day or just chasing a sweet tooth, Churn is the kind of place that makes everything feel a little brighter—and a lot tastier.

Google
Soooooo good. Got a Vietnamese coffee ice cream and had then make it into an ice cream sandwich inside sinker doodle cookies! No regrets. We actually drove by it, as it's kinda hidden. And a tiny parking lot.

MEGHAN CUMA

Google
Fantastic ice cream spot in Phoenix! Butter pecan was creamy/icy, it was exactly what I was looking for. Staff were friendly and it was only $5 for a single scoop! Surprised I haven’t been back sooner. A bit of a limited selection but they have the favorites.

Jenna Adamson

Google
The Vietnamese coffee flavor ice cream is incredible! Really fun, unique flavors and big portions. We also enjoyed the nice shaded & misted patio seating area in the back.

Crystal Peralta

Google
Delicious flavors but a tad on the pricier side. The patio seating is directly adjacent to parking which feels heavily crowded - not ideal for a quiet date night. There is additional seating on the back patio however with minimal lighting.

Yelp
What's not to love Real Whipped cream Delicious ice cream flavors Great floats Love the nostalgic feel inside the shop Love that you can order from Windsor Excellent service Clean inside

Yelp
The last two times I came in the ice cream had ice crystals in it.. which makes the ice cream taste bad, (Madagascar, vanilla bean) This makes the ice cream taste bad Came in today to get the oatmeal cookie dough... (which is fantastic) and it was really soft/melting fast. I don't know if it's because of the big window right next to the ice cream or what. Come on Churn... I know you've can do better. I've been eating your ice cream for years. Fix the issues, please.

Yelp
My first time visiting Churn today. I ordered the Fat Alvis Sundae with Sweet Cream Ice Cream. This was such a delicious combo I wasted no time finishing this up. Excellent service from all the ladies, nothing but smiles and positivity. As soon as you walk in, it's a warm and delicious smell of sweats and cookies. This made me feel like a kid again, and the menu has so many options, I had a hard time picking. I recommend coming here for your next sweet treat. 10/10

Yelp
Such a great ice cream spot! They also have great hot fudge as well yum. We were able to have a few samples before ordering too!

Yelp
This small place is adorable and has seating outside in the back. It's I. Walking distance from quite a few restaurants, so perfect to grab an after dinner treat. Their homemade ice cream is delicious. I love the Vietnamese coffee flavor!!! Their vanilla is excellent too.

Yelp
This place was amazing! I'm already excited to go back and have some more icecream! I got a seasonal flavor, I believe it was the cookie icecream, on a cone. The line was a bit long, but I don't blame them, they had only two people working and who doesn't want icecream when it's hot in Arizona? They have a cute outdoor patio in the back. ( a bit limited)
google avatar

Amy D.

Yelp
friendly service and tasty ice cream! i got the goat cheese, pistachio, and honey ice cream. it was a really fun flavor that was creamy and well balanced. churn also has a lot of topping options, a lot of which are homemade. i tried the toffee syrup and bananas. yum!
google avatar

Yelp
It had been a minute since I have been to Churn and I definitely forgot how good they were! From the moment we walked in the service was topnotch. The gentlemen behind the counter was telling us all about the fan favorite flavors, his favorite and encouraged us to sample their many offerings. I tried the chai and the vietnamese coffee. They were both delicious and perfect for the fall. I opted for the espresso affogato with madagascar vanilla, because you just cannot go wrong with the classics. It hit the mark and even though it's just vanilla bean, it was so rich and creamy. They have a great line up of offerings, from sundaes, floats, shakes ice cream sandwiches, as well as baked goods and a whole selection of candy. It's really a cute shop. They share a space with Windsor, so the ice cream shop itself is not big, but does boast a large outdoor patio to enjoy your sweet treat. Overall, well worth a visit and can't wait to make my way through their ice cream list!

Yelp
We beat the heat with a healthy dose of ice cream. We had Vietnamese coffee and chai tea ice cream. It was so refreshing. We had a waffle cone which was really tasty. Bill came out to around $7.50. No seating inside, however, there is a patio with misters. However all tables were taken. Parking is shared with Windsor restaurant. There are only 2 restrooms shared with Windsor.

Yelp
Oh my! I can see why this place is so popular! This is a cute little ice cream shop -- and there was a line out the door after we arrived. We got there right on time last Friday night! The gal helping us recommended we try the caramel cashew flavor after my partner asked to sample the maple walnut. Both were super tasty and creamy although I preferred the caramel cashew! My daughter loved her strawberry ice cream as well. Great little spot for some ice cream after dinner out! Definitely try this place if you're in the area.
google avatar

Jaquay R.

Yelp
Walking in the door there is a delightfully sweet aroma that hits your nose and makes your mouth start to water. So colorful on the inside with all the fun, vibrant decor. This small ice cream shop has delicious ice cream with just the right amount of flavors to choose from. You can sample the flavors if needed. I sampled the maple walnut and butter pecan. Both left my tastebuds wanting more. I chose one scoop of the maple walnut. It was so good. If in the mood for other sweet treats, there are cookies, brownies, and other delicious pastries to choose from. Let's not talk about all the various candy and gum options. Drinks range from coffee to soda. Enjoy!

Chris J.

Yelp
Yummy - thats all i need to say - honestly even the whipped cream was yummy!! Next time i will get the strawberry shortcake
google avatar

Danielle R.

Yelp
We came here with another couple for a post dinner dessert. The flavors of the ice cream were cool and I had to try the grapefruit buttercream flavor (as a sample). The cookies also looked amazing so we got a chocolate crinkle and it was to die for, yum. The inside of the shop is darling and the employees were wonderful and treated us like valued customers. Kudos to their team for the wonderful experience and company values.
google avatar

Mark C.

Yelp
Note that the owner of this establishment also owns the Windsor next door. This is a neat ice cream shop that also sells sundaes, milkshakes, floats, pastries, cookies, and drinks. As with all ice cream/frozen yogurt places, it is way cheaper to buy a take home quart/pint than it is to buy scoops. I like how you can customize what ice cream you want in your pint so I got a pint with peanut butter and double chocolate ice cream which cost $18.46. Ice cream was relatively good but way too expensive. You can buy ice cream at other ice cream shops for cheaper and similar quality.

Yelp
I was impressed with Churn! I ordered a scoop of cherry pie and red velvet, both seasonal flavors. The cherry pie had a light, charming flavor, with cherry pieces adding a nice texture--though bits of pie crust would have taken it up a notch. The red velvet was the standout--normally not my favorite, but the savory cream cheese and mini chocolate chips took it to another level. The quality was great for the price--$6 for two scoops felt reasonable. Service was friendly, and the ambiance was enjoyable, especially the cozy back patio. I'll definitely be back to try the Vietnamese coffee and see what seasonal flavors they come up with next!

Yelp
Being in AZ in the dead of summer, I wanted a cool treat, and found this ice cream spot via a search on Yelp. The front of house is small, no tables or chairs; not sure if the small hallway led back to seating or just a restroom, so plan accordingly. I got in the swerving line - the space was pretty full of patrons, a good sign. A short concise nine flavors of ice cream, which changes very frequently, apparently. I was torn between their Grapefruit Buttermilk and Peanut Butter flavors, so ended up getting two single-scoops of each in separate to-go bowls. I can 100% confidently say WOW! Both were fluffin fantastic! The PB was so creamy and full of a genuine savory peanut butter flavor not just bland sugar. I ate the Grapefruit Buttermilk scoop a few days later, and double wow! A slight tart paired perfectly with the smooth subtle sweetness. I'm so glad I tried this place, definitely keeping it in my bookmarks for return visits!
google avatar

Daniel K.

Yelp
Got the butter pecan and Vietnamese coffee. The butter pecan was money! Light and airy with a rich nutty finish. I could eat that one all day. Vietnamese coffee tasted a bit more like coffee than Vietnamese coffee but I as tasty in its own right! No seating except for outside but you can hop across the street to Paris Baguette and pick up some tasty bread as well. Friend told me this area was owned by the Postino group and located right next to their HQ so def wanna stop by their collective of Joyride, Windsor, Federal Pizza sometime.
google avatar

Elaine R.

Yelp
There's something really nostalgic about Churn. It gives that corner candy store feel. When I come here, it's definitely a treat. I really like their ice cream, I've tried cookies and mint as well as the vanilla. I believe the ice cream is "homemade" and it's definitely a very great refreshing taste.
google avatar

Heidi A.

Yelp
As we were waiting on a table at Windsor, we decided to go ahead and get our dessert first at Churn! Yummmm! I loved my strawberry and sweet cream ice cream. Very clean and fun atmosphere. Surprisingly, the portion sizes were pretty big!
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
Whoo Alex! Went for a early afternoon ice cream date. Alex was great at what he did and really took our experience to the next level. We go pretty often but he did a stellar job explaining the seasonal flavors and getting us matched with the right flavors for our day. Butter Pecan-Vietnamese Coffee Cookies & Mint-Strawberry Well done Alex, you really made our day! Thank you!
google avatar

Shannon F.

Yelp
Cute ice cream shop with fun combinations. We ordered a Fat Elvis sundae, S'mores sundae, cherry cola float and their version of a mixer. The sundaes have great combinations, the hot fudge is phenomenal, and the marshmallow was divine. For the price though, they were a bit small. I understand the cost of high quality ingredients and paying a good wage to your employees, so it was worth the price, in my eyes. The coffee flavor got lost in the chocolate, which had a rich chocolate flavor. The sweet cream was good and allowed the mix in flavors to shine. Overall, a good sweet treat spot to check out.

Yelp
Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for a cool down. It gives me 70s vibes, which is neat and cute. Theres a bar and grill when you walk to the back of the icecream shop. The coconut sorbet is vegan and very creamy and rich. Usually I dont like coconut flavors but this one hit
google avatar

Megan V.

Yelp
Best butter pecan ice cream you'll ever eat!! Great staff and this is such a fun place with all kinds of old school candy available to purchase! Their scoops are VERY generous. So much flavor no matter what ice cream you choose! A must try after dinner at any of the fabulous Upwards Projects restaurants around it like Windsor and Federal Pizza!
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
I was in the area and was looking for an ice cream shop to have a sundae. Found this cute small parlor with amazing delicious creamy ice cream. They also bake in house these huge moist cookies. I bought one of each flavor and was really good. The place was nostalgic, reminded me of an ice cream shop from I was a little girl. Also had all these candies from back when I was small. I definitely will revisit when I'm in the area. They also play music and have a great big outside patio.

Yelp
I took my granddaughter to Churn today on March 3 for her birthday with three of her girlfriends. Lyndzey was the girl behind the counter and she was awesome. She was friendly, helpful and kind.
google avatar

Beatrice B.

Yelp
Our experience was marginal. The girl behind the counter had a lot going on between torching, a marshmallow dessert, and delivering three desserts, elsewhere, and about six of the flavors of ice cream, we're sitting on the counter behind her that needed to be put into the display that had empty pans of ice cream. And then there was another girl who seemed as if she was the barista for the other portion of the operation. We weren't greeted and there was no friendly vibe which would've been nice especially after waiting for about five minutes for her to get her other tasks done. We loved coming to Churn during Covid. The customer service was always great as was the product. However today the cookies seemed a bit stale for our ice cream sandwiches. However, the ice cream was still great quality. We make the trip from the East Valley but after today's experience, we likely wouldn't make the drive for Churn again. Just a bit disappointed that the customer service and quality weren't there.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best ice creams I have ever had. Growing up I worked at an ice cream shop one summer and I have had tons of ice cream in many different states and supermarket pints and consider myself an ice cream connoisseur and this ice cream was top notch. The staff was so nice, I sampled unlimited flavors and they were all so good that it was a tough decision which flavor to get so I got 3! Never in my life have I ordered so much and so many different flavors at once. I had to hold back from getting a 4th. I had Peanut Butter, Cookies and Mint, Banana and held back from getting the Coffee flavor too. These flavors were superior. Single scoop $5 and each additional flavor is $1 more. Most gelato and ice cream shops these days charge $6.50 - 7ish for one scoop not as big as here. The homemade ice cream is very flavorful and creamy and the flavor lasts unlike brands that the more you eat the flavor goes away. The prices are also very good and the scoops are generous. They also sell home made cookies and brownies and nostalgic candies and other cute items. I wish I lived closer so I could come here more often. Churn is located next to 4 sister restaurants, Windsor, Joyride, Federal Pizza, Postino so if you are looking for a place to ear prior this is a great spot.

Yelp
I know... people love this place. So dare I say, I don't? I'll start with saying the shop is be very cute. But I think it's okay for a quick ice cream fix but I've been a few times now and every time I feel pretty much the same-- the ice cream is just too sweet for me palette. I like the strawberry shortcake, however the strawberry ice cream tastes semi artificial to me, the shortcake is a little dense and not the typical biscuit like, and sort of has the biscotti shape. It's good, it's shareable. But nonetheless, it's not something I'd go out of my way for. I have also tried the tiramisu, vanilla, butter pecan from my friends flavors. The cookies I actually just didn't like-- I've only had the snickerdoodle. The marshmallow torched topping though- delicious. I like that it's more of a cream rather than the typical solid marshmallow. Overall, I just think it's ok... and I'll typically go if I'm in the area and one of my friends suggests it.
google avatar

Amanda P.

Yelp
It was our first time and we were greeted and explained everything on the menu perfectly, thank you for being so helpful and the ice cream is delicious!
google avatar

Lindsey G.

Yelp
I've been wanting to stop in Churn for so long and I finally made it!! The line is typically out the door so it has always intrigued me. We were having dinner across the street and came in for dessert after. It's a small shop so I understand now why the line looks so intense outside! Very cute inside and just a few tables inside and out to sit and eat. I ordered an ice cream sandwich and you get your choice of two cookies and choice of ice cream. I got a peanut butter cookie, chocolate cookie, and pumpkin ice cream. Everything was delicious and the sandwich was huge! My husband got a strawberry shortcake sundae. He really enjoyed his and the small bite I got was really good! The staff were so friendly and you can sample the ice cream they have available. These change seasonally so I have a good excuse to come back soon and see what's new. So happy I finally came in and we will be back!
google avatar

Sandra S.

Yelp
Not bad but nothing special. Would definitely not go out of my way for the ice cream here. The flavors options were pretty average. Only outdoor seating.
google avatar

Chantel B.

Yelp
Cute spot my family came across on our trip to Phoenix. It smells amazing - unfortunately I do not eat ice cream lol . Samples are offered as soon as you get to the counter. I thought the prices were fair for the portions. I didn't not check the prices of the candy - nostalgic candies fill the wall in front of the counter. There is a small seating area outside with cups for cold water.
google avatar

Jenny K.

Yelp
I love ice cream and after visiting this place, churn has got my heart! It's a cute little ice cream, candy shop and it is connected to a restaurant next door. I got the double chocolate ice cream with chocolate crinkle cookie and omg.. It was absolutely delicious! At first when I looked at my cup, I was slightly regretful for getting so much chocolate but after my first bite... I felt like a little kid inside and was so happy with my choice! The chocolate ice cream was not overwhelmingly sweet and the cookie was nice and soft! The downside was that the price was a bit high... $5 a scoop and $1 for HALF a cookie. service was a bit slow considering that they had 4 workers working.
google avatar

Tim G.

Yelp
This place is little ice cream shop that also sells cookies and coffee. They have a few tables in the back and front of the shop to sit at. Their ice cream is DELICIOUS. My wife and I noticed the texture was smooth and creamy...noticeable compared to other ice cream places. The workers were also pretty friendly. Definite recommend if you like ice-cream!
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
Got the strawberry kids scoop and it was the perfect size to satisfy my ice cream craving! Nice and fluffy, good service, wish the flavor was slightly stronger. Otherwise pretty good!
google avatar

Miranda M.

Yelp
I really want to like Churn, but it continues to miss the mark for me. The shop is quite small and far too busy for the square footage. They offer ornate sundae and milkshake options which take a considerable amount of time to put together - too long for a small, always busy spot like Churn. I generally just order a scoop on a waffle cone so can't speak to the caliber of their fancy sundaes. The ice cream is good quality and the shop itself is cute, but it's not an amazing scoop worth a 15 minute wait. If you're a patient person and don't mind standing in line for 15 minutes for an ice cream cone, you'll enjoy a good dessert here. If you want a fancy sundae, check this place out. If you're impatient like me, and just looking for a scoop of ice cream without any frills, I recommend you find another spot.
google avatar

Daniel G.

Yelp
We came here after dinner for a quick treat. Parking was a bit hard to find and we had to park in the nearby large open lot. Staff was friendly but couldn't show us how big their milkshakes were. We ended up getting the apple pie kid scoop and mint cookie kids scoop. The ice cream was okay but not as good as expected. There is also no indoor seating, only outside in the heat on the back patio. The bathrooms also share with the nearby restaurant and bar, and was a long line.
google avatar

Shelby S.

Yelp
Amazing ice cream! If you're getting dinner at Windsor or nearby Churn and craving a sweet treat, stop by! They have several flavors, some rotating, toppings, milkshakes, and curated sundaes. The line was pretty long on a weeknight.. maybe 25 minutes? But worth the wait. There aren't seats inside, so keep this in mind if it's hot or cold outside:)
google avatar

Zach S.

Yelp
This place was definitely a let down. Hard ice cream that lacked flavor. I am not sure why the reviews are so good. It definitely doesn't live up to it.
google avatar

Natalie J.

Yelp
I'm not a huge chocolate ice cream person, but once I tried the chocolate madness that has brownie chunks I totally had to get this scoop. We hit up Postinos for dinner and when my buddy said there was an ice cream shop across the street we decided to walk over. This shop is small, but the menu is mighty. We ate our scoops of ice cream near the fire at Windsor to stay warm. I'm going to warn you those embers off that fire pit are intense my buddies hair cut on fire . Luckily I caught it in time so there was just a slight singe and I was able to pat the fire out. Luckily she won't need to chop off her beautiful locks. I quickly covered my hair with my hoodie. Let's focus on the important part of the night. The ice cream! My wife enjoyed her s'more sundae and I'm not a huge marshmallow fan, but this was also tasty. If you're up for adventure stop in to Churn and be careful not to light your hair on fire! I'll for sure be back!
google avatar

Yesenia V.

Yelp
Really cute quaint ice cream shop. The service was great and all baked goods were all made fresh daily. Tried both the s'mores (in house made marshmallow fluff) and strawberry shortcake sundaes. Both were really delicious and filling.
google avatar

Gretel Y.

Yelp
Churn it up! Hubs and I stopped by on a scorching hot summer day after grabbing a bite to eat at Windsor. We could have ordered from Windsor, but we wanted to get the full experience and visit the store. To our surprise, there was barely a line. I sampled a few flavors before landing on the "oh my affogato," $8.50. It has coffee and vanilla ice cream, double espresso, and Mexican Coke. I asked for the Coke on the side so I could pour it myself. Hubs went with a single scoop of tangerine buttermilk, $5. We then took our treats to the back of the shop to enjoy under their shaded seating. The oh my affogato was excellent. Coffee ice cream + double espresso is a coffee lover's (ahem, moi) dream. The Mexican Coke was a fun addition, but honestly, I felt like it didn't need it. I only used about a fourth of the bottle to taste. Hubs also enjoyed his tangerine buttermilk. It was a unique and refreshing flavor. Perfect for summer.

Yelp
So cute! Love the service and the vibe of the place, and delicious ice cream too!! The flavors are creative and also the basic ones but overall really really good
google avatar

Kyle C.

Yelp
A great spot for a sweet treat in "North" Central PHX. You can often find a spot in the lot next door, or across the street (there is a conveniently located crosswalk), and there will often be a 5-15 minute line to order if you come after dinner! Great outdoor seating behind the shop with misters. Flavors a rich and creamy!
google avatar

Jacqueline M.

Yelp
My favorite ice cream in Phoenix. Love the vibe of vintage old timey /hipster. Baked goods are amazing and has so many nostalgic candy options and little toys.
google avatar

Mishel D.

Yelp
Fun nostalgic ice cream spot! Their flavors are delicious, I love the Vietnamese coffee flavor. Their sundae combinations are great too. You can't go wrong with a visit here!
google avatar

Sid S.

Yelp
Churn scoops don't miss. My favorite flavors are the Vietnamese coffee and whatever flavors are rotating. This time it was the pistachio and pumpkin pie, both of which I give a 10/10! I'm from WI, I've had a lot of ice cream in my day. When I want a good scoop of ice cream I'll go to Churn 8 times outta 10. The cones and waffle cones are standard and I don't really care for the cookies or anything else. What makes this place fun is the outdoor seating, the samples of course, and all the fun candy which makes this a great place to bring a date or family. Lines can get pretty long, even at 10PM so don't be shocked. But if you do run into this and you're still wanting ice cream, dairy queen is more or less across the street so you might as well make the trip either way.
google avatar

Christa M.

Yelp
This place is really cute and it is a perfect spot for when you are craving some delicious ice cream. The butter pecan is my favorite and it never lets me downnnn. It is rich, very creamy, flavorful, and always tastes heavenly sent. It's one of the best butter pecan tasting ice cream I have had. The inside is pretty small, there are unfortunately no tables, and usually the line is out the door. Service is good though and props to the employees because they seem to always have a rush!
google avatar

Cindy T.

Yelp
A cute little spot to take a date. Churn can get really busy later in the day- towards dinner time. It's worth the wait in line I'd say. The peeps here are super sweet and can keep the line moving so you won't be waiting as long. Other then their sweet treats complementing our hot summer, they have some candies & small little toys you probably haven't seen since childhood! I think it's pretty rad & worth taking a look at.
