The 27 Best Things to Do in Mexico City

"Early evening is churro time in Mexico City—families, couples, and friends all go out for a taste of sweet fried dough and chocolate. You'll often find lines snaking around the block outside this beloved churrería (churro shop). There are shops in Roma, Centro Historico, Condesa, Polanco, and Cuauhtémoc. Most have spiffy interiors with blue and white tile, bright lighting, and long communal tables. Watch the cooks dip, fry, and sugar-coat your long, spindly churro, which is paired with hot chocolate in a flavor of your choosing. With your order of churros (just 20 pesos), you get a cup of hot chocolate for dipping and sipping. There are a number of flavors to choose from: Spanish (the traditional approach, sweet and thick), Mexican (a lighter version), French (has a touch of vanilla), special (semi-sweet chocolate with cinnamon), light (light milk and no sugar), Swiss chocolate (with whipped cream), and choco mocha." - Scarlett Lindeman

Churrería El Moro Review - Roma - Mexico City - The Infatuation

"There’s always a line at Churreria El Moro in Roma Norte, whether you show up first thing in the morning, around lunchtime, or right after dinner. And for good reason—this local chain (with 12 locations around the city) makes some of the best churros in existence. You can get a four-pack fresh out of the fryer and covered in cinnamon sugar with a side of hot chocolate dip for around $5. If you need to cool down after walking around all day, take yourself and a consuelo—El Moro’s churro ice cream sandwich—to nearby Plaza Rio de Janeiro for some shade." - Max Bonem

These desserts are awesome. I'll be dreaming about this place for years. I strongly recommend the consuleitos (ice cream sandwiches made with churros). The service was speedy, so our churros were still warm when they were served to us. The textures and flavors were awesome. And the price was quite reasonable.

El Moro Churros - A Must-Visit Spot in Mexico City While exploring Mexico City, El Moro Churros is a must-visit destination for anyone craving a classic treat. With several locations across the city, we headed to the nearest one from our hotel. Despite the long line, the service was impressively quick, a testament to their efficiency and popularity. The menu offers a delightful variety of churros in different quantities, paired with chocolate drinks, dips, and even ice cream. They also serve sandwiches and soft drinks for those seeking something savory. The churros were crisp and fresh, perfectly fried to golden perfection. The chocolate drink, while distinct from the smoother, less-sweet versions we’ve had in Spain, was still enjoyable with its slightly coarse texture, cinnamon flavor, and heightened sweetness. The prices are very reasonable, making it easy to indulge. For only 200 pesos, we got four churros, a chocolate drink, and a dip—a great deal considering the quality and portion size. Judging by the steady crowd, it’s clear this is a beloved local favorite. If you’re visiting Mexico City, make sure to stop by El Moro for a sweet and satisfying experience!

Google
The best churros we’ve had in Mexico City. Super fresh and always tasty, the best with the cinnamon sugar. There’s a nice seating area outside of this location as well, so you can enjoy and watch the world go by. Check out our channel for a full review of our experience: Hungry Two Travel.

Google
After going here we decided that churros>doughnuts! These were hot, sweet, delicious with or without a dip, and were addicting!! They were light, crispy, and airy. The shop was clean and bright. The line was quick and you could watch them make the churros.

Anton S.

Google
Nice churro cafe. Not the best churros I had in CDMX though - a bit too much sugar/cinnamon, making it very difficult to dip but good enough for a quick churro to go!

Emily Sia

Google
When in CDMX, try churros. Always fresh because of the fast turnaround for customers. Ordered some for takeaway and got them is 5 - 7 minutes wait time. Pair with hot chocolate or dip.

Google
TLDR Order churros here but nothing else. Don’t order coffee here. I ordered an Americano here one morning. The staff fiddled around with the espresso machine and didn’t get anywhere with it, so they went to where they store the churro sauces and ladelled some black liquid into my cup. It was lukewarm filter coffee. When I asked them whether it was hot water with espresso they said ‘yes’.

Google
Excellent churro store. The churros were amazing -- extra crunchy, but we wish the chocolate sauce wasn't served cold. friendly service as well.

Yelp
We had seen this place all over Instagram, so we decided to try it on our first night, and it did not disappoint. Service was very friendly! The place is beautiful with the tiles on the wall, and clean. The churros were perfectly crunchy, with the right amount of sweetness from the sugar and cinnamon coating. The chocolate dip was amazing. It had a rich, velvety texture. We also tried the Mexican chocolate, and it was so good! A perfect start to our trip!

Yelp
I had high expectations for this place but left feeling a bit underwhelmed. I ordered the churros and hot chocolate (light and sweet), and while there were some good elements, it wasn't quite what I was hoping for. Churros - Prettt oily and coated in a thick layer of sugar--so much so that I had to flick some off to make them more enjoyable. Without all the excess sugar, they tasted much better, but I still couldn't get past the lingering greasy aftertaste. The texture was nice, though, and even after dipping them into the hot chocolate, they stayed crispy, which I appreciated. Hot Chocolate - The best part of the experience. It wasn't overly sweet, which balanced the churros well, and it had a nice, smooth consistency. If I were to come back, it would probably be just for the hot chocolate. Overall, not a bad experience, but not great either. The churros weren't as enjoyable as I had hoped, and for the price, I think I'd rather try another spot next time.

Yelp
Very popular and recommended, this place had all of the aesthetic appeal. The white and blue tiling throughout is cute and very picturesque. Though it was busy, the line moved quickly and seating was plentiful. We got four churros and a chocolate dipping sauce. While it was great value, the churros fell short for me. They were entirely too crispy and too oily, no doughy inside or fluffy relief. The balance of sugar and cinnamon was lacking and I found them to be too sweet, especially with the rich chocolate sauce. I"m glad we went to experience this place, but I think you can find better churros in Mexico City.

Yelp
Best churros in CDMX! This place is so worth the hype, there's a reason they have so many locations around the city. You gotta go with the classic chocolate dip: it's rich and balances perfectly with the sugar and warmth of the churro. The wait was definitely pretty long, so don't go if you're looking for a quick sweet treat. But otherwise, this place is definitely worth a visit. It's such a bright, fun vibe and a great way to spend time with friends with a true mexican churreria experience!

Armen Y.

Yelp
Loved the churros here. I got a churro and chocolate milkshake for my late night treat. Enjoyed a lot. They have plenty of tables and chair to sit and enjoy the churro with the drink.
google avatar

Roma B.

Yelp
Cute gelato shop! Got the three churro ice cream sandwiches in vanilla, chocolate, and melon flavors. The churros were amazing and the ice cream was just right, loved the melon flavor!

Yelp
Kept hearing amazing things about this place so I had to try it out when in CDMX. Went here on our first night for a late dessert after dinner. I tried their packet of four churros and a strawberry milkshake. I opted to adding whipped cream and marshmallows. It was soo good! The churros were also amazing! We decided to go back before leaving. I got four churros and Mexican hot chocolate this time. I also got their cajeta to dip my churros in. I was not a huge fan of the hot chocolate, I wish it was a bit sweeter. The cajeta was amazing! It was a bit difficult to dip the churros in because it was so thick, but delicious nonetheless! The actual place is a bit small and can be crowded if busy. Both times, local musicians showed up, one doing a freestyle roast. Wish I would've tried their churro ice cream sandwich. I definitely recommend this place!
google avatar

Sunu S.

Yelp
For me it was over hyped. The churro we received wasn't warm and the person at the counter was making fun of my appearance.
google avatar

Emiliano N.

Yelp
I fell in love with this place the moment I laid eyes on it. The churros are always freshly made, and if they're not, they remake them for you. The chocolate mexicano was delicious on its own, but I couldn't have anticipated how well it would complement the churros. Overall, it wasn't as sweet as I expected, as the chocolate had a bitterness reminiscent of dark chocolate.
google avatar

Doreen T.

Yelp
The churros are great but so are the chocolate drinks and coffee! The churros are made fresh, crunchy and not oily at all. We shared 4 churros with cinnamon sugar and every bite was delicious. We also shared an order of the consuelito, a mini ice-cream sandwich with coiled churros on each end. This got quite messy because the hot fresh churros were melting the ice cream. So this is best to enjoy as a whole bite into your mouth. This was a great afternoon dessert break and I wish we had more time for another visit. I did noticed in general in CDMX the dipping sauce lechera/condensed milk they water it down so it gets very drippy.
google avatar

Gigi G.

Yelp
Churrería El Moro was phenomenal! If you have a sweet tooth, you'll enjoy this place. They had freshly made churros and other desserts for a very cheap price! Everything is made to order and they can also make accommodations if you don't want too much sugar. They also had many dipping options. The indoor upstairs seating area was beautiful. Everything was decorated for Día de los Muertos and there's a view of the town. The staff were also so warm and welcoming. The young man in front helped me feel better about my Spanish and greeted me with a smile. Thank you!
google avatar

Amy D.

Yelp
You cannot come to Ciudad de Mx without having the churros and a cup of coffee. They have several establishments across the city, all the same. We came here for a late snack after dinner. No regrets! Not only are these the best tasting churros that I've ever had, they are also the longest churros I've ever had! It has the perfect crunch on the outside while still soft on the inside. With each bite, you get the perfect balance of sugar and cinnamon. They always have a high volume of customers. So be patient, and wait. You have to stand in line for a while, place your order. Seating is limited. So, while you stand in line, have someone wait around for an available table or simply take your delicious treat home.
google avatar

Deborah L.

Yelp
My new obsession in Mexico City! You can watch the churros being made and decorated from scratch. My absolute dream dessert was the consuelo- ice cream sandwiched by churros shaped as a circle. Amazing! The morritos was a perfect shareable bowl- bite sized churros that you can dip in your ice cream, coffee, hot chocolate, or enjoy by itself. If you ever miss a chance to visit, there is a location at the CDMX airport in terminal 1. Last stop to enjoy Mexican dessert !
google avatar

Katherine V.

Yelp
We loved this place! The service was amazing and they were so friendly with my kids. The churros were freshly made and so delicious. We also enjoyed the coffee. Definitely a place to visit while in Mexico, it's so cute, authentic and you just want to sit for hours to enjoy the most delicious churros!
google avatar

Reynaldo P.

Yelp
Tried this place on my vacation to Mexico and it's definitely hyped up. Yes it's good, but I've seen comments that obsess over them and say they're the best churros ever. Definitely not the best churros I've ever had, but they're good because they're fresh. Wish they were stuffed instead of the dip cup, but overall, they satisfy any churro craving. I got a pack of 4 with a lechera dip cup. I'd say 4 is too many for one person, me and my partner shared and even 2 felt like enough. I'd get one big one for one person unless you are a super sweet tooth.
google avatar

Adrian B.

Yelp
For the post Navidad celebration, I ordered a 12 pack of churros and 3 Mexican hot chocolate drinks for three people. Their entire process was pure awesomeness, from the system that they have in place to cook the churros to their final preparation. It literally took them less than two minutes to prepare the churros, and complete the hot chocolate drinks. Both the churros and the hot cholesterol included tons of cinnamon. This place appeared to more of a small cafe style setup which seemed nice. I've tried churros from one of their other stores and they did not disappoint, and I'm sure that these churros will have the same greatness.
google avatar

Bill D.

Yelp
We came here on a recommendation, and are glad we did. The Consuelos (think churro ice cream sandwich) were wonderful. Churros were still hot and perfectly crispy. We took our upstairs where there are a number of tables and watched people on the quiet pedestrian mall out front. My partner had a Mexican hot chocolate that she really enjoyed, too. The staff was friendly and got our handmade order out to us quickly. This is a chain, but they keep to their long traditions. Definely worth a stop.
google avatar

David T.

Yelp
This place definitely hits my churro craving. I came around in the afternoon and ordered one churro. Yes, one churro. I wasn't sure how good it would be but I was surprised. It's one of the best churros that I've had. It wasn't that expensive. I would say it's reasonably priced. The cashier was nice to help me figure out what to order and the vibes are really nice during the fall and cooler season. I would come back next time when I'm in CDMX.
google avatar

Almira F.

Yelp
Consistently good churros walking distance to the hotel I'm staying at . Friendly and fast service . I would have eaten there but the tables aren't as clean ( which I'm Sure has something to do with the patrons as well as the restaurant) .
google avatar

Joanna S.

Yelp
Modern churro shop for tourists and locals alike (mostly tourists). El Moro provides quality churros with two different coatings -- sugar or cinnamon sugar. You can also buy different flavor dips (condensed milk, chocolate, or cajeta) and milkshakes. The service is excellent. The counter staff work very hard to provide fast, quality service. There are also a few cafe tables and chairs for indoor dining. Since this cafe experiences a high traffic of people, it can get a little messy, so I would recommend getting your food to go.
google avatar

Steven K.

Yelp
The lines long but the wait is worth it - 4 churros for like 50 pesos. You get to your order and you ask what this flavor is and the man hands you a whole churro to taste. Call that great customer service! We also got the cafe de ollo (spice coffee) and it was surprising delicious to pair with the churros. If you walk a few blocks down, you can enjoy the centro while chewing on your hot churros!
google avatar

Katie L.

Yelp
Pictures don't do this place justice. Modern tourist spot to get your churro fix in. We split four churros with the two of us and we were stuffed to the brim. Honestly, you could be good with just one to split and the dipping sauce. You have 4 options of dipping sauces, and we chose the vanilla cream one. So good, but so sweet. Be prepared to make a mess and have sticky fingers, but that's part of the beauty of churros!
google avatar

farigol b.

Yelp
It was a clean place but didn't look like a French user. The churros were ok. Not the best. I like the condensed milk the best. We didn't like the milk shake.
google avatar

Ty C.

Yelp
We heard about this place from our tour guide. They have amazing churros with mexican chocolate sauce. We would return.
google avatar

Edwina D.

Yelp
Churreria El Moro, churr'all I've ever wanted. If you make your way to El Moro during your Mexico City trip, I recommend getting the churros rolled in cinnamon and pairing them with an Español hot chocolate, which is a thicker and perfect for dipping. We visited a few times and tried the Mexican hot chocolate, especial hot chocolate, Horchata milkshake, and cajeta dipping sauce as well (yes, my group was churro'd out by the end of our trip!). Overall, a must visit for those looking for a sweet treat from a local purveyor.

Iris G.

Yelp
Had the coconut latte - quite delicious! My churros were covered with canela & azucar, they were awesome, with sweetened condensed milk, 100% worth it!
google avatar

Alexis B.

Yelp
Visiting at least one location of Churreria El Moro was on my list for our first visit to Mexico City. Started by a Spanish immigrant to Mexico in 1933 as a churro stand in the Zocalo, it now has multiple locations in the city (its first location opened in 1935)! We stopped by this location for an afternoon snack. They offer churros (by piece or an order of 4), dips (chocolate, condensed milk, cajeta), hot chocolates (lots of varieties), milkshakes, coffees, ice cream/churro sandwiches, and some savory snacks, too! We ordered two churros with chocolate for dipping and a hot chocolate. The hot chocolate wasn't my favorite (a little bit grainy? and maybe a little watery somehow too?), but the churros were great - such a fun snack/dessert/treat - loved sitting outside and people watching while enjoying a yummy churro!
google avatar

Helen S.

Yelp
Legendary churro chain in Mexico City. Look for the telltale white subway tiling and throngs of people (somewhat socially distanced) and seek the enticing scent of deep fried cinnamony dough, and you'll know you're in for a treat. This shop is open-air and little more than a covered walkway with a window to order. Hand sanitizer was provided near the window, as were napkins. There's tables scattered around the sidewalk outside but those are frequently occupied and even if you find a table, there's no guarantee there will be chairs. Luckily this is on-the-move food unless you like getting fancy with your dips. Churros are, well, churros. Your goal should be to get some quantity of warm, crispy, cinnamon-y carb sticks and then sample a dipping sauce. Personally, I enjoyed the churros alone but the Malteadas (milkshakes) are good if your sweet tooth is insatiable. The Paquetes, essentially combo deals, are not that much more of a deal than getting things individually so you don't have to worry about missing out if you're torn between several menu items. While you wait, feel free to ogle at the employees toiling away over the hot oil backstage (through a window) as they make these delicious fried munchies.
google avatar

Jesus D.

Yelp
The churros are freshly made to order. You have a choice of having them sprinkled with sugar or sugar and cinnamon. These are a definite must have. We went early in the morning there was no line. They take credit cards.
google avatar

Austin S.

Yelp
Simple and honest review. Good churros, unfriendly staff (minus one star). Don't over order because you'll end up with a stomach ache.
google avatar

Liz N.

Yelp
Stopped by here for an afternoon snack and it didn't disappoint! We ended up getting an order of 4 churros with the chocolate and cajeta dipping sauces. I also added an Mexican hot chocolate cause why not. You can choose between sugar or cinnamon sugar for your churros and we opted for sugar. The chocolate dipping sauce needed a more chocolate forward flavor we thought. The cajeta was good but it was sweet. The Mexican hot chocolate was great to wash down the churros. Service is fast and the restaurant itself was clean.

Garla P.

Yelp
Yummy churros...especially when warm. Love the Mexicano hot chocolate, too! The perfect light dessert after a big dinner!
google avatar

Margaret P.

Yelp
I received a lot of recommendations to try this churros place out, so I was excited to be able to try this place out. I love desserts, and love the texture of churros. This wasn't my favorite churro, but it was good enough. I wish I had it fresh, but the ones they served us was just okay. Make sure you order the dips with the churros for that extra umph!
google avatar

Scott J.

Yelp
Heaven is a churro, and these were the best churros that I've ever had in my life. I went here twice in 7 days just to make sure. The Churros are soft and pillowy, and so fresh. The dipping sauces are insane, my favorite being the condensed milk and the dulce de leche. Customer service is on point, everyone was so nice here. With 4 locations across Mexico City, I can confidently say if you're a churro fan this spot sets a whole new level of amazing.
google avatar

Imran S.

Yelp
i was looking for a churro place in mexico city and online the reviews said this place was good so we decided to check it out. the place looked very clean and spacious and they had designed an open kitchen so you can view the process we ordered a 4-piece churro plus chocolate. you can get the chocolate with different kinds of milk as well the churros were decent - not great but alright. the chocolate was not good; was very watered down and didn't have any flavor overall a somewhat disappointing experience
google avatar

Adam D.

Yelp
For around $20 MXN (or about $1 US) you can get a whole lot of churros. The only problem is they sometimes come out a little over-fried for my taste. Yes, they should be crisp, but not to the point where I have to put some muscle into it. If I have to struggle, imagine what kids must go through? The good news is they offer a churro ice cream sandwich, which softens up the churro. In fact, they offer a trio sampler of slightly larger than bitesize sandwiches with three different kinds of ice cream (chocolate, vanilla and Oreo). This may be as close as it gets to heaven on earth. But you have to somewhat rush through this experience unless you want your ice cream to turn to soup. The hot churros melt it down pretty quickly.

mireya c.

Yelp
Their churros are amazing but my favorite has to be chocolate Eapanol. I can not even begging to describe how unique the flavor is. It's customer service is very friendly.
google avatar

Robert R.

Yelp
Churros we're cold and the staff is extremely rude and unfriendly. Will not be returning to this location for sure. Churros más friyos y duros, personal muy groseros.
google avatar

Ryan S.

Yelp
This location of Churrerí El Moro is so light and bright and in a really convenient location when in the Zona Rosa area. I like this location better than the original since its open and in a slightly nicer area - the churros are hard to beat and the hot chocolate is excellent, especially on cool rainy afternoons and evenings. Be prepared to either take your order to go or spend a few minutes waiting for a table since the space is so small - I think there are maybe 4 tables for 2 indoors and a few outside that were not usable during my visit due to a downpour.
google avatar

Jay F.

Yelp
Historic churreria since 1935, so we had to try it. Here's an unpopular opinion, the churros were just ok IMO. They were freshly cooked and dusted with cinnamon sugar. Would've given 3 stars if not for Reyna, the old lady who was attending to the customers and bussing tables. She deserves all the stars.
google avatar

Amanda L.

Yelp
I absolutely love the churros here, I'd consider them the best I've ever had. Luckily, my hotel was right across the street so I was a frequent visitor during my stay in Mexico City. This place gets busy during peak times and the line can get incredibly long but you can get orders to go as well. It's definitely worth the wait if you're contemplating it! I've tried the churros as well as the mini ice cream sandwiches. I would highly recommend the churros with cinnamon sugar, one order is more than enough for two people. The churros here are hot and fresh, made to order. They are crisp on the outside and soft in the center. You can also get a combo of churros and traditional hot chocolate. The ice cream flavors we had were chocolate, strawberry, and cookies and cream. I would definitely recommend this place for dessert or a snack.

Pau E.

Yelp
Yummy and fresh churros with delicious dipping on the side choose from 4 or 12 to sharr
google avatar

Becca L.

Yelp
These were good, but a bit hard and crunchy. They do have different options of sugar or cinnamon as well as dipping sauces. It's a great location for a pick me up.
google avatar

Mahesh P.

Yelp
Get the hot-chocolate, skip the dip. This chain is located in quite a few places in CDMX. Don't let that mess with you, it's remarkably good. The cool part is that they make it right there, in real time, so yer churros are piping hot, crisp, soft on the inside, and just about perfect. You can get it straight, or sprinkled with sugar, or cinnamon (get the cinnamon). And you can get a dip on the side (condensed milk, chocolate, dulce de leche. Skip these). What you *do* want to do is get it with a cup of hot chocolate, that you can happily dunk your churros into. So yeah, get some, and be happy :-)
google avatar

Jeeyoung P.

Yelp
Delicious churros! Travelers, if you can stop by, you won't regret. We loved their fresh churros and hot chocolate.
google avatar

Brittany M.

Yelp
I feel bad giving this place 3 stars bc it's such a popular place. But I don't really get why. :( It was a beautiful place, and I appreciate the history, but I've had much better churros from a lot of diff places, mainly street vendors. They have a fun black churro for the holidays, that was cute. But not somewhere I would recommend...
google avatar

Pharryl M.

Yelp
I visited El Moro on a weekday in the middle of the day so it wasn't as lively as you see on Tik Tok or Instagram but nonetheless still amazing. This place is so visually pleasing and I loved the fact that it transported you to someone's authentic kitchen is the vibe I got. The area is all open so you are able to actually see the fry your churros in front of you aka you get the freshest of fresh churros. I order the mini churros with crema baltida (aka whip cream) lol my new favorite Spanish word. If you aren't into whip crema they have so many other dips. Don't forget to grab a coffee or a smoothie beverage and enjoy!!
google avatar

Heather F.

Yelp
Loved this place! We came here twice! They have everything churro related and some other goodies. This particular location was a hole in the wall spot in the middle of the Roma areas' bar and restaurant scene. It was within walking distance of my hotel and the restaurant we ate at the 2nd time. The inside has a 1950s ice cream parlor vibe. They also have coffee. The churros are huge, so if your not a big eater you could easily share one. I got my own through. You can get a churro dipped in regular sugar or cinnamon sugar. I got the cinnamon sugar both times. On Sunday night around 9pm, there was a line out the door. I also noticed you could get churro ice cream sandwiches after the fact. I would want to try that if I come here again. The churros were crunchy and delicious. Perfect after dinner or sweet tooth snack.

Yelp
When in Mexico, one must have churros! These guys are definitely doing it right because I remembered them from my first trip to Mexico City 4 years ago. As soon as we touched down by plane, I knew churros from here were def on the agenda. You can order them plane like I do with just cinnamon and sugar or you can order a dipping sauce on the side. I've tried the chocolate one and it's bomb! They also offer their churros as an ice cream sandwich. That is my husbands go to and he loves it. The ice cream is a bit too creamy for me, but if that's your jam-go for it! Overall love this place and will always pay them a visit when I'm in town.
