"A New York-style deli that ticks off every box, from egg creams to complimentary pickles and matzo ball soup. Chutzpah serves all-day breakfast, which includes bagels and bialys, and has sandwiches packed with brisket, chopped liver, and tongue. Entrees stay classic, too, with corned beef and cabbage, chicken in a pot, and bacon-wrapped meatloaf." - Missy Frederick, Eater Staff

Nice atmosphere. Good customer service helpful male that took our order. Turkey sandwich is tasty. Good pickles. Pricey.

I thought I’d found a good NY Style deli/diner but my 2nd visit was a HUGE disappointment!!! Definitely NOT worth $30! The home fries were over cooked and dry with no flavor. I ordered a mushroom, chutzpah onions & cheese omelette. They gave me a mushroom, bacon & cheese one instead. I should have sent it back! It had no flavor and the bacon was chopped up and greasy within the omelette. It was NOT good at all! The server was doing her best and was nice, while the men behind the counter were not friendly at all when my husband went to them first for butter and then later to pay the bill. There is plenty of free parking, but you’re better off going elsewhere, for breakfast at least. I haven’t had their sandwiches so I don’t know about those. The place is clean & the Yankee pictures are fun, but hanging basically a nude poster in your men’s room speaks volumes. We won’t be back.

We were finally able to enjoy a great lunch at Chutzpah’s. We have been wanting to check out their food out for some time. We were welcomed in and quickly grabbed a table. It was a fairly small diner; booths and tables, but so fun, welcoming and the food smelled wonderful. Our waitress, Gana, was so sweet and really made our first visit here so enjoyable. We tried the classic Reuben sandwich w/potato latkes and sour cream and also the Coufax steak sandwich with onions and a mild horseradish sauce. Both were excellent and for dessert we sampled a chocolate egg cream drink. “SO GOOD!” Check out Chutpah’s and I hope you get Gana as your server, she was THE SWEETEST!

Google
Looked online for a local kosher style deli in the area. It looked like mixed reviews with positive out numbering the negative. This place is like no other kosher deli I've been to. No outspoken ambiance. Tables were full so we decided to order from the to-go counter following the take out sign. Was asked if I wanted it for here or to-go, looked over my shoulder at the tables in confusion and looked back at him and he was gone. Waited for him to return and then was allowed to order. The place was noisy and I couldn't understand him or barely hear him. Ordered two sandwiches and sides Togo for $50. See the attached picture of my $3 side of macaroni salad... Maybe 2oz. Probably will not be back.

Google
Pretty solid Jewish/New York-style deli. We enjoyed their matzo ball soup and whitefish salad bagel sandwich. Service was a bit on the slower side, but they were pretty busy on a Sunday during lunch time. It’s a good stop if you’re hungry after your Costco run.

We ordered our first sandwiches when we moved to Fairfax since it's close to our home. During this time we were unboxing our belongings to settle in. Now it's been three months and we decided to eat at the restaurant again. In my opinion our first sandwiches tasted better. Maybe they changed the cook? Our waitress Trinity was great, professional, no complaints. She brought our complimentary cole slaw and pickles in a broken wooden bowl. Also the coleslaw was watered down and esp. the large pickle had bad spot on it. See photos below. I tried to hide the broken part and did my best to find the best angle, to take great photos of sandwiches. I had the "Pastrami in Hero Roll with Swiss Cheese with Sweet Potato Fries." My pastrami was really tough with too much black pepper. The top sauce of the sandwich not good either. Husband had "Combo Reuben on Toasted Bread and French Fries." In his opinion the sandwich is okay too prepared in the wrong bread. We shared one Ice Tea. The food lacks presentation too. Kind of sloppy the way food was served. The food is NOT New York City style, it is just OK. I lived in NYC for over a decade, so I know the difference. I know good food when I see and taste it. The menu is very verbose with too many options over multiple pages for something as simple as sandwiches. The ambiance is not great - to me the interior needs a deep cleaning and the condiments and napkin holder on the table were greasy. The whole environmental style is awful and not inviting to eat, relax and enjoy.

Google
Great food and great people working here! Aaron was wonderful as our server and the whitefish salad is beautiful. I grew up in New York and I am bringing some home to my mom! Such a great place to bring back some good childhood memories for me that I can’t get where I’m living right now ❤️

Google
Excellent food and service. The French toast is delicious and unique, a breakfast must try. Pancakes are very large, fluffy and delicious. Eggs were cooked perfectly and the hash browns were extra browned and perfect. Bagels, well, you can only imagine.. Service was really good. Only critique was the noise, little loud but there's also limited seating and it's always busy, for good reason. A little extra noise is definitely worth the food and NY atmosphere. Go Yankees!

Yelp
Stopped in for some grub for lunch. Ordered the Turkey Club on toasted Rye bread - with a bag of Jalapeño potato chips - to go. The sammich was stuffed full of tender turkey. The only thing I was not a fan of was the flavor of the dill pickle that came on the side. Paid with Apple Pay. Service was good! #Chutzpah

Yelp
Literally this is New York in Northern Virginia. The owner of this place is hilarious! You'll know as soon as you walk in. My kudos to him and all employees. This place lives up to its name. If you need delicious bagels, or deli lunch meat sandwiches, this is where you should go. It's a cozy place. Nothing pretentious about it, as it's the opposite of the area. By all means try anything with their pastrami. Good luck finding better, as the closest is NYC. A fun restaurant and good value too. I'm happy to put my stamp of approval on this, as it's a special place, that is a spot to roll to!

Yelp
15/10 on EVERYTHING! Walking in the delicious smells waft from the kitchen, making you hungrier than ever. A large display of deli meats, house made sides, and a bunch of pastries line the ordering counter. The man working the counter was very helpful and kind (I took about 10-15 minutes looking through their extensive menu) I wish I had caught his name! I went with the combo Rueben, and traded the fries for a potato latke. First off, the portions are HUGE! Probably 2 meals worth for me! The latke is crispy on the outside and warm and delicious on the inside, with a side of sour cream and deliciously sweet applesauce. Second, the Rueben... oh my.... The father of all Sandwhiches, my absolute favorite. Pastrami AND corned beef absolutely loaded with melted Swiss, a healthy serving of sauerkraut and Italian dressing. 100% coming back to try out some of their other menu items, and Im for sure getting a slice of that carrot cake!

Yelp
Great NY style deli, the pickles and slaw they offer before your meal are superb. The pickles tasted just like the ones my mother used to make from the cucumbers in our garden. My guy friend had a reuben with onion rings. I had a brisket hoagie with onions and horseradish. Really great meal in a very chill deli.

Yelp
This is a lovely and tasty story of 2 guys: 1) Both are from Long Island, New York. 2) They are in their 60's. 3) They love good food. One prepares it with so much love and serves it with even more; the other loves to eat. 4) They both have a lot of Chutzpah. Eric is the amazing, fun and lovely owner of Chutzpah Deli in Fairfax, Virginia. He has been doing this for 23 glorious years. Ray N is the lucky bum who is this Yelper writing this review. He just found about this fantastic, authentic, buzzing and happening deli and restaurant located 20 miles west of our great capital and 250 miles south of Manhattan. Eric has succeeded in naturally creating a genuine NY experience not only with NY sports memorabilia on the walls but an inviting vibe the moment you enter, delicious fare including huge pastrami, corned beef, whitefish salad, tuna salad and numerous sandwiches, great salad options, beautiful knishes, potato latkes, meatloaf and probably the best pea soup I have ever had plus a solid team that is on the ball. The slaw with the pickle( photo) brought back some sweet memories and a tear or three. B & W and rainbow cookies as well! My server Charlie was this awesome and fun lady who handled several tables and yes a couple of grumpy and impatient ol' NYers seated behind me with class, patience and a big smile. Benny was the happy guy ( photo) slicing at the deli. Eric checked up on me twice asking how my sandwich and soup was. Chutzpah is a self seating and first come first served restaurant. Great prices, immaculate, fantastic food, generous portions, happy employees, ample parking in the lot and open at 7 am. It's a beautiful thing!

Yelp
I'm done with Chutzpah. It hurts me to say this as it used to be great and I still love the food. However, ever since Covid the service has been horrific. I've even spoken to the owner, who has acknowledged the problem. However, instead of making it better it remains high turnover and low quality. My experience today did me in. Over 45 minutes to get food, brought out the wrong order, another 10 minutes to toast the right bagel, and the check was wrong and took another 10min to correct. The table next to me sent their food back 3 times! Finally, the platters that used to feed two people look more like the picked up the fish scraps and threw them on a plate. Skimping on already expense portions and poor service is no way to run a restaurant. I'm sorry, but you have lost my business.

Sarah K.

Yelp
We came here on a Wednesday afternoon just before 12 pm and it was PACKED. We were able to get the last table before groups of people started trickling in. It was our first time here and the menu is pretty big but we settled on sharing a cheesesteak and Caesar salad. So glad we did because it was huge and very filling. Our servers were friendly and fun. The cheesesteak was the best one I've had in years! My husband and I were really impressed. Next time I'd swap out the American cheese for provolone but it was soooo good. Wish we got to try the pickles and coleslaw (it's free and comes with your entree!) we just forgot to remind the servers for ours. Highly recommend and we'll definitely be back for more.

Mona H.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped here to grab some bagels prior to a bike ride and they did not disappoint! He got an everything bagel with their triple onion cream cheese and loved it. I got the best lox bagel I've ever had and will definitely be back! The cream cheese, onion, tomato, lox, and capers ratio was perfection.

Yelp
After hearing so many great things about this Jewish Deli I came in for lunch one weekday... They were really busy when I got there, just after 12 noon, but I found a single table. Soon after sitting down, the server came over and greeted me and got my drink started. Meanwhile, a different guy, perhaps a manager stopped by and started a conversation - a great conversation about their food, what meats they prepare in-house, the history of many of the sandwichs and meats, etc. I learned a lot, which I thoroughly appreciated! I opted for their most popular sandwich, the Ruben (yes, I opted for "basic") and it was excellent! The meat was incredibly tender and tasty and sliced slightly thicker than most places. The sauce was really tasty and tasted like it was made in-house. Bread and assembly was spot on! Their potato latke was tasty and thicker than I'm used to, but very nice flavor! I also loved their home made mustard in the bottle on the table, it had a really nice spice to it!! While waiting, they brought pickles and coleslaw and both were excellent! Service was excellent too! I highly recommend stopping in - I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
New York deli food in a very causal place in Fairfax town center is our go to place with really great comfort food. If you have this for lunch you will not be hungry for dinner no room for or their desserts which look great. The servers told me to choose the bagel instead of the toast. I couldn't finish my egg and ham omelet, so home it went for the next days breakfast with the bagel. The fries were amazing not sure how they cook and season them but they were good. Regarding the ambience/ it's a deli with tables and a lot of take out- no outside setting, but clean and seating for kids. It's a busy little place and worth your while for a late afternoon meal if you're hungry. One thing you really need to try is their chicken noodle soup. I've not tasted any better. I would have had it this time but Barry challenged me to try something different this time. Next time , I'm back to having the soup again with a bagel-:)

Claro G.

Yelp
Sandwiches are excellent!!! Need to remember not to eat too many pickles and slaw but it's tasty.

Ricky G.

Yelp
Still trying to find a restaurant that will make the North Jersey version of the sloppy Joe. The pastrami and turkey were awesome but cut way too thick as was the rye bread. It had the right amount of thousand island dressing and coleslaw, but the sandwich was huge! Not the typical finger food size we expected.

Ali N.

Yelp
I'm a New Yorker and am always hesitant when I see places advertised as "a New York Deli", but let me tell you..Chutzpah has earned that title for sure. Their corned beef sandwiches are fantastic! If you like liver try the Fuggedabout it...corned beef or pastrami with a smear of chopped liver with Swiss cheese, Cole slaw and Russian dressing! Bring your appetite because the portions do not skimp! Try the Browns black cherry or cream soda. The staff are all great, I love chatting with them. 10/10 recommend.

Natalya A.

Yelp
Plenty of parking; comfortable dinning; friendly servers; the food was OLD and DRY; no taste what so ever. Plus, basic vegetables that comes with sandwiches had an add on charge. Will NEVER return and I do NOT recommend. We had pastrami and roast beef sandwitches. Not ok!!!!!

Urgamal A.

Yelp
I do know how Ny Deli should be. But this place has very good food... sandwiches are bomb and entrees are superb! I love how nice and warm their staff is!

Bryce C.

Yelp
Good food leaves a horrible taste in mouth. Menu unclear and nonsensical. Onion rings $2.50 with sandwich. But only with small sandwich. Onion rings with regular size sandwich are $6.00. What!? That makes no sense. Attitude of manager: "$6.00. Too bad suckah". Food was okay. As expected. But they don't deserve your business.

Dana P.

Yelp
I have lived fairly nearby Chutzpah for well over a decade and I have no idea why it took me so long to get to this hidden gem. The staff were so kind and attentive. I was there for lunch with two young girls and the waitress and a new hire she was training were beyond wonderful. The food was so delicious. The pickles and coleslaw were a great touch and the coleslaw was really excellent and I am not a coleslaw person. My kids ordered pretty standard fare off the kids menu. The apple sauce with my daughter's kid's meal was so good. We ordered a side of latkes with sour cream. They were huge and we ended up boxing up the majority of the food. I ordered the chicken noodle soup with a matzah ball and it was wonderful. I should have skipped the side salad, which I had no room for. We ordered chocolate rugelach to go and wow, they were so flaky and the chocolate was so rich. We will be coming back to try more items on the menu.

Kimberly L.

Yelp
Neighborhood deli that is open for breakfast too! Knew we had to try this place out and plan to go back. The servings are pretty big for the egg scramblers and it comes with a bagel too. They also keep the coffee refills coming. Plan to try a deli sandwich next time!

Ilene K.

Yelp
We were so excited to find a Jewish style deli. Our excitement soon turned to disappointment. The service was lousy, the food was not up to our expectation and the waitress forgot my daughter's order. We all had corn beef sandwiches, which was very. When we asked about the charges on the bill the waitress was nice about explaining it to us. The owner, however, came over and he was not very accommodating. There was no apology for the overcharge on the bill and the food never being given to my daughter. I realize this is a small business, but at the very least, there should have been an apology. If this business wants people to come back, which I'm sure he does, they should always be accommodating. I'm hoping that this was just an off day.

Caryna F.

Yelp
Had a very nice early dinner. Could only eat half of what was served. Portions are huge! They also sell sandwich meats and salads by the pound at the counter. Dine in or carry out. We ordered several sandwiches, some knish's, and dessert. Service was fast and thoughtful and friendly. We had a great time. Will come back. Oh- they offer real NYC bagels. Might need to try that next.

Bobby S.

Yelp
What can I say but I've found my go to NY deli shop here in Northern VA! I visited with my good friend who is a true New Yorka.... gold chain and all! He absolutely loves NY sandwiches, bagels and pizza and said this is a legit NY Deli! He is goin got bring his wife who is also a die hard New York food lover! The menu is absolutely massive! They have everything from Ny bagel with lox and capers to all the deli meats and white fish you can dream of... But for me I couldn't even focus on any of that because I needed to have the Pastramj and the Corn beef Reuben... we chose the Esther which is a Pastrami sandwich with peppers and spicy mustard with Muenster cheese... absolutely amazing! My personal favorite was the Reuben on sourdough... the meat was plentiful and tender. Just the perfect combination of sauerkraut and thousand island sauce! The pictures will tell you thousand stories! I can't wait to come back to try their breakfast and bagels! Don't miss out! Come!

Richard G.

Yelp
They call this a "Real New York Deli Restaurant", but if it was located in NYC, it would have been out of business a long time ago. Matzoh balls were a nice size, but the flavor was not what mama used to make. Also, the Potato Pancakes were large, but flavorless. The only thing that reminded me of a NY Deli, was the nasty person I spoke to on the phone

Anushka M.

Yelp
Came to sit down and enjoy their breakfast. They have an extensive menu which makes it easy to find something for everyone. They have an all day breakfast menu but also a separate breakfast menu that's available till 11am weekdays and noon weekends. They also have lunch items such as sandwiches burgers and salads. We went with chocolate chip pancakes and an egg pepper cheese and onion sandwich for breakfast, and onions rings, latkes and a two scoop salad with egg salad for lunch. The onion rings and latkes were shared with both of us while I had the salad for my entree. It was so delicious, the egg salad was amazing! They also have a house-made mustard at each table that everyone needs to try. It was so good, especially dipping the onions rings in it! The atmosphere is very cozy and gives a homey vibe which I love. When you come in you can walk to any clean table and a waiter will come with menus to you. The experience was great. I've been here before for takeout only so I'm glad I got to stop by again and dine in. Definitely see myself coming back! The employees and owner are so friendly, and you can tell the food is made fresh.

Summer W.

Yelp
excellent deli!!! Fair price and good people. Great bagel. Love coming here before work to grab a quick bite.

Becky F.

Yelp
Dropped in on a Saturday afternoon around noon. Be prepared very little seating so we got to go and are in the car. I got the traditional Reuben with corned beef. Amazing. Perfect! Literally what a Reuben should be. The fries were ok. Nothing special. My husband got the sweet potato fries and says they were so much better. Hubby got a chicken tender sandwich with marinara sauce and mozzarella- so mainly like a chicken parm sandwich. He said it was good but not great. Son got a cheesesteak- he wasn't too happy with his. I didn't taste it so don't know. Definitely didn't look like what you would get up north in Philly or NYC. They do have cakes from Juniors in NYC so that's a good plus!

Yvonne S.

Yelp
Went there a couple hours ago. The worse food we have ever had. Steak and cheese meat was like rubber not even sure it was steak. My MIL had a Ruben she said the meat was dry and tough. We had to throw everything in the trash! I do not recommend this place! If I could give no stars that's what it would be!

Chathu K.

Yelp
This place great! Small deli with really good food and service! Sandwiches are massive and I barely finished it! Highly recommend this place!

brad c.

Yelp
Outstanding. Menu is massive and has so many intriguing options. Portions are very generous. Food is delicious. Also, loved the coffee and complimentary pickles and coleslaw.

Alvin B.

Yelp
The bagels are so thick and tasty. It's nice to know you don't have to travel to New York City for a good one. Come here for a hearty breakfast. No need for a chain visit.

Kirk F.

Yelp
I ordered a corned beef sandwich from there (To Go). What I found when I got home was corned beef that was so incredibly dry that I ended up throwing most of it away. I was raised in a Jewish home in a Jewish neighborhood and have been eating this kind of food all of my life. So I know exactly what to expect. It is a real shame because the place is very close to my house and it would been great to have Jewish style deli so close by. Unfortunately, what they served me is called in Yiddish "dreck".

Armand L.

Yelp
I want to like the Deli but it consistently disappoints me. The service is a hit or miss, with mostly misses. The food is average. There is no ambiance but the staff has attitude if that is any consolation. Go if you're close by and can walk there if you don't drive somewhere else.

Rick S.

Yelp
For northern Virginia it's outstanding but compared to Baltimore or NY Jewish delis not so much. Service is good people are nice but the food is very average at best. Decor is run down bathroom needs a remodel and deep cleaning.

Tammie V.

Yelp
Well I love this place in the past. Today I thought I had a very simple order 3 ( 2 everything bagel & 1 sesame) toasted bagels to go. I wanted chopped liver on one of the three. OMG it ended up this huge productions and had to be a liver sandwich for $14 dollars and because the bagels were hot from the oven - he didn't want to toast them. Well they certainly weren't hot by the time we got our order. We were back in the car traveling - opened up my liver sandwich - what the heck chopped liver lbs of it everywhere. Needed a plastic spoon to remake the bagel and it wasn't easy driving. Then my husband opened his - he got a bagel w cream cheese not sesame not an everything bagel . Unbelievable - I guess we were 1/3 today!

Claudia Virginia A.

Yelp
Everything in this place is very fresh! So many different aromas from the food items fill the area! Eric is a very hard working individual and compassionate about the location. Ordered: (Photos enclosed) Tuna Fish Salad Sandwich: Good: lots of flavors and textures. Bad: no seasonings Fish and Chips: Good: Enough for 2. Fries, very good. Bad: Breading not seasoned. Dining area: very tight!

DeAngelo V.

Yelp
Who ever doesn't give this place 4-5 stars.....SMH. This place is the best kept secret as far as nova Deli's go. Santini's and Chutzpah are the only 2 deli's worth a damn in the whole area. Chutzpah has the best egg salad, Turkey and chicken soup hands down! Bread is always fresh, great quality spot all the way around. Eat here with confidence! You won't be disappointed!

Silvia Y.

Yelp
Super greasy food. it was our worst experience ever. I do not agreed with any of the good reviews I have read. Save your money and go first watch or ihop

John S.

Yelp
This is the best deli in N/VA. We had lunch there today. It was crowded with people waiting in line. The food was amazing. I had a pastrami reuben. The meat was very flavorful. The bread was great with big slices. Their pickles and slaw when you first sit down are incredible. We've been going here for years and it never disappoints. Best Pastrami in NOVA. highly recommended.

Matthew F.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place since a friend highly recommended it, but I ended up only liking it. Still, I'll go back to try again in case this was a one off. I ordered the Koufax (beef brisket sandwich) and a knish to go. The sandwich was good but not great; the meat was pretty good, but for some reason the bread was dull. I ended up pulling most of the meat out and eating it that way. The knish, on the other hand, was outstanding. They supplied some hot mustard which went very well with it. I'd eat these all day if I could. I actually ended up with two of them; they accidentally gave me the knish my friend ordered for herself. Good for me - but I'm sure she's wasn't thrilled!

Clayton V.

Yelp
I've dined at Chutzpah many times over the years - still one of the few places in NOVA where you can get pastrami on rye sandwiches as authentic as I can find without having to travel to delis in midtown Manhattan. The only thing I don't like is that the opening hours are greatly reduced compared to what they were in the past - this effectively eliminates them as a dinner option. On the other hand, I know that many small restaurants are still feeling the effects of the pandemic after over three years. I hope Chutzpah is around for many more years to come.

Charissa C.

Yelp
Yes!! If you have a chance. Get the combo Reuben. The meat is soft and melt in your mouth. Somehow, even with the large amount of corned beef and pastrami on there, there's a perfect balance of flavor. The latkes are also huge and very filling and delicious. My only warning - the sandwiches are addicting The service is also great. The man behind the counter laughed and joked with me and made sure I understood everything on the large menu and got what I wanted!!!!

steve g.

Yelp
The service here is a bit slow really slow. Well if you are thinking of popping in for a bagel with cream cheese don't plan on it being quick. Plan on 30 minutes of waiting. Then if they run out of the bagel you ordered they will just give you whatever else they have without even asking if you want something else. Mine today was also burned and not even any good.

Charity P.

Yelp
Ordered food at noon and the two tables sat after us received their food before us. 50 min after ordering, we are still waiting. We are reminded why we don't come here.

Mama T.

Yelp
A real NYC deli in VA, finally... Bagels and deli sandwiches were awesome with tons of meat. Well worth a visit if you like reap deli sandwiches. Service was a little slow because they were very busy when we went. Will go back again and again for deli food and fresh NYC bagels.

John T.

Yelp
Awful service, don't even deserve one star! went early on Father's Day, waited an hour for food and a second cup of coffee only to have it served cold. When I spoke to the manager he said " maybe it was a bad idea to come in on Father's Day ". Seriously, didn't offer a resolution, when I mentioned I wasn't paying, we were told to leave, very rude, gross, dirty, duct tape holding seats together, no wonder they are under staffed, our teenage waiter said if we didn't pay, then he would have to pay, completely awful! Then as a kicker "we hope you come back when we're not so busy". What a joke! And a complete waste of time.

John F.

Yelp
Will never forget Father's Day 2022 - Arrived at around noon waited 20 minutes for a table and waited another hour and a half to NOT get our food. We were told that it would be a little bit of a wait but never expected it to go over an hour. When we were informed that we would get our meals as soon as the owner finished up the take-out orders we decided to leave. Apparently take-out orders are infinitely more important than dine-in orders here. To be fair, the waiter was very kind and understanding. They gave us some food that was meant for another table (that also left) to pick at while we waited. My gripe is with the owner, several families waited and some left because the take-out orders were more important than the dine-ins. Very disappointed and will never return.

Braden C.

Yelp
We waited a very long time for a mediocre matzo. The chicken noodle soup might as well have been canned, and the matzo ball itself was unsalted and bland.

Lisa W.

Yelp
A friend from work & had breakfast here. This is the first time I had homemade corned beef hash & it was amazing! Everything was fresh & delicious. Our server Charlie was very nice & provided good service. I definitely will return soon!

Marty S.

Yelp
As a New Yorker who's been living in the D.C. area for almost fifty years, I can sadly attest to the dearth of good delis and pizza in the region. Chutzpah didn't disappoint when it comes to poor food and haphazard service. A friend and I dined here this week and I made the mistake of ordering a pastrami sandwich on rye--my deli go to meal. Without question, thus was hands down THE WORST pastrami sandwich I've ever had, and I've been eating pastrami sandwiches for almost 70 years. Compared to New York delis, the amount of meat served on Chutztpah's regular sandwich would have amounted to what falls OFF a regular New York deli sandwich. The meat was so tough I was forced to use a fork and knife to cut it into pieces so I could chew it, andceven then it was a challenge. The meat was tasteless, lacking the requisite spice profile normally associated with pastrami, and the bread it was on literally fell apart. The two pickles that accompanied the sandwich tasted like supermarket pickles from a jar, and the coleslaw was lackluster. At no time did the wait staff stop by to see how everything was or see if we needed anything else. My friend had to flag down one of them twice to get his drink refilled. My friend ordered a fried chicken salad that looked dreadful. Take my advice and find somewhere else to dine. if you're in the mood for deli, you can always order on-line from Katz's or Carnegie.

Yelp
Cozy spot but food is underwhelming. Service is quite slow. Came in for breakfast and there was one person waiting on the whole restaurant. There were only 3 other tables but it was more than she could manage. Waited to put in my order. It was corned beef hash with breakfast potatoes. The potatoes were crispy but the hash was over cooked and hard in most parts. It took longer to get my check back than it took to eat my meal. Hoping this was just an off day.
