Chicago’s Best Ice Cream Shops | Eater Chicago

"As the name suggests, this Bronzeville cafe is filled with old-school fun. Liquid nitrogen is used to produce the made-to-order ice creams — each named after a classic song — and options include “Papa Don’t Peach,” consisting of peach cobbler, graham crackers, cinnamon, and whipped cream, and “Old Fashioned Love,” a riff on the classic cocktail. Milkshakes can also be spiked with booze, and the shop has a collection of board games for guests to play while they enjoy their frozen desserts." - Jeffy Mai

I rented out the front area for my birthday party and I couldn’t have asked for a better time! The service was amazing, the bar was decorated beautifully and food and drinks were delicious! They even allowed me to have a specialty cocktail. We were able to come in advance to drop off some decorations I wanted to put out and we got to try the cocktail beforehand too. There were different party packages to choose from which I appreciated as well. I live nearby so I’ve been in to visit many times and I’ve always had a good experience so I knew I was making a good choice trusting them for my party. I would recommend Ciao to anyone! 🩷

I recently hosted an end-of-the-year party for our teaching team at this incredible Italian restaurant, and I couldn’t be more impressed! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. The staff was not only kind and attentive but also went above and beyond to make sure every detail was perfect for our celebration. The food? Absolutely outstanding. Every dish was served in generous portions, bursting with authentic Italian flavor, every plate was a hit. No one left hungry—and many of us left with delicious leftovers! The service was seamless and professional, with staff anticipating our needs before we even had to ask. It’s clear they take pride in what they do. The restaurant itself was spotless, with a clean and inviting atmosphere that made us feel right at home. If you're looking for a place to host a gathering or simply enjoy a fantastic Italian meal, I can’t recommend this place highly enough. It was the perfect setting to celebrate a year of hard work with colleagues, and we’ll definitely be back!

Just had a baby shower at Ciao and it was wonderful! Started with a charcuterie board and shrimp. Then a buffet with chicken parm, pizza, penne pasta and Ceasar salad. Also had a special drink menu and mini cannolis for dessert. The food was excellent and service was great. Would highly recommend Ciao for a special event.

Ciao Ciao was the perfect spot for my bridal shower! We rented out the restaurant, and the team went above and beyond to make the day so special. The food was absolutely delicious, the cocktails were amazing, and the staff was incredibly accommodating to every request. I can’t recommend this place enough! Whether you're planning an event or just stopping by for a cocktail and a bite, Ciao Ciao is a must!

My friend I visited on 7/11/25, drinks were good. We sat on the patio, our server (who we later found out it was the manager) took our food order. We waited over an hour, nobody came to check on us and then we noticed our server got in his car and left. It was about another 15 minutes before someone else came to check on us and asked us if we wanted to order any appetizers. To which we said we already put in an order with our server . And she said with who? We said the guy who just drove away in the ford bronco. Our server said oh that was the manager he can be kind of spacey, he most likely did not put in your order. So she said she would go put in our order (pasta primavera and the special which was Alfredo penne with grilled salmon) because the kitchen was about to close in 10 minutes. We got our food about 20 minutes later and the Alfredo penne with grilled salmon had no salmon and hardly any sauce (see picture). We did not eat the special because we wanted to show our server it was missing the salmon. Our new server was nowhere to be found, we sat waiting for another 20 minutes. We decided to go up to the bar to settle the check and the bartender couldn’t find our table or order in the system. Our new server came out from the back after what was now 30 minutes to help the bartender figure out what was going on with our check. But then she proceeded to hand us a bill with someone else’s drinks on it, we told her that was not our order. Finally, she put in our order correctly and she did comp the penne with grilled salmon. Overall it seemed like everyone was not sober. Because every interaction was just incredibly odd on top of all the mishaps. At least the drinks were good.

The steamed clams were the biggest and most delicious I have ever had. A truly unexpected surprise and will order a million times again

Ciao is the kind of place you walk into and instantly feel at home. The food is ridiculously good, the drinks are top-notch and the vibes are just right! Whether you're grabbing a quick drink or settling in for dinner, you'll probably end up staying longer than you planned (in the best way). Definitely coming back!

Been here a few times and never had a bad experience. This time I had a dish that was called baked brie. It was baked Brie covered in crispy prosciutto, with a side of jam and crustinis. I believe it said hot hunny on the menu too but I didn't taste that part, it was delicious. Yesterday happened to be extremely busy, but with the warm weather coming around that is to be expected on Hertel. Another bartender probably would have heightened the experience. Otherwise, cozy and comfortable environment. Even with the lack of help, the ladies did an excellent job.
