Chef Adele’s downtown dining room blends intimate Italian dinners with hands‑on pasta and limoncello classes. Praised by locals and frequently booked for events, it’s a personable way to taste homestyle sauces and desserts made the old way.

My first time here and will definitely be coming back! Great service, food was absolutely delicious and it was very pretty, cozy and clean inside. We got the pasta wheel and pollo piccata, and I picked out the hazelnut and pistachio pastries from their bakery case. Best meal and experience at a restaurant that I’ve had in a while.

Have know Adele Ciao for 25 years. She is the best Italian Chef around. Had the Pheasant Tortellini and the Lobster pasta. Buono.

Best Italian in SB, hands down. Closer to actual Italian than the American-homestyle Italian places we have here in SB. They’ve opened the restaurant back up and take walk-ins but reservations are always great. They always have great specials that the waiters will guide you through, as well as a solid wine list for those who partake. I’ve been to Ciao’s quite a few times, but this latest time was just too good not to share. The bruschetta is a mainstay on the menu and is worth ordering. They give you free bread for the table and we got the spicy mussels to start - they were wonderfully fresh with a calm heat in the tomato sauce, would definitely order again. We ordered the special lamb plate and the scallops; both of us were basking in how divine both plates were! They even gave us more bread to sop up the leftover sauce. The owner who often comes and chats to everyone in the dining room is a true delight and remembers familiar faces; she works hard to make sure you have a smile on your face while you enjoy the food. I love Ciao’s and am so happy they have the dining room open!

Great atmosphere, loved the food, and the people that work there made it feel like home. I’ll be back! Good wine too. I really liked the little pastry case at the front. Very fun❤️

Done by reservations only. Went in and was seated right away. Seemed like there was only one person taking orders for all the tables. She was nice and answered any questions had before ordering. The armosphere was quant but sat toward the kitchen and could hear the clanging of pots and pans throughout dinner. The restrooms were next to the kitchen too. Had good portion size for the food but prices were on the higher side I thought. For desert if get any you go up front to there case of deserts and pick what you want and it is brought to your table. The table side cheese wheel is put on fire and cheese scraped inside of it and pasta was put inside to mix together. It was suppose to be carbonara but just had bacon pieces in it nothing else. The lasagna was good.

First time here. Love the atmosphere! Super friendly staff. Great prices for the quality and quantity of our dinners. All homemade pasta. Cheese wheel presentation was unique and worth the extra money! 💕 Would definitely return!

Google
Came in for a Valentine’s Day dinner. The spinach ravioli, giant ravioli stuffed with egg and cheese with freshly shaved truffle, and scallops in a half shell were delicious. Authentic Italian food at its best. The place needs a little more color and a small makeover but it’s charming and the staff are kind. The cannolis and chocolate truffle were also delicious. The place should have been packed but wasn’t. It gives a “hidden gem” vibe in downtown South Bend.

Absolutely love Ciaos! The cheese wheel was such a fun (and delicious) experience to order and their soups are amazing! Make sure to pick up some cannolis - delicious!

Yelp
First visit to Ciao's, what a great evening. Four couples: 8 different dinners.Well served. Superb food. Chef Angela was busy, but not too busy to entertain us with some stories about her home town in Italy. We'd all go back, and leave room for the home made desserts.

Yelp
Celebrated a birthday dinner here. Great restaurant to sit and converse with a group. Fair prices for a posh experience, delicious little baguettes at the table. Ciao's staff is kind and welcoming! For a birthday, the traditional of our group would have loved to have a cake option or dessert menu versus mainly pastries, but how fun to even pop in here and grab a treat from behind the counter.

Yelp
We had a fun sibling dinner here. The food was great and servers knowledgeable and helpful. Try the cannoli!!!!! Cisco's was a perfect spot for us we could catch up because it wasn't too loud like so many other restaurants.

Yelp
absolutely delicious authentic Italian food -- we went on a recommendation while we were visiting our daughter at Notre Dame. Great service, charming ambiance and amazing pastries!!

Yelp
We finally made it here for dinner, not realizing it was their first night back after being closed to focus on special events. We had a reservation and were seated when we arrived. Our server let us know she was training a new server tonight and they were working to time orders for the kitchen since it was Adele's (chef and owner) first night back. They have a limited drink menu with a nice selection of wines and a few beers. The menu is fantastic and our server did a great job of explaining tonight's highlights which included fresh mussels and scallops they just got in. I couldn't resist ordering the pasta finished in the parmesan wheel. Previously the offered three different options, but are only doing one option at this time which happened to be pasta carbonara. The pasta is finished in a giant flaming parmesan wheel tableside. All the pasta is homemade and cooked perfectly. While great, I'm not sure I would spring for the $35 price tag again. My husband ordered scallops and pasta with green beans, which he loved. The only critique was the scallops needed a sear on them. You can't skip dessert when you are here - the pastry case is impressive and we took several items home with us. Adele can't resist visiting tables and offered us one of her homemade Italian almond cookies as we were picking out our pastries. Definitely worth a visit for some of the best homemade pasta in the area!

Yelp
Food: Elegant and succinct tastes--bellemissio! Service. Attentive and friendly Ambiance. Reminds me of bistros in Italy. My go to place for frequent dinners. The owner, Adele, is a treasure! And if you need catering look no further.

Yelp
A table of ten Three of us ordered the special halibut It was so dry and no sauce Over cooked on all three Very expensive and service was not great I would not go back or suggest this place given the cost and poor quality

Yelp
What an amazing experience! The restaurant was very intimate and beautifully decorated. Our server was helpful with the menu and attentive but not obtrusive. The food was wonderful - our group had items from both the regular and restaurant week menus. From the fresh bread and herbed olive oil to the homemade dessert options, everything was delicious and different. Prices were what you would expect for a nice meal.

Yelp
Visited South Bend for a conference, this place came highly recommended by a bartender. The house bread was perfect, the napoleon was excellent- highly recommend the sweet treats. The service was good, they took us right in as walk-ins. But I have to say the bolognese sauce reminded me of spaghettio's. Way too sweet. The pasta itself was good; I am hoping it was a one-off and no one else experiences this. It was a lovely location, and the staff were so nice; it was really hard to believe the sauce was that undesirable. I would still eat here again, but definitely order a different entree!

Yelp
Everything was incredible!!! I cannot recommend this place enough. Amazing food, amazing service, amazing deserts, amazing everything. If you are in South Bend, you have to go.

Yelp
Authentic Italian flavors in every dish. We love this restaurant! Not only is the food outstanding, but the desserts and other treats are excellent too. I adore the lasagna. Superb service and priced right!

Yelp
Great service for our birthday celebration. Have wanted to try this place for quite some time. I used to purchase Adele's baked goods before she moved downtown. Her baked goodies are amazing and still are. We were offered free samples of several of her desserts due to it being the birthday of two of our party. Food was good, but not as outstanding as we had hoped expecially for the prices. Hoestly, if we return it will be for baked creations only.

Yelp
Completely ignored us. Treats looked delicious though. Figured we would try out a local place while driving through.

Yelp
This was my first time here but they made a fantastic first impression. Everything was tasty and fresh. The pheasant ravioli was the surprise of the night and everyone's favorite dish, but the carbonara and lasagna were also excellent. I've been here several times just for carryout desserts and those are also really good

Yelp
We had a party of 25 so this was going to be a challenge and the staff were great. Its not a large place and you might walk past it without noticing but you need to find this spot. We had a sampling of chicken parm eggplant parm lasagna penne brucetta and deserts. Each and every dish was delicious. They have a good wine and bar selection. Prices were very reasonable for such quality. This is a great place to grab some fine Italian fare. We will be back.

Yelp
We took our nephew here (his choice) on 4-26-2023 for a combo birthday/graduation dinner. This place has a wonderful atmosphere. Perfect for a celebration with authentic Italian food and a quiet and intimate ambiance. I had the dish that is made inside the huge wheel of Parmesan, a fun spectacle and delicious. After dinner, the accomplished female chef came out of the kitchen to say hello and give our nephew a hug and kiss (he had dined here many times before). So touching!

Yelp
Can't talk enough about how great this authentic Italian spot is! Great selection for wine and champagne. We had the Burrata appetizer and it was so flavorful and delicious. The Burrata was perfectly complemented by the arugula, tomatoes, and balsamic. Dinner was also so very tasty! I had the Burrata ravioli and my friend did the pasta wheel fettuccini and it was some of the best pasta we've had, EVER. Don't forget to get some cannolis on your way out. It is truly a hidden gem in South Bend! This place would do so well in a big city, happy to have a great spot in our little town!

Yelp
The wife and I decided to celebrate Valentine's Day early and made reservations at Caio's. I didn't even know they existed! What a hidden gem and the owner is amazing! My wife had the cod that was cooked in parchment with caper, olives and white wine which was cooked to perfection! I had the Osso Buco that was so tender you could have eaten it without teeth! Both entrées were served with fresh green beans and roasted potatoes seasoned to perfection. We enjoyed a cannoli, lemon cookie, Italian wedding cookie and a piece of cake. I can't wait to go back and try more of this home cooking!!

Yelp
Just WOW - Adele is a wonderful chef and the dinner we had over Easter was amazing, so delicious. We felt like honored guests, the back room was perfect for our large group, and the wine selections were terrific. The only concern we had was that the restaurant was very full and our lovely servers seemed to have a hard time keeping up the pace through to dessert, as some of our party were in a time crunch they took their items to go. The dining space is very casual (more of a bakery storefront) so if you're expecting a very luxurious faux Italian decor you're not getting that here, but the food itself far outshines the space. I'd eat her food anywhere!

Yelp
The food was delicious to say the least. The staff was very friendly and the cook came out and checked in all the tables in the restaurant and she was very appreciative of all the great compliments we gave her. Recommend making a reservation, the place is small but super spectacular, definitely recommend dining here and I will do so next time in South Bend, In. Absolute hidden gem!!

Yelp
Adele Ciao's restaurant is absolutely magnificent. The food, wine and people are fabulous. Her cooking is old world italian at its best! My grandfather was a famous italian chef from Italy and I've tasted wonderful italian cooking. The food here is as good as it gets! We will be back again and again. The homemade desserts were just as delicious. I can't say enough good things about this place and its people. If you are near South Bend, this restaurant is a must! If you are catering an event, look no further. I can't wait to go back! Susan

Yelp
Ciao's in South Bend, Indiana is a culinary oasis. I live in a part of Florida that is fortunate enough to have excellent restaurants, many award winning, and I've traveled in Italy. Ciao's ambiance, knowledgeable servers and fresh, perfectly prepared food is second to none. I started with Cozze Piccante(Spicy Mussels) and Burrata. The mussels were perfectly cooked and the spicy tomato sauce that enveloped them complimented the briny succulence of the bivalves. The Burrata was served with arugula and what at first glance was an anemic tomato. I learned not to judge a tomato by its color. The greens were fresh and the perfect compliment to the the rich, creamy cheese but the tomato was bursting with the flavor of summer and made the dish spectacular. We then had Pheasant Tortelli and Bronzino al Forno. Though Adele, the chef/owner, gently tried to steer us to complimentary entrees, we stayed true to our individuality. My husband had the Pheasant and I had the Bronzino al forno. I had never had Pheasant and loved the gaminess of the pheasant stuffed tortelli paired with the earthy mushroom cream sauce. It was not a heavy dish but brought to mind Fall and forests. My Bronzino al forno was summer on a plate. The fish was perfectly prepared in a light lemon herb sauce that enhanced the fish without overwhelming the delicate fish. If you have been to Italy or if you want to experience fresh Italian fare at its finest, make a reservation at Ciao's.

Yelp
My husband loves Italian food so I decided to take him here for his birthday. Usually, when we go anywhere for Italian food, he is disappointed. Not this time' We started with an eggplant parm appetizer and it was delicious. I ordered spaghetti with seafood. The sauce was seasoned just right, the pasta cooked perfect Al dente and just enough seafood. My husband ordered chicken Parmesan and thoroughly enjoyed it! For dessert we ordered a desert tray with a sampling of their authentic Italian pastries. Oh my goodness! We will definitely return! A definite hidden gem.

Yelp
Place is fantastic! Real Italian food at its best! Great service, oh and don't forget a desert!!!

Tamara S.

Yelp
Most underrated restaurant in downtown South Bend! Fresh food made by a real chef at reasonable prices. Save room for dessert!
