Cicoria by Angela Hartnett - Review - Covent Garden - London - The Infatuation

"Cicoria is TV chef Angela Hartnett’s new Italian spot perched on the fifth floor of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. There’s a rooftop terrace, lobster linguini, and views dramatic enough to upstage the actual opera." - Rianne Shlebak

Went for the lunch set menu, had extremely high expectations. Lovely welcome, however one of hosts was a little over the top, almost theatrical and felt a little forced. Bread was ok,nothing special, served with a just a tiny pot of olive oil, needed some balsamic or at least salt, which wasn't on the table. Being half Italian I was excited to order the mozzarella in carozza, what arrived wasn't that at all,it was mozzarella sticks. Tasted ok. Buffalo mozzarella and figs was pleasant enough, again under seasoned. Husband had salami and giardiniera which was very nice. Oxtail ragu with gnocchi was good, very meaty, cod with minestrone was ok. Cheddar with biscuits was ok but the biscuits were very hard,as was the pastry on the chocolate tart, nearly sent it flying trying to cut it with a spoon. Nice touch for my husbands birthday when ice cream and a birthday message arrived. Our waitress was really lovely, very attentive. Service overall seemed a little amateur with a few mistakes here and there. Price was reasonable,no complaints there. Stunning venue although if you're in a wheelchair or have mobility issues good luck getting the lift as it's a heck of a long walk. Growing up in the restaurant business I have high standards and believe in total honesty. Would like to return to try the a la carter menu at some point.

A spectacular and historic venue housing a luxurious and beautifully appointed dining room. Welcoming and engaging staff from check in to the explanation of the clever, wonderfully crafted menu and service. The food was outstanding, top quality curated ingredients, wonderful cooking and presentation, generous portions and sensational layers of taste. We destroyed the food, the attached photos bear testament. The Angela Hartnett vintage wine was a delicious accompaniment. Four people, four courses, wine and water plus digestifs, very reasonable pricing. We had a great night and will be back.

Delicious well cooked food seasoned perfectly and an excellent wine list many served by the half carafe. It’s one of the loveliest places within the opera house but but with that comes difficulties for the restaurant as there is no gentle pacing of customers but waves as people pile in before productions so it must be difficult to keep a steady flow. Service was patchy but it takes time when some where is new but I’d be happy to return.

An absolutely sensational experience for the entire family. Wonderful presentation, dedicated service, elegant atmosphere and delicious food. We had family joining us from abroad and Richard in particular was very attentive, friendly and helpful from start to finish. A lovely team from the front of house, waiters/waitresses and manager. We felt very looked after and left with a full belly and happy hearts. Will definitely be coming back, keep up the fabulous work!

Was lucky enough to go to a pre opening lunch. Fantastic location, lovely decor and wonderful food. There is a nice covered balcony area too for the bar which would be great in the summer. Will definitely be back!

A friend and I were looking for something Chrimassy to do so went to the ROH for a Nutcracker tour and booked Cicoria for a pre tour lunch and so pleased we did. The location and building are fabulous and although heaving the scale and restaurant layout never felt cramped or too noisy. This stylish restaurant makes the most of the space and we had a great window table. There is also a fab roof terrace and bar too with great views over Covent Garden and the city. We had the set 3 course lunch menu which was excellent value with well balanced choices. The food was very good, well portioned and very tasty. The service was impeccable - friendly, considerate and attentive. Irrespective of seeing the ballet or opera I will go back for drinks or food and defo recommend.

4 of us have just had lunch at Cicoria and it was perfect. The food was gorgeous and staff excellent/faultless. All food great but the pork belly was especially delicious and the potatoes divine. Ambience perfect too. Tables well spaced and there are many little alcoves to sit in which are quite private. We were not rushed whatsoever and it was very relaxing.Really do not understand why anyone would give a negative comment re this restaurant. It was lovely being in the Opera house too. Thank you to all.

I was lucky enough to be invited by my Partners Daughter for lunch at this beautifully designed and located restaurant. I wasn’t even aware that you could eat in this amazing landmark. But wow what a performance the new “Cicoria” gives. Headed up by, in my view, the wonderful Angela Hartnett. The food like this atmospheric setting was exceptional. Wonderful antipasti selection complimented by a superb Gavi paved way for great selection of meat and fish main courses. We started with delicious homemade focaccia, peppery olive oil and marinated halibut. My Partners Daughter had the fish stew, which she said was exceptional and filling. I had sea bass with lentils, which was delicious. The staff are attentive yet subtle and our lunch was rounded off with coffee on the terrace, which enjoys stunning views across Covent Garden, the perfect end to a memorable lunch. Great food, elegantly designed interior and welcoming staff - a great find and highly recommend.
