Although the gentleman who served us was INCREDIBLY sweet, we just didn’t love the food. Chicken had a good crisp but had no flavour. Spuds were soggy and tasteless. We were offered no sauces. Floor inside is covered in grease. Total hazard situation. Small free parking lot.

Fryer Tuck’s is one of those places that looks like it’s been here since before Beaverton Hillsdale Highway was paved, and I mean that in the best possible way. We’d been tired of the usual fast-food suspects and this spot had been on our list forever. Reddit came through when I asked for fried chicken ideas in Southwest Portland—Fryer Tuck’s popped up again and again, like a deep-fried beacon of hope. Finding it is a bit of an Oregon Trail side quest. You’ll hit a weird intersection, take a turn that feels slightly illegal, and suddenly you’re staring at two doors—one says Cider Mill, one says Fryer Tuck’s. Choose wisely, traveler. We went in through the Fryer Tuck’s side and were greeted by an interior that’s part gritty dive, part family relic, part “I bet Anthony Bourdain would have loved this joint.” The fixtures are old, the front counter is clean-ish but not gleaming, and you get the sense that the kitchen has seen a few decades of hot oil and good stories. I won’t lie, I did have a fleeting “how’s that health score looking?” moment, but the smell of fried chicken overruled my hesitation. We both ordered the chicken strip sandwiches with fries, because apparently we were in a carb-forward mood. When the food came out, each box weighed roughly the same as a bowling ball. As we walked to the car, I heard my husband mutter, “This better be worth the price.” Spoiler alert: it was. Easily. Maybe even double that, if we’re going by square inch and poundage. We opened the boxes to find sandwiches bursting with enough meat to rebuild a chicken. The fries were legit—crispy, salty, endless. The chicken itself had great flavor and seasoning, but was cooked just a touch too long, making it a bit dry. My sandwich needed mayo or some other kind of food lube to smooth things out. Still, that first bite? Fantastic. Next time, we’ll skip the bread and lettuce (which killed some of the crunch) and order a single meal to split. That’s saying something, because we don’t normally split meals. Fryer Tuck’s is generous like a grandma who doesn’t understand portion control, and the value for what you get is outstanding. Would I go back? Yeah, absolutely—but next time I’m eating inside so I can admire the 6-foot-tall Sasquatch statue guarding the bar. Fryer Tuck’s is the kind of place where the food outweighs the flaws—literally—and if you can embrace a little grit with your gravy, it’s worth the stop.

I love Fryer Tucks and have been eating here since I was younger and my dad would bring chicken home. The chicken and potatoes have always been the best but they do so much good food. You cant go wrong eating here! The bar has awesome service too. I highly recommend both!

This place was great. Kids allowed till 9. Delicious chicken, amazing staff. Clean and friendly. We had a party of 15. There was one bartender/server working and she killed it!

I went here because I had an hour to kill in the area before a meeting. This place is exactly the kind of aesthetic I look for in a homey dive bar. It's very cozy yet packed with all sorts of entertainment potential. They have pictures hanging on every inch of the wooden walls a few fire places. It feels like a cabin in the woods. I went to the to-go part of the restaurant first, it being my first time there and this was where the kitchen with all the chicken is. The man at the counter told me I could order from the lounge and to sit anywhere. I sat at the bar with a view of behind the bar area and saw many taps and a wide selection of liquor. Once the server, Mercedes, was not busy she promptly came over to me and took my order; I knew what I wanted. She told me it would be about a 15min wait, which I was fine with. It's nice to have that information! There were patrons entering every few minutes and she would ask them, "would you like your regular?" Which I love in a home base. She knew everyone and was a very kind host. This is a place you can feel you belong after becoming a regular. The food came out and it was delicious. It was prepared by people who care about quality bar food, and they deliver. I would love to come back time and time again, and would recommend anyone to check it out if you are looking for a brief respite from the busy city.

I don't know if this place has always been a bar, probably. I just remember it was supposed to have the best fried chicken in Portland. That was many years ago. The place is divey (not a bad thing, just something to know going in) and clearly beloved by the locals. The bartender does everything and knows the locals by name. For a neighborhood hang, I can understand the appeal. For a destination, it's just ok. The wings were fine, the blue cheese was good, the fried chicken was fine, a bit underwhelming flavor-wise, the JoJo's were huge, so thick they were lava on the outside and stiff in the middle. It's all freshly fried, so that's a plus.

First timer here. Popped in for lunch on a Wednesday and this place is the real deal. No pretense, all execution. Chicken was incredible and the jojos were the best I’ve ever had. What a “dive” bar should be! Can’t wait to return for an evening visit.

I was thinking about chicken, yes fried chicken. I'm a real fan of southern fried chicken and I noticed that I had a place right down the road that serves it. My curiosity for reviews led me for a quick read on my Yelp app and I discovered that the reviews weren't so great but I had to find out for myself. Stopped in and was delighted with the atmosphere and prompt service. I ordered 2 huge thighs, took a bite and said WoW! It was great and I can't believe it took me so long to discover this place! I'm definitely coming back here!

I brought a friend to pick up food. I had not consumed any alcohol and was denied service because my friend was too drunk. I was denied before the bartender Corrine even bothered to speak with me. I will remember this the next time I order food and will go to KFC instead, where they don't judge me.

2 piece chicken and 2 drinks of your choice is a decent deal. Order food before 8:30pm for best quality. Don't forget to ask for ketchup.

You want old school chicken? You want no frills, just good cooking food? Then this is the place for you. They don't fry a bunch of chicken, and then have it sitting under warming lamps all day, they freshly fry it when you order it. Crispy, crunchy, tasty chicken. Plain and simple. Big chunks of potatoes, golden fried as well. Dill sauce that pares well with the chicken and potatoes. This isn't chicken fusion food. This isn't wine-sipping food. This is a 32oz Rainier beer, get my more napkins, burn your fingers and mouth because it's so hot, kinda place. Where the drinks are made strong, the food is classic, the servers are friendly, kinda place. So, order a drink, and sit back and wait for awesome chicken and potatoes!

This chicken has been wonderful, and unchanged for over 50 years. There's a reason people love it. And com if possible, the JoJo buds might be even more popular. These fresh, Oregon firyers and no chemicals.

Can't speak to eating at the location as we just ordered to go and this place closely falls between a 3.5-4 stars but I rounded up just due to the massive portion sizes! Be sure to order ahead if you can since the wait can be 20-25 mins since they make the chicken fresh to order and if you want to avoid wait times. We ended up waiting in our car since it was raining, but there is an outdoor area and on a Friday night the Cider Mill restaurant next door seemed to have outdoor karaoke if you want to kill time. Menu is pretty standard with chicken wings, tenders, meals, and sides from fries, mozzarella sticks, etc. We opted to get the Dinner for 2 (1/2 chicken to go) and it came with chicken, french fries, slaw, and dinner rolls ($18). We added a size of mozzarella sticks for $7.25. After 20 mins we got the box and it was MASSIVE. The box was like a small sized amazon box for delivery and was a custom box made for the restaurant (super cool). Everything is just included in one box vs. separated out which made it easy to carry. As for the food + Chicken (3.5/5) - The chicken pieces were nicely portioned and had a nice crunch. The batter was cooked all the way through and wasn't too thick. I probably would have preferred some additional seasoning on it. + Spuds (3.5/5) - The spuds are thick cut fries (think steak fries) and were plenty to an order. They were fresh and had a nice flavor but I would have just fried them a bit longer as I enjoy super crispy fries. They're nice for a texture contrast to the chicken crunch though. + Mozzarella Sticks (3.5/5) - They come 8 to an order so easy to share. The marinara sauce was simple but went well since the mozzarella sticks coating had a nice flavor and crunch. Plenty of cheese but would have preferred a smaller ratio for the cheese to coating. _________ Overall, the dinner for 2 is a pretty solid option if you're craving fried chicken and portions that will last you 1-2 meals. I think the size and flavors definitely justified the price and made the visit worth it, but I would like to try other fried chicken restaurants before making this my go-to option in the area.

UP until around 2012, it was a great place for fried chicken. Something happened to the quality of food prepared and we stopped. Yesterday we thought we'd try again since the parking lots appeared always full! Unfortunately, we were disappointed! The 'spuds' were half cooked and the frying oil tasted old. The fried chicken itself lacked flavor and salt. It's had to find good fried chicken on the west side!!!

The spuds and spuds sauce are out of this world! Yes, Bar has a great down-home feel.

We went in a rush trying to get some good chicken for my grandmothers birthday celebration, and we didn't have cash on us but the server was very understanding and kind enough to start making the food while we ran out to get some cash. When we got back it didn't take long and we got the food, it was very good. The place is connected to a bar but very clean and well maintained and overall a great place to get your chicken. Highly recommend it.

Very very bad chicken!! Remember the old Fryer Tucks chicken from years ago had its own unique great flavor, which was excellent ! but this chicken at this, Fryer Tucks was dry overcooked greasy, and the flavor was not good ! Which was sad because I was looking forward to the original Fryer Tucks chicken

I have been going to this restaurant since 1971. It used to be in a little tiny building in Beaverton. This is the very best place to eat chicken hearts, spuds, enjoy the customers and the employees I have ever visited. I do enjoy the fried chicken, however when I visit, I treat myself to something extra special which is always the chicken hearts. I have never been disappointed in their customer service or food in over 50 years!

Right when my friend came in, the bartender with the glasses instantly stopped and 86ed my friend who has a mental illness. When we came in for food, she brought her service dog that's trained for her mental illnesses and the bar tender with the glasses accused her of and argued with her that her service dog was a pet and was asking questions about her disabilities, that's AGAINST the law, my friend spoke up as she showed her card that stated the law about service animals and what you are allowed to ask but the damage of her being singled out was already done, we were allowed in and went to sit on the back porch. I noticed my friend started to go in to a panic attack over the bar tenders actions so I suggested we leave , she went out to the car and I went to the bathroom When I came out of the bathroom I approached the bar tender to speak with her calmly about why we are not eating there and expressed what she did was wrong, she was quick to cut me off mid conversation and did not accept what she did was wrong an persisted to play victim against what she said to my friend, and insisted another bar patron butted in the conversation and was very rude and agressive with his comments It's sad that a establishment with such great food is going to continue to employ a individual that has such a arrogant overlook to individuals with mental illness an there service animals, to continue to employ someone with such a disregard without action is Riduculious Hire better employees seriously!!!

First and last visit to this restaurant. Ordered take-out at 9:30pm and was told to pick up at 10:00pm. I ordered a family meal, $40Meal comes with a whole chicken, spuds, coleslaw, baked beans, dinner rolls. I've eaten/cooked lots of fried chicken and sides. The chicken was so dry, even the dark meat. It was horrible. Being accustomed to great fried chicken, no one wanted to eat it. The skin was nice and crispy, rightfully so since the skin chicken was way over cooked. Spuds (probably 3lbs) were very good. Dinner roll was delicious. The coleslaw was okay, except the container was so small, no way it could serve four. TvThe beans were basically a blackstrap molasses paste. It was hard the pot was scraped. As far as I'm concerned, I spent $40 cash for four dinner rolls . I wish I'd used my credit card, as I would so want to be challenging the purchase.

I have been eating here since the early '70's. The chicken is great the jo-jos even better! Beer is cold if you are eating in but everybody takes it home. The only critique I would throw out is that they used to have dinosaur chicken. Biggest breasts and thighs (the chickens! folks, clean up your minds) you have ever seen. Now it is more normal sized but the same great taste and tenderness. Warning! Everything here is fried in deep fat in a pressure cooker. If you don't like deep fried, Stay Away. Make more room for me.

I have wanted to try Fryer Tuck Chicken ever since it was in this location. Once upon a time, before the really big fast food chicken restaurants, there was Fryer Tuck Chicken. One on the westside and one on the eastside. Once several years ago when I was close I decided to pass because the place was packed and there wasn't any available parking. This afternoon there was and since I was in the neighborhood I thought I would like to try it. It's good freshly cooked chicken! Beyond that, it's bland and has almost no taste. The spuds are actually JoJo potatoes that come with a dill dipping sauce. They're good but there are too many of them. I would like to see a smaller portion size with an option to get Cole Slaw or Mac and cheese. I tried the three piece and subbed a chicken breast in place of a wing for $1 additional charge. So there was a thigh, drumstick and breast with the potatoes. It's really good chicken, it just lacks flavor and it is for that reason I can give no more than three stars. It was just okay, nothing really that special.

I was so excited about going to Fryer Tuck Chicken. I haven't been there for about 35 years. It used to be so good. This time I went and it was the worst chicken I have ever had. There was no flavor and the prices were really high. I should have left when I got there because the place was filthy. My first clue should have been that on a Friday night and nobody was there ordering chicken. I will never go again!

I was very excited to revisit The Cider Mill/Fryer Tuck after moving back to the neighborhood and it didn't disappoint. Not only is it some of the best fried chicken and JoJo's in the city, it's a good size portion and inexpensive. It's just as good as Reel M Inn but different as it's traditional fried chicken, not broasted. As for the JoJo potatoes, they have the perfect amount of crust to them and were still crispy the next day leftover. I wish they offered more sauce options as I'm a fan of honey mustard and Frank's Red hot however I never asked. Simply put, Fryer Tuck's is hands down the best bang for your buck in Portland (I've had them all)

Been coming here for over 20 years... the chicken is so juicy, but it's the potato wedges & Dip for me!! IYKYK

After speaking to some long time residents we decided to forgo our quarterly KFC and grab some Fryer Tuck. The chicken was fine, the sides were blan and the jojo's were plentiful. We ordered the family of four meal with baked beans and coleslaw. The meal came with a massive amount of jojo's, enough for a family of 10, one full chicken (and we added 4 extra thighs). However, the sides were kind of a joke. The serving size of the coleslaw and beans were enough for one. Thankful they were not very good so we didn't need more. ‍ I wouldn't necessarily go here again as it was just ok, but if I was close to the area and needed a fried chicken, Fryer Tuck would satisfy that craving.

Can't speak to the vibe as I've not eaten in, but have had their fried chicken dinners a few times. The name just sounds delicious and my mouth is watering as I write this and wait for my order. I eat fried chicken pretty rarely, maybe 1-2x/year. Just don't crave it. But when I do, I want the hot-crispy-tender trifecta that Fryer Tuck's nails. Perfectly seasoned and juicy. Their sides are on-par with the chicken: extra creamy potato salad, sweet and smoky BBQ beans, and crispy, thick jojos with homemade ranch dip. Mmm. Very reasonable prices/portions.

Just avoid this place. Item comes with French fries, and then they charged an ADDITIONAL $1 EACH for ketchup and mustard. If you have to charge $1 for ketchup, just close.

They do not honor their prices that they have online. You would think businesses would keep up on things that they put out they don't. When you go in to order chicken, there is a rank smell coming from the kitchen like rotten food who wants to eat there anyway clean it up

I was so hoping after seeing the old pictures I posted years ago have their spuds and little John dip. Ordered it last week and was very disappointed. I guess some things only last in our memories.

The chicken was really good at Fryer Tucks. Honestly the best fried chicken I have had in the northwest. Only reason it's not 5 stars is because the place (bar next to it where you eat)is pretty dingy/dirty. They didn't have livers when I went so I didn't get to try those.

I had the opportunity to have an evening out with my 11 year old son tonight... We stopped at Fryer Tuck.... Nora and Jessica were on staff and went above and beyond to make things wonderful!..... we shared great conversation and delicious food. It's a memory I'll always cherish. I'll definitely be back again soon to enjoy the giant/delicious portions and wonderful staff! I couldn't be happier.... Thank You Nora & Jessica!

Stopped in for a beer and directions, buddy and I were searching for a seafood market but had gotten bad info. Why even bring that up? Because the bar staff and the customers all pitched in to help solve the fishy mystery. Fun place, friendly, and we had some great chicken tender appetizers.

This place is awesome. Nothing but good food, good entertainment, my new place to go. No disappointments.

Once you try the fried chicken, fries with that dill dip, you quickly understand why everyday this place is busy!!! The food is made fresh to order, so expect to wait a little longer than usual. But a couple of their "heavy pour" drinks and you won't even notice the wait

Always on a quest searching for great fried chicken, a business acquantance recommended Fryer Tuck's. I had high hopes. First time in. It will be my last. The atmosphere is somewhat divey. Total bar scene. Since I don't drink, I decided to sit in the "lobby" and wait for my small takeout order. Twenty minutes minimum as stated on a prominent sign, although my order came out well under that. The "lobby" is small, cramped, and not comfortable. The big turn-off for me was the service. The person running the counter was not particularly presentable and his attitude less than enthusiastic. When not taking orders, he washes dishes in full view of the customer (me). He did thank me when he presented my order and was not at all abrasive or unpleasant. Just lacking an enthusiastic or engaging attitude. Paying customers notice, and it counts. The kitchen had to confirm my order twice with him. Since my order did not include sides, I cannot comment on those. However, the target of my visit - the fried chicken - was fair. It had a mild burnt taste to it and I believe was cooked too hot, as the inside was fine. For a full fried chicken and standard sides, they charge a whopping $29. That's on the rich side in my opinion. All said and done, I cannot recommend Fryer Tuck's unless you are looking for a serious dive-bar experience with no regard for food. Not my scene, and I will not be back.

Chicken and jojos. Rolled up on a sunny Tuesday night for the delicious to-go box of some fried treats. Order of 1/2 chicken (we subbed another breast for the drumstick) was plenty of food for two people!! Mac salad is pretty good but I'm not a fan of the black olives in it. The jojos / potato wedges / whatever they're called are amazing.... crusty and fried heaven. The 1/2 order of chicken comes with an obscene amount of 'taters but I wasn't complaining. FYI this is old school fried chicken, gut bomb, gluttony of grease. Grew up coming here and was hoping it was what I had remembered.... and it certainly was. YUM

I ate there for lunch and had a chicken sandwich. That evening my stomach started feeling kinda weird. It has now been a week of diarrhea and vomiting. This was the last place I ate when I started getting sick. The chicken honestly tasted really good. But I would not recommend eating there.

My g/f and I came here to eat. As we stepped in the front door we were immediately barked at by the female SJW millennial bartender. We were ordered not to bring in our to go coffee even though we were not sitting at the bar. If that weren't bad enough the whole restaurant literally wreaked of an abused bathroom that had never been cleaned. Will never return here.

The online menu is completely outdated and under priced so beware , 14.00 upgrade when we ordered at the restaurant compared to online prices. Save your money by cooking and eating your own chicken at home , you'll do yourself a favor. Tossing the leftovers and trying to rinse the grease from my lips. NEVER EATING HERE AGAIN !!!

I enjoy a good dive bar and fried chicken on occasion. I reviewed this place 3 years ago after a bad experience...the food was not very good...however I decided to give it another try since I was in the area and craving fried chicken. The chicken was great cooked perfectly! The coleslaw was also good. The service was friendly and efficient.

I wasn't sure quite what to expect from this quaint little place, and it's much less of a restaurant and more of a bar than I had guessed. However, this didn't take away from the quality of the food, let alone the service. We seated ourselves and within a few minutes we were asked for our drink order, and we ordered our food at the same time. The beer was cold and the Long Island was mixed well. There was a bit of a wait for the fried chicken, but the server was kind enough to make us aware so we weren't left hanging. We ok'd the wait, because why come to a place famous for their chicken and not get their chicken right? Unsure of the portion sizes and seeing as how I was so hungry I could eat a horse, we opted for the chicken dinner for 4. Big mistake... Or was it a big blessing? We now have enough chicken, jojos, Cole slaw and potato salad for both lunch and dinner tomorrow as well. The portions were generous and none of it was soggy or covered in grease, which was a pleasant surprise. Our meal was brought out in a large "tub" which had enough room for all of our grub, and realistically with the amount of food it was the only logical choice for a dish. We dug in and were greeted by moist and tender chicken with good flavor. The potato salad and Cole slaw were equally tasty. We ate what we could, and boxed up the rest. There was just no way we could finish that much chow. We will definitely be returning for more of their chicken, although next time we may remember how huge their serving sizes are. Great job all around from start to finish!

Fryer Tuck has been well-known in Portland for their fried chicken for years. Everything is made to order and they let you know that it will take about twenty minutes for the food to be ready. Your reward for waiting is fresh and moist fried chicken with a wonderful crispy coating. Very good! The actual Fryer Tuck location is a take-out counter (you can call in your to-go order ahead of time), but if you want to eat it there, you would go into the attached Cider Mill Restaurant where they serve food from Fryer Tuck's menu. In addition to their excellent chicken, their big JoJo-style potato wedges are awesome too. . .perfect accompaniment to fried chicken. If you have a choice of anywhere (unpretentious) to go for fried chicken, this is the place.

Good food in a dated dive bar setting. The food was great, the service and wait wasn't.

I love this place. Think upscale dive bar with amazing food and great drinks. After my first time there, I told ALL of my friends about it. Hell I even told my dog about it. That jealous bastard tried to bite me he was so mad. It's a bit of a trek to get there from Salem, but well worth it. When they say it's going to take 20 minutes for your chicken, they mean it. If you want fast chicken, go to KFC or Popeyes and then spend 20 minutes on the toilet plus an additional hour buying new pants and underwear because you sharted. The crowd is a great mix of younger folks, people who retired just before WW1 and everyone in between.

This place is RAD. Nice back patio area. And best chicken in town! I forgot about Cider Mill Bar, definitely coming back here to hang out. Nice and clean too!

Three is about right. A great dive bar though. And nowhere you'd expect such to be. This area of Portland is kinda hoytee toytee. (Upper middle class). But this is your down to earth place. I come here for the chicken and jo Jo's. The chicken is usually way overcooked but the dill sauce and jo Jo's are awesome. Sides are all good too. Pull the chicken a bit sooner and it would be awesome too. Restroom kinda not very fancy either. Definitely fits the vibe. You should check it out.

We go there for the spuds. Comfort food at its best. Freshly dropped in flower and friend to perfection. You haven't lived until you carry out a big box of spuds.

We got the 4 person chicken meal. The best part were the buttered rolls. Yummmmmmmm. The chicken was pretty good but the meat itself could use seasoning/salt though the breading was very good. The spuds were just okay but very bland and proly could be cooked a few more mins. We were not a fan of the beans and their ranch was very heavy with the dill. What the dill with the dill? May be a while before we return. Also note that the cashier was super nice

Came thru on a rainy Saturday with six adults and 2 kids under 8. Our hostess/bartender Shannon was amazing. She took our orders, both drinks and food, without writing down a thing but got everything perfect. The drinks were cheap and strong; food portions good and fair price. Good special today- Chicken and waffles $9. Slot machines by the bar, which was a nice surprise for a California guy like myself. Had a chicken wrap, 2 cocktails and tater tots, for about $20. Got a round of Jameson's for six adults-large pours for about $5 each. Again, Shannon was the best and took great care of us. Quick tip- if getting chicken, order the three piece snack basket. It's only a dollar more than than the two piece and you'll be glad you did!

I'm really not sure why this place isn't getting higher ratings as I have eaten here several times and the food is amazing. I don't think I've ever had better fried chicken in my life. That being said, if you are going on a Friday or Saturday night expect a wait for a table so get there early! Also, they have to-go orders lined up for people picking up food. I love the cozy and casual atmosphere and the service has been great. The last server was very knowledgeable about the menu items and helped me to decide between two dishes with her descriptions of the items. Overall a great place and when I want the BEST FRIED CHICKEN in Portland, this is THE PLACE.

I had heard so many good things about this place and such poor reviews of the service. My experience was quite the opposite. The bartender was very informative about the restaurant and it's history. She was attentive and friendly. The coleslaw was just ok, the tater fries were another highlight! Not cut too thick and not too greasy. The dill sausage was really great too! Now on to the 'not so great'. The chicken. The breading tasted burnt/over cooked. I scraped it off and the chicken pieces were great, but they are known for the fried chicken not roasted. Hopefully this was a one time bad experience. The other pluses are enough to make me want to try again!

Great experience. Came with a group of 6 adults and 5 kiddos. Shannon was wonderful. She was very friendly and put up with our big group. Waited a while for our food but it was worth it. Great food and great service all around.

Not impressed. We got the "dinner for two" which came with 4 pieces of chicken - juicy and good, but not really enough. Most of the giant box of food we got was the "spuds" - an ENORMOUS portion of potato wedges, *battered*. They were not great. It came with one side only, some undercooked baked beans. And one small container of sauce. $16.50 is a bit of a rip off for that. Too many potatoes, not enough chicken. And not enough flavor.... Everything was a bit bland. Won't return.

The food looked so good! Unfortunately, that was the best part of the experience. Everything was consistently under-seasoned and tasted mildly burned- like maybe oll oil. Not worth the money or the calories.
