Ciel Bleu

"Ciel Bleu immediately lives up to its name. Here, you dine on the top floor of the luxurious Okura Hotel with a spectacular view of the blue sky and the Amsterdam skyline as a backdrop. The modern elegance of the restaurant and the superlative presentation of the dishes are equally pleasing to the eye.Arjan Speelman's cuisine is technically accomplished, creative and laced with international influences and seasonings. This chef effortlessly combines a classic beurre blanc with exotic spices and ingredients from around the globe. Every detail is precise, every bite a surprise. A nice touch: with each course, a herb in its original form is brought to the table – this herb will be featured in the next dish.Dining at Ciel Bleu is intriguing. You will be served by one of the best front-of-house teams in the country, starring sommelier Noël Vanwittenbergh and maître d' Francesco Simonelli. The sky really is the limit here!" - Michelin Inspector

2 Michelin-Star ⭐️ ⭐️ Fine Dining In The Sky at Ciel Bleu, nestled within luxurious Hotel Okura Amsterdam 🇳🇱 From exquisite lobster and Wagyu A5 to the perfect wine pairings, every moment was exceptional. And the sunset view from the highest floor, with a glass of Krug Champagne 170ème Édition, was simply spectacular. A truly unforgettable culinary journey! ❤️

We had a wonderful dinner! We were here on a special occasion a collab with De Threeswijkhoeve and Ciel Blue also in combination with Brut champagne! From the moment you arrive it is a warm welcome and a great service. The Madam of Brut Champagne gave us a warm welcome with some nice story about the start of Brut. This was amazing to know that the family started as a butcher family. After a nice glass of champagne in the lounge we went to our table. The interior is classic and robust. The chairs are very comfortable. Every dish looked amazing and the taste of it was wonderful. Something we never had experience this good. We had a pairing Champagne arrangement and it was so nice to be able to have a taste of all these delicious amazing Champagnes of Brut. The service was next level good. Everyone made you feel at home and have a chat with you. They were easygoing but really professional. A cherry on the pie was a walk through the kitchen. Were we met the chefs. The evening was full of surprises and laughter. You can easy park at the Okura hotel. And the guidance to the restaurant is very welcome. This is really an experience that you should try! Thanks to everyone to make this wonderful evening extra special!

Ciel Bleu was on top of our list of michelin restaurants to try. The reception was extremely welcoming, the staff inmediately made a favourable impression with the way they welcomed us as guests. We were seated at a window table. Due to the special occasion of our visit I had specifically requested this seating and I was thrilled Ciel Bleu had accomodated my request. I chose the prestige 8 course menu, and my wife chose the 8 course vegetarian menu. As a starter I also chose the beluga caviar, which was incredibly tasty, it really is the best caviar there is quality wise. It was served in a beautiful way and the presentation of the caviar was interesting and educational. The food was good, but we didnt think it was exceptional. There were some memorable dishes such as the bluefin with caviar and the lobster with a truly delicious passion berry sauce. Other dishes did not make such a big impression. For instance the wagyu a5 dish was served with a very strong aleppo pepper sauce that dominated the whole dish and veiled the other tastes. What also was a bit of a disappointment was the fact that my wifes "vegetarian menu" dishes sometimes consisted of the same ingredients of my meat and fish dishes but than simply without the meat and fish...I feel this was a missed chance and it came across as a bit lazy. Ciel Bleu please consider making a vegetarian tasting menu that consists of original and special dishes , for a restaurant of this caliber I really expect creativity. What we absolutely loved of Ciel Bleu was the truly incredible service. The staff was on top of their game. Friendly and professional. Not overbearing but warm and knowledgeable. We were treated like royalty and the remarkable service paired with the incredible view made for a memorable evening, a perfect high class night out with spectacular views.

Google
Consistently delivering the epitome of all aspects of fine dining from food, presentation, service, and wine to attention to detail. The prestige and caviar experience menus provide the best opportunity to try all of the chefs signature dishes, all of which are executed to perfection. One of the best parts of the menu design is that you get such a variety of flavors and textures in each plate. Standouts were the red mullet, the Toro, the "mer fruits", the lobster and the wagyu. If you go with the caviar experience each of the already opulent dishes is taken to another level with a pairing of caviar which complements the dish perfectly. Over the course of the dinner you end up trying at least five types of caviar. The wine list is formidable and the sommelier has the knowledge to help you make the best choices for your palate to complement the flavors. I have had both one of my all time favorite red and white wines on different visits here. The multilingual staff are extremely attentive and make sure you and your gusts have a truly special experience. If you are celebrating something special, this is really the place to do it in Amsterdam as the view provides a amazing sunset view of the city from the 23rd floor of the okura. You get to see the sunset over the whole city all the way to nord.

We had a wonderful dinner for my girlfriend’s birthday, and everything was absolutely superb. The staff was fantastic, the food was delicious, and the wine pairings were perfect. We especially want to highlight the skill and professionalism of the maître d’, who was always present on the floor, personally attending to each table. Compliments to the entire team for an amazing experience!!

A few months ago, I had the pleasure of dining at Ciel Bleu and the experience has stayed with me. The service was exceptionally attentive; the staff took the time to explain each dish with great care and precision, adding a special touch to the culinary experience. The creativity in the presentation of the dishes was impressive (see attached photos). Each plate was a work of art, not only visually appealing but also inviting to taste. The balance and surprise of flavors showcased true craftsmanship and passion in the kitchen. Ciel Bleu is a restaurant where both service and cuisine are at an outstanding level. It is a must-visit for anyone seeking a unique culinary experience. I will definitely come back soon to celebrate my birthday there.

Once in a lifetime experience! What excellent flavor combinations in each dish and with each wine. Superb service and the view over Amsterdam is breathtaking. It doesn’t get any better than this!

***A dining experience that takes you around the world*** The chef, inspired by traveling to various destinations around the world creates dishes centered around a key ingredient from the that country. The meal was very innovative and bold in flavors. The service staff were very attentive and friendly. The restaurant is a large open space with comfortable seating and a lovely view. I would gladly come to make a visit again. Visit: 1

Yelp
This was an excellent 2 star Michelin restaurant! Came with a reservation and service was fantastic. Timing of dishes was 10/10 with a good pace and synchrony - total time for a 6 course menu was about 2.5 hours. Restaurant has a private feel on the top floor - not too big but not small either. There were plenty of waiters to keep the flow going and it was a pleasure watching them work and work hard. The wine list was extensive. I will attach a few pictures (not all of them as I took too many) and not name them as it is more about the taste and the experience. Each dish has unique ingredients and especially how they mix and interplay. Presentation was excellent. I had the 6 dish menu which I highly recommend (they have a 8 dish menu also). Overall, I highly recommend this experience and you are looking for a Michelin restaurant.

Yelp
We enjoy splurging on dining experiences when traveling internationally. My husband and I mutually decided this was a top 5 dining experience of our entire lives and the top dining experience we've had in Europe so far. From the moment we were seated until the last bite, the execution, service and energy was flawless. We were there for over 5+ hours, enjoyed the most decadent caviar, wine and top tier course after course. We visited last summer and 9 months later we talk about this experience frequently. The staff was incredible - they took their time educated us on each course, answered questions we had and made perfect recommendations. Now let's describe the view. WOW WOW WOW. We had an unobstructed view of the entire city to sea. The name of the restaurant is fitting as it means Blue Sky and I still dream about how perfectly the sun set while we were eating and the mood it created. The cost is high, 2 Michelin star high- BUT if you are in Amsterdam, or planning to go, start saving and budgeting for a meal like this! We have ZERO regrets and will go back again. The pictures do not reflect every course as we were trying to be present during the meal. But notice the change in the sky as the meal progresses. Thank you to ALL the staff, the chef and team-it was unforgettable.

Yelp
@ciel_bleu_restaurant Perched on the 23rd floor of@hotel_okura_amsterdam French restaurant with two Michelin stars in #amsterdam Most memorable for me was the tuna tartare served in the spine of the tuna!!! Imaginative and creative. One of the best tuna tartare l've had. Also, the venison was outstanding. The chocolate desert was dressed like a crown of thorns. Service was friendly and professional without overbearing. Truly a bucket list culinary destination.

Yelp
Service was amazing. Food is good - I recommend the wine pairing with the prefix menu. Ambiance is modern and decor is clean. We had a great time at the dinner and loved our time there. The staff did not rush us thru courses and made conversation appropriately throughout dinner. Wonderful place - definitely recommend.

Yelp
I've always been a fan, but WORST EXPERIENCE ever. Waitress didn't help, Mgr was worse. Until I speak to the owners to explain how horrid this experience was, I will continue to tell everyone real life and social how horrific this night was.

Yelp
I've never spent so much money to feel hungry. The view is great, the service is great, and the presentation is fantastic. The bread, handmade butter, and desert, were fantastic. But beyond that there was a lot more show in this place than substance. 3 of the 5 courses were not tasty to me. I left feeling hungry. Paying this much for a meal was a significant splurge for us, far beyond what we've ever paid, and the food was not far beyond what we've ever experienced.

Yelp
You know it's Michelin star service when you see the elevator attendant calling the elevator as you walk through the front door. You know it's excellent service when your coats are whisked away, you're led to a beautiful lounge overlooking the city, you have impeccably timed beverages and appetizers, and you're led to your table after an appropriate amount of time marveling at the night skyline in Amsterdam. The service was part choreography, part educational, and 100% on point and perfect. This was all around an amazing experience with impeccable timing to provide the maximum amount of joy and pleasure out of the experience. Definitely a treat, definitely worth a visit if you're able to. Truly one of the best meals I had in Amsterdam, and truly one of the most enjoyable food experiences I've had (and I'm spoiled living in Chicago).

Yelp
Gorgeous views from the 23rd floor - our table was positioned just by the huge windows for maximum enjoyment. The menu included 16 inventive, gorgeously-plated, and delicious courses. By the end, I was absolutely stuffed (I should have held off on the bread and butter, but it was just too good -- 4 different uniquely-flavored butter choices with the freshly-baked bread!!) The pace was a bit slower than we would have liked (we had another similar 16-course-meal at a Michelin-starred restaurant earlier that week, and I feel like that one was perfectly timed, whereas this one gave us longer breaks between courses). We asked the servers to pace the courses a bit faster and they sped up - and our meal was still 4+ hours with the faster pace!

Yelp
Food was amazing. We were a party of four and went with the light version of the tasting menu; the whole dinner took 5 hours. Started off with some appetizers paired with champion in the lounge area near the entrance of the restaurant where you could see this gorgeous view of the Amsterdam city from the 23rd floor. I literally enjoyed every single one of the course and all of them were full of surprise and complex mix of different tastes and textures which worked out magically well. If I have to pick a favorite, it was Onno Kokmeijer - the signature dish. Wine pairing portions were generous enough for two people to share. Service overall was solid as you would have expected from a Michelin 2 stars restaurant. Inner decor and layout was classic. The table we got was by the window, nice setting by itself with an awesome view but itsort of facing towards a side opening of the kitchen (although quite distant) and I found it a bit distracting to see people going in and out.

Yelp
What a treat to be able to come here! My husband and I were on a holiday here, and we thought why not? Life is too short and tomorrow we might get hit by a ten ton truck, as Morrissey sang in his "There is a light that never goes out". So on this holiday we decided to live it up and pretended we were the top one percenter. From the moment we stepped out of the elevator to the moment we bidded farewell to the hosts, service was unmatchable to anything we've ever encountered. The host asked if we wanted to start our evening in their beautiful lounge, or go directly to their elegant dining room. We opted for the lounge and took in the amazing view of Amsterdam. Once we were settled, we then were given the option of wine, champagne, or beer for our introductory beverages. Both my husband and I chose champagne. Then came the "Bites". An array of interesting looking appetizers, 4 or 5 of them in timely intervals. They were indeed a prelude to a memorable evening. A couple of reviewers mentioned a 5 hour service, and so we were expecting to spend the entire night at Ciel Bleu. We did not. However, we were there for a little over 3 hours, which was comparable to 2 other Michelin restaurants we've gone to in the past. We did the tasting menu along with wine pairing. If you are a light weight, be warned. Once you get into the entree part of this tasting menu, each dish will be paired with wine. I believe there were 8 (perhaps 9) after the bites in the lounge. It was one exquisite dish after another. The artistic talent of the chefs here are commendable. I upgraded mine to Japanese Wagyu Kagoshima for the signature dish while my husband stayed with the lamb. I've never had it before, but I do remember seeing why this particular beef is so coveted. Apparently these certain cows get special treatments such as daily massages while the rest of the cows look on with envy. Well I can tell you that those massages really made the most tender steak I've ever eaten in my life. It was as tender as moisted butter. Was it worth the upgrade for such a tiny portion? Honestly no, but what a delicious experience it was. Been there, done that. No regrets. A hefty transaction on our credit card statement, but no regrets. I was tempted to take some pictures, but they have a little plaque on every table in the dining room with no cell phone please. So I took a picture of that instead and enjoyed the Ciel Bleu experience to the fullest without having to snap photos when a new entree arrived.

Yelp
I had one of the best meals in my life here. Being in Amsterdam added to the experience and made it that much more memorable. Ciel Bleu is part of Hotel Okura on the 23rd floor so you can get a sweet view with their wide windows. It almost felt like Hotel Okura was one of the tallest buildings there. I loved how they were quick to offer two different types of olive oil immediately. It was almost like an olive oil tasting session since we were confused about the difference between the two. Anyway, from that point on I knew it was going to be a good experience. You can choose either a la carte or their set menus with four courses and they seem to be pretty flexible about switching out a course to something else. I switched out one of the items with a Chocolate Dome Foie Gras. Also not everyone at the table has to order the four course menu! But it's worth the money. The a la carte sizes are a bit bigger but you need to take advantage of the time you're there and try as many dishes as possible! Yes, the decoration and the setting felt a little older but the service was so detailed and every single one of my dishes plus all the chef's complimentary amuse bouches were unimaginably perfect and innovative (especially their deconstructed tom yam appetizer with the edible paper). I find it hard to believe that anyone would be unhappy with their experience here. Don't miss Ciel Bleu if you're on vacation in Amsterdam!!!! If you have the chance to stop by, do it!

Yelp
Ciel Bleu was amazing! My husband just closed a really big deal for work in Amsterdam so we decided to celebrate with a nice dinner! Ciel Bleu is a 2 Michelin Rated restaurant on the 23rd floor of Hotel Okura. The food was fresh, artistically plated, and uniquely paired together. The service was also incredible. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Sylvia A.

Yelp
This place was absolutely incredible. Food was amazing, service was amazing, view was amazing, and presentation of the food was phenomenal. Be sure to get the signature drink to start off your appetite! It's a quiet and the restaurant isn't massive so it feels cozy. The waiters and waitresses made us feel like we were the only guests and explained what all the food was and even how to eat it at times. You can choose from a 7 or 9 course menu and order some things a la carte. Expect to spend anywhere from 175 to 400 euros per person. Wonderful experience and one of a kind.

Yelp
Culinary Violence, Fantastic, Refined, Food Art, a real Dining Experience - a little selection of everything that comes up in my mind. The food, the ambiance, the staff, the wines, it all was amazing. I'm was and I'm still dazzled. Great flavours, great dishes and a sublime combination of food and wine. The staff was exceptionally good, professional and very friendly. One of the best restaurants I've eaten, with international allure. And do not forget the beautiful and very special view of Amsterdam from the 23rd floor of Hotel Okura Amsterdam.
google avatar

Preeti S.

Yelp
Truly lives upto its michelin stars. It's one of the best places in Amsterdam for a great dinner, amazing service and beautiful view of the city. The caviar is one of the specials of the place - make sure you try it out whilst there. There was so much of good stuff here - it's difficult to break it down. All I can say is that we spent 5 hours for our dinner and it was special in every which way - food, service, ambience and view.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
What a lovely place. Top two star kinda joint. Unlike the 2 or 3 star places in SF, they are a bit less casual here...which is nice. The dinner service started amazing in the lounge with little amuses (my favorite was a 'joint' of Tom Yum soup - herbs and things on rice paper that you roll and eat, don't light it!). Seated, the service and food became a bit more traditional french making us wish for the whimsical amuses more. But the very nice belgian sommelier kinda made it all work in the end.
google avatar

Reginald D.

Yelp
Great evening at Ciel Bleu to finish our gastronomic weekend in Amsterdam! Amazing view over the city - but ask a table close to the windows for that - super service and delicious food! Thank you to the chef and the staff for such a wonderful discovery

Yelp
This restaurant is located on the top of a high rise hotel on the outskirts of Amsterdam. From the time you enter the lobby and certainly when you are in the lounge or restaurant you feel like you have left Holland and entered another world. I could comment on the decorations but I'm reviewing a restaurant and you don't eat the carpet (usually). So, here goes. Out of control service. Our dishes were delivered by 4 white gloved servers (there were 4 of us) and the champagne glasses were never allowed to get empty until the bottles ran out - the 472 euro bottles of Cristal. We all elected to have the 4 course meal which consisted of the oddest assortment of choices I have ever seen. Basically you could have meat or meat or meat or fish with a mango dessert. They offset this by bringing us a series of "surprises" from the kitchen. Ultimately I think this was so you wouldn't leave there starving. Yes, after a 4 course meal you could easily leave there starving. The average dish was the size of a small dog's poo or smaller. I kept waiting for them to bring us our food but they actually delivered these large plates with a dollop or a shot glass full of fish ice cream or something along those lines and the vegetable portion consisted of a blade of grass or another green of equal proportion. As a restaurant I find this place to be hilarious. It is the most "out there" example of Nouveau Riche conspicuous consumption I have ever seen. When we ordered two servings of Louis XVIII Cognac (145 euros each) the server told us that their Russian guests often ordered this 2,000euro/bottle Cognac with Diet Coke. Yes, Nouveau Riche. Obviously they serve high quality wine, champagne, liquor and food but, really, the "food" portions were hilariously small. This morning I put a piece of toast with egg on it about 1" square on a 12" plate and offered to serve it to my hosts. I'm dead serious; this is what it was like. I will try and post a picture so you can see. Great view, stunning service and they serve a mean Martini in the lounge but if you really want a meal this is not the place. IF you want "the experience" then by all means, go there. It was all I could do to not guffaw the entire night. I had to do this once in my lifetime and now I have. 2,000 euros for 4 people and we left starving, uh, what's wrong with THAT picture. Here's my advice to the owners of Ciel Bleu: Add a Burger to your menu.
google avatar

PJ S.

Yelp
Give it five stars for creativity and quality. Subtract a star for the excessive, to the point of being annoying, service. Add a star for the view and ambiance. Subtract one star for the lack of heart, soul, je ne sait quoi and for the addiction to pretense. Result = 4 stars. Voila. Definitely try Ciel Bleu. Just do not depend on it.
google avatar

Angeline K.

Yelp
Beautiful view, impeccable service (though white gloves are a bit much), but food was not impressive enough to be on par with what I would have expected a 2-Michelin star restaurant to be. Good but not amazing. I did notice that they did not have strict dress code standards considering, which is nice for those visiting from overseas who can still dine here without having to pack anything super fancy.
google avatar

Edwin H.

Yelp
The food was not that great compared to other Michelin 2 star restaurants but it is worth a try.
google avatar

Simon W.

Yelp
The shallow man is not easily impressed, and yet I must say that every time I visit this place it genuinely takes my breath away. From the moment you arrive you are entering a portal to another planet and that planet is called service. The food is on another level, nothing that is served vaguely resembles how your mind expects it to be. The Amuses are better than the main courses in most restaurants. Everything served has layers of complexity, it's as if there's an incredible party taking place on your tongue, and everyone is invited. The service is as structured, coordinated and choreographed as the Bolshoi Ballet, Romeo and Juliet the Opera, and Michael Jacksons Thriller. Food is served simultaneously to both parties. Glasses of wine are topped up by a restaurant service team that are slicker than a snake in a barrel of oil. It's fine dining in a different galaxy. If Ciel Bleu were a woman, I'd marry her.
google avatar

Sandra L.

Yelp
This is the second time coming here and now I just have to say! Impressed! And yes the food was excellent! The service was top-notch! The wine they recommend was perfect with the meal ! In the end the service was with a smile & jokes, so very happy couple we were! It's a great place for intimate celebrations :)
google avatar

Marti M.

Yelp
Wonderful, warm friendly faces with energetic yet professional and precise presentations. Very kind to do mine in English. They will accommodate all allergies and preferences such as vegan, pescatarian, vegetarian. Each plate was more beautiful than the previous and the wine was incredible and the perfect temperature the entire meal. They didn't allow your glass to be empty too long and they were a fun staff. I would return for sure. They even accommodated my child for a little while (who chose to go to bed late) until we could bring him to bed in the room and carry on with dinner. They don't miss a beat here!
google avatar

Yelp
Well What can I say I have being dinning in this great French restaurant for more then three and half decades now and they never let me down great food great wines great service and the greatest panoramic aerial venue of Amsterdam.... This Restaurant is really expansive :)
google avatar

Anthony S.

Yelp
The service was amazing. White gloved, very personal and professional. You will be impressed with the presentation. The food was not for me. Very elegant but lacked substance and taste. Not worth what we spent in my opinion.
google avatar

Phillip B.

Yelp
Top notch in every way. Service was close to perfect and the food was outstanding. The views from our table just added to the experience.
google avatar

Tarek B.

Yelp
Chilling cold service. Dishonest booking service. Pretentious without merit or substance.
google avatar

Rodger W.

Yelp
Want to experience something really special? For let's say an anniversary or any other sort of celebration? Eat here. This is amazing. Unparalleled. The food is F A N T A S T I C, French cuisine with a hint of the orient, super creative, amazing flavours, your tastebuds will go crazy, this is heaven! And staff? I never ever experienced so much dedication and pampering before. And I am spoiled! These people -all white gloves on- will make you feel very very special. One person will remove crumbs from your tablecloth, another will place the plates and necessary 'tools', another will serve you the food and of course their sommelier wil poor you the excellent wines and -yes- another member of the staff will tell you all about what's in front of you, looking like a masterpiece, waiting to be enjoyed by you, bringing bliss to the parts of your brain where flavours are processed. And then the venue itself, it has amazing views over Amsterdam, being on the 23rd floor of the Okura hotel, it all adds up to the heavenly experience of visiting this 2 stars Michelin restaurant. Try before you die!

Maria M.

Yelp
An absolute mind blowing experience. I had a fantastic time. It was my birthday dinner. The whole staff wished me a happy birthday. It was such a lovely time. The food was excellent, the staff friendly and amazing. If I find myself in Amsterdam again, I would have to go here again.

Yelp
Amazing. Truly amazing. From the view to the food. We knew that from the minute we walked in we wound be taken care of. The manager was the first to greet us and show us to the table. Prices are little on the high side but the food was great.

Chris A.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant with unique and innovative food. The views overlooking the river were beautiful and made the experience very special. We had a 6 course meal that provided a wide variety of foods. As a first time visitor to Amsterdam I was very impressed that they had such a creative menu.

Irvin G.

Yelp
This restaurant has spectacular service and food . Can not say enough to about the service, really impressive. Everything was delicious with incredibly rich taste. The decor is underwhelming but who cares with this quality of food and service. Rivals top NYC restaurants. Expensive but worth it.

Moises A.

Yelp
The Dutch have never been known for food, but they have lots of great chefs and restaurants. Ciel Bleu is 2-star Michelin, but don't let that intimidate you - they are still all about the food. My suggestion is two take at least a three course meal with paired wine and let them do the rest. One thing I noticed though is the place itself felt, I don't know, old. Feels like it needs a makeover. But if it was just the food, 5 stars.
