Cilantro food truck is permanently parked in the Sunoco on King Avenue. They are open for lunch and dinner Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. They are closed Tuesday and Wednesday. I have been wanting to try this food truck out for months. And today I finally made it happen!!!
One of the cilantro employees walked me through the menu. They offer a couple of house favorites, but you can also build your own meal. That is the way I chose to go. I did a bowl with salad and rice. I asked for the protein suggestion and one of the many suggestions was pulled pork (I'm not a big beef eater). You then get to pick the mix ins. I was quick to pick plantains (for an upcharge of $0.50, which I would gladly pay). You see plantains was one of the big reasons I wanted to seek out Cilantro Food Truck in the first place. I also went with guacamole, pico de gallo, and black beans. I initially was not going to choose a cheese from the next step, but the workers highly suggested grilled cheese. And I always listen to the suggestions of the professionals, I mean they know best right! The last step to building your own meal is choosing your own sauce, and I knew that I needed to try the spicy cilantro sauce. I also had to order the side of sweet fried plantains with cheese (for $4.99). They came highly suggested and I just love plantains!!!!!
While you wait for your food, you can wait in your car. When the food is done the awesome employees of Cilantro bring the food directly to you in your car. What a kind service, especially during these difficult COVID times. The 7-10 minute wait went by quick! The food was delivered directly to us. Then the difficult part came, we had to drive home with the delicious smells of our lunch wafting through the truck cab. It took everything we had not to break into our lunch while we were driving home. It was very difficult.
After we arrived home, we dove in. The first thing I noticed was how well Cilantro packaged their to go food. For example they kept the black beans and spicy cilantro in their own separate containers to not cause any of the food to be soggy. Also to allow me to decide the amount I actually wanted to add. I dipped some pulled pork into the spicy cilantro sauce and the flavors blew my mind. I am so glad they did not add the spicy cilantro sauce, because man does it have a kick. The pork melted in my mouth. It was the opposite of dry. It was moist, flavorful, and tender. The rice was done perfectly, almost sticky. The guacamole and pico de gallo added another amazing layer of flavors. I ate the grilled cheese on its own and I mentally thanked the Cilantro employees for suggesting it!
On to the sweet fried plantains. They are sweet!!! They are expertly cooked!!! The best I have had! They alone would keep me coming back! But truly ever since I had lunch all I can talk about is how amazing the food was and when are we going to pick up another meal from Cilantro.
I appreciate how helpful and kind the employees were! I love the convenient location of the truck! But most of all the food was fantastic! Truly some of the best I have had. Better than a lot of sit down restaurants! It is memorable and delectable! Please seek out Cilantro Food Truck and order the plantains!!!!
