"Rosemont, not exactly home to the hottest new restaurants and an electric food scene. Today we are throwing a lifeline to those of you who work anywhere near O’Hare, or maybe you're a huge fan of the Fashion Outlets of Chicago. You may also be a degenerate gambler, and the proximity of today's review to Rivers would interest you too. Either way, in the land of corporate office buildings and Holiday Inn Express there are usually two options: 1. Get stuck eating the same d*mn thing every day, or 2. Bring your lunch. But every now and then you need to let loose and break up the monotony of the day, and in this case let loose means a taco and torta party at Cilantro. We recently learned Cilantro has additional locations in Addison, Stone Park, and one off the Las Vegas strip, which makes absolutely zero sense to us. What does make sense is that whether you’re on a routine hour long lunch break or looking for an afternoon escape from the cube monkey life, Cilantro is surprisingly a legitimate option for some Mexican food. There was a period of time we were around these parts for lunch, and while the line would tell you Cilantro isn’t a secret, we are here to spread the good word. Located on West Higgins Road near the I90, I190, and I294 rush hour sh*tstorm, there’s an unsuspecting strip mall next to a 7-11 worth a lunchtime trip. We first inadvertently encountered Cilantro on a Taco Tuesday and took it as a sign from the big guy upstairs. Cilantro is a small restaurant with limited seating and you’ll most definitely wait in line during prime lunch hour. This isn't amateur hour - do yourself a favor and call ahead if you're in a hurry to get back to work. These burritos, tacos, and tortas will not treat you wrong, and the green chili, red chili, and cilantro cream sauce at your disposal add some extra zest and spice. We promise Cilantro will treat you well, leaving both you and your wallet a little heavier for the day. Of course, all bets are off if Rivers is on deck. Food Rundown Chicken Tamale Overall, a decent tamale. The masa is a little bland, but nothing a good dousing in green chili can’t solve. Chicken Torta This is a great torta. Quality bread, good meat, beans, sour cream, avocado, lettuce and tomatoes. One of our favorite items here. Steak Burrito Old faithful. It won’t be bursting at the seams, but the ingredients are fresh and it comes piping hot off the grill. Fish Taco Not always the same, but expect some sort of lean, white fish, such as tilapia. Some spices and the grill are what bring the flavor. Barbacoa Taco Mexican barbecue. Beef that's been slow cooked and simmered in its own juices. Tender and rich. Steak Taco Same meat as the burritos, same delicious taste. Cecina Taco Thinly sliced and salted steak. Definitely saltier than the regular steak, but a different kind of flavor and also good." - Sam Faye

Google
My fiancee and I had lunch here today, ordering was quick and easy our food came to us hot, fresh and delicious. This location was extremely clean the staff was very helpful and the food was top notch

Google
Man really disappointing last couple times. Apparently if you modify anything they just give you a completely plain item. Burrito bowl no lettuce came with just rice and chicken. Disappointing because my wife and I took it to go. Tried again with a steak burrito to go today. Very busy at lunch rush. Steak burrito no lettuce extra cheese. Got home and it’s just steak. Tried to call and it won’t go through. Drove back with my receipt and they didn’t even apologize or prioritize remaking the burrito I had to wait like I had just walked in a placed the order. Also, the size is a joke. I understand mistakes when customizing orders but the lack of care and small portions means I won’t go back.

As you all know by my other reviews I don't usually even rate my bad experiences but this time it was bad. On there wall menu behind the register it says $9.95 for a burrito but they charged me $10.35. They come with 6 extra ingredients but I only wanted onion and cilantro. They upcharge me even though I wasn't getting the other six. Then when I got the burrito it was the size of an egg roll. I could have eaten two even though every other place in the city I go to one is plenty to curb my hunger.

Google
In my opinion, the prices are a little high. I'm glad that they offer lime slices, but some of the slices were far from fresh. I was satisfied with everything else. I ordered a taco, a quesadilla, and a Mexican Coke, and it was al very tasty.

Google
Get place for some fresh tacos, with lots of options. The hibiscus drink is really good!!

This is one cool hidden gem in rosemont I did not expect to come across. Before taking my gf to the airport for a girls trip, we needed an immediate meal to stop the hanger overload. We came to a mutual decision that tacos are going to save the day and they did! We also loved the layout of this restaurant with cool murals and art of the city. They even have a cool toppings section for accessible for all.

Google
3 hours after I eat the meal ( Belly Bowl with chicken and some picking). I notice I was not feeling good. I had a flight to catch also. So before landing I had to use the vomit bag for a first time in my life. I was vomiting all night and after one day I am still sick. I called my cousin that she eat with me and come to find out she was sick also. She had meat Taco Burritos and pickling. I think health department need to visit them. Very bad experience.

Update: They moved accross the street which works because you don’t have to deal with the psycho security guy from nasty Morettis anymore!!! Anyway still delicious! Love everything & they have a bar now! But why isn’t the green sauce spicy?! I love Cilantro! They are really friendly here. The Al Pastor tacos are so good, the churro was yummy and do love their fries. Also the Tamarind Water is delicious.

Yelp
Decent spot for lunch. However, due to many offices in the area, be prepared for a little bit of a wait. They have lots of meat and veggie options. Tacos, burritos, taco salads, etc. They also offer a wide variety of salsas. They have canned sodas and bottled water. Plenty of parking.

Ms. S.

Yelp
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Ever since this location got new management it has gone downhill. Tonight we got steak tacos and almost choked they were so dry. They no longer have shrimp tacos either. I will NEVER EVER go back to this place. It's worse than Taco Bell. I never had tacos stuck in my throat until now. If you go to this location make sure bring a lot of water to wash down the dry leather tacos. what a waste of money!

Yelp
Food was good! I appreciated the salsas laid out for you to grab your own. There was a variety with different spice levels which was good. Lots of seating and the place got pretty busy for dinner! Wished the tacos had a little more flavor but the salsa I added was good enough. We also got some limes for our tacos as well which were a juicy but could've been a little more fresh. Nonetheless, decent tacos especially for the price! We paid with the inkind app and got a discount which I recommend!

Yelp
Living in San Diego it is hard to find good Mexican food when in the Midwest. I got stuck overnight in Chicago & Cilantro was next door to my hotel. I ordered a burrito and it didn't disappoint. I ordered a Jamica to drink & for a chain it was very tasty. Fresh ingredients and a clean restaurant. You order at the counter & pick up your food. The young man at the counter was polite, but he didn't know how to punch the numbers in on my voucher (enter like a credit card.) So I was not able to use my food credit from the airline. I would eat at Cilantro next time I'm in the area.

Mark Y.

Yelp
Coming from California my expectations for finding decent Mexican food were low. Coming from a chain, even a regional one, my expectations were even lower. I was honestly surprised, this is legit Mexican food. My fiance picked up a sampling for all of us. My lingua taco was very good, as was the chile relleno burrito. The steak in her taco salad was highly seasoned yet delicious. Her chicken taco was good, too. Everything was fresh and well done. You can't get any toppings like avocado or sour cream on the side. It's either on the food or you don't get it. Odd policy. Good prices, but the prices shown are for cash transactions. If you use a card it's an extra three-something percent added to your bill. That's really tacky, and borderline deceptive. I understand wanting to recoup transaction fees, but that's just the price for doing business. They do call it a discount for paying cash, but the prices shown are for cash so that isn't a discount. I can't give five stars to any place that tries to nickel and dime you like that. So, 4.5 stars for the food, 4 for the value, one star for the toppings not being offered on the side, and one star for the credit card fee as presented. That's 3.5 stars total, rounded up.

Yelp
5 stars for Cilantro Taco Grill in Rosemont. I would always pass this restaurant on my way home from doing something in Rosemont, and I figured tonight I would finally give it a try. It's a quick service Mexican Restaurant, they cook your food very quick and the workers are very friendly. We tried a chicken taco salad and steak taco dinner - the steak was very flavorful and filling. There is also a self service salsa bar where you can pick your own sauce (mild medium or hot) and limes/giradnara and a bar. There are no fountain machines however so you'll have to buy a bottle/can. I'd highly recommend a visit if you want something quick in Rosemont and some good Mexican food.

Andrea R.

Yelp
This place was once my fav. It was very good. Now with the new owner this place is awful. The meat is very dry and hard to chew.

Ulisses C.

Yelp
Who ever took out the milanesa torta and the sauce bottles big fuck you to you. Who wants to stan to keep getting sauce, kind of like they dont want you to grab sauce. Also my water of orchata wasn't filled to the brim straight booty here.

Iris P.

Yelp
Who doesn't love a good torta!? Cilantro has many options and one of our favorites is the steak torta ! It's so fresh with real avocados sliced inside of it and unlimited salsas to put on and in it! It's a cute place to go in and grab a quick bite! We also love their tacos, tostadas, taco salads, & of course their burritos! The service is so sweet and the ambiance is even bigger now that they moved locations!

Kelly H.

Yelp
We stopped in while they were still in the old strip mall location. We had planned to go somewhere else, but the wait there was very long, and we were hungry. It wasn't the friendliest experience, but the food was hot and fresh - and we weren't their for making friends. Beans and rice are kind of a "tell" and their rice was fluffy and the beans were thick and delicious. I could always add more cheese though! We were all happy with our food and the portions were enough to fill us up.

Andrew G.

Yelp
What a great find, right across the street from my hotel. I ordered through Yelp (GrubHub) and the order was ready when I arrived. As you can see, everything is very fresh. The steak was thinly sliced and tender and the lettuce and tomatoes were the perfect pairing. The tamale was excellent as well. I got the sauce between mild and hot, and it was very good as well. My experience with Cilantro validates all the other great Yelp reviews. And by the way. They are so successful that they are moving across the street to a much larger location. As I was following directions to the current Cilantro, I saw the new location on my side of the street. I went inside, and it was under construction. It is close to being finished and I am happy for the owners and crew that they are so successful. I am attending MidWest Furfest in early December, and I won't even have to walk across the street!

Ruben H.

Yelp
Mediocre at best. Overpriced Tortas and tacos with skimpy portions left me feeling hungry. This place used to be so good. I will be staying away, for sure.

Christine L.

Yelp
Located in a plaza and easy to miss this place has some excellent Mexican food that comes out hot and fast! Recently stopped by after a movie at the AMC nearby due to a taco bowl craving and left here completely satisfied. Haven't had a taco bowl as good as this place in quite a long time, and judging by the stacks of taco bowls they have prepped behind the counter I imagine they sell many of them! Order the the counter towards the side, pick up window is towards the front. They have pretty standard options for Mexican food. Husband really liked his tacos al pastor and the taco bowl had plenty of rice, beans, carne asada, lettuce, tomatoes, and avocado. Add as much of their salsa as you like (they have 3 different types in their mini fridge) and you're off to a great meal. Definitely a fast food joint vibe as you pick up at the counter and manage your own utensils, water cups, and salsas. They have TVs around if you're interested but really the food is enough!

Mark S.

Yelp
This used to be the best steak burrito around, but tonight the steak was very dried out and not chopped the way it used to be. Another great meal just vanishes. Poof, we were doing so well that we decided to change the way we make the burrito. Maybe it was just a bad day, but don't change the way you make something after you've been so successful the original way, if that's what you did.

Rod D.

Yelp
Visited here on a Thursday evening for dinner with family visiting from out of town. It was busy and food was flowing from the kitchen. I was really impressed that it was busy since this isn't close to any residential areas and usually this place is busy for lunch due to the lunch time rush of business. The ambiance was amazing for a weekday night.

Sonia B.

Yelp
Cilantro Taco was decent. I would've given it 4 stars, but I knocked off a star for service. Upon walking in, there were a few open tables, and they were filthy! I mean, salsa spilled all over and food crumbs. The reason that this is an issue is because there were a few workers behind the counter just chatting. My husband and brother-in-law grabbed a spray bottle sitting on top of a garbage can and napkins and cleaned up the tables themselves. The workers for sure saw, but never came over to clean it themselves. The food was pretty good. I tried the chicken taco plate with rice and beans. It was a good portion and tasty. The lack of service just threw off the experience. I probably wouldn't go all the way back there when there are plenty of other places that serve just as good food with better service. The service is the factor that really made a difference in my review.

Smoov 1.

Yelp
The think they are slick Be aware the price on the menu board is way cheaper than in the ring up register price

Nicole P.

Yelp
I was so pleasantly surprised by this spot, I tend to steer clear of chain restaurants since I prefer mom and pop places instead but this is an awesome place for fast casual Mexican food . The service is great and super fast, the food is great quality and delicious and the menu is extensive. Very authentic and delicious, they also offer delivery. Highly recommend.

P K.

Yelp
First time ordering (12-8-23). Delivery was quick. This is my burrito belly bowl - the avocados were black. I called to let them know and was told it was due to the heat from the food and they are not serving any black avocados. Additionally, my son's steak tacos were missing all toppings. Disappointing experience.

Javier S.

Yelp
They ran out of avacado for their torta meals, yet didnt give me a discount and charged me full price for the inconvenience

V G.

Yelp
This place has changed. The last 4-5 times I've gone, the burrito had barely any meat in it. Mostly lettuce. The ingredients always seemed fresh and high-quality, so I kept going, but not anymore. I will give it one more chance and update the review if they do better.

Paul K.

Yelp
Beware new owners ! The food quality is not good at all. It was really good before. The new owner took over and it's a -1 star !! Time to find a new place.

Gabby Z.

Yelp
This location never disappoints. Came in on a Sunday for dinner and was a good amount of people. Waited about 10 minutes from ordering to getting food. Steak burrito with no beans 10/10 very flavorful and everything just went very well together. Tomato's we're actually tasted his time unlike other times and it was pretty nice. Steak taco with cilantro and onion was 7/10 just wasn't hitting the spot as much as the burrito. Sauces were great especially the avocado one, I believe it says hot on it. Chips and salsa 10/10 it's my favorite yet. Some charcoal taste and spicy with some tangy. Very good I recommend.

Kelly P.

Yelp
Food was great. Very diverse menu for a taqueria! They have some of the authentic classics like lengua. Got steak tacos- I love that the meat is in smaller pieces than other places. They make their own tortillas at their factory and they are good! Also there's a self-service salsa bar.

Irm C.

Yelp
The food use yo be good, but now it tastes terrible. I got a taco platter and they replaced the carne asada tacos with chicken, didn't see it until I got home snd opened the platter.

Joyce L.

Yelp
When I first set foot in the parking lot of the restaurant, I knew it was going to be good, considering just how many people are in line and waiting for their food. It was lunch time and there were a bunch of businesses around so it made perfect sense that there was going to be a lot of people. The restaurant was just a short drive from nearby hotels, and it's a convenient lunch spot with excellent Mexican food for a decent price. I ordered 3x carne asada tacos, 1 lengua taco, 1 lomo de res taco, a side of pico de gallo, and guacamole and chips and it was only $30 including tax and tip. After having lived in San Diego throughout my undergraduate years, I'm fairly picky when it comes to Mexican food, but boy did Cilantro hit the spot. I'm now extremely jealous that Illinois has Cilantro as a chain restaurant...it's time for y'all to cross the border to Wisconsin and open one in Milwaukee. The tacos with the pico de gallo and guacamole (plus both the mild and medium salsas) were excellent. The only thing I forgot about was the LIME. I wish they had put in some as they were packing the food for to-go, but now I know. The meat was fresh and the tortillas were great. I loved the pico de gallo and the guacamole, both were so well done. Even though I'm only in Chicago for a short time, I 100% would come back again to try their burrito. Just a warning that the wait may be long if you decide to go during lunch on a weekday! If you can order ahead online, it'd definitely save you some time. Anyway, bottom-line is that if you need a good and affordable lunch, Cilantro is the place for you to go!

Reda D.

Yelp
This place used to be good , I ordered a steak burrito and it had barely any meat in it , it's was mostly lettuce and very dry little amount of meat . Very desepointed I will not comeback

Donna S.

Yelp
We ordered four pork tamales to go and we got home and they were chicken... and very dry. We tried to call but of course they closed at 10. I sent them an email to refund the purchase but I have yet to hear back. It's been 2 days.

Michael M.

Yelp
Before I retired I worked in Rosemont and Cilantro was a favorite. That was four years ago. Had the opportunity to be in Rosemont for a weekend and decided to go there for lunch. They have moved across the street from where they originally were and their new restaurant is much more pleasant than the old. The food, same delicious fare An extensive menu and the sauces were just as I remembered. My wife was with me and while I am not big on Avocado, she is. She said it was one of the best Guacamole she has ever had.

Ken G.

Yelp
Awesome authentic tacos. Great service as well. Everyone of their tacos are great. Pastor is very good, homemade tortillas. I highly recommend if your in the area.

Doug T.

Yelp
Went there the other night and had a the single worst dining experience of my life. Service went from bad to worse. I received the wrong item and when I said something both people behind the counter said there is nothing they can do. Tried asking for a manager, then emailed corporate and BIG SURPRISE NO RESPONSE. I will not be coming back due to poor customer service from top to bottom.

Beverly K.

Yelp
Odd vibe in there. They act like they are not happy to have your business. Two different ladies at the counter shared the same sentiments. Maybe they have had a very long day in there In My opinion. I went there for the Al pastor burrito and it was pretty huge. No flavor, very bland. I kept pouring the mild and the green salsa on it. That did help a bit. Threw it away after 5 bites. Tough chewy rubbery bites. 12.49 with a can of Diet Coke. So many more places I want to try here.

Sara S.

Yelp
I like it here. Generous portions, delicious food, fast services, and clean restaurant. What else could you ask for?

Ms V.

Yelp
If you have never been it is a MUST if you are in the area! The food was OUTSTANDING! I wish I would have took photos! I had a chile relleno taco... when I tell you this was delicious it was! I had a pastor and asada taco and all of them were so flavorful. The salsa bar they have is top notch! The service was quick. This is not a fancy place at all but it was clean and well lit. It kind of gave me a fast food chain vibe but with executive chef flavor!

John L.

Yelp
Food is very delicious. One of my favorites is the breakfast burrito . I usually get the steak tacos

Carla L.

Yelp
In Chicago for the weekend, we were truly excited to get some good Mexican food and as we were staying in Rosemont looked for an option close to our hotel. From the moment you walk in, you get hit with that incredible smell of authentic Mexican food. There were so many choices, so my hubby and I ordered [too much food], a 3 Fish Taco platter, two extra fish tacos, a quesadilla, guacamole, and two Agua Frescas - Tamarindo and the red one, Jamaica I think. Don't remember the name of it. The Tamarindo was perfection, I loved it. The tacos were quite big and once the order started coming out we realized that we did indeed order way too much. Not gonna lie though, we managed to finish it. The tacos were amazing, the guac perfect, the chips homemade deliciousness and that quesadilla was literally the best one ever. Yes, it was just cheese and tortillas but the quality of each was absolutely fantastic. They also have salsas in a fridge off to the side and I chose the green one because I adore tomatillos. Honestly? I am craving those homemade tortillas, they were so good. I am hoping to go visit again soon so I can come back. Quality food!

sherwin m.

Yelp
Good food, good service, clean restaurants. I ordered a chicken burrito with chips and salsa. I would definitely patronize.

Eric C.

Yelp
Food - delicious Ambiance - really nice Service - unacceptable. Stopped in recently and ordered several tacos for a little neighborhood party. Unfortunately, the 2 fish tacos (that I bought for the party hosts!) weren't included. I called the restaurant asking if they could just issue a refund to my credit card. Was told I needed to come into the store - fair enough. Went the next day and was told a manager needed to process the refund, but there wasn't one in. They took my number and assured me I'd get a call within 2-3 days. That was 2 weeks ago and no call. They've unfortunately lost a customer.

Christopher B.

Yelp
Pay no attention to the Karen's giving one star. A good indication of excellence in food sales is a line, they had one to order at 5:00pm. I was greeted by friendly staff who made suggestions when asked. Food was prepared quickly and was all fresh and warm. Nice presentation on the plate. I had the Burrito Belly Bowl and one Pastor, Pollo and Asada tacos. (I was hungry). And a Horchata drink. The bowl came with the perfect amount of chips that every bite have a chip. The tacos were each a different taste and were some of the best authentic Mexican I've had in a great while. I left very happy and satisfied. You will too.

Julie T.

Yelp
We carried out our order. Food was very good. Pleasant service personnel. Moved from across the street to this larger location. Next time we may stay and eat there.

Sharon T.

Yelp
I briefly regretted not just going to the Taco Bell next door while eating this meal. It's a step up from Taco Bell but not by a lot. I think the prices are comparable so overall this place is probably better? The service is very fast. My main issue was how doughy both the torta bread and taco tortilla were, which ended up overpowering the whole meal. The ingredients inside taste fresh enough and they are generous with the avocado on the taco. The sauces (I tried mild and medium) are too watery. For a vegetarian, I wouldn't recommend coming here. They said their usual vegetarian substitution was just adding more rice. I asked for beans on my taco and they left it out so the taco was primarily rice. The chile relleno in my torta was really a massive block of cheese with a small chile in the middle. Not bad, but not what I expected.

A O.

Yelp
Food was actually good here! Service was quick and friendly. There was a Latino vibe, with music and the news on. They were really kind people. Thanks guys. I wish I had you guys closer to where I live.

Chris C.

Yelp
Very very very good. I'll say that again for the folks in the back. This place is very very very good. I wanted barbacoa tacos, which somehow seems to be a little bit difficult to find. This taqueria has them, as well as 15 other meat options, all for the tidy sum of $2.99 a taco. I was starving so I ordered four, and I was still hungry so I got back in line and ordered a picadillo burrito, which is like a regular burrito but it has a sort of spicy, marinated beef on it. Everything tasted top notch. I was impressed. Cilantro Taco Grill has numerous locations in the Chicagoland area, which I'll keep in mind for next time I'm there. I would highly recommend this restaurant to newbies who want to experiment with authentic tacos beyond ones with chicken or ground beef in them, or other Mexican classics. They also do breakfast burritos. So this is worth a Sunday lunch or mid-week dinner trip.

Karina R.

Yelp
Very good food. I recommend ordering ahead of time just because of how busy they get.

Sandra R.

Yelp
Stop last minute on our way to a concert, best taco joint ever! The steak is yummy arrachera and the tripas are delicious. Really simple, but great Mexican food. Affordable prices and fast service.

Jani M.

Yelp
I ordered through Grubhub. First time customer. They're taco plate looked so perfect it could of been used as a display. I ordered it with cilantro and onion only. I was impressed on the selection of meats they had! Tripas didn't taste foul and not overly salty. It must of been clean well. I will definitely order again.

Jeff C.

Yelp
Fancy dining this place is not! But lots of good food for a very reasonable price it totally is. I got the tamales which tasted great. The massa that they use is a bit too course but otherwise very good. My friend got a burrito which was large and had plenty of carne asada.
