Modern Mexican Restaurant Cintli Opens in North Portland - Eater Portland

"Cintli, located in the heart of University Park, is Javier Hurtado’s modern Mexican cocina. The restaurant offers a menu filled with personal and creative dishes such as quesadillas with huitlacoche, mole-covered lamb shank, and a variety of moles like mole negro, mole verde, and mole amarillo. The cocktail menu is equally innovative, featuring infusions like gin with nopales and hibiscus-infused Campari. Cintli aims to balance originality with family-friendly dining, offering a kid’s menu and a welcoming atmosphere for families and college students alike." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

A really cool Mexican restaurant that provides a high quality ingredient approach to staples that you love. The food has a lot of depth and a lot of care. The price isn't cheap but the experience and atmosphere are great. The restaurant is nicely styled and the happy hour makes it nicer on your wallet. I recommend coming here in a group of two to four and share all the dishes like a tapas style dining experience. The outdoor patio is very well decorated and comfortable.

Wow. Found this place on TikTok and drove all the way from Beaverton—it was well worth the drive. Interior was nicely decorated, good ambiance. They have margarita flights for a decent price. The guava one was bomb! Our food was so rich with flavor. Mole enchiladas and caldo de mariscos were so satisfying and perfect. It’s far from us but we definitely want to come back already. Check it out!

A great experience! Awesome staff, amazing food, super nice back patio. So happy to have a nice restaurant back in the neighborhood. Even if we aren’t hungry we will be back for the cocktails ❤️

Excited to have a new restaurant in the neighborhood that has great flavor, friendly staff, and beautiful ambience. Ordered our food to go but will definitely be back to dine in and try their cocktails with friends and family. The food is Indigenous Mexican so more unique menu items than what we typically see here in Portland.

It’s a very pretty space, great indoor and outdoor. The service and owner were great. The food was either too spicy or not flavorful enough which was a bit of a bummer. Thought it was a bit over priced for the quality. I’ll be back to try it again and some more cocktails, because I’m a local and it’s convenient to have a nice place with a full bar. I’ve tried again a couple times since and it’s just still not great. Service is very nice but seemed chaotic and attention was lacking. Got 2 HH quesadillas and they were fine but not great, the tortilla was very tough. The menu prints were very confusing (not updated) and they were missing a handful of ingredients. I’ll only be coming back for happy hour, appreciate that it’s daily.

Stopped in for the first time while in PDX moving my daughter in for college. The first thing I noticed was the atmosphere when we walked in the door. Very nice and inviting. We sat in the outdoor patio out back. Really nice, clean, and comfortable. Lots of seating both indoors and out. I had a Margarita flight with three incredibly delicious and unique flavors. So good! Food was delicious and spicy, which I love. We were waited on by the restaurant manager, Tawnia, who was FABULOUS!! Tawnia was super knowledgeable, funny, and intuitive. Loved it. We will definitely be back again! Two thumbs up!

Have visited about a dozen times since later July and 10 out of 12 have been great. Server Nora and Bartender Tanya are fantastic and super accommodating 5 star staff, the young man that serves there is not professional nor accommodating on the two occasions that I have been in his service area. Last evening I asked for salsa sides, something that is normally offered by Nora and Tanya and was brought a handful of chips and three small metal ramekins of salsa's and charged $14 during happy hour, I am not kidding! When I objected I was told I had ordered nachos, which I had not and did not even see a trio of salsas with nachos on the menu then I was told they only come with entrees, not the happy hour tacos, such as the mole' or are charged....never of which I have been in the past. Pick the right server station and you are guaranteed a sensational experience and delightful flavors, albeit expensive, but you get what you pay for, with the exception of the trio of salsa's for $14.
