Art and Culture in Madrid

"Located on Calle Alcala, Madrid’s longest street, the Círculo de Bellas Artes is a multi-disciplinary cultural center that hosts exhibitions, music and dance performances, movie showings, workshops, etc. The highlight of this cool spot is the beautiful building’s rooftop, which has the best views of Madrid and a full bar." - MATADOR_NETWORK

"Circulo de Bellas Artes—Overlooking Madrid When in Madrid , I highly recommend to visit Circulo de Bellas Artes. The views from the rooftop of the Fine Arts Circle is breath taking. Buy a ticket at the reception, speed up to the roof and stand by the feet of Goddess Minerva. Highly recommended during sunset with a glass of wine in hand."

Círculo De Bellas Artes Rooftop Bar - Review - Sol - Madrid - The Infatuation

"The rooftop of the Circulo de Bellas Artes - a historic cultural building dating back to the 1880s - has some of the best views in Madrid. With those views come lines and a $5 admission price, but even in peak tourist season you shouldn’t have to wait more than 30 minutes. There are high tops and a covered seating area, but if you’re lucky enough to grab one of the 10 or so lounge beds, we suggest hanging out with some wine because you just snagged the best seat in the city." - Cristina Shipe

Beautiful terraza. The rooftop is at the top of a theater and venue. Pay €5.50 to enter. The drinks are not expensive. Hard to find a table to sit at first, but we found seating when a group left. Worth it.

Andrew Robin

Google
Best to go a little early if you want a place in the evening. There is a queue but it's not too bad. The Sunset experience is great. This historic rooftop bar is one of the best in Madrid !!

Fabio

Google
The best spot to have an aperitif in Madrid at golden hour. 5.50€ to enter, the view and the vibe up there make it totally worth it. Fair prices🙏🏻⭐️

Natasha Rajshekhar

Google
Great time had at this Rooftop, well worth the money, we went when there was a Martini promotional event going on and the place was packed. Would have been nice to have a seat and drink with the view but ah well. What harm!

Rocio Diaz-Benjumea

Google
Best rooftop we have visited in Madrid, plus we got to see three different art exhibitions in the building for the price of the entrance (5€). Not sure if there was a private event later that day but we were told we could only go up the terrace once and only until noon. Maybe there is another price for going up in the afternoon/evening but I am not aware of that.

Hoosieronthemove

Google
Wanna know where the coolest bar in the city is? On the rooftop of this building. Walk inside and hang a sharp left and get your 5€ ticket to be able to take the elevator up to the roof. Just pay the fee, it’s totally worth it.

Iva Opacic

Google
Realy nice atmosphere, great music, chill vibes. We didn’t have reservations, that was no problem. At the entrance you have to buy tickets. It was around 5e.

Ahmed Coutry

Google
This is a fantastic spot in Madrid’s downtown to get a 360 view of the city. Highly recommend going around sunset but make sure to arrive early to avoid the elevator lineup and to find good seats. Entrance is €5.5 per person.

Yelp
Though I'm not a native Spaniard, I studied abroad here and visited too- this is one of the best rooftop views in the city! Unless you make a dinner reservation (only way to get food too), tickets are 5 euro to enter the bar and you might wait around 10 min in line to enter. While cocktails are expensive by European standards at 10 euro, tinto de verano (a classic) isn't terrible at 5 euro. Even without drinks, definitely worth it just for the view! Sunsets are amazing. On a chilly evening, they have heaters over some of the lounge chairs. I'd highly recommend to get a great view of the city!

Yelp
Such a great time on this beautiful rooftop in Madrid! I had some time to kill as I was waiting on a friend to run a bunch of errands on an early afternoon...not to mention it was on my list to check out while in Madrid. Good timing as it was not very crowded and no lines to get up there. Entry cost me about 4 euros which was fine. Made it upstairs and was welcomed to an amazing view of Madrid! Every angle was amazing! I walked around for a few and then grabbed a seat on the artificial turf cooling area fully equipped with pillows to relax on...also close to the bar lol! The lady serving drinks behind the bar near the entrance/exit kept me with some very good Tinto de Verranos (about 3) and it made for a nice buzz. They serve food here as well that looks good but I was not hungry. This is one of those places you have to hit up when visiting Madrid as the views, atmosphere and drinks are phenomenal! One of my favorite stops during my recent visit.

Yelp
My girlfriend took me to this rooftop bar while we were in Madrid after she had raved about it from prior visits. If you don't have a reservation, there's a queue downstairs and the entrance fee is 5 euros/person. Alternatively, there is an art museum that you can view instead (not sure if this gets you free admission to the rooftop area though). The drinks are reasonable priced (our tintos were 5 euros each) and the views are incredible. Plenty of seating, just be sure to bring a jacket because it does get quite chilly at night. We loved this place and would definitely come again.

Yelp
I'd highly recommend a stop here while in Madrid! It's hard to find, man it is hard... one night we walked all around it and could not find the place. A little frustrating. It was easier during the day and you have to find the right spot to get in line around the corner, I think it was books displayed in a window. Anyways, keep at it! Their hours are SO confusingly limited, as well. So, check the times/days they're open before going through the journey of trying to find the place. I don't get that why hours are so limited. You also have to pay money to go up there, but ah, I was a tourist so gotta see the things. It's unique, though, because there aren't a lot of high up spots in Madrid. The view is great. The service was crap, lol. I remember struggling hard to get a drink. Why should this be the case at a bar?!? But, anyways I gotta be real and say it's still worth a visit! I'd go back again if I found myself in Madrid again.

Yelp
This rooftop bar was my favorite place for a sangria in Madrid. I do not like that we had to pay €4 to access the rooftop, but I forgot all about the money once I saw the view of the city. We did have to wait in a line to ride the elevator up but it did not take very long. The tables have umbrellas attached so that was nice that we didn't have to worry about a sunburn being exposed on a roof top. The sangria was tasty, but we did not try the food. It was relaxing to sit and talk and enjoy the atmosphere and the drinks. It was a lively atmosphere with a lot of people so this is clearly a place that many people have heard about.

Yelp
Nice place to get a rooftop view of the city. Costs €5 to get in, so I guess you can think of it as the cost of getting a nice photo. I would suggest going earlier in the day as the spot everyone wants to take a photo at gets crowded pretty quickly.
google avatar

Yelp
If the weather is fair and you expect crowds to be thin, I'd highly recommend shelling out the €4 to nip up to el Círculo. Some friends who were Madrid natives recommended we meet for some afternoon libations. The view is truly superb and the mojitos are excellent. Together it makes for a grand time. It was stupid hot when I visited (30C+, oy). There's a spread of astrotruf lounge pads and summertime automated misters, but as I watched my Scottish brethren slowly redden I feared that I would befall a similar fate. The general area (served by maybe 1-2 small bars, each with 30+min long lines) was also thick with boisterous bruvs en route to Maga, so I had no qualms about relocating to the covered restaurant area. The little restaurant (Tartan Roof) has a full bar and number of tapas. It was packed that day, but the staff were very good about getting our group seated as efficiently as possible. We got a plate of jamón, some bruschetta, and a seasonal platter of dried fruits + cheeses as finger food while we worked our way through some mojitos and beer. I adored their mojito selection - I think I had the original, orange, and strawberry(?). They were sufficiently strong and mixed with fresh fruit juice. The dried and candied orange wheels were also great to nibble on. The staff also kindly let us linger, sipping drinks and munching on jamón, as the sun dipped low and the weather became more humane. Overall, a gorgeous vista to visit for an evening with friends. The crowd was thick and touristy, but I found the little rooftop restaurant to be a totally worthwhile venue. And the mojitos. Oh yes, the mojitos.

Yelp
We stopped by here for the view and we were definitely not disappointed! The bar wasn't too crowded on the roof so it was easy to get good views. The drinks were great too!
google avatar

Eduardo A.

Yelp
If you speak English, listen to me. Come here after 10pm. You will get a beautiful view from a higher elevation. The led lighting gives it a refined ambiance and the background noise is filled with chatter, no music. The drinks make it a better experience
google avatar

Yelp
Great view! I read almost all reviews before going to a particular location or restaurant and this was no different. We paid 8 euros to get to the rooftop and he view was worth it! We didn't stay to have a drink because we had already had too much to eat, but I definitely recommend stopping here for the view alone!
google avatar

Katlyn B.

Yelp
totally worth the view and enjoy some drinks and share some delicious tapas for a spanish lunch
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
5 stars cause of the view. While it kinda sucks you have to pay just to go up there. But we spend some time up there just chilling out so we didn't mind. I wanted the photos. If your are a photographer... the railings are a bit high so if your short... it's hard to get a really good photo. I was a bit disappointed in that. So you can't really get any great areal photos. But the views are still brilliant. They had really cool lounge seating as well which was kinda cool. Had I have known... i would have brought my book and chilled. We had a coffee up there, we didn't eat or drink. We went up just for the views.

Yelp
Very beautiful view and the staff was very friendly ..the garlic shrimp was awesome..we sat under the patio area with turf...very beautiful atmosphere
google avatar

Yelp
Our time in Spain the weather was awful to us. However, we were lucky enough to get a quick stop on the rain at night. The view from up here is beautiful.
google avatar

Miguel D.

Yelp
If your looking for a place with amazing rooftop views, this is it. I came saw a stunning sunset. Their security and waiter could have been more friendly. Also they close at 09:00pm not 01:30. I'd definitely recommend people to come over here.
google avatar

Yelp
Círculo de Bellas Artes is the well-known rooftop of the beautiful hotel. Rumor has it it's the most photographed spot in Madrid. For 4 euros, you can access the rooftop to take in the views and enjoy the bar/restaurant. You have views of the entire city. It's perfect for a midday glass of wine and a photo opp!

Yelp
This was one of my favourite ever bar experiences. As other reviewers have said, it's surprising to have such a staggering and almost panoramic view of the city, right over to the Sierra, at a relatively low height. The bar is enormous with one section devoted to what are basically day beds (like Soho House in NYC). In the central section, high tables and chairs are the perfect place to sit and contemplate the view. Madrid is a city where the cloudless sky is (unlike NYC) a major factor in the urban landscape and I can't think of anywhere better to enjoy it than here. The gin and tonic I had, free poured of course because this is one of the greatest countries in the world, was particularly delicious (although I think fairly expensive). Overall this is not a place to miss. There's a €3 charge to get up but it's very much worth it. I would recommend coming late on a Sunday afternoon when it's quite quiet (also they were playing a hilariously eclectic selection of music, which I greatly enjoyed!)

R F.

Yelp
On a Sunday around 7:30pm, bad service, slow waiters, had to go pick the menu myself and order at the bar. Croquetas had goat cheese or some other strong cheese. Not soft bechamel sauce, but lumpy. The building itself is beautiful, good refuge on a cold night to have a drink. White Russian was 100% better at Cafe Comercial. Just go, have a drink, enjoy the architecture, and go to better places for tapas or pinchos.

Yelp
Best view of the city. Hands down. We got there before sunset and were able to capture some incredible pictures. But then, the sun started it's descent and the sky was on fire. The view was breathtaking. The food wasn't bad, not the best I had in Madrid, but solid. The drinks were lovely. I would totally go here again.
google avatar

Qui C.

Yelp
Best view of the city. I was feeling cheap and didn't want to pay the 4e per person to go up there because I wanted to get drinks and soak up the city. But it was well worth it for the view alone. There were plenty of places to sit and lounge and enjoy a drink. Their tinto de verrano were very tasty. Priced higher than most places at 6e, I guess I could expect that from this place though. I could spend hours there but too bad the clouds came and rain was just around the corner. Definitely a spot to hit up while it's beautiful in Madrid.

Yelp
Long overdue review. The only reason this place gets a great review is because of Our server Adrian! I had a reservation here and "something occurred" at least that's what the skinny twig of a host told us. We were left waiting for over 40 minutes for a dinner reservation and she didn't even bother to apologize. After dinner our wonderful server Adrian asked if everything had been pleasant I stated my displeasure with the long wait despite having a reservation and he quickly apologized and and was really kind about what had occurred and gave us a special token to compensate for that moment. Sometimes people in the industry just need to learn what attention to customer service really is, especially the host at this establishment. Positive experience thanks to Adrian!

Yelp
$12 for a view but you're pushed back by the guarded rail. I'm 5'4 and it held me back good. I was tip toeing to see the view. The view was under whelming after being on the roof top of Santa de Marie Pi in Barcelona for the view of Barcelona with Sagrada de Familia. You have to be tall to enjoy this place or have a drink in the bar leveled up a bit to see the view. I didn't stay long because the ticket lady downstairs pissed me off and I was on a time crunch. It was difficult because people in Madrid don't speak English compare to Barcelona (shocking since they catered to tourists too) Anyway, the ticket lady didn't have enough change from he $20 I gave her. She gave it back to me and said change. I didn't understand her and thought she wanted all my change. Well, I gave her all my change but I didn't have enough for a ticket and she yelled at me out of frustration. The girl behind me in line understood English and Spanish so she translated for me. I learned the ticket lady didn't have enough change. I told her to tell the lady to go get change. Problem solved. Don't yell at people lady. also, reading other yelpers reviews and others paid $2-$3? I paid $12!!!!! WTF! the ticket lady ripped me off!!!
google avatar

Celeste M.

Yelp
Best rooftop bar in Madrid!! The views are incredible, and the drinks are SO good! Big fan of the mojitos and piña coladas. You do have to pay €4 for entry, and the drinks are not inexpensive, but in my opinion, totally worth it.
google avatar

Faby C.

Yelp
Don't waste your money on the rooftop bar. They charge to go to the observation deck 4 euros per person. The floor was a little unstable and The servers were not seating people coming in. The place has a lot of potential and I wish they would be more organized or make a greater effort to enhance the experience. Good views.
google avatar

Erick S.

Yelp
All I can say is you eat with a spectacular view. I arrived at around 10am and was immediately greeted, the eggs with salmon are a great way to start off your day! Did I mention the view? You get to eat with a view of most of Madrid!
google avatar

Olya M.

Yelp
I went there like to the rooftop-bar. Actually it was only the view point from the museum, with entrance for 4 euro. It was full of people and not good organized. If case you want to spent a romantic evening, like I wanted, absolutely not here
google avatar

caly m.

Yelp
5 stars for the view. Drinks and snacks are 3.5 stars, which isn't bad. 4 euros per person for a ticket to the rooftop. The wait was around 15 minutes total to get access to the roof. Could be worse. If you're visiting Madrid, this is a spot to view the city from an aerial angle with 360 degree views. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Jane C.

Yelp
Best place to go to for best view of central Madrid during sunset. I vacationed to Spain with my friends for ten days and out of all the places we went to, the rooftop bar here played the best music and delivered the most relaxing vibe. It was the perfect way to end our trip. It's 4 Euros to go to the roof, but its so worth it. Don't miss out on this spot. Enjoy the music, get yourself a nice drink and take some memorable pictures.
google avatar

Anita G.

Yelp
We didn't get to eat at the rooftop restaurant because it was fully booked. So we had to pay to go up there to pay to get a drink up there...hummmm didn't like that :/ if we r going up to pay for €10 drinks then why we have to pay to ride the slow sauna (aka their elevator) up there? :/ besides from that the service was great. The place is beautiful and the views of the city are breath taking. Go see it if you are in Madrid! :)
google avatar

Nosniv X.

Yelp
The rooftop terrace has a surprising view of the whole city for only being 6 floors up. There is a charge to get to the roof but it is worth it especially as it gets close to sunset. We didn't try the drinks or the food since it looked to be a little like a tourist trap, but the space is definitely suited for an enjoyable evening of imbibing.
google avatar

Grace C.

Yelp
Went to the rooftop to catch the view but was a few minutes too late! It's 3 euros for students to go upstairs. The view is nice and worth the quick experience --- a ton of people there to take photos. I didn't drink or eat there, heard it could be a bit pricey.
google avatar

Jeffrey C.

Yelp
GORGEOUS views of Madrid. Definitely a MUST stop for visitors and locals alike. The bar up top is not extensive...just basic beer, wines, and liquors. The sangria is superb and pricing is not exuberant! Do yourself a favor and visit, but be sure to bring CASH EUROS for the cost to go to the top (approx 3-5 euros per person).
google avatar

Jesse F.

Yelp
Great rooftop spot for a drink around sunset and a great date spot. The views of Madrid are spectacular and the drinks are reasonably priced. The word is out on this place and there's a bit of a line to get in, but it wasn't too bad about an hour before sunset and moved fairly quick. It was much longer when I left right after sunset.

Q K.

Yelp
Went multiple times, my most memorable being during the Bordieu exhibition. Go to the top of the building -- from the terrace you can catch a breathtaking view of Madrid. Also, the cafeteria is beautiful. It's dressed in royal red and chandeliers, with posters of Judith Butler and the like on the walls. A nice place to grab a bite to eat and do some people-watching.

Pablo M.

Yelp
Impressive! during summer one may access to the top floor and enjoy the views of Cibeles square, the Citty Hall and Gran Vía street, visit the exhibitions and eat or drink something at the coffee shop in the ground floor ("La Pecera") while admiring the pictures of its ceiling.

Emily C.

Yelp
Breathtaking panoramic view of Madrid. However the atmosphere itself was underwhelming. There was a giant flat screen tv playing what looked like music videos, but there was no music or sound. The bar lacked sitting room. There was a bench for maybe 10 people hidden from the views. The drinks at the main bar made my boyfriend and me question of there was even alcohol in it. The bar at the lower level was much better- staff was friendly and they prepared our second mojitos extremely well! We finally got a place to sit around 2 am when people were leaving. I would give it a 5 if there was music or sitting room. Overall a lovely, but pretty overpriced place!

Yelp
In English and Spanish below.../ En inglés y en español más abajo I do not recommend at all to eat at the restaurante. The service is TERRIBLE and extremely rude. I´m a native speaker and the waitress was talking to me as if I was retarded. I was shocked because I was taking my friend from the US for the first time and she made us feel so bad, so so rude. I would like to encourgae everyone even if you are a tourist or you are living in Madrid if you see yourself in a situation like this it is your RIGHT to ask for a complaint form (hoja de reclamaciones in spanish) to the restaurant/shop/bar/hotel/hostel whatever. Doesn´t matter if you don´t know spanish you can write in english the form is in english too, but it is your right and they have to give it to you it´s mandatory for them. Usually when you as for a Complaint Form in Spain they try to buy you offering different things, getting the full meal for free, or giving you free gifts so you won´t write the form....seriously, is a very bad thing for businesses in Spain. Because the more they get they can even get the business shut down. Anyway, apart from this...I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTURANT. You can go have a drink and enjoy the views, but there are better rooftops in Madrid with better service where you can go...Hope it helps.

Yelp
They charge 3 euro only for having access to the rooftop. But the view is really amazing and prices are also ok for such an athmosphere - but naturally higher than normally in Madrid. Perfect place to go with people visiting Madrid for a Citytrip!
google avatar

Luis B.

Yelp
We found this spot after midnight, paid 2 euros to get in and we hit the rooftop. Nice place, spacious, plenty of seating. They featured art work, which was cool. The scenery was nice. Drink prices are in line with the area but the only draw back was that no music was played. I'm not sure if that's a Madrid thing but it made for a nice convo night

Eun J.

Yelp
The best view and amviance but sadly really bad food. Bad food in Madrid ? Yes it is possible here. Be careful with choice.

Yelp
I'm on the rooftop as I write this - the worst service I've ever experienced! The one star is purely because of the view. DO NOT EAT HERE DO NOT EAT HERE DO NOT EAT HERE Overpriced and poorly presented food. Also, the staff wear sunglasses so you can't see their eyes, it's very off putting. If you're gonna wear sunglasses, they should at least be translucent...

Yelp
Awesome rooftop terrace in the city center, especially on a nice day. Great views and fun seating (some lounge chairs, some pillows and low tables on fake grass and some cocktail style tables. There's also a more "dining area" as well. A little pricy (3 euros) to just be up there for a short time, worth it if staying longer (ie., to read, lounge, hangout with a group of friends, etc..). We had a drink each (beer and wine) which was reasonably priced and was going to order food but our server never came back, was impossible to track down and the prices were expensive for what they served (based on observation)). But, again, worth a visit for the views and a drink or two.

Fe C.

Yelp
Great bar to watch the sunset in Madrid if you are visiting. Make sure to get there early it gets crowded especially with tourists. If you grab a seat to eat it is worth it.
