Time Out Editors On The Best European Travel Destinations For 2026
Also in Cirencester, the Amphitheatre is specifically mentioned as one of the places where you can dive into the town’s ‘bags of Roman history’, reinforcing its draw for history-minded visitors in 2026. - Liv Kelly
I was staying at the Travelodge and came to see the most excellent Corinium Museum and the Amphitheatre. Google said there was free parking but doesn’t say it was on the street. It was an interesting experience to stand in the middle area and climb the banks where so much has happened in Roman occupation. There is also a pretty woodland walk as well. Also saw the Monument which is off to the right, down steps and over a little wooden bridge.

Lovely hidden gem, with good signage, footpaths, seating, and a small, free car park. Lots of trees and birdsong, Amazing ruins covered in grass, but it's a shame you can't see the stones

Somewhat underwhelming overall. Nice for a walk from the town center (though walking there is not well posted). Not sure why, and I had not read any reviews so my bad, but I was somehow expecting a few stones or remnants, but it is basically just a grassy area where the amphitheater was.

Ancient mounds where Roman amphitheatre used to be . Fun to walk over the top of the mounds and interesting to read the plaques . 15 to 20 mins is all that is needed. Open access at any time. Car park at scouts hut by the side of area.

I didn't know what to expect so I didn't have high hopes. The mixed reviews that I read online deflated me, but I decided to go and see with my own eyes.
I did enjoy every second. The place was green, clean, no trash, no dog fouling and no noise. We walked on top of it, all round, then we went back to the free car park.
I think the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For us 3, it was great and we even saw a little Bambi dear in the woods, so it was all worth it.

Quiet place good for walking. But the little path near the small car park is a bit dirty. Can see dog poo along the path.

Impressive. Adds to one's appreciation of the significance of Cirencester in terms of British Roęmano history. Nice place for a picnic on a sunny day.

Fun to roll down the hills, also good fun in winter for sledging! If you have kids to take with you of course
It's actually a really beautiful place tucked into a corner of Ciren. It took ages to find it but once we did it was worth it.
