Wine for the People to Open Austin Wine Bar & Bottle Shop Citizen Wine | Eater Austin

"Opening next year as a combined tasting room, wine bar, bottle shop, cellar, and community education space, this project from a local wine producer aims to be an inviting, jargon-free place for both wine novices and enthusiasts. It will also serve as the meeting space for the producer’s wine club. A Kickstarter campaign is raising funds to find and build the brick-and-mortar location, with rewards that include preview-night invitations, apparel, pop-up event tickets, wine consultations, and other perks." - Nadia Chaudhury

An excellent choice for an easy dinner. A very pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. Friendly and attentive staff. Excellent choices of wine and champagne. The steak sandwich is so tender and tasty! Absolute BEST steak sandwich I have had! Best pulled pork sandwich that I have had in the area.

Decided to try Citizen Vine after it was recommended to me by a friend that said she and her family have been coming for some time. Went to celebrate a family bday with a party of 9. As soon as we arrived the staff seemed annoyed to have to accommodate us and our waitress wasn’t too friendly. When it was time to order my mom decided to change her initial order and my Aunt ordered a Caesar salad with chicken (can’t think of anything more basic) and was told she may have to wait a little bit longer because they use fresh chicken. I ordered the fall salad with chicken and when the food arrived, mine was one of the first plates to come. They mistakenly brought my mom the first thing she ordered, along with what she changed it to, then we waited forever for my aunts chicken Caesar salad. Finally, when our waitress came over we reminded her that my mom had changed her order and we were still waiting on my aunts salad. Instead of being truthful, our waitress explained that “the WiFi went out” while she was taking our order and they would comp us 20% off the check. The food was good but the service was awful and I won’t be back, which is disappointing because I had high hopes.

Been coming here for years. A favorite of my wife and I to hang out and catch up. Good selection of wine and they have beer on tap. The food is very good and they have a nice patio.

First time being here, wonderful and friendly staff. The place is comfortable and inviting. Food is mouth watering and amazing. Highly recommend.

Google
First time here. I love a coffeehouse that has a peaceful ambience, super friendly staff, and good coffee. This place has all of it. The Citizen Grind and Citizen Vine are now located in the same suite (145) so you can enjoy coffee, brunch, and Wine all in the same location depending on what time of day you come.

Google
Great wining and dining experience! My friend and I dropped in for dinner and we were not disappointed. The food and wine were great and the service friendly and on point. We had the beef stroganoff, caesar salad and a bottle of Conundrum. This is one of the best restaurants in Lincoln.

Google

I have visited a few times now, the Tacos keep you coming back! Loved the atmosphere and customer service. Only room for improvement is the sitting is a little cramped and often slightly crowded when the weather does not allow outside seating.

Yelp
We came here for happy hour and ended up having dinner along with some wine. The place was full and only had seating at the bar. Our server, Kayla, ensured we would be warm if we sat at tables outside. She turned on the outdoor heaters immediately, and we were very cozy. Kayla was very attentive and provided great customer service. I had a Caesar salad that was on happy hour for $10, and it was delicious. I also had the crostini and ravioli from their specials. Both were delicious, but the ravioli was the best I've ever tasted. It was pricey but i can say it's the best I've had, and I just got back from Italy. 1000% would recommend and I'm looking forward to going back.

Yelp
Delicious food. I always get their Detroit style deep dish pizzas. The only one I didn't like was the Brie baby. The free for all seating can be annoying. I get the vibe they're going for, but when it's busy maybe just make an actual queue. They have this corner of couches and lounge chairs which I find unnecessary and uncomfortable to sit in if you're partaking in any food. The wait time for receiving your food can be lengthy but the wait is worth it. The service is good, but maybe a little sparse. they play the most random music ever. Maybe make a better playlist but honestly that adds to the charm. It's usually freezing in there so bring a coat

Yelp
What a fun and interesting place! We came with friends and there was already a crowd when we arrived at 5:30. That caused us to sit outside in their enclosed patio, but the heat lamps made it just fine, even though it was quite cold outside. This place is primarily about wine and tapas or small plates. After being comfortably seated we perused the menu and decided to share an Amador County Barbera, a nice hearty, yet smooth, red. It was so good we ended up sharing a second bottle. The wine was served in beautiful stemmed glasses, but the water, brought in a carafe, was accompanied by cheap plastic cups. That felt a bit like it was taking away the quality of everything else. We ordered the charcuterie board and it was fabulous. You get to choose some of the items, cheese and protein, and they have a good selection. It was a feast. Perhaps the only downside was there were just four pieces of the salami. That seemed a bit skimpy in comparison to the other items. The board, however, was beautifully presented. Afterwards we individually ordered a couple dishes and I got the poke nachos which were delicious. It could have used some extra chips as the poke was plentiful. It was also super spicy which is just great for me. Overall it was quite tasty. Service was incredibly fun, friendly and kind. It was obvious they enjoyed their job, and we enjoyed chatting with them. I really like this place and if you're just out for a relaxing glass of good wine and some snacks, although plentiful portions, this is a wonderful spot to enjoy it. The price point is also quite good.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible place. Walked in for dinner and stood there for at least 10 minutes while all 3 ladies working looked at us, walked by us and walked around us. I understand if they are busy but a simple acknowledgment that they would be with us as soon as they could would go a long way. 0/10 wont ever go back

Yelp
Checked out this place again. It's been awhile, new owners new employees. The food was so so. My wife and I split a pizza. The outside area of pizza was pretty good, as you ventured towards the middle the dough was moist . The cheese board wasn't as good as in the past. The wine was just okay. I wish they still served Pine Ridge Cabernet! Now as far as the service, sketch. Not that great. The owner was there checking on the tables that were obviously friends of his. No, never came by our table of four. They had a guy there that was peddling his wine, again was just okay. We used to come here about every two weeks, now don't think we'll make this a habit again ‍
google avatar

Yelp
Five stars because the chef sanitized his whole kitchen to make our egg allergic friend's food. That kind of peace of mind is awesome! He even came to our table and explained what he did and what changes he made to her meal and why. This place never disappoints. Staff is always friendly and the food tasty. Festive atmosphere for the holiday season with music at a talkable level.

Yelp
It's a really nice setting with a large selection of good wine to choose from. Me and my wife's new favorite wine bar. Food is excellent and there is a bit of something for everyone. I was happy to see the servers sample the newly opened bottles prior to serving to assure the quality and taste. Hands down much better than the 12 Wine Bar and Kitchen just across the way which will happily serve you substandard grog. Don't waste your time there just go on over to Citizen Vine. They Rock!!

Yelp
Great place to hang out at; Get some eats/drinks and just chill with friends & family. We had a big party and sat outside on the patio area. Service was more than great, and the different foods were perfect. We had many different items, including salad, pizza, charcuterie board, tacos and wings. Such an amazing variety of foods to eat. Should've posted this a long time ago!

Roxanne E.

Yelp
Great food and service, good ambiance. Wine selection was okay (not great) but I am from Sonoma county with access to great wines.

Yelp
We stopped by at Citizen Vine last Sunday . It had been awhile since we had gone . It was just as good as we remember! They have a lot of seating inside but we sat outside in a cute little area with small water fountains very relaxing. They also have some cute outdoor lights . Our waiter Derek he was amazing !! Super friendly and attentive! We ordered the white wine flight and champagne the champagne flight . I really enjoyed the blue champagne I had to get a glass of it after my flight. We shared the charcuterie board I highly recommend getting it . It's one of the best I have ever had so delicious! It's also a generous size . For dessert we ordered the beignets they are so fluffy and delicious ! They came with a side of chocolate sauce . Overall this is a great place to have some great wine or champagne they even have some beers on tap . The food is delicious more of tapas style but very delicious the charcuterie board is a must try and it's pretty big great to share . I highly recommend this place so glad we have it in Lincoln can't wait to go back soon !

Yelp
This is such a fun wine bar with a variety of great wines and the food selection was excellent! We enjoyed happy hour wines for $10 , a salad special and the pulled pork sandwich! Great place for happy hour, dinner with family/friends and the staff was awesome! Can't wait to come back to try more!

Yelp
This is our second time here. Our first was for Happy Hour tapas back in December of 2018. This time, we had reservations for Mother's Day brunch. So stoked to have another chef plated experience having dined almost monthly pre-pandemic at nearby Fourk which is CV's younger sibling. Got in 10 minutes before our 12 noon time slot, so we got to pick our table for three spot. Noticed that the patio was now covered with heatlamps on the ceiling, Military badges adorned the side of the bar and there was beer on tap (out of order sign taped on it though). I got the Bottomless Mimosa, and the wife had the coffee. The only thing was, I had to flag one of the runners to get my second dose and got up to the bar to grab a pour of my third and final mimosa. Not a huge deal as the two servers had their hands full with a sold-out brunch. I think they made it up with a $10 off our final bill. Anyway, the food. Son smothered his Chicken & Waffles with the maple syrup. Gobbled the DF poultry but he wasn't a fan of the homemade batter cake. I, however, finished them as they were belgian waffles and were way better than others we've had. The Mother (or my wife) had the Crab Cakes Benedict, and that was another winning dish. Since It was her day, she got first choice (every day is her day BTW). When dining out, we always try different entrees. I chose the Citizen Vine Breakfast Sandwich. It was served in sourdough, and the provolone, ham, scrambled egg, and tomato combination hit the veritable spot that was my hunger.

Yelp
Citizen vine has upped their food game! New chef, new culinary experience. I've always loved Citizen Vine for the amazing wine selection, service and ambiance. But now, they've rejoined the local tapas options and I'm very excited about this. We tried the Chicago style pizza which was phenomenal, paired with some amazing red wines. This place has been, and now even more so, a stand-out option in the local restaurant/wine bar scene and I'm stoked that things are a-changing in a familiar direction. Can't wait to come back and try something new under this new food god.

Yelp
This was recommended to us by a friend of the family and it did not disappoint. Wonderful charcuterie, board and amazing staff. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
I recently attended a group buffet dinner at Citizens Vine. The food was average and disappointing. unfortunately, we found the food serviced way too salty. Disappointing.

Yelp
Visiting my friends in Rocklin, with so many restaurants to try, this was one I'll return to again and again. Their wine selection is fantastic, the small plates we got were made from high quality ingredients and executed well. We sat at the bar and got to speak to the staff, including, Austin, who made our night even better. They also have a wine club, which if I lived closer, would have joined in a heart beat. Lucky are you that live nearby.

Yelp
Nice wine bar in the Twelve Bridges center. They have a happy hour with discounted wine, beer and a few snacks. We had a couple dips, the corn elote and artichoke. We also ordered a chicken flatbread off their main menu and a very tasty brown butter cake topped with apples and the key lime pie. Perfect for a rainy afternoon.

Yelp
This is our second time and we enjoyed both experiences. Briana (Bri) helped us both times and she was great. Provided good recommendations on food and wine. Manager was very nice too...didn't get his name but he recommended the tacos and Caprese sandwich, both very good. We also got the toffee dessert with ice cream. Yum. We will be back for sure. Pictures are from the two times we went.

Yelp
Fabulous place. Taco Tuesday is not only delicious, it's a fun place to go. Great wine and food. I love going there.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and friendly family biz, the Angry Goat Detroit style pizza is one of the best we have had anywhere. jalepenos , goat cheese, pepperoni, red sauce , and a honey drizzle brings the sweet heat!

Caitie P.

Yelp
Citizen Vine has a great atmosphere and really tasty wine selection. The service was an absolute let down. At first when I noticed the service was slow, I realized there was only 2 servers and was understanding. As the evening went on it became undeniable that the servers lacked customer service basics. Unfriendly, no smiles and chatted amongst themselves while ignoring customers. I am willing to try this location again based on the food and wine being wonderful but if the staff isn't reminded of basic customer service by management, I think the staff could really hurt this business.

Yelp
Went in for dinner tonight and fell in love with this place! My wife and I came in for a date night and started with a glass of the White Blend and JP Prosecco on happy hour and they were both delicious. The bartenders were super friendly and knowledgeable and made me feel at home. We ordered the Poke Nachos as an appetizer and the fish was sushi quality (I'm a sushi connoisseur) and then the Spinach dip and Detroit style Brie Baby pizza! The pizza was the best I have had in many years and I eat a lot of pizza. The poke had great sauces and wontons, and the spinach dip was super creamy and delicious! We finished the night with the butter cake and it reminded me of a homemade cake my aunt used to make me with a scoop of ice cream and a drizzle of caramel. Great place for awesome food, amazing people, and an over all spectacular time!

Yelp
What a special event at citizen Vine on Sunday. The cheese expert. Chuck did a fantastic job first and his selection of cheeses and then the pairing with the sparkling wines. I'm not much of a champagne/sparkling wine drinker, but his choices were excellent. Only need to be out done by his pairing with a Primo selection of cheese. Add in chef's expertise with some homemade jams and other great selections to go along with the sparkling wine and cheese. All in all a great event reasonably priced with a staff that was very attentive and could not have been nicer. A+ plus for a very nice Sunday afternoon. Treat. Look forward to attending more of their special events

Yelp
Got here at 9:37 PM on Friday night with a group of 5. Found a spot of couches in the corner. We're advised immediately that the kitchen was closed and we had 10 minutes or order drinks. No introduction to our server or how are you, just what do you guys want. Fun! We 4 of us ordered, 3 glasses of wine and one sangria... $75.00 a drink. When our drinks got here almost 3 minutes later our check also arrived at the same time! Pretty much drink and get out is how we were greeted. Not sure why I would come here again except for well I can't think of anything. Nothing special. Advice for owner: treat your guests right, this experience sucked. Do better!

Yelp
I love citizen vine. It's the perfect spot for a girls night, date night, mom escape, etc lol. The tapas style food is perfect so you can try a couple things. They change the menu throughout the year so there's always something new to try. Today they had these Detroit style pizzas and the one was had was so delicious! It was spicy goat cheese something lol... a bunch of deliciousness! Check it out and enjoy good wine and food!

Missy S.

Yelp
Love everything about Citizen Bine. Tremendous choice of wines. Amazing appetizers. Joined their family.

Yelp
Would not rate this 5 stars. Lucky to get 2 stars. The lady as host / server upon entering was not welcoming at all. It wasn't quite busy but she insisted we had to wait to sit. A gal walked in after us n the host greeted her n sat her down right away. No reservations so ---- why we were held up? After that I asked , why are we still waiting? She said - oh is there a situation" - My friend asked - we came in before do we aren't clear why the other person was already seated..? She continued being rude n said" oh is this a thing" ??? What does that mean... ???? We still waited to be seated , honestly should have left: Our service was ever worse --- we asked to try a certain wine - she gave us a very small taste cup to "share" a 1 oz taste of wine . Not joking. Food - we did not receive good service. - asked for more bread with the goat cheese dish - told it was made to order - they finally brought after 20 minutes - really ??? clearly unacceptable. Will never go again. Do not recommend it's not worth the aggravation. Go elsewhere

George C.

Yelp
This is an amazing place for Date Night and or Friends Get Together. The Detroit Style pizza was amazing. Service was First Rate. I ordered the Angry Goat Detroit Style Pizza. I highly recommend this pizza. The employees are very knowledgeable and helpful in picking the right wine for my pallet. When in Lincoln? This place is a must stop.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and the charcuterie was delicious!!! We were visiting the area from Twin Falls Idaho and decided to check out this place. Glad we did!
google avatar

Yelp
Friendly staff and pretty good food / wine selections, however I find it kind of crazy that they won't have their AC on when it's 104 degrees out. Even our waitress was sweating. I won't be coming back.

Destinee C.

Yelp
Wow if I could I'd give Citizen Vine 10 stars! We came to celebrate my birthday on Saturday and what a nice treat. The food selection, service, and overall ambiance is amazing. We ordered the cheese board, cauliflower bites, and a couple of deserts. Everything was delicious. I'm already thinking of my next trip. Also a huge shout out to our server Derick for making our visit extra special and going above and beyond. Thank you!

Andreanna N.

Yelp
SUCH A VIBE. Gorgeous spot with tons of room and pet friendly on the patio! Delicious wine and UNREAL charcuterie boards (must try the pork belly and garlic confeit). Austin is a gem. We will be back'

Yelp
Let me start my review with the fact that my husband and I have visited Citizen Vine a total of 4 times, our first time was in November and the last being last night, Saturday 2/10/24. We truly have given this establishment enough opportunities to turn us into long term customers, but that will not be the case. I could give a detailed review of each of the four visits, and the minor issues we've had with each, but I will just try to keep it simple. I will, as I always do, start with the positives. This is truly a darling little place, with welcoming decor and lighting that has a rustic/industrial feel. I appreciate the softer lighting elements and the music being played on the quieter side. Also, they have a great wine selection that is served in beautiful glasses. Secondly, Bree has been our primary server twice and was always attentive, friendly and welcoming. Now for the main reason we will not be returning. I understand this is primarily a wine bar and I have no issues with the wine selection or pricing. That being said there is a serious issue with the food consistency and quality control coming out of the kitchen. We've had issues with some of the food items but the most glaring problem has been the "Detroit style" pizzas being served to us with burned crusts. I understand these are denser pizzas that might take longer to cook but food should not be served burned. I will say that both times this occurred, including last night we did not complain. Yes we could have said something and possibly had them remade but we did not. We try hard to be gracious customers. The first time there was some burned parts of the outer crust which we just didn't eat. I did not fully realize how burned our entire pizza was from last night until I went to reheat today what we brought home. Not only were the edges burned but the entire bottom was too. If I had looked at the bottom of the pizza last night I certainly would have said something. I'm just not ok with spending any amount, let alone $20 for a small 4 piece pizza that is burned and black. Like I said we have had some other smaller issues with some of the food we have been served but this by far was the biggest. Actually this new pizza menu item was one of the main reasons we came back for a 4th time. Even though our 2 pizzas were slightly burned the first time, the taste of these pizzas was amazing. On a side note, when the chef has delivered our food to us, which is a nice touch, he was always very nice.

Yelp
Becoming one of our favorite local spots for a quick dinner. Stopped by the other night for their taco Tuesday special. Two tacos and chips & salsa for $10. The tacos are not only large they are among the tastiest I have had. You have a choice of some great wines by the glass or a variety of draft beers. I selected a hazy IPA which went perfectly with the tacos. We have also stopped in on other days and sampled their small plates. Without exception they all have been excellent.
google avatar

Yelp
Citizen Vine is fantastic. Love Lindsey & Bri. Fantastic service. Yummy food. Great wine selection. The chicken bacon tacos are a must. Need gluten-free. Just tell them. Lots of gf options. I love this place+

Yelp
Nice place to stop in for a sip or three when craving a glass of wine while downtown in Folsom. Great appetizers too.

Yelp
Big shout out to Citizen Vine for a wonderful evening. We took a group of 28 people here last night. The menu was pre-set buffet style. The food was delicious, the ambiance was wonderful and shout out to Chef Ian, Austin, Ken and Lindsey for making this a great experience. A good time was had by all.

Yelp
Rainy day lunch? Yes Please, Get out of the house! We had the Chicken Pesto Sandwich- so so good! Bread soft, thick and fresh! Flavor bomb! We also had House chop salad which was fine as well. Others had the soup of day (tomato) with Grilled Cheese, delicious! I had to try the blue Sparkling Wine while here -yum! Loved the friendly and attentive servers .

Yelp
Consistently a great place for food and service. Large booths along the long expanse of windows and a covered patio.

Yelp
Great place for a date! My husband took me there and the atmosphere was nice and food and wine was really good!

Yelp
Pleasing ambiance. The food is great, as is the service. Coupled with a decent selection of craft beers and wines you can't go wrong.
google avatar

Yelp
We had such a great date night here. It was a a random choice on Yelp and on our must try list. So glad we went. We love that they support our first responders and everyone was extremely friendly. We recommend for a couples date night, friends get together or even one on one date. It has a wonderful vibe and friendly atmosphere. The food is not to bad but we will mainly be back for the drink And chill atmosphere.

Yelp
Something has changed. Not sure if the place sold or what but service is almost non existent. Great ambiance, but service is really lacking.
google avatar

Yelp
One of favorite local spots! Great happy hour, small plates, and fun environment. We enjoy the rotating menu, although really miss the tri-tip grilled cheese ;)
google avatar

Will P.

Yelp
Came here on a date and we had a great time. The wine selection was extensive, and our waitress was super nice and let us try to the two we were torn between. We both ended up liking each other's choices! It's fun being able to pick different small dishes. The brisket sandwich and brown butter cake were my favorites. Everything we had tasted pretty good, but didn't seem high quality. I was disappointed with the ahi. All and all, I felt gross after and the next morning. May come back for a glass of wine and get dinner somewhere else!
google avatar

Dalia K.

Yelp
Good service and good wine. The cauliflower bites were delicious! I would come back. It was chill with a lot of seating

Ruth H.

Yelp
Excellent food and service! The atmosphere was great too! My new favorite place for wine and tapas!

Yelp
Way over priced!! outgrew his small, intimate, delightful bar and opened up this place with higher priced ones and appealing to a more elite crowd.
