citizenM Boston Back Bay hotel (Boston, Massachusetts) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Located in the new Lyrik development, steps from the Hynes Convention Center and a short walk to Fenway, citizenM Back Bay feels like a natural fit for Boston’s most walkable neighborhood. It is the brand’s second outpost in the city, this time with 399 compact rooms, XL beds, and tablet-controlled everything, from blackout blinds to mood lighting. Public spaces are bright, with original art, neon signage, and a wraparound rooftop bar made for sunset views. Check-in is self-serve, but staff, aka ambassadors, handle the rest with zero fuss." - Tablet Hotels

Here’s a polished 100-word version of your review:||||The hotel is in a fantastic location, making it easy to get around and explore the area. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel welcome. They were always helpful, friendly, and genuinely happy to assist with anything I needed. Their warm attitude really added to the overall experience. The décor throughout the hotel was fun, colorful, and cheerful, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere. It felt both comfortable and stylish, with plenty of character that made the stay memorable. Overall, it was a great place to stay, and I would definitely return in the future.||

Location is awesome, right across from T station. Great shower, room fully customisable (lights, blinds, etc. from touch of a button). Room is tiny however, bed enclosed on 3 sides so need to climb over each other to get in and out. Good gym. Good shared spaces and they are very much used, probably because the room is so tiny you are kind of forced not to spend long amounts of time there. Great view from window. Room is fully black out so slept very well aside from hearing doors of other rooms opening and closing (heavy door, need to push open and it’s quite loud). Very environmentally conscious place which is great. Very little privacy in room and nowhere to take a break from whoever you are sharing with. So fine for a short stay but I imagine it would feel very claustrophobic during a longer stay.

If you don't need all the bells and whistles of a hotel room, this should be your place! It's in a great location, close access to the city bikes, close to Fenway and MGM Music Hall. You can customize a lot about your room, and the blackout curtains were PERFECTION. The bed is up against the two walls so you have to climb in but it was such a cool experience with a great view out our window and a very meticulously designed space. We were hesitant at first, but really enjoyed it. The ipad to control everything is a nice touch, but there also were switches if you aren't an ipad remote kind of person. I'd stay here again!

I had to stay overnight in Boston due to a missed flight. Found this option via Southwest Hotels website. The building looks new, inside and out. Vibrant and modern hotel. FRESH is what comes to mind. The staff was friendly and helpful. Check in and check out simple. Room is tiny but that use of the space was maximized in the most practical and delightful way! Comfy king size bed right next to the large window with a great view of the city. Day and Night shades controlled remotely with an iPad. The iPad is used to control all the lighting and media in the room, or you can use your own smartphone. It was very quiet. Got a good night's rest. Common areas are clean, fun and vibrant. Breakfast was an amazing buffet witha good variety of fresh food, very high quality. Coffee fresh to order. I've posted a review on 2 other platforms besides this one, and I'm happy to do so!

Google
An amazing hotel!!! I love the conceptual receptionist table A+,everyone was so helpful, the rooms were cleaned, the bed was comfy, and the breakfast bar was great!! Probably better than any US breakfast bar I’ve ever had. I so recommend this hotel, and I will be back!! Oh, the location is perfect. Walking distance to all things you want to visit, plus more.

Our experience at this hotel was wonderful! The hotel is fun and laid out in a very thoughtful way, as are the rooms. The bed was super-comfortable and the bedroom and bathroom very clean and modern. Sleek design yet playful. The staff was happy and welcoming and helpful when we needed something. Overall great!

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The location is excellent, and the decor is unique and charming. The atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming. What impressed us most was the staff—especially Jameson, who was incredibly kind, professional, and helpful throughout our stay. His assistance made our trip so much smoother. We truly appreciate his warm and attentive service. Highly recommended, and we’ll definitely stay here again!

It’s my favourite hotel so far! It’s very clean, hi-tech, lots of art and inspiring books around, beautiful terrace. The room has everything that you need. The bed is so comfortable. The blinds and sound isolation made me sleep here so well. The location is perfect, lots of cool places around. Breakfast is very good. I love to come here to seek inspiration and it always works!

Yelp
DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU HAVE A CAR!!! Otherwise, this is an amazing property! The hotel does not offer parking, and the best options are two parking garages nearby that charge $50 a night with no in-and-out privileges (one of them has "hours of operation" which will limit access to your car late night and/or early morning). Street parking is scarce and metered (took me almost an hour circling around and around to find something). The property itself is AWESOME!! They provide self-check-in stations (with an attendant). The lounge (and ouside patio) is spacious, relaxing and inviting with a late night bar (that serves a limited menu). The rooms are clean, modern and minimalistic. There are eateries all around and a decent walk to Fenway Park. I'd definitely stay here again without a car!!!

Yelp
It felt like a very international experience! Plus...the views...at check in they ask which view you want! Choose the river (Newbury). I stayed for business and didn't spend a lot of time in the room. Spent 2 nights and worked from the lobby one morning. Check in is self serve! Breakfast buffet was fire. Not included but worth it. Just the lattes or specialty coffee inclusion is worth it! The rooms are tight but very functional. Reminds me of Asian cities...the iPad controls everything in your room which is very futuristic - a few glitches were annoying but worked through it. The mood settings are so fun. Definitely a different experience but once you embrace it, pretty cool. Gym was great, very airy and had options including a water based rower! Very walkable as well, about 20 minutes to back bay.

Yelp
We had a great 2-night stay at CitizenM. The check-in process was super easy, thanks to the kiosk where you can check in, pay, and create your room keys all in one go. Our room had a similar feel to a place we stayed in Singapore, but CitizenM took it a step further with more tech-savvy features. You can control the blinds, TV, lights--basically everything--with a tablet. Plus, you can set the lighting mood to your liking. We also enjoyed the breakfast buffet, and the bar and bites were a nice touch with late hours. The only downside was the lack of burgers and wings on the menu. Also, they don't allow outside food in the dining area. I would definitely stay here again when in Boston.

Yelp
I went here for the bar and had a great experience! The bar is on the second floor and is attached to a lovely terrace. I ordered my drink at the bar and then took it outside with me. The terrace vibes were great and it was quite empty when I went (the bartender said it gets busy when there is a Red Sox game or convention at hynes). Overall I'd definitely recommend this spot and I can't wait until the 14th floor rooftop bar finally opens!

Yelp
Affordable hotel in the heart of downtown Boston. It's very modern from the lobby area to the rooms. Check in was a breeze. We opted for the top floor with a view and it was great! I had fun using the tablet or their app from my phone to access everything in our room, lights, tv, blinds, AC, etc. Our room is small but has a king size bed lol. It has all the necessities we need and apparently the water from the faucet is safe to drink, and that's what I did. We opted to add their breakfast buffet in our reservation and it was a variety of choices for $20. They have hot food such as scrambled eggs, bacon, beans and corned beef with potatoes. French pastries like croissant and pain au chocolate, cereals, blueberry and banana muffins, yogurt, fresh fruits, smoked salmon, and coffee. They also have barista coffees which you can purchase. The hotel has a bar that is open 24/7. We went for a drink and their draft beers were reasonably priced. I just wish they have more options for snacks to partner with their alcoholic drinks like cheese platter for the wines or chicken wings for the beers. Since they had none of those, I decided to just get the hummus with pita chips. It was good and plenty for $8.50. It was a great experience and we would definitely stay here again if we get a chance.

Yelp
This hotel reminds me of a font. Like Helvetica Now, it's refined with perfect spacing and clarity, especially the tall, waterproof, well-appointed shower cube with high rain head. Ultra-clean and minimalist. Like Avenir Next, it's "hipster elegant" (think Virgin Hotel) with a polished modernism. Like Futura, it's geometric with sleek branding. Like Neue Haas Grotesk, it's simultaneous sharp and smooth. Like Sora, it is digital-age with a subtle tech feel that is somehow warm, especially the large, well-appointed social spaces and digital controls for media, climate, and blackout blinds. Like Gotham, it's bold and modern with a super clean presence. Like TT Norms Pro, it's geometrically precise but inviting. Like Quicksand, you will want to sink into your weird futuristic train/dorm room XL king bed and fluffy pillows lodged against the sound-proof wall-to-wall window with drive-in theater-like widescreen smart flatscreen. Like Overpass, it's near major freeways and commerce centers, perfect for tourists. Like Work Sans, you will want to be without work, but there's plenty of cubby space for laptop business. If it fits your budget, and you don't mind the "European" size, this is an excellent choice. Overall, it's Grand Hotel, bold.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I spent Valentine's Day at the CitizenM Back Bay location this weekend and we absolutely loved it. I'd stayed at the Northstation location a few years prior and we were having dinner on Newbury St, so this seemed perfect. I love the contemporary, art deco style of this hotel. Super vibrant and very well maintained. The rooms are cozy, perfect for individuals or couples. We didn't have any issues with our room. We loved that the tap was drinkable and they had a station by the bar to fill your water bottle with cold water. Stunning view of Boston and the Charles River. We were also able to hook our Netflix up to the TV easily. Because my boyfriend signified on the reservation that it was for V-Day, they were kind enough to provide us with a Happy V-Day sign and some balloons, as well as two "free drink" cards to use at their bar! So thoughtful. After dinner we popped by the bar, which was pretty busy. We were served quickly and the drinks were delicious! Bar staff is super friendly, they even let us get a bottled sprite on the house. We took our drinks to another part of the common space and played some chess. To our surprise, we found another "free drink" card that the staff had hidden for guests to find! We thought it was a riot and my boyfriend was delighted to score another free drink. The next morning we just wanted a small snack to hold us over before heading out to get brunch. We stopped by their breakfast area and they let us know the full breakfast was $20/person (very reasonable). However, since we each only wanted a pastry and some juice, we asked to buy it a la carte (which was an option for pastries I believe). The staff behind the bar let us take it for free! We were so touched. The orange juice tasted freshly squeezed and the blueberry muffins are to DIE for! Clearly they care about their guests here. We had such an awesome experience in the short stay we had and we are already planning to go back for a weekend trip soon. Would highly recommend!!!

Yelp
4.5 Stars Pros: -The staff are super accommodating and it seems like they will help you with pretty much anything. -The breakfast is amazing. I love European-style breakfast buffets. There are lots of healthy (and non-healthy) options lol, and you can even build your own lox avocado toast. -Incredible views of the city from your room. -High tech touches (room controls through an Ipad!), and awesome blackout curtains. I woke up at 8 AM thinking it was 2 AM. You can probably sleep for 48 hours without noticing. -The workspace lobby is super cool, and the decor and random books make the whole place have a fun vibe. I am pretty sure there are lots of college kids that come here just to have a nice space to study. -The location, obviously is a huge con. You can walk outside and be on Newbury street, walk across the bridge to MIT/Cambridge, or hop on the T or bus to get anywhere in Boston/Cambridge (bus and train stop are both next to the hotel). In Between: -The gym is small and can get very crowded but it's clean, the equipment is very modern, and the views can't be beat. Cons: -The rooms are legitimate shoe boxes, lol. The space efficiency is commendable, but you won't want to chill in there much especially if you're sharing. Obviously the pros here outway the cons - so if you don't chill much in your hotel room it should be an enjoyable experience for you :)

Yelp
This hotel opened up about 8 weeks ago I think they said. I was excited to try it out. I had stayed at a CitizenM hotel in the Northstation area before. So I was well aware of the tiny rooms and all before staying at this one. I had no idea there was one so close to Newbury Street. One of the greatest shopping areas in Boston and it is located across from a T stop. When you walk in there is a small lobby then you take elevator to main lobby/ lounge/bar area. And wow I was blown away by this lobby/lounge. I had seen pictures before hand online of it but seeing it in person is much different. There are many little nooks that one can do work, study, or just hang. It is an open concept lounge/ lobby but they have different little areas/ sections. They have this cute/ cozy area with couches and a fire place with a Tv. There are about 3-4 tvs in the lounge area. The art and decorations are so fun too. They bring the life into this place. I could talk about the lobby and lounge area all day that is how fun/ decorated out it is. On to the rooms. As I said they are tiny as you see in pictures but they have mostly everything you need. There is a big bed that takes up half the room. Shower/toilet area/ sink and an open concept closet area. I had some issues with my first room. The deadbolt lock up top was I guess screwed in wrong and my sink did not drain properly. It took me 3 calls for some one to come up and fix it though no one came up. The third time I called down they had said that there had been in the logs that this room had a previous complaint about the lock and they do not know how it was able to be open for me to use this room. They changed my room and this room is better but the front door handle does not push down so it makes the door alot harder to open. Also, the switches for the shades are a bit wacky you have to press down on them in a certain way for them to work. Everything in the room is controlled by an ipad: the temp of room/ you tv channels/ lights and color of lights in your room. They do have a bar area that seemed nice and the staff working in this area were very nice. The guy who checked me in was nice too. The check in process took a bit long since it's all on kiosks and it's a bit confusing. There is no store in this hotel if you forgot any toiletries but they do have little toothbrush/toothpaste packages. This is a very centrally located hotel and I know it has only been open for 2 months so not everything will be perfect. But overall with my stay I would give it 3.5/4 stars. For the price that I paid for this one room for a night and with all the issues I had this is why. But I would give the lobby/lounge place 5 stars well, I would give it 10 stars if I could. It's a really awesome area!

Yelp
Best staff hands down at any hotel chain in Boston. I have stayed at multiple locations in the US and abroad, and they hire attentive and professional people who have made my experience consistently better each time. They are there to help with a room recommendation on a good day, and supply you with a razor and a free drink when an airline loses your luggage. The location for Boston is great, but for someone who travels a lot, the service here is well above par.
