East Crossroads brewery with a rooftop deck shaped like a barrel and a menu of hop‑forward beers. FlatlandKC calls out its rooftop among KC’s best patios—great before a First Friday gallery stroll.

Excellent food! We had fish & chips, grilled chicken Caesar salad and fries.. all great. Our server Mikayla was excellent..friendly, efficient…a joy. Would recommend.

We had the Quesobria Nachos and had the beer slushy, had a couple flights of beer. All of it was really good and definitely will be coming back !

I came here for the first time and absolutely loved this hidden gem. I grew up eating Juicy Lucy hamburgers in Minnesota at the original location, so it brought a touch of home to me here in KC. I believe my server's name was Mckayla, and she was phenomenal! Such amazing energy, professionalism, and friendliness...kind of wanted her to just sit down and have dinner with our group. It looks like they have other activities throughout the week such as music bingo. Will definitely be going back.

Decided to try a brewery new to me and this one is definitely a winner. The layout is fun with lots of good seating options and with multiple TVs, this would be a good place to catch a game. Pulled up a seat at the bar and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful and quick. I started with the Lakeside Kolsch and loved it. Then I tried the Prox-City Amber Lager…even better! I really could not have loved these more, immediately cementing this as a top 2-3 KC brewery for me based on what I’ve tried so far. They have a nice array of beers but serve good looking cocktails and food as well. Would love to return!

Google
Our server was great, the beers were tasty, but we ordered the Chili Cheese tots for $14 dollars and were shocked at how small the portion was. It came in a small basket with plenty of room to spare. A side of tots is $6 and either that portion would’ve been even more minuscule or they really think it’s justified to more the double the price for some toppings - which also wasn’t much, there was barely any chili at all. Definitely not worth the price. Other tables food portions looked normal so maybe it’s just what we got but based off our experience we felt ripped off and unsatisfied.

Google
Out of towners that wanted a bite and a nice beer. Was able to be recommended some amazing beers as well as have food that makes me not wanna go back home. Bradley was incredibly helpful and made us feel at home not only just checking on us every once in a while but also commenting on our options as if he’s known us for years. Incredible atmosphere and great crowd. Definitely the spot to hit when we come back to Kansas City

Google
We had a lovely time here for an event by Way to Go KC. Was a little surprised they added a 20% gratuity to our 2 person drink ticket just because we were there with the overall party. We are very grateful they allowed us to bring our bikes inside to keep them safe!

Google
Delicious food, wonderful servers that were very attentive, and the beer was incredible! Great place for large groups & families. Kid & pet friendly. Clean bathrooms. Parking available. I'd easily come back again! Thank you to the crew for taking care of us!

Yelp
My first judgement of this place was: touristy trap restaurant posing as brewery. Boy was I ever wrong! The steak salad I got here was one of the best I've ever had. The beers were great too. There was a wide variety, and, crucially, there were some extra crisp lagers on tap! I will definitely be back next time I'm in KCMO!

Yelp
City Barrel I am a little bit surprised I haven't posted a review for them yet. How it slipped passed me I don't really know. But I guess being late rather than never is better than no review at all. The beer I had from here can be a little on the tedious side because it can be overly sweet and it feels like you might have ingested a pintful of candy and have a stomach ache to go along with it but the City Barrel version of this beer wasn't too bad. What Steve and I had was the Creamsicle Rad AF IPA. What probably helped it not being so sweet was the IPA aspect coming into play as opposed to if it was a sour or a cream ale. The hoppiness and bitterness created a better balance. Flavor features with this creative IPA are orange, vanilla and citrus. The beer is smooth in body as well as creamy. Definitely a different kind of IPA from much of the rest which makes this a fun one!

Yelp
KC Restaurant Week 2025 -fondue beer cheese fries Salty and savory, the perfect pairing with a nice ice cold beer. All familiar flavors with smooth melty cheese sauce with a little whisper of beer, crispy chunks of bacon speckled on top with small pieces of aromatic green onion. Nothing revolutionary but tasted really good and made sense for brewery food but could have been elevated more somehow. 4/5 - Thai chili shrimp Teeny-Tiny baby shrimps with their tales off covered in a bold red-orange creamy sauce, sort of like a boom boom sauce. -Meatloaf Old-fashioned meatloaf with a tomato based sweet barbecue sauce, classic American flavor profile but tasted better than what my mom used to make. The meat was juicy and wasn't dry or overcooked but the quality of ground beef didn't seem like it was anything crazy good. The mashed potatoes were velvety smooth and buttery, also the portion was quite large. All in all it was a solidly executed dish but, again, it could have had something unique to it instead of just traditional flavor. Some sort of spice or something to make it interesting. They had ran out of dessert so, the restaurant week menu was discounted from $20 to $15. Service was fast paced but, it was a weekend and during restaurant week so, with us being a walk in and even being able to get a seat was lucky.

Yelp
Never heard of this place because I am not a beer drinker, but you don't have to be to enjoy. City Barrel brews their own beer and you can tour and learn how they do it, but today we came to eat. We started off with the fancy af fries, the fries were fries to perfection and had the great consistency that you only find at a chicken restaurant who sells fries. The fries had rad af fontina cheese sauce, mustard which added a nice kick, bacon, tomatoes, scallions and onions. I could not stop eating these fries and I never thought I would like mustard on my fries but I did! My friend ordered the steak salad. She said the steak was a little tough. It had honey mustard, flank steak, arugula, added cheddar, sunflower seeds and red onions. I ordered the Moroccan beef shawarma and it wasn't good. They should take it off the menu, it was a horrible American attempt at this. It lacked flavor and the beef was tough. All shawarmas have feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, relish, arugula, and naan bread. My friend enjoyed her bulgogi beef sandwich. That had marinated flank steak, Napa cabbage, quick pickled cucumber-carrot-scallion oi muchim whatever that means with ginger lime aioli on a potato bun. For dessert the housemade ice cream sandwich was ordered. The cookie was hard but it was nice and buttery. It looked burnt but was great.

Yelp
We like coming here as there is a rotating menu! It changes things up. I absolutely love these fries ! I was a little disheartened that they came out in baskets as it kills the vibe a little bit. I got their house made ice cream sandwich. It's advertised as white chocolate chips with sprinkles and a brown sugar cinnamon ice cream. While it was yummy it didn't exactly hit as advertised. It was a white chocolate and chocolate chip cookie with a vanilla ice cream rolled in a brown sugar cinnamon mixture. Another disheartening moment. As always the service was good !

Yelp
The atmosphere is nice and I like that they have indoor/outdoor area out front. I wish I could give 5 stars but the food unfortunately wasn't very good. The wings were cold by the time we got them and the pretzel bites tasted stale and hard. The best part of the meal was the beer. If you're wanting a good meal I wouldn't recommend but if you're just wanting a drink it's a nice place to meet for a happy hour.
google avatar

Yelp
City Barrel was a great location for the family! We visited with kids and adults and we all enjoyed. The food being delivered to the table was the fastest I've ever seen! The burger was amazing and so were the pretzels in the mustard sauce. Great spot to check out in Kansas City!
google avatar

Jackie K.

Yelp
The waitress was really great about my food allergies. Everyone liked the cider. The pretzel bites were hot and yummy. Both sauces were great. The fries had great texture and weren't overly greasy.

Yelp
I got the steak frites to go and was absolutely disappointed in my order. I looked on Yelp and saw pictures of this same order dining in and it looked really good and a hearty meal so I was excited to try it. I got the steak medium but it tasted more like medium well, a bit overcooked. There was also barely any steak in this order compared to the other pictures on Yelp. The arugula salad was disappointing as it was only a handful of pieces with cheese. The fries were the best part but the whole meal was mainly fries. The service was nice and order was ready quick. I'm not sure if I would come back again but definitely would not get this meal to-go.

Yelp
This place was, for me, wonderful. There are breweries where you can get good beer, and/or good food, and/or good personalized service. But it can sometimes be tough to get all at the same time, particularly as breweries grow (and in the Northeast, there are a few "super-breweries" with multiple locations, and at some point to grow, you have to make sacrifices). City Barrel hit the sweet spot in all cases. We were a larger group, we were all able to sit close to each other, and our server made it feel like we were the only customers there. The beer selection was, of course, fantastic. The food options included some that were unique, such as the Moroccan style short-rib wrap that I couldn't put down. This place is just doing everything right. And if they do grow (they certainly have the potential), I hope they don't lose the charm they have right now.

Yelp
I visited City Barrel this weekend for their 5th anniversary. I follow on Instagram and saw all of the new beer releases for the week and this looked like a great reason to stop by on a good weather weekend. I'd been to City Barrel a few times prior and had hit or miss experiences with service, but I wanted to give another try. We ordered a couple of new menu items to share. The pretzels with beer cheese and the mac n cheese are what we decided on and a couple new beer releases for the Week of Rad. The beer cheese sauce that comes with the pretzels was amazing! Probably the best cheese sauce I've ever had with pretzels (and I order pretzels a lot). The mac n cheese is a bit pricey at $15 but it was a good sized portion with high quality cheeses and nice crispy bacon. Very good. Pro tip - a lot of the cheese seemed to go to the bottom of the bowl. Make sure to mix up the noodles to get cheese in every bite. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. We did have to wait a bit for our server. I think it was 8-10 minutes or so. Once our server came by, we had great service throughout our dining experience. Really great spot for beer and food lovers alike!

Yelp
City Barrel was stop #3 of my Crossroads brewery crawl last night. I had been to CB once prior very soon after they opened and had a very crowded less than stellar experience; this visit was redeeming and worthy of a positive review. I only stayed for one beer and sat at the bar. My favorites style of beer are farmhouses, so I did a large pour of the Thank You Farmhouse Saison - fresh and bold at 7.6 ABV. My bartender Ron was a great host and fun to chat with also. I want a return visit to sample the good looking menu.

Yelp
When it comes to KC breweries, the combination of beer and food at City Barrel sets it apart from the rest. The seasonal menus always have delicious options. I've gotten a few different orders of wings that have been delicious. The Fancy AF fries are a mainstay and they are soo good. It seems like it's always steadily busy and the space is very nice. I'd bring my mom there. Rad AF is an award winning beer and the popularity has been on the rise over the last few years. That New England IPA style is one CB does very well. I make an annual stop for their anniversary celebration.
google avatar

Sabrina S.

Yelp
Love love this place! By far my favorite brewery due to their variety of options. The rad Af and day drinker are my go to on a hot summer day! Sitting on their patio eating fancy AF fries with some fancy beer is top notch! I can't give this place enough praise. Whenever someone asks me where to go for good beer and drinks this is always the answer!
google avatar

Yelp
We went on Tuesday for Trivia and had a great time! We ordered a couple appetizers we had the hummus plate and the loaded fries and both were delicious! I enjoyed the space dragon and it was very good, light and refreshing. My friends tried several of the festive Christmas cocktails and they enjoyed them. Our server Carlos was amazing!! The only reason that they did not get a 5 star is because their prices are very high compared to some other places we like to go to. Otherwise I definitely recommend!!

Yelp
Loving the unique food options at City Barrel Brewing.  I've stopped in a few times over the last couple of months and here's what I've tried: - the Fried Lemongrass Tofu Tacos for $12 {crispy lemongrass tofu, fresh mango & herb salsa, cabbage slaw, spicy aioli} were tasty and without the aioli it's a vegan option, but I found these rather small (I could have easily eaten 2 plates/4 tacos) - the Roasted Squash + Apple for $9 {local squash roasted and sautéed with apples and cherry tomatoes} is also a delicious vegan option and much more filling - side of 1740 French Fries for $4 - if you like seasoned fries you'll love these but you can also order without the seasoning (which was my preference) - Grey Of Sunshine cocktail {gin, earl grey syrup, lemon} for $11  They're constantly changing up their menu, so if you're one to study online menus ahead of visiting, it might be worth calling to confirm.  Also be aware there are certain 'kitchen hours'.

Yelp
The first thing I noticed on city barrels beer list was a Baja blast seltzer. The color of the blast was as perfect as you could possibly get to the real thing. I will be going back for more. We have been here many time and the service has always been fantastic. I recommend this to everybody that come to town to visit. It's not just your average brewery because they have some of the most unique food creations I've found in Kansas City! Try the fancy AF loaded fries, you won't regret it.

Yelp
It's been a couple of years since I visited City Barrel! I stopped drinking beer a few years ago so my brewery knowledge has depleted. I was glad to see City Barrel had several cocktails available. I ordered the marg which was pretty good! Not too strong and good flavor. We came on First Friday around 5pm and it wasn't too busy which was nice! We split a few of the HH menu options and got the Thai shrimp and the hummus. The hummus was good, standard good hummus. The Thai shrimp was awesome! I would have totally ordered a second one if we weren't going somewhere else for dinner. The sauce was great and there was a kick to it which we both enjoyed. My fiance really enjoyed his beer as well. I always forget about this spot but it's such a staple in KC! Now I'm craving the shrimp and want to go back soon!
google avatar

Amanda R.

Yelp
Updating since we've eaten here a few times now. Beer is still great, service is fantastic. The fries are delish and the burgers are good too! We also had the hummus - it is good too. Would definitely recommend stopping here for a meal too!
google avatar

Avinash V.

Yelp
This was one of the best beer bars that I visited lately in Kansas City area and we loved it. Make sure you visit during summer first for sitting outside. They have a amazing collection of beer. They have great cocktails and the service is really good. Everybody were really friendly. There's a very cool ambience inside but sitting outside mirrors feel very fresh. Don't worry about the service they keep checking on you.
google avatar

Colleen L.

Yelp
City Barrel is one of my favorites in the Crossroads. They always have unique food and drinks. The beer is always solid. I had the Christmas IPA on my last visit and it went down way too smoothly! If you're not a beer drinker they also have excellent creative cocktails and even beer slushes. The food is also unique. They have sandwiches, burgers, salads, and wings. I ordered the Thanksgiving Grilled Cheese-smoked turkey pastrami, spiced cranberry chutney, arugula, and white cheddar cheese on thick cut white bread. The sandwich was excellent. Everything worked well together and it really was thanksgiving in a sandwich. It's a seasonal item so I'll be sad when it leaves the menu. I also ordered fries. The fries are phenomenal. Perfect crunch. Perfect seasoning. It's all really good. Overall they are pricey but the quality and value that you get makes it well worth it.
google avatar

Mitra T.

Yelp
This is an average brew house and restaurant. Really disappointed in their seasonal menu which included a beef torta. But it was really just a pale comparison to what can be found in KCK. The sandwich lacked beef and was gentrified with an average hamburger bun. Lots of beer to choose from and happy to have the option to order "taster" sizes. Disappointed no stouts on the menu. Not sure I'd go back, especially since so many great breweries close by.
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
The food here is amazing. Especially the Crab Rangoon Pizza!!!! 10/10 Would recommend! I can't wait to come back here.

Tanner N.

Yelp
beers? it's a go. food? I'd stay away. overpriced and bland... beers make up for the experience
google avatar

Kate M.

Yelp
Limited menu done well! We sat at the bar (because no kids), friendly bartenders, 3 selection flight of tasty beer. Bingo Mondays, trivia Tuesdays, large space for groups.
google avatar

Michelle H.

Yelp
We had an excellent dining and drinking experience at City Barrel for my husbands birthday dinner for a party of 7. One of the best Old Fashioned's I've had in KC (for us non beer drinkers) and a wide selection of beers. Our meal was tasty with a beautiful presentation. Atmosphere was fun and upbeat!
google avatar

Mai S.

Yelp
I'm not a beer drinker so let me preface this with I was here for the food. However, at our table, I think five different beers were tried and everyone raved. I've been here several times and have never been disappointed with the food. The menu changes but things like the fancy af fries are always a staple (and so good) 4/5 stars because of service. You get some great servers and hostesses and some not. I think that when you go to a place with such excellent food you expect consistently good service
google avatar

Akanksha G.

Yelp
Nice location and cute interior, but overpriced, mediocre food. I came by with some friends on Friday night, and I really loved that there was a parking lot next to it. Our server was friendly and attentive and was able to take everyone's orders despite our large group. I decided to get the Thanksgiving sandwich that was a part of their seasonal menu, and paired it with fries. The concept of the sandwich was amazing, but ended up actually falling short. The turkey wasn't seasoned well, the bread was really dry, and overall the best part of the entire sandwich was the cranberry chutney. The fries were extremely well seasoned and delicious, but they were so dry that the texture ruined them. I'm the type of person who loves having leftovers the next day, but I couldn't bear to take these as it was just not worth it. Plus, the price was exorbitant - $26+ total for the sandwich, fries, tax, and 20% tip. Perhaps their drinks are better, but I definitely would not recommend coming here for the food.
google avatar

Emma E.

Yelp
Love City barrel for fun drinks, beer slushiest and the best bites. Rooftop seating available!
google avatar

Taylor T.

Yelp
I love the beer here. My favorite has been the Strawberry Shortcake IPA. Loved the Christmas decorations up for the holiday. BBQ Grilled Cheese was rich (only needed a half of the sandwich), but it was delicious. Lots of room and space to be with family/friends. Overall, great experience!
google avatar

Yixiang C.

Yelp
Great beer selection from sours to IPA. Food is excellent too. Staff is friendly and helpful on selecting our flight of beers.
google avatar

Jesica B.

Yelp
I was highly impressed with everything here! Our server was absolutely amazing, probably the best one I've had in quite some time. We were served quickly and with enthusiasm. I could see what was going on in the kitchen, and let me tell you it was clean and efficient. The food was fresh and seasonal, ranging from pub fair to some more upscale entrees. The entrees can be a little more expensive, but the portions are large and the quality matches. There is an upstairs patio area with amazing views, and the front has an open garage feel. Put this in your GPS and get there now!
google avatar

Charley B.

Yelp
City Barrel Brewing is more than a brewery. It's a full service restaurant. They focus on IPAs and sours, but have been known to throw a stout or two on the menu. Craft cocktails are available too, if you're looking for something a little stronger. They'll pair those drinks up with a menu full of your favorite midwestern comfort food options. I recommend the wings and the smoked chipotle ribs. What really stands out is the outside seating. The brewery built a small patio-like section in front of the building that houses a few booths. There's also a rooftop patio over the main entrance. Neither space is especially large, however when the weather is right, it's definitely the place to be.

Marla R.

Yelp
Tom was the best server we have ever had at City Barrel!!! Food good as always not bar food! Love their beer! Thank you for us allowing to try your other beers with VisitKC ap! We will be back more!!
google avatar

Yelp
I think this place is best meant for IPA lovers, which I am not. The bartender was nice. I did not get the impression that this was meant to be a place for great cocktails. It is a brewery after all, so no missed expectation there. The thing that surprised me later was to keep seeing this place show up as a finalist on the "best of" KC lists for the Chai Old Fashioned. When I ordered an OF, the bartender suggested this one. I have to say this is the worst specialty Old Fashioned I have ever had. It definitely tastes like Chai and Old Fashioned mixed together. It's just not a good combination. The food was average, not anything I would want again. I ordered the charcuterie. It was very large, but kind of mundane.
google avatar

Kari W.

Yelp
Ok so I failed to take a photo before demolishing them... BUT, the Sweet and Sour Yum Yum wings are insane! I literally think these are the best wings I've had in my life! Come on out and try them! Bonus, they are on the Pub Pass so if you get one you'll have an excuse to visit like we did! Tonight I sipped on the Good Luck! Also had a sampler of the Strawberry Shortcake Bar! If you haven't had a milkshake IPA yet this is a fabulous gateway! Happy exploring!
google avatar

Joyce T.

Yelp
Blushie Slushie! Not too sweet, not too sour, quite CHERRY actually! A pleasant surprise for this gin-beer drinker! A perfect marriage for me. Lots of IPA beer selections with some sours. Way to go. No high ABV here, yet. Friendly staff. Airy brick and wooden decor. Beer machinery behind the bar.

J J.

Yelp
This place has some of the most expensive pizza in Kansas City. And it's not that great. The pizza is fine, but paying over 30 dollars for a large pizza at a local beer joint is crazy. The toppings are sparse and it just tastes fine, not great. Not worth 30 dollars for sure. I was hoping this would be our new beer station spot again, but it's just too expensive. Disappointing
google avatar

Dustin E.

Yelp
This place is fantastic!! The craft beer is amazing! All of them we tried were very good. City Barrel has great food too. The Executive Chef paid a visit to our table to check on us and was very nice. We had the chips and dip appetizer which was very fun, tasty and creative. I had the Asian style pork chop. Delicious!! The potatoes and squash accompanying it were fabulous! My wife had the steak frites which was also lovely. Cooked to perfection!! The dirt and worms dessert was shared by the 6 of us and was super creative and delicious! I hope to get back to this place.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
We stopped in during KCPP's Caturday event and enjoyed a hummus plate. I'm looking at the menu today, I'm not sure how we got through that visit without trying the Rad Af Fries but just put that on my list for next time. It was hopping in there! The staff managed it very well. They were very attentive and incredibly friendly! The food and cocktails were great!
google avatar

Patrick H.

Yelp
Overall a good place for food and craft beer. Nicely remodeled industrial building with high quality details and finishes. Service was very efficient and professional. I sat at the bar and had a couple of IPAs which were both good. I'd have to say though, the highlight was the pork chop. It was cooked perfectly, well-seasoned and accompanied by a nice vegetable medley.
google avatar

Derek D.

Yelp
We loved this place! Great food, staff, and loved the atmosphere! Everyone was really nice and professional. The hand crafted drinks and beers are very good as well. I always have to try the French Dip sandwich first, at any restaurant I visit, and this one did not disappoint! You also must try the tacos, wings, and Fancy af fries, my favorite! We will definitely recommend them to all friends and we will be back.
google avatar

Yelp
This is an interesting one. I was invited here for an opening ceremony. I spent some time talking to those I could about this place. It was neat. I can't say that it was anything that far out of the ordinary. But, it does have some styles. The dinners were served... I had the salmon... though I had ordered the steak but unfortunately they hadn't been good at estimating the dinners so salmon it was. The food was good... but nothing that great. Really I found it all lackluster at its conclusion. The service is really hard to describe since it was an opening. People were friendly but no one really knew what they were doing. I am sure this is corrected by now. I have heard that many of the things that we were told by the owners of the plans moving forward have now changed. We will have to see what becomes of this place. Hey thanx for reading, and keep on eating!
google avatar

Hannah M.

Yelp
All I can say is YES YES YES. Came here with some friends on a Saturday and it did not disappoint. They have a large variety of beers to choose from as well as some frozen drinks. Among us we probably got one of every beer and I don't really have a bad thing to say. Even if something wasn't someone's "style" of beer - it was still a good, well made beer.
google avatar

Jay B.

Yelp
Great Beer. Funky, hipster-y brewery with food. Great takes on ribs, burgers, grilled cheese etc. I was happy to see more than one lager beer on a brewery menu for once.
google avatar

Sean M.

Yelp
Nice little brewery. There wasn't a ton of beer options which is okay. I really found the Kansas City candy to be the best drink. I had some Buffalo wings, they were rather spicy but I've had better wings. Overall a great hangout spot. Not sure if I'd be back for dinner, but maybe some snacks and beers.
google avatar

Dustin G.

Yelp
Seems like menu is seasonal because a lot of things reviewed on here weren't on the menu. We had phantasm juice party (imperial IPA), treat yo self fancy a$$ french toast (imperial stout) and conclusion (sour). All the beers were incredible and i don't normally care much for IPAs. The stout tasted like maple/french toast. Super smooth and flavorful for a 10.1% imperial. Sour was really solid and tart (not sweet). For food we had the pork "cheesesteak" sandwich and the bulgogi beef tacos. Both on the lighter side and shareable after we cut the sandwich down the middle. The tacos were incredible! Everything was so good we were hesitant to spoil the meal by having anything more. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I'm not sure which is better - City Barrel's beer, food, atmosphere, or service. It's all great to me! I love everything from their 3oz tasters to their creative cocktails. So far, my food item on the menu is the classic Smash Burger. (Sides cost extra!) City Barrel has a pretty spacious place for being in the Crossroads - with indoor, outdoor, and bar seating. It's great for groups, date nights, special occasions, and even curbside pickup complete with online ordering. Easily make a reservation online, but you don't need to unless it's peak hours (Friday/Saturday night). I hosted a work happy hour here and they were very accommodating both over the phone and in-person when we arrived.
