Excellent one stop cafe for coffee, snack, dessert, or even an entire meal. On our family vacation to NYC, we stayed 1 block away from this cafe and stopped there multiple times. I realized we didn't get a picture of everything we ordered: coffee, pastries, and supper. For as small of a business as it is, they have a very large menu and everything we ordered was excellent! We ordered chicken Caesar salads and wraps one night late and they were the biggest and best we have ever had. Very fresh! I talked to the owner while we waited and said we were from the midwest and just starting our vacation. He was very nice, and provided a couple desserts on the house! The day we left to head back home we stopped in for coffee which was excellent, and thanked the owner for the good food and service. He told the kids to each pick a dessert, again on the house. I tried tipping him out of appreciation and he wouldn't accept. The place is a diamond in the rough in downtown N.J. and is worth stopping if you are in the area! To be halfway across the country in an area you've never been to, downtown N.J., late at night, and find a nice place with friendly staff and quality service was a highlight of our trip. He only has a couple employees so the wait is longer, so don't be in a rush when you stop. It is definitely worth it! Thank you for your generosity, hospitality, and making our trip memorable!

The smoothie with dates was the best!!!! I rarely say this, but you must try it. Perfectly sweet, just right without any added sugar. The avocado toast was simply on point. The owner was super chill and hospitable too. Loved the vibes here.

I stop here on my way to the train to pick up something nice. Service is great and the woman behind the counter is always very kind! The chai latte is very good and has a strong flavor. The indoor seating areas are small but still very cozy. just a lovely cafe in journal square

The chicken quesadilla is a winner! I generally never feel satisfied with my food orders and for my first time at City Cafe and Grill I ordered a chicken quesadilla and a Vanilla Iced matcha latte, and I almost cried tears of joy because I genuinely loved every sip and bite. Genuinely recommend this spot! Incredible food and service.

Got to know this small corner spot because of my teens, very nice place the owner and the Ecuadorean girl that handles the food are great very attentive and hospitable they make you feel right at home. The food if you like halal the breakfast and pastries 🥐 are soft and delicious the seating is alittle tight but if you don’t mind it then you’ll enjoy the atmosphere I recommend for anyone in jersey city near Hudson community college and Saint Peter’s university. Definitely recommend🥰

Love to get lunch here during the school day. My favorite is the smoked turkey sandwich. I've enjoyed some of the desserts and coffee as well. Decent prices and the staff is very friendly.

When we walked in felt like they were talking about us in their language because they were staring at us even after we said give us a min to check out the menu. I noticed them doing it twice, but I still stayed and they provided some great customer service and we enjoyed the food. So never judge based on perceptions they can oftentimes lead you astray. God bless their business!! Air conditioning was minimal as I was sweating while waiting

Small place, good customer service but slow, food is good 👍
