GREAT VALUE; GREAT OLD DINER AMBIENCE. At 11am on Saturday, this place is bustling! Very proud to have a great ol' American diner in JC! The staffs are kind and courteous. The owner is walking around to make sure all is good. The food was good. Ordered omelette venetian ($20), egg plates ($16), Apple waffle ($18). A little bit pricey but hey the experience is worth it. Total came out to be $87 with tips plus 2.5% credit card processing fee. Would recommend this place to my friends

Edit: It seems there was a misunderstanding with the tips. Owner Lefteris was very meticulous in clearing things up and have promptly refunded us. We really appreciate this, so definitely giving this place a full 5 stars. We really LOVED the food, it was our first trip to Jersey City and our first time trying American diner food and this place was a great start to the trip. Really liked the corned beef and hash, goes perfectly well with some hotsauce, and washed down with a cup of freshly squeezed orange juice. Will definitely be back if we are in the area!

Checked this place out and the food was so good! Ended up visiting it two different times in a week. Portions are huge and pancakes perfect and fluffy and the potatoes seasoned so good too. The second time around, my husband and I shared a plate because the portions are huge. Priced pretty good too.

Very friendly staff. The host , waiters and staff are great. Very cozy and clean diner. Accommodating staff. The food was very tasty and filling. Nice presentation. Everything looked clean. An enjoyable breakfast !

Highly recommend City Diner in Jersey City. The prices are great, and it feels very homey and friendly inside the restaurant. Expect some crowds during peak hours, but the service is great regardless of the crowds. The pancakes and the iced lattes are incredible :), and the Nutella French toast is delicious!

1st time eating here. Everything was amazing. Not only was the food great, the service was great, dining room was very clean. If I'm ever back in NJ this will be my 1st stop.

Do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT get the Southern Fried Chicken here. The 'batter' for the chicken doesn't have any seasoning and is VERY bland and it was not cooked throughout. The coleslaw is absolutely horrendous. The coffee will have you up ALL night long, so that is a plus. 0/10 Do not recommend.

The ambiance of this restaurant is great and the food did not disappoint. Had the pesto pasta and it was balanced in its consistency and taste. I only had two nitpicks and that you have to keep getting the attention of the staff to come by to refill your drinks and I had ordered chicken orzo as an entree and it was never brought to me. This is a good neighborhood restaurant for Jersey City.

Really did the trick for us on a weekend brunch time. We were able to walk in. We had an awkward seat in the middle of the restaurant - a little tight - but our food really hit the spot. The menu options were surprisingly large. My kids liked the bustle. Our waiter was cute and attentive. It feels like a bar-diner.

Food all well made, hot and enjoyed by all of us. Service was prompt, friendly and patient even though every table was full. Everything was clean with a more resturant feel than diner. Defintely recommended for breakfast!

My good friend Cindy and I had an early brunch today at City Diner at 31 Montgomery Street, Jersey City, NJ. We have met there every few month for the last 3 years. We love the food and the amazing service when there. Owner Mike Giakoumatos is always inviting; server Joven hospitable and pleasant; and compliments to fine chef Hany Matta. We will surely be back soon.

A really great spot for pancakes and pasta! I tried the pesto pasta, fries, chocolate chip pancake, and lemon ricotta pancake. The pesto pasta was delicious -- flavorful, with crunchy breadcrumbs and perfectly balanced pesto. Both pancakes were amazing -- not overly sweet, just the right mix of moist and fluffy. The chocolate chip pancake had the perfect amount of chocolate, and the lemon ricotta pancake was beautifully zesty. Plenty of seating and great service make it even better!

Came here for a lunch with my team on Good Friday. As a group of 8, we were sat rather quickly -- even without a reservation. Our server, a gentleman, was great with listening and taking our orders. The food arrived in about 15-20 minutes and looked great. By look great I mean the presentation was incredible and the plating was large. I chose the short rib dish and it was tasty. The meat was tender but a tad bit dry. The potatoes and gravy were tasty. I would ask for extra gravy if I were to order this dish again. I gave this meal a 4/5 for the dryness.

The goods: nicely decorated and updated. Quickly seated upon arrival, good size portions of breakfast plates, good greeter, and food runners. Reason why this is just good and not great you ask?? Our server! She waited the table with kids that came in after us, one strike ok, but when she got to our table, we had to wait for her to finish fixing issues, checks with other tables on her tablet?? When the food came out, she never checked in on us, but she did stand at the bar staring to make sure we properly chewed our food like momma always said! The only check in was when she asked if we wanted a leftover bag, and gave us our check, but at least she apologized then for the "long wait." Unfortunately she left me no choice with the stroke of my pen. To end on a high note, consider sharing a plate if you come here and you're not super hungry, but remember it's Jersey damn it, so you may not get the server you expect.

Outside, you have a lot of bike messengers sitting outside and waiting for orders. Inside, a dark diner that has a very bright bar lit above the area with a sign that says bar. Seats are standard diner affair, and the menu is not as extensive as many diners but includes a lot of different beers. Service was good, didn't intrude too much into the conversation and gave us plenty of time to select what you want. We like the beers, the food was just so so. French onion soup was good with the cheese but wasn't salty enough. The waffles with fried chicken, the waffle was big and fluffy, so that was nice but the chicken didn't seem to have any spicing, maybe some honey in the batter. Basically it was a half chicken quartered and deep fried so it was very hot when it came out, and extra crispy but lacked flavor. It was plenty of chicken though, so that was a nice part. Easily shared by 2 people. Not too busy on a Tuesday night.

I enjoyed my meal here. After meeting up with a friend for a 3 mile run we hit up City Diner to refuel. I like that there are healthy breakfast options which I had. Good food, friendly service, nice decor. More of an upscale diner feel.

This place is a staple of downtown Jersey City, it's like a diner, but also not at the same time. It's a slight notch up from a traditional diner. Food is decent, they serve alcohol, service isn't upscale but they're attentive. And the vibe is chill.

I dont think i could dislike a restaurant more than this place. The decor is tacky and the service is abysmal. You have to track your weightier down and the food is mid at best. My nephew likes the milk shakes and it is the only reason i ever go. Just avoid it richmond and Midlothian have such good food you could do better for breakfast at most every other place. The wait staff really needs to be properly trained here they are nice just there is zero attentiveness or cleanliness. Takes for ever to get anything to the table items always come out staggered and they forget orders and stuff. Cannot wait for him to outgrow this faze in life so i can never go here again. It gets two stars because you will get food and the people were nice.

Received surprise takeout from this diner a few weeks ago and I was pleasantly surprised. I had a grilled chicken wrap with fries and the wrap didn't seem that big at first but I ate half and it was quite filling. The fries were abundant as well and the restaurant was nice to include utensils and a bunch of ketchup. I've never eaten here in person but I image the service would be decent. Overall, I would try food from here again.

Just another diner in the city, nothing fancy about it. We ordered some French toast and an Avocado sandwich. Both arrived at the same time however, the toast was cold and we had to request for a replacement. The ambiance and the service was okay

nice atmosphere and clean. Not very busy and took a long time for breakfast to come out. It was cold as it sat in the kitchen window for awhile. Food was okay may have been better if it was warm.

Great location near the train stop, drinks crafted with intention, and food made to order. Was visiting but if in the area again, I would come back!

Awesome diner with an extensive menu. Lots of veggie options; the black bean chili is probably my favorite. We usually sit at the bar since we're only 2 and it tends to be busy. Servers are always quick and friendly. Full bar as well.

Another Jersey City Lunch! And my oh my, was it delish!!!! For starters, I was greeted warmly. Upon approaching the take-out area (cashiers in the back), I again was warmly greeted, with smiles for both cashiers. It was a calm/slow, rainy Friday, after 3pm. I needed to break my days long fast, and and wanted a good veggie soup. I reviewed the menu, low and behold there's a soup section! I mean.... come'on! Could I ask for more?!?! It wasn't a full page, but there were a few options to pick from, which I was thrilled about. I ordered a Vegetarian Blk Bean Chili, accompanied with tortilla chips, and a side of Sautéed Spinach. (Check out the pics) Upon the first spoon of Chili, I was grinning in satisfaction! The Spinach taste like I expected. I wasn't able to complete all in one sitting. Which is cool. I was excited to finish it at home... While on the train ride home, the food was sitting on my lap looking at me, and I looking at it... and even tho I'm not much of subway diner, I dined on this, until I was full again. Lol I still have just enough for a snack later in the evening.... Oh, and I enjoyed this all for just $20, including TIP!!

Had brunch with family here around the holidays. Good food, quick service and simple ambience of a diner. We had Crab Cake Benedict, Maple and egg supreme, Veg quesadilla (my dish -- it was good with extra jalapeños on the side) and chicken parm hero. Good experience, worth trying once.

My boyfriend, his family and I stopped here after a Yankees game. The hostess was nice and quickly sat us. The menu is extensive ranging from breakfast to steaks. My boyfriend and I have previously passed by but we've never stopped in until now. We love diners so we're happy we finally tried City Diner. We ordered the following items. I'm not sure if they have a kids menu, we don't ask, but kids had apps as their meals which worked out fine. Tomato basil soap steak chimichurri Buffalo chicken wings Adult Mac and cheese South of the border burger 3 cheese quesadilla with steak I personally had the adult mac and cheese and a vanilla milkshake. The milkshake was ok and the mac and cheese was good, could've used a tad more seasoning. I still enjoyed the pasta. I also tried some of the burger and quesadillas which were also good. Everyone else also enjoyed their meal. Service was great. My boyfriend and I are looking forward to coming back to try more from the menu.

I was very surprised at how good this place was. I work next door at 101 Hudson. Came here for lunch during a weekday and everything was great. Service was great. We were seated promptly and orders taken as soon as we were ready. Everything came out nice and quick and the staff was very positive Food was great. Got the 2 egg platter and French onion soup. Home fries were not bland and seasoned. The soup was on point. Not to heavy on the salt and the bread inside was nice and soft The ambiance was great and love the warm feeling inside. Would def be back here for more good food.

Yeah, I've read some of the reviews... Diner with a bar still whatever... The food was awesome... That was the best mac & cheese I ever had in the corned beef fashion. Eggs were Bussin. I drink my coffee black it was excellent in the IPA was hazy. Don't you dare eat a hotel food take a walk over here. I don't know my waiters name, but the service was excellent. And the prices were reasonable.

The food was great and plentiful. The service was great. We weren't rushed at all. The omelette was cooked perfectly and the potatoes were perfectly grilled.

Yummy Denver Omelette! Excellent service. Nice small restaurant with a full bar. It is great for breakfast or lunch. The servings are very generous and tasty. The coffee was pretty good also. Enjoyed a late breakfast. The space is pretty small but the service was fast. Highly recommend if you are looking for a breakfast/lunch spot in Jersey.

PROS: the food was amazing, priced right, menu variety was plentiful, and the food came out very fast. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Place is upscale for a diner as well CONS: scarce parking since it's just street parking, but what do you expect in a city OVERALL: if you're in the area and want an upscale diner and you don't care about parking your car on the sidewalk, then come to this place

Insanely expensive for mediocre diner food. Also seems like they charge more on apps like UberEats and Grubhub. Where the hell do you get off charging $6.50 for a tiny bottle of orange juice? Also if you order take out / delivery, expect them to ignore any extra notes you add.

Food, service and ambiance were all excellent! We were traveling back to ATL and wanted to enjoy brunch but needed to kill a little time before heading to Newark. They allowed us to keep our luggage behind the hostess stand. We were able to hang out in our booth after enjoying a delicious breakfast. The food was delish and very affordably priced. Will definitely visit again the next time we're in town! Would love to try their dinner options.

Good day,  I visited your diner yesterday, April 28th, 2025 around 6pm, I ordered the salmon entree, when the food came to my table, I had to double check to be sure I was in the right place.  With service so good, my server was very kind, attentive and awesome. The food presentation was above par for "diner" service; which is why I had to double check to see if I was in the right place. For the label "diner", this was a 5 star experience, way above par for a diner. The food was great, the wine was perfect. I even topped my evening off with a cup of coffee and cheesecake. Mind Blowing, my only regret is that I did not take pictures of my dishes, as the presentation could never be found under the label "diner". I will visit again on a regular basis, and I will post this wherever a review can be posted. 5 out of 5 stars. The perfect little secret of Jersey City.  Thank you.  Rudy V.

On vacation and decided to give this place a try. I'm a simple eggs & bacon guy and just look for the basics. Well I was extremely pleased of my meal. I had the Morning sampler, 2 eggs, potatoes, bacon and sausage. It also came with a short stack of pancakes, does that look like a short stack to you?.... Couldn't finish them! My wife had something similar but with waffles. Very reasonably priced, good menu and the place was comfortable. Service was good considering how busy it was and the food came out quick and hot. I will definitely be going back the next time I visit.

The food is good and the atmosphere is better than most diners. It is a place if you want a fast meal that is reliable. My Cobb salad was fine, but left out some of the more expensive ingredients. The service was adequate. I would go back again for a fast meal at a reasonable price

They updated the menu and removed the pulled pork grilled cheese. They also changed the plating on the fish and chips and anything with fries. I tried the Turkey burger and it was ok. Service was good as usual but I am not a fan of the changes.

I am quite surprised about the bas reviews this place has because every time I've been, I've always had a wonderful meal. The place is supee cute, swrvice good, food good and portions big, all at a reasonable price. Also, what it is outstanding is that they can cook well food that is not the typical eggs, burger, pancakes. I tried nickrib sandwich and was surprised by the tender meat and taste, the pancakes with hash browns, meat and eggs are a blast and a really good deal (dont remember the name), just to name a few So all in all, really good and will come back

$6 for fake orange juice is absolutely wild, even by jersey city standards ..............................

This place was the hero of my Sunday morning hangover. Our server with almost shoulder length hair and glasses really made my day. I ordered a fernet with Diet Coke and he was so intrigued. I also swapped home fries for French fries and he couldn't have been happier for me. I just got eggs with sourdough and it was perfect! The rest of my party enjoyed an omelette, French toast, and poached eggs. The waffles at the table next to us looked so good too! It has classic diner vibes. Not sure how long it's been there but it's seems new and very clean as well.

Food We came here by recommendation. Food was mid at best. Pancakes are "ok." They are nothing to brag about. The bacon is very thin "cheap" bacon that tastes really chewy, and is just not good at all. The garlic bread steak sandwich has potential to be really great. The steak was overcooked and I opted to not get a replacement. We gave this place a second chance. Which was much better than the first Dynamite shrimp was a great suggestion. French fries with a side of gravy was a good combo. Bacon egg & cheese sandwich on a bun made up for the previous experience. Their sausage is really good & flavorful. The cheese fries are just melted sliced cheese - not like a cheese sauce. Overall, with the lack of places in the area. It can be a go to.

City Diner is a small diner on the corner across the street from Cava. It has a classic menu of options including omelettes, pancakes, waffles, and an array of other options. I opted for the build your own omelette and the omelette was good. The hash browns were mushy and didn't really taste the best. I would go back to try their pancakes. All in all it's a diner that gets the job done with decent food.

The Reuben here is good, and the Sweet Potato Fries are crunchy with a hearty portion. The servers are decent enough for a diner and my booth was roomy and spacious to fit all my munchies in one spot. City Diner's legit!

This place is walkable from my jersey office so my colleagues and I decided to grab lunch here. Got there a little before noon on a Wednesday and snagged a booth, 15 mins later we would've missed that chance. Even with how busy it is, waitress was attentive and great. Everyone loved their food - a must is the steak sandwich, or the adult grilled cheese. Caesar salad is also great... and the chili which you can get as a soup/salad combo. All fresh and tasty. Love the bar in this place, it really goes with the vibe. This is my first diner experience but I'm told this is more on the fancy side, and I enjoyed it!

Came here with the family. We were seated pretty quickly. The service was good. The food was delicious as well. No complaints here :)

This restaurant is fairly close to us so we decided to walk in for breakfast. We were seated immediately despite being busy. The menu had everything!! Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. Their food was pretty good. It was such a large amount for a decent price. I wouldn't say it was anything spectacular but it hit the spot. It's simple and fills you up. The service was excellent, water and coffee refills were consistent and the waiters were friendly. To conclude, City Diner is great for early mornings or late nights when you really don't know what you're craving and don't want to spend a ton of money.

I ordered the French toast stuffed with Cream Cheese, Corned Beef Hash and Home fries. When I tell you that you get TWO HUGE French toasts that's nice and Juicy and buttery stuffed with cream cheese... OMG!!! The cream cheese isn't to sweet. It was just perfect. The corned beef hash isn't from the can like other diners. Made fresh and fried hard just the way I like it. My only con is that the space is very small. With my newborn, it's awfully tight with a stroller; however, they made space to accommodate my family. Also, there is no changing tables for babies in the bathrooms (At least the male bathroom).

This place used to be great. When it was Flamingos. Staff just doesn't care. Rude service. Ordered a NJ staple. Taylor ham egg and cheese. For $9 I got 2 slices of Taylor ham. I sent it back immediately. The waiter told me that's the portion. Wonder bagel gives 10 slices and never fails. Unless I am desperate I will not be going back, just horrible!

We ordered out. The staff was really nice and the food looked amazing. They have all day breakfast with most dishes very hardy. I thought my hollandaise sauce tasted a bit sweet and they did not provide salt packages. The home fries were great with red skinned potatoes with plenty of crispy pieces. Packaging was wasteful; big plastic containers, but not sure if hollandaise would survive cardboard. So, all in all, I enjoyed my brunch.
