City Diner

A large square-footage diner with a bar counter, an old timey feel, and some good pancakes. A friend and I got two Egg dishes (an Omelette and Eggs), and an order of Chocolate Chip Pancakes, and the cakes were by far the standout. Also didn’t love the house coffee.

Nice little diner at a walking distance from our place and we could get a seat within 5 mins on a Saturday afternoon for 3 of us. Service is typical diner style, quick and effective and our order included a Bloody Mary and a Mimosa, both pretty decent. I got the Veggie Deluxe Burger ($15) and the first few bites felt really decent, but then the burger patties felt really dry. Food overall felt pretty substandard, including the pancakes we ordered for our little one. Service was quick though and noise levels were on the average end. Comfortable booth seating, and fairly huge portions. Might visit again!

Very nice atmosphere. The food was good and service was alright. The menu has a lot of options and the place is quite clean. Good portions and okay prices. There is a chance I will be coming back. Thank you

If you want to have breakfast anytime then City Diner is the place for you! But, don't let this stop you, they also have lunch and dinner menus. It's a really nice and cozy place. It's also very laid-back and quiet. Just in case you're tired of the loud noisy restaurants and want to be able to have a conversation then City Diner is the place to go to.

We had a yummy meal here on a Wednesday for lunch. They were just busy enough to feel lively and the waitstaff was attentive but not hovering. I had the Mexican bowl which was surprisingly tasty, and we also got pancakes and chicken fingers and fries. Everyone was full and happy!

Great diner. The food is always fresh and delicious. They have the best eggs in town. Always get a side of sausage. It is amazing!!! Great coffee as well. The staff is friendly and very attentive. Great neighborhood diner.

Every now and then I am in the mood for diner pancakes (big, pillowy and tasty) when I don't feel like making them and City Diner is my go to place. I don't order everyday (not cost effective) but when I do I get the pancakes and sausage which has never disappointed. On occasion I get a milkshake (vanilla) and one if the wraps (chicken Caesar) although tasty I would love the milkshake thicker; the wraps are a bit soggy but still tasty. I normally order through Uber Eats and I just turn the oven on and heat up the pancakes and sausage as the delivery may take a while but the pancakes heat up well. FYI the fries that come with some of the sandwiches (after reheating) are thick and good with a nice portion.

The get the job done. I am glad there's diner that still exists among all the bells & whistles restaurants. It has become my partner and I staple after a late night. Their quesadilla are very good, tad oily but hits the spot. Will continue being a staple and they charge you an arm and a leg. They have you in and out too.

First off there is a deal on Groupon+ for money back! My meal tonight was above and beyond. The omelette was thick and flavourful. The pile of potatoes was vast and the toast was toasted to perfection. 10/10

I came here with my friend for lunch on a Thursday afternoon. The diner was busy, but we didn't have to wait for seats. I had the grilled salmon wrap, which was a little lack-luster. There wasn't that much salmon inside and it wasn't flavorful. The fries and coleslaw were alright. On the bright side, the service was great! Our waitress was very attentive and nice.

Everything I've gotten here I've been disappointed with. I tried the Avocado Toast, and I didn't find it worth the price. The toast was stale and not toasted. This is a comfortable diner, and the service is great -- the wait staff is efficient and amiable -- but I just think their food is overpriced for the quality and how it's prepared.

My favorite diner in the city. I have gone multiple times and have never been disappointed by the service; the food is excellent.

I have never experienced such rude behavior in my life. I've been coming here for years -- I drop off my daughter at dance nearby and often stop in for food or coffee, usually sitting at the bar or a booth. Today, I came in as usual, ordered food, and had been there for less than an hour when a waiter abruptly told me I needed to leave because I had "been there for two hours." He said they needed the table for other customers, and he said it loudly enough to embarrass me in front of other patrons. I was stunned. I was still drinking my coffee and had ordered food -- there was no reason for him to treat me that way. When I asked him why he was being so rude, he refused to answer. This isn't the first time I've experienced dismissive behavior here, but today crossed a line. As a woman of color, I felt humiliated and singled out. It was clear he wanted to make room for other (whiter) customers. Please don't go here. No one deserves to be treated like that.

Had a quick lunch at City Diner. Seated at nice booth. Speedy service even though place was busy. Very nice server. Jada grilled cheese on rye. Excellent and came out very fast.

This has become our new spot when we are on the west side! We came upon this place by accident while on Broadway today. Because it was lunch, I didn't want anything too greasy so I went with the Mexican fiesta salad. I didn't know the dressing; ancho chilli ranch dressing. I asked if it was spicy and he brought me a sample. It was delicious. The salad was a good size; I was even able to save some for dinner. My boss had the tuna on the pita and she said it was fresh. I will definitely be trying their other salads the next time we go there. It was pretty packed too so you know the food is good!

My go to diner in the UWS. The portions are big, and there's usually seating at a booth. The food is what you would expect from a diner. This time I got the city burger deluxe. The burger is juicy, the grilled onions are delicious, and I love the sauce that comes with the burger. The fries are very crispy as well. Whenever I'm craving a classic diner burger I love coming here. The service is great. Everyone is friendly and I never have issues with the order and everything comes out quickly. Everything here has a very classic diner vibe which I love. I been to quite a few diner in the UWS and i can definitely say this is my favorite.

Food is substandard at best. Waitstaff cannot get the order right no matter how much effort I make to explicitly request something (crispy turkey bacon = dry pork bacon, which then gets returned and the turkey bacon is flaccid ). Cold unbuttered English Muffin. Overdone eggs. Oily tater tots. Service is absolutely terrible. Busboys are on point but all waitstaff has been surly and inattentive (ie not getting the order right each time. It is literally every single waitstaff since Covid). Blech!! I've been dining here for 30 years. Since Covid this place serves the worst quality food. I love having breakfast at my once favorite diner. But I can't spend soooo much more money for farrrr less quality and service. I've mentioned this to the manager to no avail. Leaving a bad review won't help them get their game back but it will give caution to future potential customers. Come at your own risk.

If there was a way to rate 0 send the cook to peel potatoes and wash dishes maybe that was the dishwasher boy who is the cook now since reg cook is on vacation as I was told by the waiter ... $ 21,50 for 2 thin slices of some white dry bread slightly burnt brown on the grill ... can't even call eggy bread ...sausage and coffee was ok .... Served with no butter cinnamon or syrup have to ask .... Shame on city diner owner who don't care ... I'm not trying to give my negative opinion, hope owner will see and try to make change for better place to eat. Granted it's a nice diner to walk in clean .... But food suck even server admitted lots of people complain for over a month about this newly "promoted or hired dishwasher cook ‍ "

I decided to come here for brunch after doing a Yelp search for diners near by. This was your typical diner where you could either sit at the counter or at tables. I ordered a scrambled egg with veggies, cheese, hashbrown, and a blueberry muffin, coffee. Service was super fast, but as soon as they dropped food off they really didn't come back to check on you if everything was ok and to your liking. Therefore, I just had to wave down anybody walking by if I needed anything. I felt sort of abandoned because I really did not know who my waiter was. Very rushed. The food was pretty good, decent. Maybe I would go back for a sandwich and salad. But not the scrambled eggs.

My two sons, 8 and 5, say: "Every time we go there we eat our entire french toast with chocolate chips that turn into chocolate spread. It's our favorite diner."

Excellent, speedy service. The food is standard diner menu with large portions. It's not a maple syrup kind of breakfast but solid good preparation.

A good diner (or more correctly in this case a coffee shop) is a thing of greater value and beauty than even the most precious diamond. City Diner is one such place. I was there for breakfast. The food is solid, good waffles, well constructed omelettes, decent whole wheat toast (very good rye). Coffee is hit or miss and is pot-dependent, with good decaf. Service... ok, here's where they fall short of the mark, and the waitstaff made me feel like they were doing me a service when it came to refills, or even ordering a side of fruit or some such item. I prefer this place to others in the neighborhood, so for now it's my coffee shop haunt.

This place is always a reliable diner when you're looking for good food and service. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, so I've never had to wait for seat for 2, even on a busy Sunday morning. I ordered the ham and cheese omelette which came with toast and hashbrowns. The omelette was pretty good, I just wish it had cheddar cheese instead of American, though I probably could have asked. The toast came out fresh and warm as well. I didn't eat the hashbrowns, only because I prefer them thin and crispy and these are more like loaded. It wasn't too loud, but it's definitely diner noisy. The service was quick and everything came out together. This is the best diner I've found on the UWS, but it's not my favorite diner in the city.

Great service and staff very friendly and helpful. The place is classic diner, with a few unique dishes that are Greek and Arabic. This is the place in neighborhood I would stop at after a stressful day for some comfort food.

We had the potato skins, veggie burger, and fries at City Diner and sat at the counter. The staff members are all nice guys and attentive. The skins were well prepared and tasty. I liked that the edges were crispy. I was very surprised to find that the veggie burger is house made. What a rarity, especially in a diner. The burger was quite delicious and nice and firm, nice and firm holding up well. The onion rings and fries were crispy and good. This is a solid diner with a range of offerings. It's clean and nice. We shall return.

hi, i visited this diner 2/16/24. Ive live in the neighborhood and decided to take my children and their friends out for dinner. From the begining the waited seemed annoyed by the presence of children. I want to start off by saying they were sitting, talking and laughing but not louder then anyone else at the diner. he took everyones order and left. never stooped by to ask if we needed anything, brought our food out and realized there was an extra meal and annoyingly said it mustve been one of the kids that ordered two things. obviously every child ordered one item but i distegarded his comment and said thats fine leave it there. no one touched the meal and the kids started eating. he did not return to askif we wanted drinks or refills and proceeded to talk to a lady who i imagine was a manager of some sort. they had this coversation right next to our table (which was right next to the kitchen) she stated thats the kids table, rolled her eyes and said they ordered extra food and dont want to pay, just take it off. he comes to the table to remove the tray to which i stated i think its distasteful to have a conversation about your customers and roll your eyes as if your annyed by our presence and if thats the case simply tell us beforre we come in you dont like children and we wouldve looked elsewhere but to come in to a diner and be treated with disregard and conplain about us in front of my face is disgusting. i asked for the check and the lade states i dont do that. it was honestly the worse experience ever. I would never eat here again. you should know better. kid or no kid you dont treat people like this. if you are having a bad day stay home. Thanks for ruining our dinner, we left your food at the table , hope you enjoyed it. Not worth it.

This diner changed. ordered Berger which came with cole slaw&pickle which I like to put on it. Called. No longer given and if you want lettuce and tomato it's an extra charge. Twice it was over cooked. Got a gyro and it didn't taste like a gyro- thick slices like a piece of banana peel - not like lamb. So saying goodbye- they've gotten petty.

Love this diner so much! Classic diner ambiance and great friendly service. Have tried several different dishes and all were delicious and high quality. We love having this diner in the neighborhood!

I chose the time & the food (which was excellent) & the food was delivered 1 minute before I requested & it was hot & so very good. The delivery person was pleasant & made this a very pleasant experience.

This is a solid diner. I dined inside and definitely felt good vibes. It has that classic diner smell and feel. I ordered the Lumberjack meal which came with pancakes, bacon, sausage, ham, and eggs. Everything is just kind of piled onto the plate. The pancakes are very good here--little crispy on the edges, firm on the outside, and fluffy in the inside. The bacon and sausage were great. The ham was a little thin and felt more like a sandwich cut. All and all, this is a simple diner; no frills or anything exotic. Kind of exactly what you want. I'll be coming back again whenever I'm craving diner food!

Great breakfast. Eggs, sausage, home fries, whiskey down,and a short stack. Sausages were plump, big, and juicy. Pancakes perfect. Homefries home made and a generous portion. Our waitress was attentive and pleasant.

Pretty solid diner with a cool art deco look that is open 24/7. In a stretch of area on the farther corner of the UWS you will find this diner that is a welcome discovery when it's late at night, or you've been partying into the wee hours of the morning and need a bite after your "walk of shame". Decent enough coffee, food was ok (grilled veggie sandwich, egg white omelet, fries} but the service was a bit lacking and not overly attentive even though it was a bit empty. Maybe because it was late and we were in conversation so no one wanted to bother us. Or maybe we scared them. Hey, I wore deodorant and showered! Sure, I would come back here again if close by and it's after the witching hour. It sure beats fast food or bad .99 cent pizza.

Pretty standard diner. Ambiance is nice and homey. Service was pretty standard and friendly. I had the banana pancakes and they definitely hit the spot! Will come if I'm ever craving late night diner food. Nothing crazy special. They do a solid job at everything.

City Diner has been down the block from me for the past 5 years and this is the first time I set foot in it. For shame. Your basic diner fare but the big plus is that it's one of the few 24 hour places to eat in the area other than resorting to the Mc Donald's restaurant-cum-hotel or 7-Eleven. I had the Grilled Vegetable Sandwich that comes with a side of salad. I don't think I've ever eaten anything as healthy in my life that tasted as good. The decor is straight up Art Deco. Subdued and without the kitsch. Only downside is that they don't have the soft mints. I love the soft mints.

It was just not a good experience. The order was wrong. The portion was small. It was hot outside and inside. Maybe it was personal. I don't know. Not coming back.

Great staff, lovely atmosphere, Would highly recommend for brunch or lunch, especially on the weekends.

It is open 24/7. Great for a late night meal. Full menu available. The waiter seemed distracted. He was forgetful. Maybe he was tired, it was really late. He was pleasant. Old fashioned Diner. Have a 30s look, Art Decor I got the CD Burger deluxe. Burger, caramelized onions, cheese. The fries golden and crispy. It was a huge burger. I ate 1/2 of the burger and took home the rest. Nice lunch the next day. I will return.

Super great dining staff! Very homey environment with so many different food options on the menu from soup to cheesecake to veggies to pita plates! Will definitely come back for the food but the atmosphere as well:-)

This was $12..... are you f*n kidding me. I'm absolutely appalled that I really just paid that much for two pieces of French toast. Nothing on it, no side of bacon nothing. $12 for two dry ass pieces of bread. Don't go here, such a rip off.

We were in this neighborhood at dinnertime yesterday and wondered if there was a diner nearby. Voilà (thank you, Yelp app)....my husband ordered the chicken San Francisco and I ordered eggplant rollatini, both of which were delicious and the portions were plentiful (in fact, we probably could have gotten another meal out of them). They came with a small salad or cup of soup (we chose the vegetable soup) and two rolls/each, all of which were tasty. Since I'm obsessed with bread pudding (huge understatement), I got an order of that to go and it made a delicious breakfast today. Our server was exceptionally friendly and also attentive, the interior is attractive (art deco style) and the diner has an "A" rating from the Health Dept.

Best French toast ive ever had. The waitress was nice. The restaurant was pretty busy so it was a little loud but genuinely one of the best brunches I've ever had. We got back home from our trip to NYC and talked about how it was a highlight of the trip. Definitely check it out!

I really like this diner. It appears to be a traditional place. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Sandwiches are good, and poached eggs are my go to. The frittata was ok - probably wouldn't order it again. Not a whole ton of flavor. I suppose people like to add seasoning to their liking. Eggs were a little over cooked. I think from now on I would get the staples here. Coffee is strong and delicious. I have always wanted to try their Matzo ball soup. My boyfriend said that it looks delicious and completely legitimate here. Definitely a must try. The bathroom is spacious (so if you are going with your family - children or elderly) this is quite helpful. Some diner bathrooms are so tiny. They do have a changing table. The cake options look endless here.

Listed as open all day on Yelp. The website linked seems to be old or fraudulent and says they are open from 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. everyday. Real website found searching on Google lists hours. Open at 8:00 a.m. Confirmed when I walked there at 6:00 a.m. on a Saturday. Was looking for a 24-hour diner. This isn't it.

We have only ordered breakfast from here, but found the food to be satisfying. We got an omelette with toast, home fries and a side of sausage which was good as expected and the steak and eggs. The steak could have used some more seasoning, but overall was enjoyable. It is overpriced for diner food, but the portions are on the larger side and the food is what you expect when you order from a diner. I would not write home about it, but definitely would order from there again.

It is good diner food. Breakfast is definitely their best meal. (Although you can never go wrong having breakfast for dinner.) Servers are friendly although sometimes they are covering too many tables and you can't find your person when you want a refill on your drink or need extra syrup.

For lunch I was feeling a treat after doing an hour of intense hot yoga with my instructor. I decided to settle on a spot that would give me what I thought would be greasy satisfaction but instead gave me a sense of my favorite American TV show- Seinfeld. City diner prepared a thick veggie burger for me that did not crumble apart like most do. Very solid meal, not greasy at all, and the vibe in the diner was as if I'd been coming there forever. My friend got the Ruby Rueben and it looked delectable. This review could really be just one word: Lumberjack. And no, it's not about husky men with beards (which I also have a thing for, but that's a different story). The Lumberjack is the superstar of the all-day breakfast offerings here. It's a stack of plate-sized fluffy pancakes, two eggs and every type of breakfast meat you can think of -- a lovely griddled sausage link, a pile of crispy bacon, a slice of ham. Mmmmm. If you are after a breakfast feast, get a Lumberjack. We dined here twice... the first time I got french toast with eggs and sausage. Delicious. But my friend got the Lumberjack and I had ordering envy. The second time we ate here, I did not make the same mistake. But apparently I was so busy eating that I did not take a photo of the Lumberjack. Sorry, friends. You'll have to use your imaginations. #yelpfail The City Diner itself is a pretty standard 24-hour diner with a bit of New York flair. It seems like a place that could serve as a set for a movie set in the 50s or 60s... We really picked it because it was on the way home and offered 24-hour breakfast. The food was good and definitely met the need. Service was fine. We even took some muffins to go for the morning, and those were very good as well. All in all, a good place to stop for a quick bite, with a bonus star for all-day breakfast and that Lumberjack.

This was one of the first places my family and i came to dine post-quarantine and I'm so thrilled about how safe it was! The server was really friendly and once he saw we spoke Spanish began speaking in Spanish to us as well. He promptly took our order while keeping his mask on. All staff had masks and kept their social distance. It was outdoor seating and they cleaned and sanitized the tables after customers finished. They had an extensive menu and all the options seemed great! The burger was delicious and huge!! Fries were amazinggg. My sister got chicken scampi with pasta and it was also delicious. The server was attentive and a pleasure. Will definitely come back!! A pleasure to support our local essential workers during this difficult time.
