How High Gas Prices Impact Food Banks | Eater

"This New York City food-rescue organization redirects surplus, high-quality food to people in need and has felt fuel-price impacts in its distribution costs: the cost per pound transported rose from $0.18 to $0.21, and average freight costs are up about 20%. Because it rescues and delivers nearly 300,000 pounds of food daily, those increases add up quickly; the organization has also seen vendors donate less produce overall as rising operational costs squeeze suppliers." - Amy McCarthy

Restaurants Donate Perishable Food to Food Banks Amid COVID-19 Pandemic | Eater

"A New York food-rescue operation whose volunteers worked long shifts to process an unprecedented influx of donations from restaurants and institutions, collecting on the order of tens of thousands of pounds (roughly 36,000 to nearly 40,000 pounds in a short span) from nearly 50 restaurants alone—more than triple the typical weekly restaurant donations—and rapidly distributing produce, prepared foods, meat, dairy, and nonperishables to partner sites." - Brenna Houck

Brand new warehouse. Easy to arrive. Take I-278 to 3rd Ave exit. Make a left and follow to 52nd St. One way street so must come around to 52nd St. from 1st Ave. Receiving docks in the rear on 1st Ave. Check-in on the side of the building. (street side) Fast unloading. Plenty of room to back in. Receiving starts at 6am..will call you for a door when ready.

Although I visited last year, the experience has been remarkable, especially with how food is stored. It's heartwarming to see volunteers from big companies and enthusiastic school kids come together to pack the produce, which is then distributed to various pantries and mobile markets. It's truly a delightful experience that you would love.

City Harvest is amazing. The amount of people that they feed by rescuing over 85 million pounds of food per year is truly astounding.
