Where Nashville Food Writers Loved to Eat in 2018 | Eater Nashville

"I still think there’s no beating dinner at City House, and I’ve spent many working lunches and cooler nights cozied up there with carbs." - Delia Jo Ramsey

I toured with Carlos, as I live across the street and LOVE this neighborhood pocket of downtown. It is right across the street from King Soopers and Kriser's All Natural Pet Store. Easy access to Union Station and bus stops within 5 minute walking distance. It is a quiet area (aside from being next to the rail yard) and has the cutest private dog walk area. I am still deciding but go set up a meeting with Carlos. He is very informative and very active in improving the resident experience.

The apartment was nice for where we were located. Maintenance was hit or miss on if our problem would actually be resolved. For example, we complained about our balcony door not opening smoothly when we moved in, and we didn't actually get the problem resolved until 2 years later, when I had to go down in person and tell them that guests got locked out on our balcony, and my roommate had to climb out through the window to get the door open again. Management was actually pretty nice, but the blonde woman who worked there in September 2025 (I haven't seen her since) was rude, talked down to tenants - especially younger ones - and she never actually would really help resolve or listen to the issue that we had. Be careful in the garage, people go down it too fast, and drive in the middle of the road so it is really easy to get into a double head on collision in there if you aren't careful. They never installed the corner mirrors that I suggested they put in 6 months into my residency there. If they put in the mirrors that garage would be way safer. It would be 4 stars if they ever answered their phones. I have called so many times DURING BUSINESS HOURS and they have not answered. The only way to get an actual answer out of these people is to go in person. But if you go in person, Demetrius (written in 2025) has been fantastic to work with. He is knowledgeable, understands our issues, and works to help us get them resolved as soon as possible.

Been here for about 3 years, and don't plan on leaving anytime soon if the rent stays consistent! This place was a little rough when we first moved here. My bike got nicked from the garage, the garage doors were stuck open for quite some time, the elevators would break down constantly and for long periods of time, the and the dog run was/is absolutely disgusting, the grills didn't/don't get hot... but it was one of the cheapest apartments in the area so we just dealt with it. The complex has been slowly getting better over the years and shockingly, the rent has stayed the same. Carpets and lighting have all been replaced. The gym got a total makeover which has been really nice. The elevators don't break down nearly as often, and when they do the downtime isn't nearly as long. Same for the garage doors (though I still wouldn't keep a bike here anywhere but a private balcony). Just recently, I had the new property manager Carlos fix a package delivery problem my partner and I had been suffering from for months. This is all to say, the place really does seem to be putting in effort to make it a better place to live. It's not perfect, and it depends on your priorities. If you want a truly luxury apartment downtown with the nicest pool and amenities and bells and whistles, you're going to have to pay out the nose somewhere else. If you just want a solid place to live downtown with a competent and fast maintenance team (shoutout Don & Kevin), a really sweet cleaning staff (our dog Lola adores Anna), and a new management team that really does always seem to be trying their best (Demetrius & Carlos & I'm told more new hires coming soon), CityHouse might be for you. I wouldn't bet on any of the advertised amenities beyond the gym, but if you're looking for a place to live and prioritize reasonably sized, modern looking apartments in an unbeatable location, I don't think you'd find a place that fits the bill better than CityHouse.

We’re in the process of moving into City House Apartments, and our experience has been amazing so far! Carlos, our leasing agent, has been incredibly helpful every step of the way. He answered all of our questions promptly, followed up to make sure everything was taken care of, and truly went above and beyond to make what can be a stressful process feel easy and seamless. We really appreciate his professionalism and genuine care. Thank you, Carlos, for making our move-in experience such a positive one!

Don’t be fooled by the advertised clubhouse, amenities, or security. I’ve lived here for a year and have never been able to actually use the clubhouse. It was locked for over 8 months due to “renovations,” and even after it was supposedly reopened, residents still aren’t allowed to access it freely. You can only enter during office hours — your fob won’t work — and you have to find a leasing agent to let you in. Most of the time, no one is available to do that. So before signing a lease, ask clearly whether residents can access the clubhouse on their own, and when it’s actually open. The amenities look nice on paper, but in reality, they’re not available to residents. As for security, it’s basically nonexistent. Yes, there’s a phone number you can call, and supposedly a security guard somewhere, but definitely not on-site. Homeless individuals are often found sleeping in the stairwells at night, and when you call “security,” they promise to handle it but never show up. The grills in the courtyard have been broken and Never Work for over a year now!! The light bulbs hanging in the courtyard are all out, literally. Only four lights are still working at this point. Making the courtyard soo dark and unsafe. The staircases are filthy — they often smell like urine and vomit, with visible blood stains and trash left behind. I’ve asked multiple times for the management to have them power washed, especially since I live close to the stairwell and have to use it regularly instead of the elevator. My requests have been completely ignored. I really like the maintenance crew, and the cleaners.. they are very kind and try to help as much as they can! They do a great job with what they have.

I am here pet sitting for a friend and LOVE the ambiance. Everyone is friendly, the gym is well equipped, well-lit and clean. The community room is filled with light and has a delicious espresso machine. Don, the maintenance supervisor goes over and beyond. He is an ambassador of kindness saying hi and asking how your day is going. The location puts you right in the downtown vibe with Union Station and Confluence Park just minutes away.

Let me just tell you that the new leasing manager, Carlos, is totally the man! I am usually really hesitant about talking to people and making big decisions like moving, but he seriously made it so easy that I had no problems doing both of those things. The apartments are really nice and they have everything you could possibly want in a complex, including a dog run, but the real reason to move here is the staff! Honestly, he is the most friendly person I have ever had the pleasure of having in the office where I live. It’s a win, win. There wasn’t even a close second choice. Check it out ASAP. You will see what I mean.
