Google
The location is great, right on the Mississippi River. Always looks busy, people drinking, playing corn hole, dog friendly. The bar looked very inviting and was very busy. The food is a different thought altogether. A simple chip doesn't need to be over fried. The burger was lacking flavor, and the chicken sandwich should be taken off the menu. The chicken itself was about 1/8 thick at best and, again, over fried to remove any amount of moisture it once had. The cheese curds are your standard frozen and fried variety, nothing great. The only thing worth consuming was the strawberry sauce they add to the cheese curds. Price was a little high, considering you ordered online and picked up your own food at the food truck window. Cleanup is left upon the patrons' discretion.

Google
I would say they had some nice food choices. A little bland for me tho. Had to clean my own table as no one else was doing it. The kitchen is separated from where you buy your drinks. Which means two separate lines with two separate bills to pay. It was very busy but a lot of seating. You have to find street parking and go down some stairs. There may have been some other parking further away so someone needing access with wheelchair would have a distance to travel there. The balcony overseeing the river was nice tho.

Google
Cozy, ultra welcoming staff, kind people visiting, hidden and great for kids. What a place for a Canadian to visit! The quesadilha is out of this world. Burgers and fries, amazing! No friendlier staff than the Beer counter. Solid!

Lily

Google
The food and location are the saving grace since the staff seems a little disconnected to patrons after they make their purchases. Waited for our food 3x longer due to the cashier not correctly getting my phone number to let me know when the food was ready. Food sat in thw window while we watched other people get fed.

Google
Me and my wife went to St Paul City House just on a spin and believing or not the area before you get to the city house is this unimaginable beautiful quiet tranquil I mean I love this so much for I had to pinch myself

Ger V.

Google
That was my first time when me and my wife walking at outside. We saw that a truck but what is that? We don’t know what is inside. We are go into and I saw inside have a food. My wife want to order a sandwich with fries. The City House is great food.

Hiram W.

Google
Right off the trail, one of the most picturesque bars/restaurants in the area. Beautiful seating right on the Mississippi River makes for a great place to stop and have some drinks and an appetizer. Also, their salad is fantastic.

Sarah Doyel S.

Google
I rated the service low only because it was almost self serve. We had a great lunch and a couple of beers. We were out on the deck and loved watching the river traffic. Note: if you need wheelchair access it's quite a long walk but would totally be worth it and accessible when you get down there. Hubby had a Cubano sandwich with house made chips and I had a taco salad. Both were excellent!

Yelp
After exploring the city all morning we saw this place across the river. It looked cool, and we weren't wrong. The view was so peaceful of the Mississippi River. The weather was just right where we didn't get hot blazing sun nor rained on. I got an IPA and my friend got one of their mixed cocktail. Their cocktail were all premade and came out of the spout like the beer. It tasted good too. My beer was delicious. We sat on the balcony overlooking the water and just relaxed and drank. Inside the place, there were plenty of seating and even cornhole. There was also a food vendor inside. Bartender was friendly. Order at the front and grab a seat.

Yelp
Lovely setting in a historic building on the mighty Mississippi! Casual, open, great summer hang!

Yelp
City House - I'm stuck somewhere between a 3 and 4, so consider this review a 3.5 stars of out of 5. I visited with a small group of people in the evening and enjoyed the time spent there! TLDR; good cocktails, great views, live music The interior is so neat! There is exposed building combined with plants, string lights, and Polaroids. Plus there is plenty of indoor seating. There's some balcony/patio seating with a fabulous view, but that is significantly more limited. When we first arrived, there was live music, which was a bonus. The menu - there are QR codes on the table and small printed menus at the bar. Unfortunately that means if you're a first time visitor, it's confusing to find a food menu and by the time you spot it, it's nearly your turn to order and now you're blocking the line. Def could improve the communication on that front! Drinkies - the beer and cocktail menu is well lit and lets you know what is on tap! Cocktails are batched during busy hours and come out on the bar quickly after ordering. The margarita and the raspberry mojitos were delicious! I might not be the most up to date with drink prices in the area, but I did find $11 for a margarita served in a plastic cup to be a bit steep. The raspberry mojito had a bit more flourish with raspberry and mint garnishes. Overall, I would come back to this spot for a hangout with friends! I think the key is having good company. {2024 Review No. 2}

Yelp
City House is super cool. Tons of taps, good food, and a better view! Also would highly recommend the food here - the cubano, cheese curds, and chips/salsa were all sampled by my crew. They have some crazy unique salsas on the salsa bar ranging from a fantastic typical red to pineapple and even a crazy hot scorpion. Beware!

Yelp
City house is on the Visit St. Paul Patio Passport. We stopped in on a Sunday to check it out. Following the gps via walking was a little hard to find but it's right on the river. Behind the apts in the area. It gives brewery vibes. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating on the patio is nice, right by the water - scenic. They have a lot of drinks/beers to choose from as well as a few food items. I got the Spiked Berry Lemonade, which was great. Prices were decent. At the time of our visit the bathroom was closed due to the water being high so they had portable toilets. Overall this was a cool, chill vibes place to grab drinks with friends.

Yelp
Nice hangout place overlooking Mississippi River in downtown St Paul. The beer selection is pretty extensive, friendly staff and the have food menu prepared in their food truck. Had a good time with my wife and my corgi pup.
google avatar

Robert R.

Yelp
If you want a great view of the Mississippi River with your dinner City House is your place. They have really good burgers and tacos. With a nice selection of beers on tap.

Emily B.

Yelp
Food truck food was good, cider was yummy and they even had a few toys for kids and bags!

Brandy S.

Yelp
The scenery was very nice with the river, the food was terrible. it's basically a bad food truck inside of a building. I had a Cubano which was ok. very very spicy to the point I was crying. My boyfriend burger was disgusting it tasted like old meat. cheese balls we're bland. and plz stay away from the strawberry sauce that comes with the cheese balls. it taste freezer burnt. My water was good that's about it. I give this a 2/10 definitely don't recommend

Yelp
This place is such a hidden gem! Right on the Mississippi in downtown St. Paul, this bright and open bar/restaurant is the perfect place to grab a drink on a hot Minnesota day. Service was amazing and the workers did great despite it being busy! The quesadillas were amazing! There is a self serve salsa bar, so I highly recommend getting the chips to try out all the fun flavors! Parking is a little weird as you have to park in the ramp (see photo) but definitely worth it! City house is also doggo friendly and they have a whole board dedicated to showing off their fury customers!
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
This is a lovely little spot along the river. Views are outstanding so grab a table on the patio, sit back and relax and you watch the lazy river saunter by. It's not a brewery nor restaurant but beer and food are available. I chose a Sierra Nevada on tap. They have several on tap options and many cans available. Food is served via food truck parked right up next to the place (food window is literally in the building). We chose chips and salsa. I wasn't a fan. It was a fine snack but nothing special. Chips did not taste homemade. Salsa you dispense yourself. It's super dog-friendly. They have HUGE dog treats they offer your pets (if the parents allow). Tons of games are available inside. And, like I said, the views are definitely worth the

Yelp
Will absolutely be back. City House is clean and beautifully airy! Cuban sandwich was phenomenal. We also ordered an espresso martini and the chicken sandwich, and both were delicious.

Yelp
My spouse and I love coming here. Have a walk and come and enjoy some drinks and food next to the river. My spouse and I have a love for the 1919 root beer and this place carries it on tap once in awhile. My spouse also loves all the options for beers too. We have yet to try their cocktails but I'm sure they are amazing. Ordering drinks is always easy and quick. You order and then get your drinks right away and you find a place to sit. As for food, you use a QR code and order online. Once ready, you go grab your food and condiments. Super simple and quick. We love their fried pickles. The place is super cute and welcoming to pets and families. On certain days, they do have live music which is nice. There is a small patio area right next to the water that is super nice. Simple and easy place to chill and enjoy the view.

Yelp
Don't get the nachos. They taste like an after thought. They had chips and salsa and threw on some lettuce and guac from a tube. Had like 3 pieces of shredded chicken. Not worth it lol. They have a big craft beer selection, bit it's like the most basic beers from the respective brewery. I was excited to see that they had mead. I had the City House Famous Raspberry Mojito and enjoyed it. I would recommend the mojito. The space itself had an old building charm to it and I liked the patio area. Very spacious inside. They also had a lot of games available. Good place to bring your kids and have a beer.
google avatar

Stephanie B.

Yelp
Good for drinks and apps, the atmosphere was great not too loud and just a comfy vibe. Location is beautiful next to the river and for a Saturday we got a patio seat pretty easy. This is a dog friendly location and they have a dog wall of photos which is adorable! The bartenders were very friendly and when I didn't like my original drink they let me get a new one. Service was fast and easy. The main foods weren't anything spectacular but decent. The price's definitely range on the $$ - $$$ just depends what you are ordering but I would prob guess you'll spend 20-50 dollars per person here for food and drinks.
google avatar

Yelp
Woaaah! This place is cuuuuuute. Other than the stunning views this place also has great beers on tap, and a food truck! I love that it's not located on a street - it's literally just off a bike path. You have to park in the nearby apartment street parking or walk/bike there! Highly recommend coming here when the fall leaves are popping! They close in the winter time - FYI. Cheers!

Yelp
Chill atmosphere with great views, good food and drinks, and friendly workers. My husband and I came for date night after a stint around lake Phalen in a canoe. It was a nice evening and with everything opening back up during the pandemic, plenty of folks were out enjoying the warm weather. All the seats along the rail with river views were taken, but we snagged a table close by and waited like vultures for someone to leave a table from the prime real estate areas, which didn't take too long. We ordered food at the bar and received a little buzzer, while we waited for it to go off, we enjoyed a couple drinks. I had some raspberry mojito drink thing, not boozy enough for a lush like me, but refreshing. We tried the Cuban sandwich and a special Diablo burger. The Cuban was tasty, the burger could have been spicer, but all in all we were full and content. I'd recommend a jaunt out this way, maybe take a walk along the river before or after

Yelp
We came here on a Wednesday around 11:30 am to beat the lunch crowd. I've always seen this place packed in the evenings. They have a picturesque view of the river and ample seating inside. Nachos are trying too hard to be a taco salad with how much lettuce they put on it. If you don't mind basic store bought tortilla chips covered with lettuce and a minimal amount of queso, then the St Paul Nachos ($12) are for you. Absolutely skip on the rosé, it was $13 which is more than a regular 750 ml bottle at any grocery store. Also no tap water available, only bottled water ($3). The Cubano sandwich (mojo pork, ham, swiss cheese, pickles & dijonaise) was amazing, truly great flavor! Definitely star of the menu, but the side of kettle chips were stale and tasted like they came from a three week old open bag. Overall I'd probably skip on coming back for anything other than the beer on tap.
google avatar

Cassandra A.

Yelp
I did not eat here so I can't comment on that. I did have a tasty n/a beverage and sat on the patio enjoying a conversation with a friend while watching barges and kayakers stream by. It is a very cool spot right on the river. The bartender was very helpful. I don't drink alcohol so he told me what cocktails he could make mocktails. I had the Spiked Berry Lemonade without the spike :) and it was delicious. For beer drinkers there is a plethora on tap from local breweries. Dogs are welcome and people definitely take advantage of this, most of the people there when I was there had a dog. They have board games you can take to your table and play. I wish I had found this place earlier in the spring or summer I would have come here a lot! It closes for the winter.
google avatar

Carissa E.

Yelp
It's been several years since I've last been but yesterday was a beautiful day and I was in the neighborhood. They have definitely made quite a few changes and upgrades since I've last been. More games, more dining tables, full bar and more. Such an awesome space right on the River. You order your drinks at the bar and then need to order from the QR code at your table (I'm not sold on the qr thing but it's becoming more and more popular) I have had the cubano in the past (very good) this time I ordered the chicken nachos, pretty darn good I must say.
google avatar

Joshua H.

Yelp
Great food, gorgeous view. The tacos were a hit - stop by on a sunny day and remember what is good in life.
google avatar

Sarah E.

Yelp
The location is great! Right on the river with an open air atmosphere. Hard to find a table on the Friday night we went. Food was ok, not amazing, but it was decent. The French fries were good! They were out of any bottled or filtered water, which was a bummer. The selection of beers and ciders was good though. Service wasn't the best, but there was also a private party in the back, and they were busy.
google avatar

Brad L.

Yelp
This place was awesome and had so much space and a great view of the river if you can find a spot to overlook it. Plenty of unique tap flavors and they offer flights, so you can try multiple. I didn't try their food, but they have their own food truck and it smelled amazing. The only negative things about this place is that they are only seasonal and do not have much parking available. They do have places for you to park your bike. We found some street parking, but may be difficult if it's packed.
google avatar

Michele H.

Yelp
Very interesting place! Located on the Mississippi River in downtown St. Paul, an old grain elevator has been turned into a bar with the feel of a brewery. They have a rotating tap with local beers and ciders, some cocktail options, and a food truck. Large garage doors give an airy atmosphere to the inside of City House. I really enjoyed the view and the atmosphere. Dining options on the river in St. Paul are like non existent, so it was fun to sit up over the water by the river's edge. Their tap selection was good and I enjoyed my Cuban sandwich from the food truck. There wasn't much seating (not sure if this was due to Covid) and I could see this place being VERY busy on the weekend (I went on a Wednesday). It's a cool idea and I recommend checking it out!
google avatar

Sarah T.

Yelp
Love the ambiance of this place. Food was also excellent! Took out of town guests and they loved being "right on the River".
google avatar

Susan K.

Yelp
The view at this restaurant is amazing! That is what you will be paying for. I was here on a Tuesday (after a very pleasant weekend) & the bar had NO hard ciders available & the blackboard indicated 2 cocktails were unavailable; after I ordered the bartender had to let me know additional drinks were unavailable (no sangria & no berries for the spiked berry lemonade). My $13 plate of pork nachos literally contained ONLY 2 very small pieces of pork - my sister said, "looks more like a salad". This is a SELF-SERVE Restaurant; you order & pay for your drinks at the bar; water is available at a self-serve "hydration station" & you order your food on-line (using the QR code on the table), pay on-line & you are notified by text when your order is ready & you are instructed to "pick up from the middle window inside - DO NOT GO TO THE BAR!" They do serve food on compostable paper plates; have plastic utensils (out in open trays for anyone to touch) & a really diverse selection of salsas (for self-dispensing); AS A NURSE, this is not a great idea with hospitalizations from COVID variants on the rise in mid-2023. There were lots of taps & it would have been interesting to know how many were really available (none covered in any way indicating unavailable).
google avatar

Dominik D.

Yelp
I am impressed by their beer selection, it's pretty big. I'm not impressed by their prices, $8 for a beer. They are located directly across the river from the Padelford Cruises.
google avatar

Hoa N.

Yelp
Fist time here and heard about City House through the St. Paul Parks and Rec newsletter. They were having their end of season blowout with everything $3 so it was a great day to visit. Drinks and food were good. Service was good and the dining area was big enough to spread out for COV-ID precautions. There's a small patio seating area and the view from the patio is spectacular with the fall foliage in the foreground. Food and drinks order at the country as you enter and then you get a pager for food pickup at the food truck outside. The burger was a little under cook for my daughter.
google avatar

Missy A.

Yelp
I love city house. Been so many times and always love it. The food, drinks, the view. It's all fantastic. But I'm disappointed with my latest visit. I ordered the Oktoberfest pork knuckle with roasted potatoes and sauerkraut... and instead got all this pasta with it with no explanation as to why. For $32 is should be as described.
google avatar

Krista K.

Yelp
Great spot to enjoy a beautiful summer night! The drink selection was great and the view was lovely! The food was fine, nothing spectacular but it got the job done. Next time we'll stick to appetizers and drinks!

Andrea C.

Yelp
Amazing relaxing place...great food drink and dog watching. get the nachos. Good place to watch the world go by... ..

Jenny H.

Yelp
Food, service and everything was great!! Our favorite person was the GM Bailey, she was so kind and welcoming! Will be coming back to see her!
google avatar

McKenzie S.

Yelp
This is the perfect date night spot! City House is located right on the river so you can grab a cold beverage and take in the views. They also have a decent food menu which you can order inside and then pick up from the food truck outside. The bar is open until 9:00 (or at least on the weekends) but the kitchen does close at 8:00. We got there just in time so lucky us. The inside gives you industrial warehouse feels and has a breezy open atmosphere. The tables outside are usually snatched up pretty quick but you can still grab a table inside and have a nice view. The Saturday we went they had a rotation of Surly on tap. Can't go wrong there. I also had a delicious Raspberry Mojito that was perfect for the hot summer day. We shared a plate of shredded pork nachos which were ok. I would probably try one of the actual meals next time. Overall, it was a great Saturday night spot to grab a drink and a snack. We saw they have live music every Friday so can't wait to check that out!
google avatar

Gary R.

Yelp
Fabulous riverfront patio. Good selection cray beers. Enjoyed the street tacos from the permanent food truck. Good selection of games.
google avatar

Chrystal S.

Yelp
Located in the old St. Paul Municipal Grain Terminal. Today was a beautiful day for casual dinning and drinks with a gorgeous view of the Mississippi River. Easy access from shepherd Rd, parking today was no problem. Menu is limited but good. Same for drinks. September has live music on Friday evenings. River Walking trails are right out the door so bike, walk, scooter or drive.
google avatar

Hannah H.

Yelp
Nice spot for a beer and nachos on a cool day. You can sit inside the warehouse or they have some tables on the river. They have so many beer choices and other drinks that everyone in our party could get something they liked! The only con is that the area with games towards the back can get quit loud and can echo in the space. We also found the beer/food to be on the expensive side for what it was but all in a decent spot
google avatar

Barclay W.

Yelp
The only thing that can make drinks better is a great view, and the City House has a fantastic view. They converted an old shipping space into a bar, so it is literally right on the water. You have fantastic views of the Mississippi from wherever you sit. The bar itself is a large space divided up into different sort of areas. It is nice because it is big enough you never feel cramped, and there is space to fit whatever you want to do. They are also very dog and kid friendly, so that is a big plus for us. They have a big drink menu, so everyone in your party should be pleased. I had one of their mojitos, and it was really good. Not the best I've had, but definitely up there. We didn't get to try the food, unfortunately, but it looked and smelled fantastic. Take a nice stroll down the river, and make this a stop along your way for a bite and drink. You won't regret it.
google avatar

Rebekah L.

Yelp
Leave it to Saint Paul to create a great space for a relaxing meet up by the river. Originally erected as grain elevator in 1927, City House is a historic Saint Paul Landmark. Located right on the Saint Paul River walk, it's tucked right off Shepard Road behind River City Flats. This space has a calm ambience, mixed with beautiful river views and a wine and beer list to make any a patron satisfied. The venue offers multiple seating option and a riverside patio which spans the length of the building, great for a date night or casual hang. The menu options of food are a mix of MN eclectic, with offerings for all from vegetarians to vegans and everything in between. Red River kitchen outside City House also offers delicious options with a menu of creative and tasty dishes. If you're looking for a great spot during the summer, and early fall - stop in for a visit

Laure O.

Yelp
Shame on you! So, tonight, bathrooms are flooded so unavailable to patrons - that should have been posted for patrons to see before entering and ordering food and drink! Only after entering, ordering food and drink is there a sign. How can a "restaurant" stay open if the BATHROOMS are NOT OPEN Gee, to whom in StPaul should I make a call tomorrow ?
google avatar

Gita B.

Yelp
Torn about posting a review because I'm selfish I don't want this secret gem to explode into popularity! City House has the potential to be THE place to be this summer. It has everything: supreme real estate right on the river, free indoor parking, dog friendly on the patio, a great tap, wine, and cocktail list, and Friday evening live music. I'm sure I'm missing additional accolades. Current food list is a-okay pub food. Rumor is that a new menu will debut May 24! This is definitely going to be our summer hangout spot, and hopefully no one else's, haha!
google avatar

Dylan R.

Yelp
Really awesome place to get a beer and enjoy along the river. During the summer, indoor and outdoor have a nice breeze (the indoor is opened up to the outdoors). I got a Tropical Wheat beer which was amazing! Views of the river are incredible. Much prefer it over Psycho Susie's view. Will absolutely be back!
google avatar

Joe N.

Yelp
Wonderful views of the river, and very good food. We had cubano sandwich, brat sandwich, black and blue burger, and a salad, plus a combination of drinks. All very good. This is a GEM!
google avatar

Maura G.

Yelp
I was double charged for lunch. I called the phone number on the Google look up and City Parks answered. They said City House has No phone number. How convenient! Only contact message from the web site. I did that the 16th and have not heard a word. Both transactions have processed now. Not impressed.
google avatar

Mark A.

Yelp
Had two nice visits last week. Super cool space. Great river views, not too crowded. Food was wonderful and fairly priced. Bad: Plastic beer and wine cups. Really. For the $$$$ this is a deal killer. Bad enough that they are counter service AND expect nice tip $$$. One of my visits was with a group I organized -$35 tip and they did nothing ...I even cleaned up after us ... at least let me enjoy a beer from a glass.. best -
google avatar

Walt R.

Yelp
It's a great location as you can sit on the river and watch the boats as you enjoy a good beer. However, I would skip the food next time. We had their burger and their veggie burger. They said it would take 45 minutes and it took over an hour. Then the food wasn't even warm anymore. And it just didn't taste that good. So for the price I would take my appetite somewhere else. Plenty of great places within walking distance.

Tom B.

Yelp
I went here today for lunch with friends. It is a food truck. I had a ten dollar beer and asked if I could order at the bar. I do not give my credit card info over an app I do not have history with. The bartender told me No if I did not order and pay at the table I could not order food. Service is non-existent, Not sure how the food is as I could not get any and the place is a food truck. Never going back, there are too many options to try in the T/C.

Brian K.

Yelp
Great place to grab a drink and get out of the sun. Friendly staff and nice selection of beverages. View can't be beat!
google avatar

Amy O.

Yelp
Fun place for a drink by the river. Food is nothing exceptional, but I wouldn't expect great food from a place run by Lancer Catering. Bring a water bottle since their only option is paying for bottled water!

Joanna B.

Yelp
OK, so this is not a restaurant. It is a food truck attached to a large barn-like dining room and a bar. Everything is self-serve from find your own table, to get your own drinks (for a glass of water, they give you a cup with ice and you have to fill it yourself from a drinking fountain outside the bathrooms), order from your cell phone, pick up your food from the truck and bus your own table. We needed salt and nobody could find any for us. The view has great possibilities, but there were gravel barges parked right under the terrace that kind of took away from the ambience. The food is just OK. It comes in a paper tray with plastic utensils that you get yourself. Oh, and don't forget to tip. The minimum choice on the on-line order site is 15% for absolutely no service. Really, folks, this is not even one step up from McDonalds in terms of service. In case you find a way past that, there are buckets everywhere marked "TIPS" nudging for extra cash for the non-existent waitstaff. I would recommend this place to a group of millenials looking for a few flights of beer and maybe a card game at the picnic table. For anyone else, there are hundreds of better choices.
