One of the absolute must sees in KC from Spring to Fall. Your kids will love it too. Come early to find a parking spot I usually go around 8:30/9:00 and can find a parking spot. All parking is metered so just follow the instructions when you get there it’s easy. Lots of food choices and GUYS if you want to get your ladies some flowers do your self a big favor stop and get her a fresh bundle of flowers prices are amazing and on average $20/25 dollars. You can bring your dogs but they are not allowed in the covered vendor stalls. You can take the trolley from Union Station all the way to the market which is sooo cool but keep in mind if you find some amazing things you have to carry them on the trolley back to your car so plan accordingly. This is also a great place if your solo lots of things to keep you busy… Also…GUYS again… This IS a prime spot for finding a nice little LADY, the girls are everywhere!!!

Google
This place was okay! It has a bunch of stores and shops but I think it's not too exciting and more quiet. There are some good prices with the produce and some nice shops overall though.

Alissa Boehner

Google
Fantastic City Market! Food options from all over the world! Produce, flowers, spices, loose teas and international items available to purchase just to name a few! We will always stop in when we are visiting KC

Joel Taylor

Google
What a great Market. There were inside, permanent vendors, and outside vendors that setup for the day. The vendors had vintage items, jewelry, wine, spirits, BBQ sauce, vegetables, flowers, plants, and more. There was a nice selection of restaurants and breweries within walking distance.

Veronica Hardy

Google
Great little selection of shops! Each one unique and great prices. I couldn’t believe how fresh the fruit looked, the coffee house was superb, cool artwork!

Sarah Drewing

Google
Paid parking has been easy to find and it’s conveniently close. It’s a neat place to peruse. There are several options for food. Great way to spend time with friends.

Google
Awesome place that was well thought out! Every shop has different cultural food. On that same note, skip the Vietnamese restaurant, waited 45 minutes, and never even had the lady take my drink orders. She seemed to be racist towards white people, so we left. Hopefully, they put a different vendor in that location. The taco shop next door was excellent and very friendly. We visited on a Monday, and many shops are closed on Monday, so plan accordingly

Google
Wow, what a great place to visit! So many vendors, flowers and fresh produce options.

Yelp
First off, we are NOT shoppers and we HATE browsing. ***UNTIL TODAY*** We recently moved to Missouri from a tiny town in Northern Minnesota. Our next door neighbor invited us to visit the City Market in downtown KCMO, and we were blown away by all of the beautiful, fresh produce from vendors who garden their products. Colorful bouquets. Outstanding prices on the fresh fruits and vegetables. We were impressed with the multi-ethnic shops and their offerings. My husband - - who hates shopping more than me - - liked it SOOOO WELL, he's looking forward to a return visit next weekend!

Yelp
4.5 stars. City market offer vibrant market in Kansas City. It is a multi building market. Weekend is the most vendors display their good. Parking available with a small fees. If you try to park at the neighborhood, make sure is not city parking or commercial parking. You may get toll. The market may take 1.5 to complete. If you want try the street food, it may take longer. I like food vendor that grilled turkey leg. They are one of the popular vendors. There are several food vendors that are very attractive. At farmer market side, we bought the blueberry bacon jam. It is definitely rare and delicious. Who doesn't like bacon. There is a pork skin, t-shirt, Indian jewelry, flowers, produce vendors. There are several spice vendor. You can have them match and mixed the spice you need.

Yelp
Really cool place. great ambiance. Crowded as can be on the weekend so be prepared to stand in lines for food. But the food is reasonably priced and tasty. One word of caution.. the men's bathroom is a complete disaster and is gross. There was feces on the walls. Looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years.

Yelp
What a cool place that has so many great little shops, restaurants and also a museum. Really enjoyed visiting this market stop and enjoy the variety of food choices.

Yelp
My husband and I recently went to the City Market. It's been awhile since we've been and it's changed quite a bit. Still a fun outdoor and indoor venue. There are plenty restaurants around you'll be sure to find something to eat. So many choices for produce and beautiful flowers. There is one phenomenal garden shop. The biggest drawback is parking it could take some time. It's a good way to spend your day!

Yelp
We visited this farmer market on a Saturday morning in April. I can see the tulip and asparagus were in season. There were vendors for art and crafts, fresh Veggie, live plants and herb, flowers, etc. Some restaurant and coffee shops were opened. A musician was playing banjo. He was pretty good. Those unique shops reflect the true color of the city. The only problem was the parking fee. I guess this was inevitable. Overall it was a fun market to visit. It turned out to be better than I expected.

Yelp
5/5 I love me a great farmers market! This one is one of the best I've visited stateside. What's to love: It's huge! Plan to visit for a couple of hours so you get to immerse yourself in the full experience. It's organized well. Foods items are located together. If you're looking for flowers they are located together. It's the same for jewelry, clothing, accessories. There are a bundle of small, permanent shops & restaurants that are not to be missed. There is a garden shop that is incredible. The meat shop is reminded me of the old Italian meat shops of my childhood. The coffee shop roasts their own coffee and has freshly pressed juices. We visited a morning in September and our only regret is having eaten just before coming. Next time I'm going to come here hungry. There's so many good food options. It's great people watching. There are great deals on every day items. This market was one of my favorite KC adventures. I can't wait to return. September 2023

Yelp
What a fabulous, bustling market! It was our first time visiting KC and our friends took us here on a Saturday morning. We had three kids in tow, but this whole space is definitely family-friendly. The lively atmosphere is really enjoyable! If I lived locally, I'd no doubt come here for fresh produce, flowers, jams, sauces, meats, and more. There's nothing like locally sourced goods. You'll find tons of these available inside the open-aired greenhouse-like structures that are the focal point of the market. Surrounding them are dozens of other vendors and speciality shops. We started our morning with coffees and pastries, and by the time lunch rolled around we had a tough time choosing from all of the wonderful small businesses on-site. Craving Brazilian food? They've got it. Maybe Indian or BBQ? You're covered. Sammies, salads, and bowls? Yep! It's great because everyone can get what they're interested and then meet back up to enjoy. I can see why City Market is a KC staple. I'd certainly enjoy a return when I'm next in town.

Yelp
I suspect that "City Market" is really a staple for local residents. I am told that they operate a farmers' market on site regularly. As a tourist, I explored City Market because I was also visiting the "Arabia Steamboat Museum". This aside, there's a nice eclectic assortment of shops on site. There are some good restaurants, too. I ate at one of them. BTW .. free 2-hour parking is available. They enforce actively. I suspect that the parking lot uses a license plate reader to keep tabs on vehicles entering and exiting the parking lot, and that is how they keep track of how long you have been in the parking lot.

Yelp
This is an interesting market for a non-resident of Kansas City. This place had some great little shops, vendors food, etc. but it was busy. Definitely something to visit if you are in the area.

Yelp
When it comes to a year around farmer's market style set up, City Market is gonna fit the bill every time. They have some of the most eclectic vendors I have ever seen, and I have been going for years with my husband, and before that, my late mother. My most favorite bakery resides in this setup, Bloom Baking Co(this last visit, I picked up two simple syrups, a jar cookie mix, a shirt for the hubby, a chocolate chunk cookie and peanut butter cookie). Also, in this complex with Bloom, it is also the Steamboat Arabia Museum you can tour for a fee. My husband and I also had the chance to stop by the Candy Wizard shop to look around and pick up a couple of things. On top of the great vendors of spices, fruits, and vegetables, etc... they have some great restaurants right in the same area, from pizza to Asian and in between. You could spend all day down there and never be done going through it truthfully. For people who love to explore, shop by shop, it will be culinary/shopping heaven. For some, it would be a bucket list item to visit, for others a staple, either way, you get a great experience, and to know your vendors in the process, and how their service works for their businesses.

Yelp
If you're a local, City Market is great for stuff for your home like home goods, fresh flowers, a fresh produce. They have 3 large greenhouse type areas where they sell all of these but as tourist, I can't really take any of those home. However, the outer edge of the market has a lot of restaurants and would be a good place to grab a coffee or lunch. I saw a lot of people grab breakfast and hung out because there were tables outside the little restaurants. There's the free streetcar called the KC streetcar that drops you multiple points around the market so it make it worth checking out more.

Yelp
Super cute farmers market that had produce, hand made goods such as earrings, and little shops. We liked the Italian one a lot, we got a super good cannoli from it. This is a really fun little place to walk through even if you're not looking to buy anything!
google avatar

Ashley D.

Yelp
City market is such a great way to spend a Saturday morning! Grab an iced coffee from one of the local coffee shops (opera house is my fav!) and walk around the various vendors! We got a variety of things such as produce and sweet treats! Highly recommend microgreens kc! It was a beautiful way to spend the morning!
google avatar

Angie B.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to go on a Saturday or Sunday morning; especially in the Spring and Summer. The ambiance and atmosphere is really just Kansas Citians at their best. I love the vendors and never feel pressured to buy anything. When City Market is full is when it's at it's best and a full morning/ afternoon excursion. Plus, there has never been a time yet in all my years of going to City Market that I didn't stop by the Italian grocery and deli for the real ingredients to my Grandpa's authentic sauce. Great service no matter which business is your favorite!
google avatar

Yelp
This place completely exceeded my expectations! I was thinking casual farmers market, and this place was Pine Place Market level. An incredible KC must-do! First of all, there are free teams that connect the downtown area to here so you can tram in and out for free. Win! Once you arrive, you'll find some awesome permanent shops and restaurants around the perimeter in both the closed-in and open-air buildings. There are an endless array of food options, gelato, coffee, specialty shops, and more! In the middle of the area, you'll find glass open-air structures that house the farmers market on the weekends. Fresh produce, flowers, honey, meats, and much more all in one spot! This is a must for a weekend morning or early afternoon - get coffee and a pastry while you walk around, then treat yourself to lunch and some shopping here.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
City Market is an interesting, free diversion that's integral to Kansas City's north side. It's just over the river from downtown. Largely a farmers market with ever changing vendors and fresh produce, the covered, open air space also has a few permanent vendors--such as a spice shop--with enclosed stalls. Restaurants ring the market, and for now the wonderful Steamboat Arabia Museum sits across the parking lot. The market is open year round. On weekends you might also enjoy street musicians here. An adequate parking lot is available, plus there's street parking.
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
Ditch the grocery store, and make this your new weekly adventure! You will save so much money on food, and get the best deals! The staff working at the entire market is helpful, kind, and to me- family! The environment is so refreshing, so many shops and services available you can make an entire morning out of it. This has been a weekend tradition for years that my family members started to do also! If you are going for a haul, take a cart! (We do!) Grab a coffee, handmade pop tart or cannoli from the Italian market! The pop-up shops and local vendors that are there are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet! Don't forget to grab a fresh bouquet of flowers for your home!

Yelp
Love Saturday mornings checking out the City Market. So many good coffee shops, vendors, and food to check out. A great KC staple if you're visiting the area!
google avatar

Iris T.

Yelp
Popped in today as it was a sunny 20 degrees this morning. Stopped by last week, but there was only 1 vendor since we had heavy snowfall last week. There were only a few vendors here today, but bought some pork rinds & crackling. This vendor drives all the way from NE! Curious what the Apple Pie Pork Rinds taste like. They offer samples, but didn't try it before I bought it. I love coming here in the spring and summer months when the produce is plentiful. Have bought huge ears of corn in the past for just 50¢ each!
google avatar

Courtney C.

Yelp
Love city market on the weekends. They have imperfect veggies for $1! The vintage market days are a blast! The only thing that's not fun about the city market is the parking situation.
google avatar

Yelp

Nestled in the heart of Kansas City, this market has gained a well-deserved reputation for its diverse offerings and lively atmosphere. With its commitment to supporting local farmers, artisans, and small businesses, the Kansas City Farmers Market has become a beloved destination for both residents and visitors alike. In this review, we delve into five key aspects that make this market truly exceptional, earning it a perfect 5/5 rating.

Yelp
I've been coming here virtually all of my life. Made a quick stop at the close of the day to pick up green tomatoes. As GOD would have it, one vendor was packing up to leave and waula! I got just what I needed and then some. No usual Saturday crowd, parking woes or animals to dodge. Just like the burger joint, In and Out. Woo hoo!
google avatar

Tracy K.

Yelp
When in KC, do not miss the Saturday City Market. While vendors are open other days, nothing compares to the hustle and bustle of a Saturday morning, Parking has gotten to be a pain in that area, so I highly suggest parking downtown or midtown and riding the streetcar, which stops right at the City Market, or find the free parking in the parking lot across the highway at roughly 6th & Main Street. We love walking up and down the aisles of vendors and then going back to make purchases. Lots of great food, produce, food and other items -- something new every time. Also just up the street from the Market, do not miss Planter's Seed & Spice - it's a KC icon with rustic, squeaky floors and tons of spices, teas and lawn & garden items. I also recommend brunch at Enzo Wine Bar on the south size of the Market. It has a great patio, friendly service and probably the best egg's benedict I have ever eaten!

Shawn C.

Yelp
City markets farmers market was a great experience compared to other farmers markets I've gone too. Great variety of fruits and vegetables and good variety of goods and music. The farmers market is surrounded by city markets bustling restaurants from Brazil food to gelato! Farmers market is also great for food stamp users and have the double up program! Lots to see and check out!
google avatar

Pearl B.

Yelp
Great place to stop by while in the area, enjoyed the variety of food , drinks and items to purchase from vendors . Freindly vendors , clean and sanitizing in dining areas between customers. Overall fun place to enjoy and support local businesses. I look forward to coming back when in the area again .
google avatar

Darcy B.

Yelp
I would love to return to this every weekend if I could but my husband would not be happy with the 3 hour trip one way every weekend lol.. The open spices and all the open fruit and veggie tables, I love it.
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
This place reminded me of Eastern Market in Detroit, but a lot better. I like how the farmers market is enclosed and center of the block, whereas the other shops and eateries are surrounds it. I actually came back the next day to walk around again. if I lived in KC, this place would be on my list of places to visit every weekend. Why weekend? the parking is free on the weekend :)
google avatar

Anna W.

Yelp
I don't know fully what I was expecting from this market, but I didn't think it lived up to the hype as much as I thought it would. While there were several dining options, I do wish that there were more shopping options. It was super hot outside, but the saving grace was that there were plenty of shaded areas and some indoor spots with air conditioning.
google avatar

Shahd E.

Yelp
Every time I visit KC, I always make time for City Market! If I lived here, I would probably visit this market weekly. I love this area so much. They have coffee shops, Mediterranean food, Indian food, bakeries, tea shops, cute small shops and just so much more! They also have farmer markets with so many fresh produce and spices. This is a must visit if you're in the city!
google avatar

Angie Y.

Yelp
If you are a tourist passing through Missouri and are looking for things to do - you're more than likely to stumble across city market as a must go destination. However - if you are not going to be stopping in on a weekend..DON'T BOTHER. NOTHING IS OPEN!!! Most of the clothing shops, bustling outdoor local farmers, vendors, restaurants all closed! We were disappointed. There were only about two fruit stands open and one candy shop. We did take a 5 minute stroll down the block to the Antique store which I think is worth the visit but the market itself was disappointing. I can't speak for what it's like during the weekend but wasn't worth driving out of my way to check out this market - left empty handed and FREEZING!
google avatar

Travis H.

Yelp
Very nice relaxed atmosphere! Great place for fresh produce, crafts and much more! Definitely a place to enjoy!
google avatar

Tong Y.

Yelp
Went to the farmers market on Sunday. The produce was really cheap if you get the $1 bowls. They're generally really eager to help in terms of the service. It was a nice place to walk around with a date too. It's lined up in three rows and a straight strip by minskys
google avatar

Fox E.

Yelp
If it sucked it'd be the Sh**ty Market. But it doesn't so it's not. The River Market AKA City Market is a really cool place to wander around. There are so many stalls, and it's nothing like the ones in the Northeast (Cleveland, Philly, Columbus, and so on), in the sense that this one is more like a real Market. Although it has plenty of artisanal hipster things and stuff, it just has the feel of a more European market. More authentic, perhaps. I absolutely love that there is a huge amount of free parking. Who does that anymore? Great job Kansas City. Bravo. If only the coasts could take a leaf out of their proverbial Rib Dinner.
google avatar

Jason G.

Yelp
When I think of a long time staple in downtown KC I always think of the Farmers' Market. When I have guests visiting from out of town I take them here. I love their fresh produce. But what always gets me is the eclectic background of the vendors and shoppers. It's so cool to see so many cultures in one place on a Saturday morning. I love supporting this business and hope you will too.
google avatar

Rod D.

Yelp
We were lucky enough to visit on a weekend where they had farmers market going on. It was your typical farmers market where they had your local vendors where selling their typical fruits and veggies. One thing that stood out that was different though from this market vs. others was their vending of various spices. I have never experienced any other market that sold as many spices as this market. They also sold many flower bouquets with the sunflower as the main element of the bouquet. There were also a good ethnic selection of restaurants ranging from Chinese, Mediterranean, Italian, Cajun and the like. In terms of transportation, you can either take the free KC street car from the downtown area to the market or drive. If you decide to drive, there are a ton of parking lots available to park for free. One last thing is if you visit City Market, make it a point to walk about 1.5 blocks west to the Missouri River. If you go down Main St., there is a pathway to the bridge of Kansas. It has an observatory to view the river and the two main Bridges in KC that go over the river.
google avatar

Josh N.

Yelp
My wife and I were visiting from out of town and really impressed with the size of the farmers market and the vast offerings. Very cool to see its open year round. It's in a neat area and worth stopping in to mix it up with the local produce.
google avatar

Callie B.

Yelp
Very cool spot it seems a bit overrated there's usually large crowds but perfect for gift shopping or an out of towner activity
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
Marvelous cross-section of Middle America! You'll find everything from honey to Cornish pasties to fresh eggplants, and almost all will be at exceptionally reasonable prices. I've been going for YEARS now, and can't imagine downtown Kansas City without City Market. You'll find permanent "fixtures" here, yes, but you'll also find some vendors who only come on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Fruits, vegetables, meats, teas, jams, jellies, pastries, and more -- everything you need in a vast and colorful marketplace. Keep your dollars local, Kansas City!
google avatar

Cecilia R.

Yelp
I love the River Market area, and City Market is a big reason for this! There are so many different restaurants and shops (even a steamboat museum) that you can always try something new when you're there. Not to mention, it's also a great place for families. My favorite time to visit is during the weekends in the spring and summer months when they have an out door farmer's market. There is also an antique market on Sundays which in my personal experience has always led to some interesting finds. Of the permanent businesses, I especially love the Dragonfly Zone and KC Soda Co. Both offer an amazing selection of drinks to sip on as you walk around the whole market. The only negative thing about it is how dead it is in the winter. With its location, it could have a holiday market or at least some holiday decorations to lighten it up.
google avatar

Joy P.

Yelp
Hadn't been to the market for years, so was excited it was open this rainy Sunday morning. All of the vegetables looked so good; we went into a Mediterranean shop which brought back great memories of the Istanbul spice market. Many bulk items and a large variety of canned goods like grape leaves and such. The frying sausage at the Italian shop was tantalizing and I love browsing the shelves of olive oil, vinegar, tomatoes and other goodies. The area appeared to have less vendors than I remember, and signs were very visible for shopping direction and masking rules. If I lived here it would be a great place to get my fresh veggies.
google avatar

Mandi S.

Yelp
Anything you could possibly have a craving for, there is a very high chance you can get it here. Anywhere from Greek, Indian, Italian, Californian, and so many in between. There are fresh veggies for groceries shopping, fresh flowers in bouquets and bundles. Excellent prices. There are often other events going on as well, anything from a flea market, car shows, and so much more. If you have a group that can't decide, you can please everyone here, and meet in an common area to eat.
google avatar

Katie H.

Yelp
This place is awesome! But I'll warn you that it can get VERY crowded. I would recommend a stroller (it was certainly hard to get around with my son). There is lots of fresh produce, local honey, local baked goods. There are also cute shops. I particularly enjoyed one that had lots of cute mugs, plates and bowls!
google avatar

Juan C.

Yelp
Cool place. It's mostly food vendors at great prices. It's a must in the area, go with a friend or partner.
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
The KC City Market is an awesome open-air marketplace filled with fresh groceries, spices, little cafes, and other local eateries. It's open year round, but the City Market comes alive the most during summer weekends. Local vendors and farmers will set up food stalls to showcase their fresh and colorful wares. Regardless of the season, you can always stroll the outer ring of the market to find many indoor shops offering beignets, gyros, Italian foods, and more. Above all, simply enjoy the experience of seeing the city come together in this local melting pot of people and cultures. We had a delightful time visiting, and we'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Adam S.

Yelp
The City Market is the biggest market in town, a worthy destination with cool views of the city, and if you're savvy, some great produce and deals. I mention being savvy because a lot of the perimeter produce is the kind of stuff you'd find at a discount grocery store and not straight from the farm. In the middle of the market on the weekends you'll find the local stuff, including flowers and meat from nearby farms. The biggest knock is going to be obvious if you go here: Parking. It can be extremely tough to find a spot nearby, so if you're down for a walk, I suggest parking a little ways away and trekking it. You could also take the street car starting from somewhere south on Main St. I'll admit my loyalties lie with the Downtown Overland Park farmers' market as I now know vendors there and have a method to any madness that goes on, but I do recommend the City Market if you're looking for a fun weekend destination. The surrounding shops and restaurants, as well as proximity to downtown and the northland make it a good spot to spend half a day.

Yelp
Fun place to go on a Saturday. Many different cuisines to explore with an amazing Italian deli ( fabulous sandwiches & gelato) , a Mexican burrito place, a New Orleans crepe and beignets to kc bbq. The fresh locally grown produce is very reasonable and there are many other venders from baked good to wine tasting. Don't forget to stop by the spice guy and buy a scoop or two!
google avatar

Melinda O.

Yelp
Best homegrown tomatoes ever!! This is such a beautiful place to visit and shop and support the locals. Beautiful flowers, turkey legs, veggies, spices, soda shop, etc. I visited in August 2020 so I'm late posting but I recommend checking this market out if in town.
google avatar

Vic C.

Yelp
City Market is supposed to be one of the largest farmer's market in the midwest, where you will find not only produce but knick knacks, accessories, clothing, etc. There are also eateries (more than just barbecue) in City Market in case you need to grab a bite to eat. My husband, our little girl dog and I came by here on a Tuesday late morning, a little after 10 am. It was rather dead, but being that it was during the week day, I guess that shouldn't be surprising. Most of the farmer stands were empty and not all of the businesses were open when we visited. We ended up getting some beignets at Beignet, which was rather disappointing because they were rather doughy. I think City Market would be better to be visited during the weekends, and will look forward to visiting it one day when they are in their full force. By the way, there are public restrooms available for use at the City Market (not the most cleanest, but there is toilet paper, running water and soap).
