We recently did the Mixology101 class with City of Cocktail. The class takes place at their home, which is also a working mulberry farm. We were promised hot pizza -- and we could see the oven burning as we walked up through the orchard.
Kevin & Monica had clearly done lots of preparation for our group. There were what looked like 100 empty glasses of various styles lined up for cocktail making. Then on the big concrete island, we saw our names placed in front of one of the bartending stations, complete with 10-12 bottles of juices, alcohols, liqueurs, and lots of equipment.
Instruction began with each team making daiquiris and margaritas, so that we very quickly had drinks ready for sipping in front of us. Kevin gave tips as necessary, after showing us how to make each cocktail.
Pizza came in fresh, hot, and delicious. I'd recommend stepping outside to see the pizza oven in action, and ask them some of the stories about building it themselves.
The bulk of the night was still in front of us, and everybody got better and faster at using the shakers and strainers. We even learned how to cut some decorative garnishes, and how to get an icy sheen on a martini. The egg white drinks were particularly fun.
This was a unique way to spend the evening. We didn't have to worry about any prep or cleanup. They let us use their home as our own to hang out and enjoy the experience. Thank you, Monica and Kevin! We truly had an amazing time! This would be a great event to do again with my girlfriends or colleagues from work.
