Not keen on the computers for ordering and checkouts being right by the door, especially if there's a line, which there was tonight with a few people ahead of us.
I was so put off to find they don't offer any GF noodle options, just rice in the soup and no chicken at all, when most ramen places offer some of these options for us non pork eaters. I ended up getting the duck, though I don't eat or really liked duck much, it was the only option, unless I wanted to go vegan. Started off with a cucumber salad and my husband ordered a spicy miso ramen.
They charge extra for a side of chili oil for their bland duck soup, which it needed more of than the tonkashi spice. They gave us more but scolded and reminded us that it's a side and charged option on the menu.
The other irritating thing is they only have several 2-top tables and a group of tables up by the window for a group but not enough tables. The 4 of us had to sit at the counter and around a corner so we could somewhat see and talk to each other. This place is much more suited for solo visitors. The layout here is not conducive for any groups greater than 1 or 2 folks.
The thin noodles were okay, not chewy, not special and so not interesting. The marinaded egg yolk is not cooked enough for me but that's the only way they make it. Gave it to my hubby.
Watched this staff guy pushing the beef fat through a strainer near the counter where we were seated, it was repulsive to watch and so not appetizing at all.
We had the cucumber salad, wasn't much cucumber, mostly green onions. I do like the crunchy garlic on the top at least. For $7, it should have been filled more than the 1/3 of the side plate from my view, rather stingy here. Nickel and dime you for everything too.
The duck ramen came out and the duck leg was breaded, was that mentioned on the menu? Guess I was supposed to know that from the picture then.
We could get the same amount of food, with 2 side dishes, 2 ramens and 2 drinks for $14 less than this place at the Kzn on Washington. Plus, I feel the food quality and broths are world's better at the other place and so much faster than here. This place still has much more growth to go to catch up to the likes of Washington's fierce competitor.
For what you get here it was very disappointing and fell flat for me. The whole experience was rather bothersome and somewhat frustrating. The food is expensive for what you get. The options are abysmal and the seating is atrocious.
$49.29 for this food, seems crazy.
The owner had someone write me personally to tell me I have not taste and don't know a thing about ramen. Seriously, that's so childish and low.
