City Sandwich

Updated: I used to really love this place, but the quality has gone down. The bread isn't as good. They use less of the expensive ingredients (meat, cheese) and more filler now. The sandwiches are noticeably smaller than they used to be, and the price is still as high as it was. The price made sense back when these were the best sandwiches in hell's kitchen, but not anymore. I really hope they turn this around and go back to the quality they once had. My original review: I wish I could rate this place more than five stars. I've gotten sandwich after sandwich here and every time it's amazing. Which part is the best? The fresh bread, soft but crusty? The cheese, with just the right tang and a smooth mouthfeel in delicately balanced proportion? The meat, cooked just past rare but enough to be fleshy and thoroughly cooked? Or is it the outstanding service from staff who seem to genuinely enjoy their jobs? Maybe the magic lies in the combination of it all. Whatever it is, city sandwich is the best sandwich joint in Hell's Kitchen.

I've loved City Sandwich since it opened. Sandwiches are great, made with delicious combinations of high-quality ingredients. The salads are also delish. The owner and staff are always so sweet - which makes me wonder why the one reviewer had such horrible, implausible things to say about the hygiene of the place and the demeanor of the owner??!! I bring all my friends and work colleagues there - and then they always want to go back. I think that says a lot.

I got the LGBT per the request of the person working and it was amazing! The bread was fresh with a crunchy crust and soft filling. The sandwich was incredibly flavorful. Additionally, the employees are so friendly and energetic! I highly recommend trying this place out! This is my favourite sandwich place in the city!

I LOVE City Sandwich!!! I am a performer on Broadway and this place keeps me and my fellow cast mates going 8 shows a week. I come here not only for the AMAZING food, but the staff provides some of the best customer service in the city. The owner is always checking in to make sure everything tastes great and has such a lovely interaction with his most wonderful staff. You want a clean, tasty, cozy and enjoyable sandwich experience? Run don't walk to City Sandwich!!!

City sandwich is my favourite sandwich place in NYC. I find the quality of their bake (breads) to be unlike any I have come across in the city. I'm a frequent customer and have been since the last 2 years. Their staff are very friendly and I've spoken to the owner a couple of times. I get the strong impression of a family-run establishment. @Mickey - can't agree with that comment at all. Maybe you've posted your comment against the wrong business?

Absolutely phenomenal sandwich. I came here today as I had gotten a recommendation from a friend to try this place. I am so happy I took his advice, as this was one of the most satisfying sandwiches I've ever had. I ordered their newest sandwich, the pork and chicken meatball sub and enjoyed every bite. The owner made the experience even better, as he was very nice and made sure everything was great. The bread of a sandwich can make or break it, and it definitely made it. I recommend this place to anyone. Definitely better then a deli or Subway for sure. YOU NEED IT! Great prices too!

Amazing sandwich! The daily special with chicken, avocado, and grilled onions was fresh and absolutely delicious. The bread is freshly baked and has a perfect crunchy-outside/soft-inside balance. A couple menu items are a little pricey but it is almost certainly worth it.

I googled reviews and walked a 1/2 mile to this gem for a breakfast sandwich. Natalie, who was stellar picked the "Jeff" sandwich for me and it was wonderful. The owner treated me like family and let me try his wonderful pastry! Phenomenal! Ingredients are fresh and the bread is beyond perfect, all at a reasonable price.
