The teaching at this university is generally fine, but the administrative side is very poor. Even when students request basic things such as deadline extensions for assignments or access to their grades, delays or no response at all are common. Emails often go unanswered, and following up rarely makes a difference.
Administrative processes are unclear and inefficient. It is often not clear how long things will take or who is responsible, and it can be difficult to reach the administration by phone. This becomes particularly stressful when dealing with time-sensitive matters.
At first, I thought this might be normal for universities. However, students at Russell Group universities often report a very different experience, with much better support and quick responses to emails when they need help. This makes a real difference after enrolment. While communication tends to be quick during the admissions process, support appears to drop once fees have been paid. Whether this is due to understaffing or other internal issues is hard to say.
Although these problems are not always mentioned in online reviews, many of my classmates have had similar experiences. Over time, this is likely to affect the university’s reputation.
For students who need to manage their schedules carefully for work or further study after returning home, or who simply want to focus on their studies without unnecessary stress, this university may not be the right choice.
