City Tavern

City Tavern has a great vibe that makes it an easy spot to settle into. I ordered the grilled chicken wrap and it came out surprisingly good, fresh, and exactly what I wanted. Service was friendly and fast which is always a win. The only miss was the fries. Zero seasoning. Not even a pity sprinkle. Tried to add pepper and salt to save them and it helped a little but they should come pre seasoned. That’s the only reason this isn’t a full five. Still a solid place and I’d definitely come back.

Stopped in the City Tavern one evening and sat at the bar. I ordered a few shots and the French kiss me cocktail and it was delicious. The sauced wings (buffalo) were ok, but the plain wings was tasteless. I ordered the corn beef rueben and expected it to be sliced on the sandwich but instead it was more like pot roast consistency. So it kind of through me off. Overall the bar had good atmosphere and I would go again, but would order something different to eat.

Best staff and atmosphere ever! We went on a dead night and the bartenders kept us entertained all night! The french 76 kiss me is SO GOOD! Genuinely such a good energy and place to be!

Layne was a great bartender, he told us about the Monday specials - $4.50 Christmas Ale on tap is unbeatable. The food here is incredible, came with friends, ordered the sampler which was perfect to split amongst three people. I ordered the reuben which was phenomenal, my friends got the grilled cheese and the buffalo chicken flat bread which were immaculate. The vibes here are perfect, great music, spacious, sports on TV’s, and amazing/quick service. New favorite spot in Columbus.

City Tavern, you've got a new fan! Had the Turkey Rachel and it was absolutely delicious! The flavors were rich and savory, and the portion was perfect. Great service too, Julie was awesome! If you're looking for a spot with tasty American classics, look no further. The Turkey Rachel is a must-try!

Whenever I go to City, I know that I'll be taken care of. I especially appreciate Bella. She brings the energy that I want when I'm going out. She always greets my friends and I with a smile, and our drinks are consistently perfect. She makes great recs and works hard!

Don't let the outside scare you away! From the outside it seems like a dingy bar in a warehouse, but inside is much cuter! The food and service were excellent. They didn't have a lot on tap, but they had a lot of can selections. It seemed like they had many daily specials and their menu was vast. I would definitely go back if I am in the area!

I've driven by this place for years always curious but never stopped. I'm glad I did! Food was great. Service was very speedy. I love the ambiance inside. If I lived closer this would be my watering hole!

City Tavern is a cool little sports pub. The inside is somewhat small, but it has a neat atmosphere. There are plenty of TV's. The staff was friendly and responsive. Drink prices are incredibly reasonable, and they have a full menu with some healthier options as well (wraps, salads). I wasn't too hungry when I went with some friends to watch a game, but did munch on some chicken fingers and fries. They weren't that great and appeared to have skin on them underneath the breading. But given the large menu I would definitely give the kitchen another shot. There is also a small parking lot just south of the building which was pretty convenient.

The food here is actually top notch. The best thing we got was the Mac and cheese with buffalo chicken, but everything was good! The wedge was packed with flavor, the fries were great, we had mozzarella sticks that were tasty. My friends got a quesadilla and the chicken sandwich and everything was good. It's got a very hole in the wall vibe inside, but it's clean. Our waitress was nice and helpful, we did have to ask often for things like a knife and more water that probably should have been standard. But other than that it was a good stop for when you are hungry!

We went to this location recently for an alumni event to watch a basketball game. I read many reviews about what to expect. It is a bar-type restaurant, but kids are allowed. We did call to ask. Keep in mind that they only have high-top tables. They do accept reservations, and that was great because it was packed. I ordered off their whiskey and food menu. The whiskey was great, and I was offered a second when finished. I passed at $15 for a glass. I do really appreciate that the prices are on the drink menu. Many restaurants have you guessing. We ordered the Buffalo chicken dip and Bacon cheeseburger French fries. Pro tip, the fries are a huge portion. It was enough for my husband and I to share as our main meal. They were very good with a ton of fresh toppings and a decent amount of ground beef and bacon. The Buffalo Chicken Dip was excellent as well, with a hardy amount of chicken. The only flaw would be that we didn't receive many chips, so when we ordered more chips, there's a $4 charge. Service was decent, but a few hiccups. They were slammed, and my husband had a drink spilled on him. When he asked for a rag to clean his chair, someone told him they were too busy. Fortunately, another waitress nearby offered him a rag when she heard. Overall, we were happy.

I have known the "Wonder Bread" factory building on 4th St and Lincoln Avenue for many years. I always drove past on my way to somewhere else. But last year, I met some friends at City Tavern for lunch and to talk about a possible business venture. It is located in that building. The food was good, the service fast and friendly and the beer was cold! I had an Impossible burger a side salad and a bud lite. The salad and the burger were pretty good, and I seemed to get my next beer via brain wave since it arrived right after I finished the first. We have come back almost every week. Once I got wings (quite good, lots of choices of flavors) and once a regular burger. Otherwise always the Impossible Burger. Quality, service and beer temperature always consistent! Parking is ample and across the street. It gets pretty busy at lunch and I'm guessing it's a favorite with local business people. Finally - they play lots of music I love. Loud but not too loud from the past, Boomer and buster rock. I'll keep coming back.

Great atmosphere and value. Love the old bread factory vibe and the nods to it in the menu. Went with a large group and really appreciated the varied menu options as we had some rather picky eaters. Also they throw a heck of a Derby Party. This Kentuckian approves.

Have been a fan of this place for years but our last two visits have been disappointing. Food quality has declined substantially. Food has been overcooked and inconsistent. Will wait to see better reviews before we come back.

Staying in town for a conference and my Airbnb is 1 block away. I stopped in at 9:30 pm on a Monday to grab food to go and it was lovely. The bar was not crowded, but there were multiple games on, the bartender was nice, and they were playing great 90s music! I ordered a burger and tots to go and got a glass of wine while I waited. The pour was generous and the ambiance was chill. The bar is stocked, too. Got back to my place and the burger was great and the tots were crispy. Was excited to see many packets of condiments included with my order. Until I realized the ketchup was Red Gold - not cool for a Pittsburgh gal like me . But seriously, try this place out!

"Comfort food" burgers and sandwiches and delicious shareables. Located on first floor of old wonder bread building. Bar seating and high top tables available. Parking lot located to the left looking at the building and plenty of street parking available. Extensive beverage and bourbon lists. Service was quick and friendly!

Good food good drinks good service Rachel was great. Would definitely be back. Had the firebird chicken sandwich. It was spicy but had good taste. My girl had the Rachel on wonder bread and enjoyed that. The fries were tasty

Food delivered. Food was "ok". Very basic and nothing stood out. Was not a bad experience but was just "meh". I asked for no feta in the side salad but it came with feta anyway.

Best Friez Best Fries in Columbus and the French Dip was amazing and delicious!!! Highly Recommended!!!

Food is good but a bit overpriced. On top of that, they sneakily added a $1.00 "transaction fee" on top of the check.

I've driven past so many times. Finally made a point of meeting the boys. Easy parking. If you are handicapped please note you need to climb maybe half a flight of steps. IMO they rely on too many high tops. Also perhaps a bit too much blond wood for what I would consider a tavern. In my Mind's eye I think dark and heavy tones. Server was over worked. They could have used another person. Drinks were fine and prices were typical. Food was ok and slow getting to the table. There are so many options in Short North I'm not saying I will be back and I'm not avoiding it.

Walked in and sat at the bar.. the bartender greeted us by saying "just so you know...that is one of our regulars seats and he will be coming in a little bit..so you shouldn't sit in his seat" Got up and walked out. No thank you. Will no be returning. This is not how you welcome a customer.

I am giving a 4 out of 5 only because this Tavern only has high top tables. No regular tables for us "short " people to sit at. Went with friends for dinner on Monday and was presently surprised they have a $6 hamburger special on Monday. Although I didn't order it a couple of friends did and they enjoyed the burger. I ordered the grilled cheese with bacon and tomatoes with a cut of tomato bisque. The sandwich was delicious and perfect for dipping into my soup! The bisque was flavorful and served temperature hot!! Service was excellent!

I've attended this bar for a number of years and have continued to come back for game days. There are enough TVs to play every NFL game that is on. The 670 burger, French dip sandwich, and French fries are all worthy of an order. Overall, this bar is the Derek Carr of Short North. It isn't as flashy as some of the bigger names in town, but it absolutely gets the job done and deserves more respect.

I was at City Tavern last night with some friends from out of town. I have never met a more unprofessional pair of bar tenders. One was Amber (I think?) And the other I didn't get the name of, but we will call Karen To start, non attentive would be kind. I stood for 15 minutes waiting for service at a bar that was half seated. Only after yelling to get their attention was I able to get a drink. Amber went and sang karaoke while Karen wasn't behind the bar, effectively leaving it unmanned. My buddy got the wrong beer twice, our car bombs were under poured, and they were more concerned with having a good time instead of doing their job. When we were leaving, my friend left a tip of 6.66 on her 32 dollar bill, for which Karen became so offended, she pushed one of the girls with us, tried to fight the two, and then threatened to call the police for "assault" against my friend who pushed her back in defense. This was in full view of the cameras mind you. By far the worst experience I've had with bar tenders in a long time. We all left a tip, and yet that wasn't good enough for Karen. Do not go here, avoid it.

I've been to this place twice. It has its own parking lot in the middle of Italian Village, near downtown which is a big plus. The ambience is good, with multiple TV screens giving it a sports restro-bar kind of vibe. The food is good and the service is friendly. We had good servers on both occasions, but in our second visit, the service could have been better. I do understand that sometimes staff shortage causes servers to be overwhelmed and not be able to provide the best service. So I still believe that this place is a very good place to eat. Overall, I would definitely go back to this place for dinner with friends.

City Tavern is better than what came before it. It is still kind of new. The building itself is pretty old. It's located a few blocks from a few of my favorite 4th Street bars. The location sucks but it's easy to get to. I thought this place would be more of a bar. Instead, food here is actually really good. They have good vegetarian options. Being a bar, they have a lot of beers on tap and have a happy hour. Cocktails made from the well are pretty good priced. At happy hour cocktails are about $3 for well drinks. The food was even better, so you should get something. I had the Impossible Burger. It's $14, which is kind of high but this is the best vegan burger there is. It looks just like ground beef. There's even varying pink and red colors so it looks like the real thing. It comes with a side item. This can be cole slaw, fries, or a salad. It sucks walking to but it's easy to find. It's on 4th just off the 670 ramp. There's usually some street parking spots.

We stopped in before a concert one evening. We got an appetizer and a couple of beers. Julie the bartender was amazing. She was fun and kept our beers coming till we were ready to go. I would recommend trying this bar.

Went out for my fiancé's birthday with a couple of his friends and was pleasantly surprised by the place! Great food, good vibes and the place was clean and new. Lots of beer and drink selection. Would be a good place to go to watch a game. Try the pulled pork sandwich... it was great!

Great spot that truly puts the "cray" in the Shorty North. I can't believe what some of the bartenders cook up here. They even know how to make a Hugo Spritz. Who does that?!?!? Dip your fries in it and you got the perfect dinner.

With he flop of Cray/Factory on Fourth, City Tavern now has the big job of getting their name out, since this location has had a troublesome pass when it comes to sticking a landing. The location is prime - plenty of FREE PARKING (they have a side lot, and then of course the free street parking). I'm somewhat bummed this new establishment painted over the graffiti art on the walls (left over from Cray's stint). The olive green walls and wood go ok. What I would pick? Maybe not exactly, but nothing to complain about at all. Anywho, my visit was very pleasant. Friendly staff. Great layout. Good food. There were only four or five other patrons there when I arrived all sitting at the bar, so I didn't have to wait and pulled up a chair. Several TVs with different sports channels showing. No volume, which I personally love (better to converse while glancing back to check the score!). An solid eclectic mix of current indie songs on, and music-volume was perfect - good ones to hum along with. The food and service were both excellent. Brittney, bartender who waited on me, was very pleasant! Personable. Never rushed. Easy to chat with. The menu is diverse, yet completely manageable. Spotting Valerie B's pics, I already had my mind made for what I wanted to try: City Shroom dip, Quinoa & Kale salad, and could not pass up their PB&J dessert. Shroom dip was buttery goodness. The chunks of sausage were big and tasty. The bread was actually very good, too. I was afraid it might be a bit hard/crisp, but was wrong. Easy to chomp on. The salad was light. Of course, healthy as all get out. The lemon vinaigrette was very lite. Not overwhelming. I could taste all the components from the broccoli to the kale. This dish might be a tad overpriced, but time (and customer input) will tell. The dessert summed up my afternoon to a T. Dish came out warm, hot of the griddle. Have I mentioned I love peanut butter. Yeah, well, happy freaking Friday, Gwen! I asked if the chef would mine drizzling some Nutella on top, and whatda ya know, shabaam! Afternoon delight!

Debilitating service. Service was friendly. No problems there. But she was truly incompetent. We would order simple, straightforward things and they would 1) be completely forgotten, 2) messed up or 3) have to be repeated multiple times. Usually I don't think service at a bar matters that much, but this time it did. The terrible service made it impossible to get CANNED beer on any sort of decent schedule. Sometimes it would take 10+ minutes to get a can of beer and the bar wasn't packed (and the place is small). It's fine to go here, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go here.

smaller divey type of bar with basic bar food and basic bartenders. their food is very very underwhelming, it's exactly what you would expect when you walk into the place. bartenders are nice and they have a good drink selection. wish their food tasted as good as their menu looked! would not come again, but it's great to try! perfect for watching sports if you're wanting to stay out of the downtown/short north area and avoid crowds

If you want cold burgers, bland hummus and depressing veggies come visit City Tavern. Not worth it even if the food was free. 1 star = 0 stars for me

So I don't normally do this but, wow. City Tavern had a special menu in a signage format on the wall with the City burger being $6 and draft beer for $4 a piece. Excited about the amazing price I ordered 2 City Burgers and 2 draft beers. I'm not a math genius but that doesn't equal $45.22. I even asked the brunette female waitress if she could adjust the price due to the giant sign on the wall that clearly says $6 burgers and $4 draft beers. I pointed out to her that my burgers were both $12.50 on my receipt. She stated that's how much they were. I pointed at the large sign in bright big letters that stated the burgers were to cost $6 and the draft beers $4. The waitress looked away and said, "yeah, umm I'm sorry." And proceeded to walk away. I would have been less mad if she maybe explained that they forgot to take it down and proceeded over to clean the price board so they wouldn't trick anyone else into paying double for what they thought they were gonna have to pay. Nope, she evaded our attention by running off to the kitchen. What should have been a $20 bill was somehow $45. This may have just been a bad employee. The food was good. Just strange and unethical the way the situation was handled. * to be clear, there was no where on the signage where it said any particular time frame or that it was for happy hour only. It was clearly a daily special menu. Disappointed to say the least. I'm on the verge of never returning. -disappointed customer

Bartender was bad mannered when asking if kitchen was open. Refused valid Arizona drivers license for beer; promptly left.

We stumbled across this fun little place after dropping the kiddo off at the Ohio Theater to see Hamilton. We had 3 hours to kill and were actually headed to one of our tried and true favorites for brunch, but this little gem caught our eye. I have fond memories of the smells from the Wonder Bread Bakery, and was so excited that they made this into a brunch/lunch bar! In fact, the bar is in the same room where they would prepare the yeast. It's now a decent sized bar/restaurant with several tables and full bar. There are two walls of windows and it's rustic in decor. They seem to have a decent liquor selection and a good craft beer selection on tap, with some additional choices in canned. I do recommend their Bloody Mary. The brunch menu is simple, but has great options. I opted for the Wonder Bread breakfast sandwich, of course. My husband got the a avocado toast. Food and drink prices are very reasonable. The atmosphere is friendly and we had some great conversation with fellow patrons sitting next to us. They played 80's alternative music which we really enjoyed--Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, Peter Gabriel, etc. We will definitely come for another visit!

We've been to City Tavern several times and the food is always awesome. They've got some of the best mozzarella sticks in Columbus. They're bacon burgers are awesome as are the rueben and pulled pork sandwiches. And make sure you get the fresh cut fries and buffalo drumsticks while you're there. There's also a nice selection of draft beers. Service can be a little slow/uneven but not outrageously so.

Amazing place to go eat!! They have great food and drink options for all tastebuds. I'm newly a vegetarian and had the impossible burger which is a plant based burger my friends could barely taste the difference between this and the real one. Nice server as well food came out in a timely manner UPDATE: only downgrading my review from 5 to 4 stars because I recently ordered pick up there and got the impossible burger again and it was burnt. A little disappointed probably would of sent it back if I dined in. Of course theses happen sometimes but made me reassess the quality.

Julie is maybe the greatest server I've ever met in my entire life. I've done in some of the finest restaurants in the United States and yet I've never met a person with such professionalism and grandeur. I would highly recommend this person who brings extremely decorous dedication!!

Torn between a 4 and a 5. Service was a bit lacking a couple times but food was delicious. My daughter and I both got the Rueben. So delicious! I got the fries which were just meh. Daughters onion chips were tasty. Hubby got burger and said it was good. Daughter's boyfriend got the pulled pork with fried egg-bit messy but he seemed to enjoy it.

We had a great dinner here during restaurant week. I ordered the tomato bisque, butternut & cranberry salad, and cherry pie with ice cream. My husband got wings, the french dip, and a chocolate chip cookie. We both really enjoyed every item we ordered. The tomato bisque was salty and creamy with a strong tomato flavor. The salad was my favorite part of the meal - a huge plate of greens with pepitas, goat cheese, butternut squash, dried cranberries, and vinaigrette. I will definitely order the salad again. The pie was just ok - nothing special but it tasted fine. I sampled my husbands french dip and immediately wanted to eat the other half of his sandwich. I'm impressed with the menu at City Tavern and loved the space inside. I'll definitely be back soon to try some other menu items that looked tasty.

My co-workers and I have been coming here for a couple years and that will definitely CONTINUE!!! Great atmosphere, awesome service, and the drinks are full! Julie is one of the most wonderful servers you will ever meet! Friendly, attentive, and always aware of what you need.

Wow. I didn't even know this place was here! Located in the old Wonderbread Bakery is this hidden gem. Tuesday evening light crowd for early dinner. The service was impeccable. Attentive and friendly. Large selection of brews from around the state of Ohio. The food is.... ohmygosh very yummy! Because I was hungry, I ordered a "side" of loaded fries as an appetizer. The "side" portion was huge. I imagine the larger basket size would feed a small army! The fries are smothered in what I'd best describe as what one would find in a McDonalds Big Mac. Best loaded fries I've ever had. My cheeseburger was stupendous. Big, meaty, and tons of fresh crisp toppings. This place has earned my repeat business!

This is a local place I'm not sure is too well known to people not familiar with the downtown area. It's in the old Wonder Bread building on 4th Street. I stumbled on it and I told everyone to get in the car and off we went. Destination unknown to them. So I do have 2 kids (10 &13) and this place was great for them too. We went to lunch and I had the Reuben and it was really pretty good. Burgers and the grilled cheese and tomato soup was also ordered. Everything was really good. I will definitely go back and eat again!

Excellent lunch! I had the California wrap with a side of tomato/cucumber/onion/feta salad. Loved them both. The wrap was chock full of bacon, chicken, tomatoes, lettuce, onion and just the right amount of cheese. It was so flavorful and juicy I didn't bother with the ranch dip. And the wheat wrap was thin and fresh - definitely not day-old. The salad was in a light vinaigrette and also very flavorful. My husband had the French dip and fries. He really liked his too.

Hey, look, it's the third restaurant here in the past three years, and it hasn't folded yet! Granted, the first two before it (Cray and it's bastard son, Factory on 4th) were owned by the same person that drove them into the ground, City Tavern is already leagues ahead in that regard. This spot is run by the same folks that own Park Street Tavern and Ledo's, and whether you like those spots or not, they've managed to become mainstays in the Columbus bar scene. One thing about this spot that will never be great is its location. It's in an awkward spot to get to by car being right at the 670 off ramp, and nowhere really close to any other businesses. However, there's now a parking lot right next to it that's never full, so don't be afraid to drive over there. The inside hasn't changed all that much minus them taking out the weird swing set looking decor that Factory on 4th had. The service was friendly and attentive, but we were the only people in there on a Sunday at lunch, so I'd hope so. One of the owner/cook/managers was there and was really cool and asked us to try some of the different dressings she had been working on for the wings. She seemed to really care about how the customers felt, so I can already tell they'll do better than the previous owner. As far as the food, everyone in my group had wings, so I don't have a very diverse knowledge of the menu. I tried the Original City sauce, which is kind of like a BBQ and buffalo mixture, and the Cajun dry rub, and they were both very tasty. The ranch that came with it was a little flavorless though, so they could definitely work on that. The wings themselves were tender on the inside and nice and crunchy on the outside, but they are a little pricey at $13 for 10. I didn't see if they had a wing night, but if they do wing deals, I'd hop all over it. We also tried the City Shrooms, and they were deliciously creamy with great earthy mushroom flavor that you can spread over the toasted crostinis. They were great, but if you're just getting it for yourself, it'll fill you up if you plan on getting more food. I'd definitely come back again, especially with all the Ray Ray's BBQ on the menu, and the good looking burger pictures on here. It's your standard bar fare taken up a notch. I can see this definitely being more of a neighborhood spot, and I hope they do well enough that they're still around when Jeffrey Park blows up across the street. It's a bit hidden for passersby and maybe a bit out of the way for many people, but I'd say it's definitely worth giving it a go.

3 1/2. The Reuben was outstanding. And I loved the choice of sides. I had the side salad and it was very good. Fresh veggies. The French dip was disappointing. I felt like the meat was tough, very chewy. Great beer selection great service great atmosphere and easy parking. Will definitely try it again just hopefully the food is a little bit better next time.

Great choice for dinner. Was trying to decide between 4 and 5 stars -- would really give it 4.5 if that existed, but went with 5 because some of the food options are just that good. Usually order for delivery through UberEats but occasionally go in for trivia night too and always pleased by the parking lot next to the tavern which makes parking a nonissue. Delivery has always been prompt and the food still warm. Recommendations: the grilled cheese with tomato bisque *cue mouth watering*, the pulled pork sandwich (a little spicy if you're spice-intolerant like me, but so worth it!), and the mozzarella sticks. Regarding trivia night, their trivia is a little strange, hard to explain except maybe to say it's a little easy? But still a pleasant trivia night atmosphere.
