Is Peru Safe to Visit? (Updated 2025)

"I include Civa on my list of reputable bus companies to use in Peru since choosing these operators generally reduces the risk of reckless driving and vehicle problems compared with the cheapest options." - Matthew Kepnes

⛔️!!!!!!!!. Don’t buy a ticket!!!!They sell tickets that cannot be used for various reasons. There are no refunds for tickets purchased. As a foreign tourist they lied and cheated me. They knew the bus didn't leave and yet they sold a ticket. They charged money for all the seats but the bus didn't leave. cheats and frauds. be away.

We were told to get there 30 min before departure, and once there we were told the bus was 3 hours delayed. Finally our bus got the station 5 hours later. After that, getting on the bus our seats were taken by a couple, that were asked to move. First stop was after 14 hours, all of those without restroom or food stop. When we finally stopped after 14 hours, we saw the couple that were sitted in our seats come out of the lugagge compartment where they have been for 14hours!! This company is totally inhumane.

We had the 11.00am superciva to Nazca Seats were fine (160 degrees). No WiFi on board, all the time movies were played at the highest volume so not possible to sleep. The worst however, is that the bus stops only a few minutes (less than 4 km) before Nazca for a dinner stop of about 30 minutes, while there are no taxi's around to get to the city yourself. Probably no problem for people travelling further than Nazca, but very inconvenient of Nazca is your final destination. All for a few Soles commission.... Sad company!

For the love of god, avoid at all costs. We went with Civa twice. First time the bus broke down in the parking lot and then downgraded us to the Cheap economy option for a 20 hour bus ride. We paid for the exclucivo option. You can guess what happen the second time. The bus broke down for 8 hours on a notoriously dangerous road from Cusco to ica. The replacement bus arrived at 4am which was a downgrade to the economy bus again. Our bus was meant to then stop in ica which it missed and continued to Lima. We had to ask the driver to take us back which he refused. They kicked us out on the highway and had to get a taxi back. I raised this complaint in ica and then in the headquarters in Lima when we arrived there a week later. The staff acted extremely unprofessional throughout this experience. Once we made the official complaint we were assured they would come back to us with a resolution within 3 working days. Two months later I received a message from civa agreeing to pay back the funds for the bus. I replied with my details to transfer the funds and I haven’t heard from them since. This was now 6 months ago. I have emailed civa in excess of 20 times and never received a payment nor reply. In my 31 years I have never even come close to such a dreadful and pathetic company. If you want to break down and get treated like SH*T then go with Civa. If you actually want to get to somewhere in Peru without breaking down, go with Cruz del sur. Civa, I will await your reply. Should you actually read the reviews about your organisation that the public write then please look up the complaint no: 22890

Not the best bus terminal or easy to find. But by far the best value and clean buses with good service. I was very impressed by their lunch options.

They cancelled our bus and refuse to give us money refund. They told us we can use the money for the new road later. Unprofessional!

The place is pretty normal for Peru - crowd of people and the staff doesn't speak English. But tourists have to be careful, because the Civa bus station is located in La Victoria district, where foreigners have to watch for their wallets.

They said buses don't come here but we buses coming in and out, apparently there is another CIVA some where else? Good luck or go to a different bus company...
