Seattle Bars With Sustainable Cocktails | Eater

"Maitake mushrooms and heirloom carrots show off the commitment of this speakeasy’s farm- and forest-to-table sourcing on the food menu. The bar takes it a step further: Juiced produce finds second uses as peels, garnishes, and syrups, too. That innovation leads to equally innovative cocktails, like their Premier Bay Blast — a blend of raw local honey infused with fresh organic ginger, BOMBAY SAPPHIRE PREMIER CRU, blood orange puree, lemon juice, and a dehydrated blood orange to garnish."

Went here and the service was excellent. Walked in and loved the dark n moody vibe. You can hear conversations and not loud. Elijah the guy with the beard and bartender did amazing service. Ordered old fashion cocktails and it was great. Would come back!

We hosted a small gathering in the speakeasy section of Civility and Unrest. The service was good and the food was pretty good as well. Our bartender was great, we definitely did not have any complaints there. The vibes were vibing! Definitely recommend this spot for good food, drinks, and a nice place to have a conversation with friends or a partner.

High end cocktail bar, with very interesting cocktails choices, and good selection of wines. They have good snack choices. It's at the lower level in the W Bellevue hotel. Parking is available for the mall, or one can valet the car with the hotel.

Google
This is my go-to speakeasy spot in Bellevue, and the only one that exists to my knowledge. I have been taking my spouse and coworkers here for years. Not only the civility part of the bar but the unrest on the other side. It has a Seattle vibe to it for sure. Bellevue patrons are a tough crowd although and thrive on boring cocktails versus trying new experiences. The service charge is for workers to be paid fair wages versus relying on tips alone so I wouldn't say it's deceptive at all. Prices are in line with high end cocktails in the area.

We went on a Saturday afternoon / around 5ish and found a table for two very quickly. We ordered one drink each. Hot in Jalisco as I was in a mood for a spicy drink and other was for my friend Don’t fear the reaper which was recommended by the waiter. For the sides, it was Wagyu Steak Tartare again recommended by our waiter (uncooked, so be careful what you choose). Both the drinks and tartare were good. We were within the happy hour range but our waiter told happy hour was not on the weekends. Little disappointed with that. it did not say happy hour wasn’t applicable on weekends, otherwise service was good. The drink was good and so was the ambience. Since it wasn’t the peak hour, we did not see any crowd. The gratuity was 20% and was auto added to our bill. The waiter told the peak hour is at or after nine PM.

A bar up front, a speakeasy in the back. This place has an incredible atmosphere, access to a good kitchen, and amazing drinks. It may be on the expensive side, but good drinks made by experienced bartenders in a downtown area bar are worth it. I look forward to trying new drinks in the future!

Google
We were excited to check out this new "speakeasy" in Bellevue. Unfortunately, that was our first disappointment - this is just a nice hotel bar. If you're single in your late 20s, it might be a decent choice. We arrived at 8:55pm (for a 9pm reservation). It was not incredibly busy and yet it took 25 mins to get two drinks, then another 30 mins before anyone checked back. Servers were nice, but did not check back in. As a final annoyance, when the check came, the server basically pled with us to add a tip, even though a 20% service charge is already included. Why? The business retains 100% of the service charge (nothing for the servers or bartender). I don't mind service charges being included, but I do mind that the business artificially inflates the price without passing a portion to the people doing the work.

Our first time in. Drinks off the menu were great. Asked the bartender to make me something whiskey forward and it was awesome. Will definitely be coming back. I felt that the prices were spot on for what we got and the great service.

Yelp
Walking into the place there is a front bar. It's very bright and we walk to the back which is where we were seated and it was super lounge feeling, and very well decorated. We were seated at the bar and we were greeted by the bartender very quickly. They had very unique drinks, and he was very knowledgeable about what to order based on what we liked. They make all their syrups and juices from scratch and they don't use any artificial mixers. We were very impressed with the drinks that we got and would definitely come back here next time we're in the Seattle area.

Yelp
I held a team party here. Easy to book and coordinate with the manager. Set a dollar limit so folks could order any drinks they wanted up to the limit. Great spread of appetizers and hors d'oeuvres. Happy bartenders acted as our servers and kept the food stocked and fresh. Wonderful ambiance. The entrance doesn't open till 5 and you walk through the bar around to the back to C&U for the room there. FYI the valet will tell you to go to the restaurant which is on the 2nd floor. C&U is on the first floor.

Yelp
TLDR : Fun ambience, limited food options but great drinks We visited Civility and Unrest while visiting Seattle and loved the place- such a fun ambience and setting. The drinks were good, the absinthe fountain was a fun experience ($$$). The fries were nice, the spicy sauce was great. The food options are however limited. There servers were nice polite and good with their drinks recommendations.

Yelp
Came here with some girlfriends for drinks and dinner. The vibe and decor of the place is very cool, and our waiter (JoJo) was the absolute best (he was very on top of keeping our wine glasses full and helping with taking photos, even a video lol) The cocktails are all one price $22, so it's pretty spendy. The drinks were very unique and had fun presentation. The food was a bit disappointing. I enjoyed the starters (carrots and sprouts), and the wagyu tartare was tasty but maybe a bit too rich with the butter spread they use - which overpowered the meat, but the pastas were very overpriced and had tiny portions. We also ordered the cod which was a super small portion of fish for the price.

Yelp
Super cute! Came here with my mom and it was nice and tucked away. There was live music which was a great touch. Bartenders were knowledgeable and friendly! Make sure you plan in advance to be sure you get a seat.

Yelp
I went here for a company event and the drinks were fairly solid. Although priced at $18 each, for the quality, it is not too stellar. I tried 5 different cocktails, and the ones that really stood out were the Civil Unrest and Deez Kneez cocktail. The rest are either too bland or too strong, nothing in between. This is a speakeasy that can be hard to enter, so your best bet is to go up to the second floor to the Lakehouse and ask a staff for directions, which involves taking a staircase down. Alternatively, you could figure out the entrance from the first floor near the W and there would be an arrow saying cocktails if I recall correctly. Civil Unrest - like a Manhattan. The candied cherry was excellent and tasted a bit different from the regular Manhattan. Simple yet elegant Ridiculo - this one has a strong chili taste but did not really taste spicy. It was more herbal Deez Kneez - fantastic. I am always a fan of gin. This one has some black pepper garnish so it was a bit peppery and fruity at the same time. I was initially expecting something like a gimlet so I was pleasantly surprised. Adam's Apple - the cranberry shrub is like 3 cranberry skewers that are fairly bland, and the drink did not yield the fruitiness that I anticipated from the ingredients list. I would skip this one even though it looks great in pictures. The Fire Drink - I was invited by a coworker to try this drink, so I have no idea the exact name, but if you tell the bartender, they will probably know what you are talking about. This one looks way better than it tasted - it involved a very elaborate show (which you can see in my reel) involving fire and dry ice. The drink has hints of passion fruit, but it tasted so bitter and strong. I am not even sure if it is healthy to drink a dry ice liquid, which they did pour as part of the drink. Overall, the place is worth to try as it gives nice speakeasy vibes and a lot of Instagrammable photo ops. Just know to order what is good based on this review and other reviews and enjoy, especially given the price tag of each cocktail.

Yelp
Came here for a birthday and was far from mediocre. The staff made the birthday girl feel so very special and the drinks were top tier. A classy yet approachable vibe thanks to the welcoming staff. The drinks were a plus but the people are really the star of the show here!

Yelp
I came here to celebrate my friend's bday. The area we sat in was a little awkward/cramped (the table was so much smaller than the booth so I was half off it), right next to the outside bar. Nothing on the menu really intrigued me (especially with the steep prices and terrible reviews of many items online). I was really craving something heavy with meat so I settled on a burger which ended up being $29 before tax and mandatory 20% service charge (sheeeeesh. Don't judge me, my dyslexia didn't read $29 on the menu or I wouldn't have gotten it). It was a solid burger though, very filling! For drinks I got the season change which was just okay, nothing special. My friends got the dragons kiss which was a lot sweeter! When the inside bar opened up, we went there to order the tea for two drink. Although this was a little pricey, this was my favorite! It tasted so good, we had trouble believing there was any alcohol in it. They provided us an extra tea cup since there were 3 of us which was really nice of them! Would I come back? Probably not, unless to try out drinks at the inside bar. It's a way better vibe in there!

Yelp
First time coming to Civility & Unrest, and I already cannot wait to come back! We absolutely loved the ambience, and the service was truly superb. Our waitress was so fun to talk to, and gave us incredible suggestions! We will definitely be back again to try more of their amazing cocktails!

Yelp
After hosting a few guests for a golf tournament in Snoqualmie I suggested my husband to go to Civility & Unrest verses Seattle. The service, atmosphere, cocktails, and food are all spectacular. They really appreciated the menu variety with both quick bite bar food, and actual wholesome meal options. If you're on the Eastside, and seeking an upscale bar I highly recommend Civility & Unrest.

Yelp
Great drinks!!! I always love the vibes here!! This place has amazing music and always has good vibes. One of the top spots for hip hop parties on the weekends as well. Definitely recommend this place, the craft cocktails are the best!

Yelp
Overall what they offer is great and well-done. Their drinks are diverse and they can take on your request. Their drinks are very strong on alcohol which I love. Food is alright. Their burger meets the standard. Surprisingly we enjoyed bread and butter. Their butter is seasoned and tastes savory. HOWEVER My first interaction with the host was vey unpleasant. My friend walked in and got us a table while I was running late. I came in and he proceeded to say if there was a name for a reservation. He explained that this bar usually has guests from W Hotel or reserved ahead of time. My friend is a walk-in so I know for sure there was no name in the system, but I just said it out so he can let it go. Of course, he looked at his tablet and found nothing, then he said let me walk you in and see if your friend is here. The bar wasn't packed or had a long line. So the whole experience was very unwelcoming from their end which kinda made me think whether the underlying issue is a behavior from a stereotype towards an Asian table and me visually being queer. I understand it may not be their true intention but another approach on hosting would be appreciated and not to make your guest feel less belonged there. - Here is the photo of my purse sitting on their couch at the conner table on the left side! Thank you

Yelp
In the last two days I went to civility and Unrest twice after not visiting the establishment for several years. The cocktails are still some of the best one can find in the Bellevue area. We shared several and they were excellent. The food from the sister restaurant @Lakehouse was also yummy. The atmosphere is great, service outstanding and the drinks fabulous. What else can one ask for??

Yelp
I've been to Civility and Unrest a handful of times. I've had a different drink every time because... why not? I enjoyed the drinks that are made on the spot after I tell the bartender a few of the flavors and liquors I like rather than the ones on the menu. The ambiance is very fitting for a baseman speakeasy wannabe bar and I like that they have 2 spaces.

Yelp
Excellent service, our bartender Choey made great drinks and made our experience enjoyable. The atmosphere was nice. Definitely coming back.

Yelp
Lovely underground speakeasy serving amazing cocktails. We stopped by on a weekday night and it wasnt a challenge to get a seat. Loved the ambience. We ordered Civil Unrest (whisky based cocktail like an old fashioned), Kiss of a Dragon (vodka based cocktail. Do eat the strawberry with your drink to enjoy the flavors), Seasons Changing (run based cocktail) and Lish City (gin based cocktail). Apart from the Lush City we really liked all our cocktails. They were phenomenal. The Lush City was okay ish not too bad though. Service was great. They have nice cozy booths as well to be seated. All in all loved this place and will be back again for sure!

Yelp
You're coming here for the ambiance. Very vibey speakeasy type atmosphere. I'll say that's where things end. Drinks are way overpriced and nothing special. And "mixologists" were hard to flag down.
google avatar

Charlie T.

Yelp
We came here for after dinner drinks. They have two different sides with different cocktail menus. We sat in the front first and had a drink and then was able to go to the other side. The cocktails on the second side were a bit more extravagant and a little more expensive. The vibes of the place were nice and trendy. The service was pretty good on both sides. We ordered the Volcano drink, which was a show itself.
google avatar

Nicole L.

Yelp
Drinks are great. Service was a little on the day we were there. I didn't order any food but everyone there did seemed to enjoy their meal! We were there for a girls night out. Would repeat.
google avatar

Yelp
Love the ambient, speakeasy vibes here. Super fancy and dimly lit and definitely makes you feel boujee. The cocktails were great, although a bit pricy. Great spot for grab drinks with friends or a date. Service was good too.

Yelp
My most favorite bar in Bellevue, they have so many special selections. Love the craft cocktails, they combine visual and gustative art that brings the experience to a different level. Bartender there is very friendly, shout out to JoJo bring us such nice experience and vibe. Will return soon. Tip: they have live band on Thursdays!!
google avatar

Yingbo W.

Yelp
Drinks are well balanced and the food wasn't bad either although not cheap! My friend and I went on an early weeknight and it was dead until very late night when the kitchen was closed. I would come here again for a date on a weekend.

Yelp
Drinks are great. The service is friendly. Unrest is a great evening bar to grab a cocktail with your date

Yelp
Met up with some friends for a bday. I don't drink so I personally can't comment on the cocktails but my friends said they loved it and enjoyed them. I added the cutest pics one of my friends took. Entrance looked really cool! Loved the vibes. Customer service was good as well. The waitress was very attentive. Someone different stopped by and asked how everything was. That's always nice! Love that. I gave it 2 stars based off the food. The customer service was excellent so I do not want to take anything away from that. On to the food.. took awhile to come out! Buttt seems like people enjoy the drinks so maybe they don't care too much. But me.. I was hungry. Ha. Starter: Classic Bread and Butter. Wasn't a huge fan. The bread was too salty for me enough to not want to put butter. Main: Pork Chops on Grits with Brussels Sprouts and Pear. Super huge chunks of Pork Chops and so fatty! The whole dish was just so salty. The pears weren't the best cooked so didn't really compliment the dish very well tbh. Dessert: Ice Cream Sandwich w/ Almond Ice cream. Didn't expect it to be dipped in chocolate but that was a cool idea but then they had salt flakes on it! Bruhhhh this place loves salt. Lol. I just peeled the top off and ate the ice cream and bottom part. It was way better that way. I can def see someone possibly liking the entire thing but everything else was so salty and then to find salt on top of my ice cream dessert. Mannnn c'mon. Lol. Overall I can see why this would be a fun place to have drinks with friends but not for food. If you really enjoy good food and hungry. This isn't the place. My opinion of course but let me tell youuuuu. Haha. I've never had so much salt in one sitting. I clearly can't get over how salty everything was. Lol. Bottom line go for drinks not food. Haha. Oh forgot to mention it was super expensive for some salt. SMH. Lol.

Yelp
First things first, if you want a great drink, come here... If you want genuine human interaction with any of the staff, THIS IS NOT YOUR PLACE
google avatar

Yelp
In the bottom floor of The W, you'll find Civility & Unrest! It's hard to miss with the mural painted right outside of it. We were headed up to check into the hotel, but knew we had to make a trip back down to check out this bar. Coming in, it's a lot smaller than I expected! With it being earlier on a Friday, not too many people were there. We sat at the bar and were greeted quickly and cheerfully by the bartender. Nice guy and made genuine conversation. There's no tv, but they have projectors going with things playing. When we were in, it was a golden retriever puppy live cam. Can you really complain? I went with the Healing Winds (tumeric infused vodka, gingered honey, lemon, mole bitters). DELICIOUS. The gingered honey REALLY steals the show on this drink. It was refreshing and the perfect cocktail to cheers to the weekend with! Definitely a great spot to stop for a cocktail. They've also got bites as well, but we didn't indulge. Maybe next time!
google avatar

Y J.

Yelp
Drinks were strange, service took forever, food was painfully underwhelming, and the decor's cheap and tacky. LA/NYC prices without being anywhere close to the quality, standard, or ambience. At valet, you have a confused attendant that clearly hates his job and sad passerby's taking selfies in front of other people's vehicles. In the entryway, you have swarms of people clogging the doorway to have meaningless conversation. Inside the bar, we quite literally witnessed a neighboring table get their phone jacked. Just a miserable, weird, and ghetto vibe. Put up a little more and go to Ascend.
google avatar

Pushkar B.

Yelp
Didn't have food but their old fashioned did the job. Ambiance was super cool with a band playing. A bit tight on the space but it's what you get when people love a spot!

Wang L.

Yelp
The bar is inside W hotel The cocktail special made called "delicious " is nice It is not too loud, so good place to rest and talk
google avatar

Emily H.

Yelp
We made reservations for two at 5. Two rounds of drinks and a dessert took us about 80 minutes. We got dirty martini, hot in Jalisco, the fall sour and Persephone's dream. The drinks were delicious. The chevre cheesecake was delicious. Parking at Lincoln Square south was easy and free. First floor of Lincoln square 1 inside w hotel. You just walk past Japonessa
google avatar

Kamara S.

Yelp
This is definitely not the place you go to if you want some "rest" I have been to this spot multiple times since its start. It took my second visit to realize it was connected to the Lakehouse on the second floor which wIll explain how their bar eats are a bit more extra (in the best way) that you would get in a typical bar. I mean not everywhere we serves a filet mignon slider but maybe I need to go to different places. Maybe because it is the makeup of this spot, but you shouldn't depend on eats here to fill you especially on a budget. Also the serving of the food won't be as quick as a drink or cocktail, especially when there are slightly busy. But I would definitely try it out for the desserts. Speaking of food, I would come here on Sunday or Monday for its all day social hour for discounted food and drinks (plus less people if you are into that). Also the kitchen closes at 11 on weekdays so that is a nice treat. But you should definitely go to this place for the drinks and the ambience. When you enter, you encounter this long bar with chairs and stools and two TVs. Have I seen a football game being played on these screens.. no. But it could happen. However, I have seen them play Star Wars movies and I watched in silence. They do have events where I assume you can listen too. But something I am embarrassed about is the fact that there is another bar area behind the first one. Though you can't easily see I it from the front unless you go the side to see the entrance. But it took an empty day and a bartender who let me know for me to venture there. To be fair, the bathrooms are right before you enter the bar area so it is easy to miss. This is a place where not drinking the cocktails (they have non alcoholic ones as well) means you are missing a part of the experience. I have seen the process of someone drinking absinthe and it is interesting though something I would recommend for 2 or more people. Their general cocktails are great but I would definitely check in with your bartender to see which drink best fits you. These drinks can carry a punch (of flavor, spice, more bourbon you can handle, etc.) Overall, this is definitely a place to visit for a sip with a friend or two. And venture to the back!!
google avatar

Nina S.

Yelp
Went here for a company event. Looking forward to trying their drinks but company event only hosted for beer and wine. Boo! Didn't want to fork out the $$$ for some cocktail that I might not like or too strong for me (I'm light weight), so I got a Moscow Mule instead. I'm disappointed with it -- it was weak and had no taste. I'd probably come back and try their mixologist's recommendations. I heard they're good. Service was good. Food was good.
google avatar

Brian F.

Yelp
I came here for their social hour (Tuesday-Saturday 4-7pm and all day Sunday-Monday) which includes $10 cocktails and discounts on some food items. This bar is hidden away so if you have trouble finding it like I did it's located where the parking/valet is for the Westin next to Wild Ginger. Keep going through the valet area and you'll see it on the right. It feels a little out of place for a bar like this to be stowed away underneath a hotel. My first drink was the civil unrest which was a strong dry drink and I enjoyed it. For my second drink I wanted to try something different from the types of drinks I usually get so I tried the contender and thought it was just okay. I took a sip of my friend's a day in giverny and it was very refreshing and I'd recommend that as well. For food we ordered the totchos which were really good! Cheese sauce and bacon on tater tots are always going to be a hit. We also got the charcuterie and cheese which was nice as well. I totally forgot about the back bar or else I would've gone there to check it out! Maybe I wasn't paying attention but I didn't even see an entrance or anything to it. I guess that means I will have to come back to find it. I would probably only come back for their social hour since they have a lot of good deals and drinks.
google avatar

Lawrence L.

Yelp
Cool place trying to have a speakeasy vibe. Overall a good experience and worth a go. It's hard to be a "hidden" place when you're on the first floor of the W just left of the entryway. Points for trying, good atmosphere and music. The Good Excellent cocktails with some innovative twists. I had Old Fashion and my date a Don't Fear the Reaper and Healing Winds. Both excellent The Ok Food is just ok. We're both vegetarians so the options are what they are. I expect to pay more in a speakeasy/gastropub/Bellevue but... this was pricy for plain roasted butternut squash. I went back over my bill after I got home and realized I had been overcharged.
google avatar

Julie P.

Yelp
I've been here handful of times for Happy Hour and for regular drinks after dinner. I would definitely recommend coming here for hh if you don't want to spend $20 per drink. Happy hour all night on Sundays & Monday, & 4-7pm on other days! Great intimate setting - speakeasy vibe which I really enjoyed! The bar bites was pretty good as well - my favorite thing I tried were the Totchos (tater tot nachos with beecher's cheese) so yummy! We sat at the bar and the service was superb. They were very friendly & prompt! Delicious cocktails, good food, great vibe, & awesome service! What is there not to like? I'll be coming back here often :)
google avatar

Samantha T.

Yelp
Drinks and vibe was good. Don't order blindly or let the waitstaff decide. Our bill was $390 for 4 drinks (one was a beer) and 4 shots which seemed a little outrageous to me. But maybe that's the new prices for grabbing a nightcap? It felt like the server intentionally inflated the bill.
google avatar

Semih Ege B.

Yelp
One of the best speakeasy bars that I've ever been to. I highly recommend to sit at the bar in the back. All the cocktails were very good and we got to see how they made each drink!
google avatar

Doug M.

Yelp
Not quite a speakeasy as others have noted. There is a forward room that is bright and light. Almost reminds me of a 50's diner with a long counter. Back and to the right is a doorway connecting to a back room that is much darker and has chill ambiance. The two rooms have very different menus including different drinks. They do not like to serve from menu of room you're not seated at for some reason? Drinks options are awesome! Some very creative combos and very unique flavors. Price is a bit much, but you are in Bellevue! Did not try any food, but I know it comes from the Lake House upstairs. My only issue is with service. A lot of attitude for a night that had the place half empty. Had to waive down servers every time we wanted another round or the check. The fact that we had three different people tending our table was a bit annoying. It appears the 20% automatic tip on all bills really seems to have a negative affect on service.
google avatar

Michelle E.

Yelp
Consistently great bar on the Eastside! Many try to have a vibe, but C&U delivers both in ambiance and quality. The drinks are amazing -- been going for years and never had a back cocktail. The bartenders are very knowledgeable and good at their craft; I f you have questions or don't understand something simply ask and they're happy to explain a drink or make you something you'd love. The vibe is modern-speakeasy; it's chill, elevated, modern, and a great place to meet friends. Highly recommend and a jewel in Bellevue.
google avatar

Yelp
Fancy, schmancy speakeasy...but inviting and fun! My friend and I came here for a cocktail and we had fun just hanging out, talking and enjoying the scene. Civility & Unrest is located in the W Bellevue Hotel, and the entrance is a little hidden on the lower level, but once you pass the hallway with a shoeshine service and bathrooms, you've entered the speakeasy. As soon as we entered we were immediately greeted by the bartender who ended up being friendly and provided great service, continually checking in with us at our booth. My friend had the Damn Gina cocktail while I settled in with the Civil Unrest cocktail. The Civil Unrest cocktail is made with Wild Turkey 101, and tastes a lot like a Manhattan, which I'm a fan of. It was bold, heavy on the booze, but light from the bitters and blueberry garnish. There's a cocktail for everyone though, as the menu has unique, craft cocktails with whatever base/hard A you prefer. There's also a wine and champagne list and local drafts on tap. AND, they do serve The Lakehouse's full menu here, since Chef Jason Wilson is the owner of both establishments. There was a private area with a ton of lounge seating, a private bar and disco balls that was closed off during our visit. It looked like a super fun, hip place to be so can only imagine how craaaayyy the place gets on the weekends. Overall, Civility & Unrest is a needed speakeasy in Bellevue with signature craft cocktails and a fun atmosphere, perfect for dancing and boozing on the weekends! Or just, ya know, hanging out. Whatevs.

Yelp
Not a truly comfortable environment, and we had trouble with the servers. We ordered the happy hour bubbles while we waited for our guest, but the bartender soon came back to see if we wanted to order, forgetting that we had. Later, one of our party said he may want another drink, but before he could order the bill was promptly presented. We ordered some snacks. Most of them were all right, but difficult to share. Crudités arrived with no serving spoon for the green hummus, which meant leaving most of it in the bowl as we didn't want to double-dip. Tachoes were only dribbled with cheese. Adding our Reveler Club points seemed a bit of a hassle. For a $200 Happy Hour, the effort should be a little more pronounced.

Yelp
Had a small team dinner at civility and unrest. We were running behind our reservation and they were extremely accommodating. We were seated and offered drinks in a timely manner. The servers were friendly and provided some amazing recommendations. Good was great. I would recommend the mushroom pasta, it was phenomenal.

Yelp
Came here for a quick drink as part of my exploration of the new Expansion. True to speakeasy form they are hard to find. You have to enter from the valet area but I was in the mall area and I saw it on the map but there was no door (the Lincoln Square map doesn't actually indicate doorways!). Initially you're not even sure if you're in the right place because it is just a black area with very subtle doors. But you see the bar behind the circular window and you get a hint that you're in the right place. There's really two bars in the establishment with each half having its own vibe. I did the front section, not sure if the back section has a different menu or not, but I did spot a juicer in the back section - maybe more scratch there? (Speaking of scratch they have a DJ back there too) I had a cocktail and a bar bite - the gruyere puffs which the staff say are their favourites. They were quite good, especially with the truffle aioli. The cocktail was decent but not knock-my-socks off. I will be back to try more.

Yelp
Very cool bar in this affluent artsy Bellevue Washington where microsoft headquarters and google locations reside. This place is by the Braevern building off to the side entrance to W hotel. Vibe is hip and classy as the bartenders and waitstaff are. Drinks at happy hour cocktails and mixes of fruity liquor and fresh fruits are tops!

Yelp
Overpriced weak drinks, and mediocre food made this not my favorite place to go. My husband and I popped in here before going to a movie at Lincoln Square. We were seated promptly and the tables were spread out. Also appreciated they checked for vaccines at the door. The experience kind of went downhill from there. Everything is just very expensive which would be fine if it were actually good. That being said, the wait staff was lovely and friendly, but there are cheaper better bars all over the place.

Yelp
I been to Civility & Unrest numerous times before. My company has spent large sums of money with them and we've always had a positive experience. Last night was the single worst experience I've had in any bar/restaurant. My girlfriend and I entered the lobby where there was a large group of people waiting. I noticed several empty seats at the bar and we proceeded to two right in front of a bartender. We patiently waited while talking. After several minutes the bartender (manager?) from the opposite end of the bar came down and asked if we had shown our IDs to anyone. I informed him we had not and he responded with "that's why we have a Please Wait to Be Seated sign over there", and then directed us back to the lobby. I've never know a bar that wasn't open seating at the bar; typically those signs are for parties waiting for a table. We went back to the lobby where a host came over a couple minutes later and asked if we were with the large party in front of us. I told him we were not and he brought us back to the same two seats we were just at. We resumed talking and picked up the menus, while watching the bartender in front of us made drinks. After several minutes, the same gentlemen that previously told us to wait in the lobby came all the way back down and said "my bartender informed me you are both intoxicated so we can't serve you". My girlfriend attempted to engage with him while he quickly returned to his end of the bar. I asked the bartender right in front of us (who hadn't moved the entire time) if she told him we were drunk, and she responded "I haven't even spoke with you guys". I attempted to understand why from both her and him, but it was clear his decision had been made. This was my first time in my 48 years that I was targeted and discriminated against. I can say this confidently as we had only had one prior drink at Ascend and were clearly showing no signs of intoxication. It is extremely disappointing that this behavior still exists and we will be giving our future business to establishments that respect their customers.
