CJ's Tacos #2 - Thicket

Great flavors, fast service, exceed my expectations in flavors, would definitely come back 😋

CJ’s makes the best breakfast tacos I’ve ever had. Not just in Austin, anywhere. What sets them apart is they actually understand food. The eggs are cooked right, never rubbery. Each ingredient is chosen with care. The balance only comes from someone who genuinely cares about what they’re putting in front of you.

4.9 stars is not enough. 10 stars. The best taco truck I’ve ever had. The quesabirria and ramen birria are undefeated. I plan on trying the whole menu. I’m not sure I could try any other food truck in thicket park and not regret passing on CJ tacos. And CJ is a cool guy.

Did not disappoint at all. The food and service were great. I was happy the new location opened closer to me. I got 3 tacos, and my friend showed up, so I gave her 1, and I was happy she got to try CJ's taco for the first time, but sad, I only had 2 tacos left😅. I highly recommend trying these guys out.

Worst burrito ever. Wayyyyyy too much refried beans. The salsas they give you are both so spicy I couldnt even eat them. Plus they are cream based salsas but the burrito has a ton of sour cream in it already. Literally a pool of grease in the burrito. And it wasnt layered right, all the beans were on top all the meat at the bottom. Yeah threw it away couldnt even enjoy it. And idk the chick at the front was not that friendly. Not a good experience

Lived in Los Angeles for 10 years, this Birria brings back those memories. Corn tortillas look homemade, the birria Ramen is amazing flavor. And if you like super spicy, which I do, you can ask for the secret black sauce which isn't on the menu ;) Super flavorful, and pretty decent pricing.

I can’t believe I’ve gone to thicket park so many times and not tried CJs tacos. I’ll say the Birria taco wasn’t my favorite surprisingly, but I bet the quesadilla version would be awesome. I did love the vegetarian fried avocado taco with a Chipotle mayo and tangy mango pico, as well as the build your own breakfast taco (might be my favorite) with egg, chorizo, refried beans, and cheese. The salsas are spicy which I love and overall will definitely come back. I don’t take the time to write reviews often but for a small business like this, it deserves all the love. Also the man working the truck (might be the owner?) was super nice as well, and overall seems like a chill guy. CJ’s Tacos and Stouthaus coffee make the perfect brunch pairing.

CJs tacos are the best!!! This is my new regular spot. Definitely try his HOME MADE corn tortillas, they are so fresh and don’t fall apart.

Always looking for a good taco place and of course Austin is known for food trucks. I ordered online and it was made quick and it was so easy to order. When I got there the guy was very nice and I was on my way to a surprise of delicious tacos. I will definitely be back with the family to try more from the menu. I got the quesobirria, Al pastor tacos and CJ hangover consume! So delicious filled with bold flavor! Ambiance is outdoor setting, the area is good if you would like to be outside and have your kids play they have a lot of things for small child to enjoy while you enjoy your food.

Tacos were supper filling and would definitely come back!! The salsas were chefs kiss. They were kind and quick!

Showed up at 6PM. Closed for the day. Advertised that they stay open til 7PM. Very unTexan to lie.

I don't think I've had such a good quesabirria taco is such a long time. The shell stayed so crispy long after we received our food - I've usually had them sopping wet and soggy after a while. This one? Perfect! I think the addition of cabbage was a refreshing take on them as well. The consume was also delicious, I've had plenty where it tastes very watery but this one had so much flavor. I just wish that it had a slightly wider cup to dip in, it was pretty narrow. So so delicious though! The service was great, the order taker laughed at my dad's cheesy jokes so I take that as a win. We got our food put pretty fast, nice and hot. I can't speak on any ambience exactly towards CJ's, but the overall food truck park was really cute and fun. Had nice misters to keep us cool, too! Would definitely come back for CJ's!

I had high hopes trying this place out, birria tacos were the greasiest tacos ever and the consommé had absolutely no flavor. Also purchased were the taco bowls, which were very bland and the flank steak tacos which tasted as if the meat had gone bad. Would not go back.

CJ's was running a Valentine's Day special for a heart shaped Birria taco, so of course we had to try it! This thing was huge for $25! Loaded with tons of meat and the consommé had pieces of meat, onion, cilantro and so much seasoning in it. Hands down, this whim purchase was a pleasant surprise. We'll definitely be back to try normal menu items.

What a great new addition to the Thicket in South Austin! As others have noted, CJ's is not your "boutique tiny tacos" - these are large and well filled at a great price! I arrived about 50 min before they closed on a weekday, and they still had tacos I asked for recommendations and the fellow was so nice in telling me about his favorites outside of the birria ones. I tired the fried fish (AMAZING), al pastor and suadero, on a mix of corn and flour tacos based on recommended pairings. Only feedback I'd have is that the suadero is a little drier than the others, so if you get it I'd recommend loading up on the salsa too. The tortillas were big and were good for dipping if you had any left with a little of the salsa. Food came out pretty fast (within 7min or maybe less) and was very yummy. Will be back

This place was amazing! The food was delicious and fresh. We stayed and enjoyed the nice weather out and I love that there is so much room for people to space out. The service here was also great and very friendly. Overall we will definitely be coming back! Pictured is the burrito bowl, Al pastor and Birria tacos, and the quesabirria!

Some of the best tacos in Austin. Go quite a bit and it's always great. The tortillas being homemade is what makes it even better. Great spot. Definitely recommend the suadero and al pastor.

I had the pleasure of visiting CJ's tacos recently and would highly recommend checking it out. The Quesabirria Tacos are a must try - they are deep fried to perfection and the meat melts in your mouth. The tortilla gives it crunch and the cheese and sauces make it even better. Not only is the food amazing, but I have to give props to CJ's for the portion sizes. When I saw there were three tacos in the order, I was initially skeptical as to whether I would be full after eating. However, I was happy to be proven wrong as I found myself unable to finish the 3rd taco. They were huge! Each order is about $11 and could easily fill up an adult or a few people to share as a snack. While Thicket food truck park is a bit out of the way from downtown Austin, the ambiance was very relaxing and we even got to enjoy some live music which was a nice touch. Many people brought their dogs and there are plenty of picnic benches to sit and eat. The service was also good - we were able to place our order on the phone when we were on our way over and it was ready by the time we arrived. The only minor hiccup was that they forgot one of the sauces that comes with the order but I hardly noticed. I can't wait to be back for a future visit!

Quick, fast, straight to the point breakfast tacos. We happen to show up 30 minutes before breakfast tacos ended. They have a large variety of non breakfast tacos like birria style tacos and so much more. I got the migas and chorizo cheese and eggs. It was pretty good despite the tortillas not being homemade. The only complaint I have is that extra salsa costs. That's kind of annoying. But business is business. The salsa was very spicy and I loved it.

I ordered several different kinds of tacos for lunch with my husband. Quesabirria, suadero, and al pastor. So delicious. Legit sized tacos. Very filling. Good price. Love the location. Ample parking and reasonable wait time on a Saturday.

Only one vegetarian option but a delicious one. They made it non-fried for me so it was also gluten-free on corn tortillas. The mango salsa was delicious and the service was super friendly. The picnic seating at Thicket is always a delight and in a group, everyone gets variety.

One of the best Migas taco and salsa I've ever had!! Highly recommend and it's in Thicket Park so you can grab some coffee as well while you wait.

First visit, just an impulsive thing.... We ate the vegetarian taco (fried avocado), chicken taco, and the bistec taco. The prices were so low that I expected them to be simple bare tacos but, instead, they were really beautiful and sophisticated tacos. The meats were lean and flavorful. The salsas (doña, habanero, and tomatillo) were all really good. Wonderful experience.

I ordered the quesabirrias and the order was brought out to my table in under 10 minutes! Super flavorful and delicious!

Been frequenting the CJ's Tacos location at the Thicket Food Truck Park off of 1st for a few months now, so I feel I can give an honest review. This truck offers some of the best tacos I've ever had (as a native Texan who's had plenty). The portions can't be beat for Austin. I got a fried fish taco and a chorizo taco and was full off of that alone (as a near 200 lb man). None of those tiny tacos that you might find at some trendy taco spots. I've gotten the $10 quesabirria plate before (best quesabirria I've had in Austin) and I couldn't even finish it. The prices don't just match the portions, they make an incredible deal for the area. I got the two pictured tacos and a Jarrito for $8. Everything I've gotten here has been up to par. They've never once messed up an order and the quality is always consistent. The food truck park it's located in is well shaded with lots of seating and long benches so it's perfect for bringing some friends. I can't recommend this truck enough!

CJ's has some of the best tacos in town! Ate here almost every day for lunch when I worked nearby, I still make the trip to go get these tacos. The owner is super nice and always fast, they will let you sit in your car while they make your tacos and then bring them to you, great for avoiding the summer heat while you're waiting on your to-go food. Everything I've had here is awesome, favorites are the chicken taco and birria

Genuinely the best birria tacos I have ever had in my life (and I'm avid birria taco enthusiast lol) !! I ask for onions and cilantro instead of curtido and put both the green and orange salsas on it ! Their salsas are amazing and the staff is the absolute sweetest ! I go here at least once a week and would recommend this to anyone that wants good authentic mexican tacos and salsa that's actually spicy and has such a rich flavor !

Had breakfast tacos and they might be the best in ATX!!! I asked for a custom machaca which wasn't on the menu and my man delivered without fail! Chili de arbol hot sauce that was included was fire!!!!
