The 15 Best Sun Valley Restaurants to Try Right Now - Eater

"Chef and owner Chris Kastner runs this eco-conscious restaurant with his two children, Gavin and Simone. Gavin mans the kitchen and some front-of-house operations and Simone makes all the desserts. The restaurant is surrounded by lush vegetation, and the menu skews healthy and local. There is some bar seating overlooking the open kitchen, and as at nearly every venue in the area, resort casual is fine. Offerings change almost daily depending on what’s in season, but you can expect dishes like Cajun-style grilled Idaho trout, Washington steamed clams, and rack of lamb with an array of sides showcasing produce at its peak. Reservations for indoor dining are available, along with takeout and in-person shopping for pantry goods." - Scott Wink

CKs is a great place for quality good food and cocktails. It is a little on the high end price wise but ultimately worth it as the food almost never disappoints. The menu often changes to follow what's fresh and in season. Delicious apps, the clams are always a hit. They offer nightly fish and steak specials, I always get the fish special and it's delicious every time. Good atmosphere and friendly staff. Great place for a date night.

We were invited here for dinner and it was an enjoyable experience. The food was excellent and the service too. We especially enjoyed the Caesar salad, trout and triple threat for dessert. Our table for 5 was at the end of the room, and it felt a little cramped.

Google
Not sure what the hype is. Food was good but not 21$ for a burger good. My coke went unfilled when I needed more. Service was slow. When asking for separate checks I was told I should have asked for that before the order was taken. Would rather go into Ketchum to Lefty's for a cheaper meal with better service and Monkey frys.

Google
An amazing small restaurant in Hailey with a great choice of cocktails and wines. Grilled Idaho trout and chilled soup of the day were outstanding. Great ambience and service from everyone (inc our server Taylor) - certainly worth a reservation in Sun Valley area!

Google
Amazing food. Nice atmosphere. Steaks were perfect. Delicious ice cream

Google
Fabulous dinner! Might be the best meal my wife and I have ever experienced. Trout is absolutely delicious.

Google
Our group of nine recently had an amazing meal at CK's. My husband and I split the sweet potato chips, the local roasted beet and backyard poached pear salad, and the catch of the day, sea bass. All were absolutely wonderful. The group shared the amazing carrot cake, which we treated as a birthday cake for the five guys in our group who turned 65 this year. I would gladly eat here again!

Google
Thanksgiving dinner was a flop chewy clams in the chowder the salad dressing all wrong i ordered the vegan shepards pie... my wife had traditional turkey plate... mashed were watery and tasteless i couldnt eat the shepards it was aweful took desert home which was also so so..the hostess picked up our plates and asked how the meals were and we told her politely but she was in shock and nothing came of it. overall a very unmemorable experience. Service and the single crab cake and bread were the best parts of the dinner... $200 down the drain...

Yelp
An absolute delight to dine at CK's. The service and the food is always so so tasty and full of flavor. The 4 of us sat down and were greeted with a wonderful smile. We had appetizers, bread made daily, wine and beer. The wine menu is extensive and offers many options. Our Main entries offered as good as a culinary experience offers. Delicious, tasty, and the flavors exploded in your mouth with every bite. We finished the night with a slice of Carrot Cake- The BEST. And a cup of espresso. CK's is the best restaurant in the valley. Don't miss it.

Yelp
After a long, tiring day at work, my colleague and I were craving something truly special for dinner. That's when we stumbled upon CK's Real Food - and let me tell you, it was the perfect way to cap off our evening. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. We were able to snag a couple seats at the bar, where the bartender greeted us with a friendly smile. Even as he started on his closing duties, he remained attentive and engaging, entertaining us with fun Batman facts between mixing cocktails. But the real star of the show was the food. I decided to treat myself to the Grilled Grass Fed Gaucho Steak, and it was quite possibly the best steak I've ever had. The balsamic-fennel seed butter, sweet onions, and vibrant chimichurri came together in perfect harmony, elevating the fresh, high-quality cut of meat to new heights. Every bite was an absolute delight. What really sets CK's apart is their commitment to using only the freshest, locally-sourced ingredients. You can taste the difference in every dish - the flavors are bold, the textures are spot-on, and the overall dining experience is simply sublime. Whether you're looking for a relaxing night out or a truly memorable meal, CK's Real Food is an absolute must-visit. With its welcoming ambiance, top-notch service, and out-of-this-world cuisine, this Hailey gem earns a resounding 5 stars from this very satisfied customer. I can't wait to come back!

Yelp
The food here is amazingly delicious, they use the best high quality meats from local farms. The service was excellent, Jeannine was my waitress and she was simply wonderful! Great ambiance too! Highly recommending this restaurant if you find yourself in this area.

Yelp
This is my personal opinion. We visited CK's last week and I must say, apart from stellar service (thus two stars), it was a total boring disappointment. I started with a Tito's martini and asked for a double olive; I had two rounds. When the bill came I discovered that I was charged a $1.00 for each extra olive. In a long life of patronizing quality restaurants, I had never, ever seen this before and was appalled. A total failure of hospitality in my book and should never happened. It reeked of cheapness and particularly when they don't give call liquor away in the first place. I ordered a hamburger. Smallish and as dry as the gobi desert. $22.00. Fries were extra, were served hot and were good. That said, the menu has not materially changed in many years (except for the price) and while the food is generally good, the lack of creativity and innovation is a disincentive to return. As if charging for an extra olive were not enough disincentive to return. It will be a long while before we go back. Plenty of other places to try.

Yelp
The BEST quality food & flavor in Sun Valley! No question, our absolute favorite among a handful of worthy competitors, the most delicious!

Yelp
What's not to love about CK's? Amazing food, friendly service, local and fresh ingredients and a local's favorite. The outdoor patio is especially nice in the summer months. We always try the specials and are never disappointed!

Yelp
What a wonderful dinner. Great food, service and atmosphere. The food was fresh and flavorful with wonderful aromas. One of the best meals I've had out in a long while. Some favorites were the pate, cauliflower soup, gaucho steak and all the deserts.

Yelp
Delish! Locally sourced food, great cocktails and excellent service!!! Always a fav!!!!

Yelp
Best fine dining in the Sun Valley area! Consistent and creative. Super friendly service.

Yelp
WOW. What a great restaurant. If you want to be treated like royalty. The service is great. The food was amazing. The wedge romaine with anchovies was perfect. Then I had the Rack of Lamb. The best I have ever had. Defiantly treat yourself at CK's.

Billie S.

Yelp
We have been providing lamb from our family ranch to CK's, and we recently had an opportunity to dine at CK's as a family. The rack of lamb dish that chef Chris has developed is extraordinary. We enjoyed it with the wedge and beet salads. What a delight to see fine local food perfected by such a fine chef and staff. We also had the triple threat dessert, and that toffee topping rivaled my Grandma Jeanne's famous candy. Truly a delight Thank you C.K.'s!

Yelp
Best restaurant in Hailey - hands down - any time I wanna treat myself this is my go to - and Janine works there so I feel like I'm having dinner at Mama's house
google avatar

Ramon L.

Yelp
Great quality food and good prices, full bar and great cocktails for sure my place to go when I'm in town

Heidi M.

Yelp
food was good, but service slow and abrupt- had a small gift card to use towards large bill and apparently without notifying you in advance if you use a gift card there is a mandatory 25% tip tacked on regardless of level of service.
google avatar

Yelp
I was told that, if I'm visiting Sun Valley, ID, I needed to make the trip to CK's Real Food in Hailey even though it is 20-25 min away. So I made a reservation in advance, put down a deposit and trusted everyone else. I was very pleased with the decision. The restaurant is described as expensive and fine dining, but it wasn't stuffy and I didn't think anything was outrageously priced. Further, the portions were a good size. We started with a Caesar salad (beware -- they charged a sharing fee and $2 for anchovies, which are my only complaints with the experience). The salad itself was great. Then, we got the burger and the slow food which was a gigantic piece of lamb with polenta. We also ordered sides of roasted potatoes and fries, which were great but ended up being too much food. All of that, with a glass of wine, came out to roughly $100 before tip.
google avatar

Lisa N.

Yelp
Great ambience. Went for dessert and we were very pleased with the fresh delicious lemon cake and carrot cake. The owner came out to see what we thought about it. We told her how good it was and she said her daughter comes in every day at 4 am to make the desserts. No wonder they were so fresh and her daughter is a gifted pâtissier!

Yelp
I have been in Hailey area two years and eat out quite often in Ketchum and Hailey We have been to CK about five times including last night with four of us (two being city slickers from NYC). Our meal last night was the best meal we have had in this area. Far and away best meal Crisp and light kale salad. Great figs and prosciutto app Squash blossoms app great Beat salad beautiful as was the product. Fresh Idaho trout grilled perfect and simple. Slow food style short ribs amazing. Halibut also seared and super This is best product available from meats to vegetables to fish. This restaurant could shine in any city and compete with the best
google avatar

Robert S.

Yelp
Ck's is amazing. The restaurant is cute and has great outdoor seating. The food, service and atmosphere are all great. This is one of the top restaurants in the Valley and definitely worth visiting.
google avatar

Chet D.

Yelp
Nice place, good food, clean and friendly staff. I had halibut and it was a great meal. Pricy so plan on spending close to $100 if you have a drink and appetizer. Recommended and would go back if i lived in the area. Give it a shot.

Carter W.

Yelp
Simply put, one of the best menus and meals that I have ever had. Wish I could have ordered more. Staff and atmosphere were both warm as well.

Mario S.

Yelp
Another great meal at CK,s! The food, drinks and staff are excellent! The menu always offers some great local farm to table options. Highly recommend!

Brian S.

Yelp
Consistent First Class Experience from Appetizers to Desserts. One of our favorites for any type of celebration.
google avatar

Antonio G.

Yelp
Food lacked in flavor, service polite but extremely slow, my daughter got her fries for desert Got the bill, big turn off to see a $7 charge for splitting a plate, not right, should've told us so when we asked. Mediocre experience!!!!!
google avatar

Stacey B.

Yelp
This was an unforgettable meal and one of the best I have had in a long time! We sat on the patio and ordered our drinks as well as an appetizer (sweet potato chips with spices). The staff was VERY attentive and helpful. The food we all ordered was so AMAZING! I had the fish of the day - halibut (awesome sauce and mushrooms) and it came with a nice, fresh, small salad with cucumbers. I ordered a side of green beans, which were good but basic. My friend had lamb, potatoes, chard, tzatzaki sauce. It was cooked to perfection! Finally, my other friend had extremely fresh, pink Cajun trout that had a good flavor. The desserts were phenomenal. We especially liked the Triple Threat (ice cream, English toffee and cookie crust). The lime pie was refreshing. Cherry choc chip ice cream which was enjoyable.

Yelp
The chef deserves 4 starts as the menu and execution were excellent. After 10 days of hiking the Tetons and Yellowstone, we arrived at Hailey for a wedding and a break before heading to Glacier National. We treated ourselves to a civilized and a bit upper-scaled dinner. The ambiance is intimate and chique. To start I had a bourbon cocktail Bob's Knees, refreshing mix with ginger and lemon. We shared the Wedge of Romaine/apples, scallions, Point Reyes blue cheese buttermilk dressing, the Slow Food of the day which was an earthy short ribs guisado, the Grilled Idaho Trout and Carolina tarter sauce which was superb, side orders of Roasted Indian Cauliflower which was a good pairing with the ribs and Roasted potatoes. We completed our experience sharing the delicious Triple Threat homemade vanilla, chocolate and espresso caramel ice cream with a cookie crust and caramel sauce. I order an espresso and Sambuca on the side and was disappointed that they do not have Sambuca which I settled for a Tawny port. Severs were polite yet did not seem to be on top of their game for such a pricey place. The did not offer for us to seat at their patio, which looked lovely, even though there were several tables open and were not occupied for several hours. Food Service & Attention to Details Went back today, after an early wedding, for a Bob's knees which I enjoyed at their front deck. Good stuff

Scott T.

Yelp
Food was okay but took almost 2 hours to get our food. Server forgot 1/2 of the things we requested.... Wouldn't eat there again
google avatar

Miles H.

Yelp
Best restaurant in Hailey. Great spot to celebrate any occasion or a fun date night. I wish the Washington clams were available when I visited, but they sold out the night before. Try the wagyu steak tips.

Darren L.

Yelp
Rob the manager is quite rude. I made a reservation on THEIR website and he called me right before saying there was no table for us. We had already been driving for 20 min. Then he said it was our fault and we should have called him instead of making a reservation on their website. If you enjoy fine dinning, I highly recommend Cookbook, Vintage and maybe Knob Hill in the area, they are at least as good as CK food wise, but you would be treated much better and they provide excellent service as well. When you intend to spend lots of money on a nice dinner, service and how you are treated matters.

Yelp
CK's? Culinary Kudos. Well, according to their website CK's stands for the initials of chef Chris Kastner, but kudos are in store for this fabulous restaurant. When we first sat down with my father-in-law at one of his favorite restaurants I told the waiter we had very high expectations after hearing/reading the raving reviews. When the waiter delivered the check at the end of the meal he asked if they passed our test. My response: "with flying colors." It was tough to choose from the tasty looking menu, but my party of 3 decided on quite a seafood fest. Appetizers: Ahi tuna (a special of the evening). I was supposed to be sharing this with my husband, but it was too good for me to let him have more than a few bites. The peppered crust also made it VERY spicy so my mouth was on fire for the duration of the meal. Some sort of curry soup for my husband that was nice and light tasting. And the crab cakes for my father-in-law, which were also a special of the evening and absolutely delish. Entrees: My husband and I split the trout and cod. It's hard to say, which I preferred since both were so fresh and tasty, but I really enjoyed the squash that came with the trout. I probably would have also enjoyed the mashed potatoes that came with my cod, but my husband wasn't very good at sharing those...he was probably getting revenge for my selfishness with the ahi tuna! And speaking of ahi tuna my father-in-law ordered this nice sized appetizer for his entree...he was smart enough to cut off the crust to avoid his mouth burning off. We all licked our plates clean! Dessert: Our eyes went right to the carrot cake. And what a great piece of carrot cake it was- perfect frosting, perfect cake, and a perfect scoop of ice cream! CK's...culinary kudos indeed!

Yelp
I would point out that the food is probably a little bit on the overpriced side. I would not drive from Ketchum to Haley to eat here but if passing through, it's a good choice. Recently, several of my friends had dinner there and twice in a row they found the service to be horrible relative to the price. Additionally, their meals were not prepared as specified.
google avatar

Resa M.

Yelp
Best food ever and wonderful service. Cute little building with a pretty patio to have dinner. My favorite is the Idaho trout. Definitely a wonderful little restruant that you do not want to miss if visiting the Sun Valley area. On Main St. in Hailey Idaho.
google avatar

Patricia C.

Yelp
This place did not live up to my expectations. Sorry folks. The building is visually beautiful on the outside and the clientele inside all looked very classy as did the staff. Very dark inside. Sadly we left after ordering an appetizer of oysters on the half shell. They were the most anemic looking things I'd ever seen. Not even a dozen. We were served 8. If this were my restaurant I'd have said sorry we are sold out. Just saying. The grocery stores all have normal size fresh oysters so I'm not sure why we couldn't get any. Bummer.
google avatar

Dan C.

Yelp
My wife & I went to Sun Valley for the weekend to celebrate our 21st anniversary, with CK's as our most indulgent meal. It was wonderful. The service was very good, but the meal even better. My wife Loved her beet salad and Rack of Lamb entree, while I thoroughly enjoyed my shrimp (huge) cocktail & Fresh fish of the day: Halibut (always a fave). All in all a terrific meal in a romantic venue - it did not disappoint. Thank you CK's for a lovely meal & evening.
google avatar

Alexis S.

Yelp
The food was really good. I had the lamb shank, a salad and a scoop of ice cream. The hot fudge on the ice cream wasn't hot and they forgot the taffy crumbles that was stated on the menu but oh well. I wanted to commend the hostess that night that is a server as well. Her name was Katie. She definitely saved the other lovely server who seemed to need ALOT of help. Katie is a multi tasker and I REALLY hope the owners know this. She saved the restaurant a lot of unhappy clients. The food was sitting at the chef's kitchen for way too long. Thankfully for them the plates are hot. Anyway, kudos to you Katie. I hope you are treated well.
google avatar

Liz R.

Yelp
We had been at a wedding, and left before the cake cutting, so we were craving dessert. We've never gone out for "just dessert" before. We sat in the bar and ordered 2 cocktails, a lime pie and chocolate cake. Can I just say that their dessert game is on another level? So delicious! The cocktails were also meticulously prepared and presented by the super nice and skilled bartender. Thanks for being so awesome CK's!
google avatar

R. B.

Yelp
Seriously overpriced and the entrees don't come with sides. Don't order the broccoli pancakes. Great atmosphere and wait staff, but don't think we will be going back, as we were disappointed with the food.

L'Anne G.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in the valley! Excellent menu and service and lovely atmosphere. The food is locally sourced and of the highest quality and the bartender makes great cocktails. If you are in Ketchum and visiting town, I recommend taking the 20 minutes to drive south for dine here.

Sara S.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in the Sun Valley area! I went here with a couple locals that recommended the restaurant -- it did not disappoint. Our server, Janine, was SUPER professional. She was never intrusive & was able to describe all of the dishes we asked about. I had some dietary restrictions, she wasn't awkward about it which is always annoying... We each had an appetizer, entree, side & dessert. The Cajun Trout was out of this world. It tasted fresh & the tartar sauce had a beautifully balanced flavor & texture. The others also thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Cocktails were on point, wine selection BTG was decent. Dessert was absolutely delicious, I appreciated the variety of options. I had the lime pie with a glass of sherry that Janine recommended. Experience was perfect from the moment we stepped in the door until we left. Highly recommend for both their hospitality and delicious food. This will be my go-to place when I'm in the area.
google avatar

Laura S.

Yelp
This was great! Loved the ambiance, the staff and the food, especially the vegan and gluten free lemon creme Burle... would definitely visit again.
google avatar

Dave E.

Yelp
First time at Ck's.. Excellent service. Great food- oysters, beat salad and chopped salad are too notch. Our group was not a big fan of the special- squash blossoms with goat cheese. Dinners that were the favorite - salmon, flat iron and roasted chicken. Desserts were amazing.
google avatar

Candy C.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious food! The service was great, but truly we loved the atmosphere food and wine. We couldn't have picked an item wrong off the menu. We started with gluten free bread, gluten free Mac and cheese with bacon. For the main dish we had a lobster risotto and their rack of lamb. The lobster risottos was to die for and so generous on the amount of lobster in the dish. We finished the night off with a ginger beer float, so creative and delicious. Definitely will return and refer friends!
google avatar

Elise D.

Yelp
This is truly a great place! The food is creative and delicious and you may try some new combination of flavors when you visit. The gardens are amazing and if the weather is good sitting outside is a real pleasure. The staff here go the extra mile to make you feel welcome, at home and enjoy your visit. Don't miss this spot if you are visiting the Wood River Valley.
google avatar

Magnum P.

Yelp
Yes it was pricey. Yes it was good. Farm to table with the local glitterati. Expected more, but it was still very good. The outdoor seating added to the ambiance. I would recommend the slow cooked meat dishes.

Debbie E.

Yelp
Our first time here certainly did not disappoint! Their patio is shaded and ruined with beautiful flowers and greenery. The menu was inventive with several options that made it difficult to hoose just one dish. All food is housemate, which adds to the flavorful quality. Each bite was a delight!
google avatar

Megan A.

Yelp
I'd give CK's ten stars if I could! Ambiance= ten stars, friendly service=ten stars and food= ten stars! We had squash blossoms and crab cakes to start, both amazing! The fresh catch was a wild salmon with local corn and fresh pesto. Did not disappoint. Neither did the homemade carrot cake! I love CK's!
google avatar

Keith A.

Yelp
Heard that this place was the Shiznit. I can most assuredly say that it isn't. I ordered the rib eye. It was thinner than I would like and way over cooked. I like medium rare. This was almost well done. They also forgot part of my order. Otherwise the service was good.

Fair W.

Yelp
Ambiance:5 Wait staff adorable:5 Ricotta-stuffed Zucchini blossoms:5 Rack of lamb:5 Prosecco:5 (D.O.C. Italian appellation) Concord grapes adorning entrance:5 I hope to be lucky enough to return to Hailey one day.

Jamie B.

Yelp
This is always such an excellent place to have a meal. The menu constantly changes according to what's fresh locally and cooked to perfection The owners, family and staff are simply the best. We always sit at the chefs counter and watch all the food being prepared as well as have great conversations with the chef and other staff. This is a resturant you always come back too.
google avatar

Shigeru Y.

Yelp
The food is good but dinner there is spendy. It is good if you like beef steaks or lamb. Their seafood dishes have been not so great to my taste although their seafood is fairly fresh. The waiters would explain the "specials", but those are actually more expensive than the ones on the menu ($35+ for the entree) so be aware. Some of the younger waitress are not really careful about the specific orders I made such as "no dairy product" for my dish since I am mildy allergic to them. However, the wine steamed clams (appetiser) had butter in it (I noticed it but I ate it without complaint), and the fried Kale which was substituted (original side had dairy) side had cheese in it. I complained about the cheese in the fried Kale to the waitress but she insisted that there was absolutely no dairy in it. But I can tell the difference of the cheese and garlic so I picked up the cheese piece and gave it to the manager on the floor, then they finally admitted that cheese was in. They apologized for it but they offered no discount nor free dessert or anything. In the past, they put tomato ketchup instead of raspberry sauce on the pena cotta by mistake. That time, I recall that no discount nor free dessert offered as well after I complained. I guess I had to complain harder? I think it is a standard courtesy to offer something if they made mistakes like that. But usually, the service is good so the stories like above are not the norm there. Good deal for the dinner is a slack time special which was $35 set menu for the dinner including appetiser, entree, and dessert. 40% off for the selected wines by a bottle. Their lunch is very reasonable and good too.
