"On an unassuming corner in Delaware County, the Original Clam Tavern throws it back with a menu straight out of the 1960s. Find broiled flounder, stuffed shrimp, fried oysters, and crab-topped everything. Baked clams with a dot of ketchup on each middleneck are a favorite at this come-as-you-are spot. A full bar features some sweet specialty cocktails." - Ernest Owens

SerpAPI
This is *the* place for a good seafood and steak dinner. Relaxed, old school charm….attentive service…and, exceptional food. What else could you want? We had a shrimp appetizer special, fried mozzarella, Caesar salads, NY Strip steaks with crab imperial, baked potato, and broccoli. Oh, and the bread! Steaks were a perfectly cooked medium. The raw oysters looked perfectly shucked - don’t miss them if you love oysters. Make reservations because they get busy…for good reason. Tony, the owner, is the best in the business - always doing whatever needs to be done: busing tables, greeting customers, singing happy birthday with his conch shell, and, I’m sure, working the line when when the kitchen gets busy.

Best clams I ever had. The baked clams were like nothing that I ever had before, and the clams casino were excellent as well. Tony, the owner, was very friendly and he shucked clams for us tableside and bought us an order of the clams casino to try. Staff was very friendly and the place is very clean and well taken care of. Can't wait to go back.

This place was so good the food was fresh and delicious a little high in price but it's worth it money well spent. It gets crowded so reservations is a must the drinks are good not watered down staff was nice table room was small but other then that I loved the food and can't wait to go back

What a hidden gem! This was my first time here and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Ordered the baked clams, New England clam chowder, crab balls and shrimp scampi. They were all very good! I can't wait to come back and try more things on the menu.

Excellent dinner at this old school Clifton Heights staple. Busy for a Friday night and we didn't have reservations so we opted for the bar which is first come first serve so if you want a table reservations are recommended. Bartender and barback provided us with phenomenal and attentive service. I ordered the filet special with mushrooms, crab, sun-dried tomatoes in a creamy marsala sauce and my husband got the ribeye. Both steaks were cooked to perfection and gave that perfect melt in your mouth bite. We will be back to the clam tavern. Old school divey vibes but with excellent food and service.

One of my favorite hidden gems! The food was amazing today as it is everyday. I’ve never had a dish from here that wasn’t up to par with my taste buds. The staff is very welcoming and I love that they help one another out! I wish I could remember my waitress from today 7/21 at around 4:00pm but she was a young American African woman and she was WONDERFUL!!! They customer service was top notch!

SerpAPI
One of the absolute best meals I have ever had in Philly. Walking in, you get the sense that this place hasn't changed since it opened in the 1960s. They even use the original menus as place mats with the original prices still listed! Although the cost of seafood has changed since then you won't regret a single penny spent at the Clam Tavern. The staff was attentive and wonderful, the drinks were sublime and the seafood was simply to die for. If you're looking for a classic and delicious way to spend an evening look no further.

What hasn't been said about the legendary Clam Tavern already? A Delco mainstay for decades, it was a date spot for my parents when we'd visit my grandparents in Media and Collingdale (RIP Clam Tavern II). The baked clams are absolutely mandatory (I ordered 2 dozen), the steaks are A+ and the lobster tails are perfectly sweet. The bartender mixed a delicious Moscow Mule which I ordered on a whim (I'm a beer guy). Girlfriend loved the coleslaw and I'm never disappointed by their baked potatoes. I always bring a cup of their New England clam chowder home to compliment whatever is in my doggy bag the next day.

Yelp
I've had this spot bookmarked for years and finally I made it. Parking can be tricky but I got lucky with a spot. You walk in and your hit with the beautiful smells of garlic, herbs and seafood. No fishy scent at all but a welcoming savory scent pulls you in. I sat at the bar which had a beautiful copper counter top. Staff was super friendly and attentive. I ordered a half dozen of raw oysters which were divine as well as their baked clams. The bread was perfect to sop up the yummy crab juice in the shells filled with herbs and garlic. Not overly breaded so you really enjoy the fresh clams. I also ordered to take home a seafood soup and the halibut sandwich which I got fried or you can get broiled. It came with coleslaw, fries and lettuce and tomatoes and a yummy wasabi mayo type sauce. The piece of the mahi mahi was twice the size of the bun and for $13.99 you can't go wrong. Fried are dusted with old bay and na nice crisp. Nothing overly oily at all and all well seasoned. I foresee myself being a regular here!

Yelp
According to some friends, the Clam Tavern has been a neighborhood staple in Media, PA for 50 years. Famous for its baked clams, this place was packed on a Sunday night! This is a family owned restaurant and serves dishes, family style. With dishes so flavorful you will not leave hungry. I have been here twice in the past month and can't wait to come back!

Alessandra C.

Yelp
Food was excellent as always. Got the filet this time - cut like butter. Definitely recommend getting it oscar style it was delicious!

Allison B.

Yelp
So glad we made this impromptu stop. We were immediately greeted with kind smiles and quickly sat at the bartop as we requested. The baked clams were hot and delicious. The perfect light appetizer before our entrees. The lobster ravioli topped with crab was served hot and aldente. I tried my companion's crab imperial stuffed flounder and it was equally delicious. Each staff member was friendly and the owner was genuinely vested in ensuring we had a great visit. I'm only sad I don't live closer to be able to enjoy this meal more often!

Michael S.

Yelp
We went to the Clam as a party of 8 for my kids bday. It was awesome. Apps, entrees, drinks, and service were all excellent. Delco landmark!!!

Christine C.

Yelp
Finally getting around to write a review of this great spot! Warm and cozy atmosphere decorated in ship theme. I always say I'm going to try something new and different but I'm mildly obsessed with the filet special that comes with jumbo lump crab, sundried tomatoes, and mushrooms in a Marsala sauce. It is addictive and should leave you with leftovers the next day. Baked clams as an app are a must. You can't go wrong with anything on this menu! Make sure to make a reservation and leave enough time to find parking.

Jeremy L.

Yelp
You can't go wrong with the Clam Tavern. This is a place that as soon as you walk in you feel like you're stepping back in time with the comfortable atmosphere. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. The food is consistently fantastic and there is really nothing on the menu that will disappoint.

JM T.

Yelp
For some reason I always forget about this gem. Every time I come to the Clam Tavern I am amazed how delicious their food is. Baked clams a must. Love Clam Taverns specials 6 0z. Lobster, Filet with sundries tomatoes in a marsla wine sauce & Ribeye.

Shannon M.

Yelp
Solid meal every time I go here, Such great specials, awesome service and nautical vibes. The prices are great for seafood! Last time I went I got an angel hair pasta with shrimp and crab meat in this amazing Cajun sauce. Can't wait to go back!

Carmen W.

Yelp
I came here with my family who live in the area to celebrate being together. I had wanted to come here for a couple of years but never had enough time to. We came in on a Monday evening and the place was packed I realized this place was popular among the locals so I had made reservations so we did not have to wait to get a table. Walking in this place reminded me of an old school supper club. There was a bar and more than one room with tables. My group sat in the main area. We ordered a range of food from crab balls to clams casino for appetizers and steak, Chilean sea bass, flounder, lobster and lobster ravioli. I had the broiled flounder which was cooked perfectly but was under seasoned. I took a bite of the sea bass and it was my favorite thing and I wished my flounder had the same seasoning on it. I almost forgot the clam chowder I had to get extra to go because it was so delicious. Overall we all left happy and I'd stop in again. FYI this place is in a neighborhood that doesn't have a bunch of street parking but just a block away there is a huge parking lot that you can use.

Sarah S.

Yelp
Delicious meal and good service. Pretty busy seems to be the usual so make a reservation! My first time and I definitely left planning my next visit. Crabs are a great price for how great they were which is nice to see. I would love to come back with my husband for a date night.

Todd C.

Yelp
Another amazing journey to The Original Clam Tavern from West Chester Leah the bartender service was AWESOME on this very busy Wednesday night The Baked Clams & Clams Casino were off the charts delicious But the star of the night was the Chilian Sea Bass Special with a side of linguine

Linda B.

Yelp
My daughter and I really wanted a good seafood restaurant and after checking out reviews on line, including Eater, decided to try the Clam Tavern, especially as we had to go first to Target at Springfield Mall ( that is really one the of best Targets in the counties) and is nearby. The tavern is amazing. Everyone was super nice and friendly. Service was super. The food was great. My daughter lover her oysters and Chesapeake Chicken. My clams and Lobster Fra diabolo were amazing. The sauce on the pasta was the best I have had in years. Parking is in a lot down the block, which worked out ok, even though I have mobility issues. I loved the amibiance as I hate pretentious restaurants. This place is a real find.

Greg C.

Yelp
I have been coming here for over 50 years. We now drive 45 minutes to get here. We arrived late, were seated immediately. DeAnna took our order and our food was served fast and hot. The baked clams are to die for. Highly recommended!

Phyllis L.

Yelp
Been craving for a good clam chowder and my husband took me here. I've had quite a lot of clam chowder in my life and this place has by far the best clam chowder i've ever had hands down. Came back three more times for the clam chowder and to try other things of course. The food is okay, little heavy handed on the salt for all other foods i've had except for the clam chowder. Would probably tell them less salt in the future since now I know. Customer service so far has always been 10/10, super nice and attentive. Would def keep coming back but tell them less salt on everything lol

Melissa R.

Yelp
It's been several years since we've been to The Original Clam Tavern, but I remember liking the old fashioned feel of the place. Sure enough, when we walked in, it still had an old-time feel with seashore decor and old menus with the original prices. We started with their dozen baked clams which they've won awards for. They almost had the texture of oysters on a half shell with a slight crispiness from being baked. The herbs and lemon added to their delicious taste. The crab imperial, their own original recipe, was creamy and came with a variety of sides to choose from. My husband enjoyed the 1/2 pound Black Angus burger which came with fries topped with Old Bay seasoning while my daughter said the shrimp scampi was just ok. The shrimp was good, but the pasta didn't have a lot of flavor. Once our food came out, our server dropped off the check without us having the opportunity to order coffee or dessert. We felt like she was finished with us even though it didn't seem as though they needed to turn over the table.

Kathy V.

Yelp
This was my first time here and everything was delicious. I got intimate with a fish. They were a little busy so we had to wait a little white but the drinks were nice and I enjoyed my food.

Michael M.

Yelp
Been there many times over the years. Very old fashioned and cozy. So many seafood classics. Elegant simplicity. Very affordable. Cannot recommend more.

Richard L.

Yelp
We love this place! The food and service are always great. This is my go to restaurant when friends and family are in town.

Braheim R.

Yelp
Good food and delco atmosphere my mother had her late husband's tribute here I believe it's family own they been around for generations definitely recommend if your in the area

Yelp
I would like to personally congratulate the owner, Tony, on being the single reason why this is NOT getting a decent review. We arrived for a party on Saturday, with a reservation for a large group. Unfortunately, due to the weather, not everyone was going to make it, but the hostess in the group (celebrating her birthday), let the servers know in the beginning that not everyone would be there, and mentioned it would probably be about 12 instead of 20. (We cannot control the weather or other people.) It would have been possible at that time to remove some tables from our group, but it wasn't until a little while later that they did take one of the tables away. Even up until we were almost done, there were 3 other people who were supposedly on their way. I do not know them, and I do not know at this point whether or not they'd had an accident, or whatever reason may have kept them from joining us. Fast forward 2-2.5 hours; we had eaten, we enjoyed ourselves, and the servers had been attentive. We already had our to-go containers and were only waiting for the check at that point. Then Tony - who hadn't shown his face up until this point - basically lays into us for "not following the rules," and that we were seated without the whole party being there (*not the guest's fault*) and they need us to go so we could free up the tables for other guests. Look, I get it. It's a Saturday, probably your busiest night, and it's a tiny spot, so space is at a premium, BUT we were LITERALLY about to pay ($500+) and go and he not only embarrassed the hostess, but he made an absolute spectacle while doing it. Everyone was uncomfortable. The guests, the servers, other diners. But when I mentioned he could have handled it better, he not only agreed with me, but he also then DOUBLED DOWN on being a tool and escalated the situation to the point that the gentlemen in our group each got up to speak their minds as well. In ALL of my years in restaurants and management, I have NEVER spoken to a guest/customer in that manner, even if they deserved some sort of reprimand, and I would never have allowed another manager to speak to a guest that way. I guess being the owner makes Tony exempt from basic decency. In hospitality, it is one thing to get a customer in the door, but it is another to keep them coming back. Some of the party attendees were repeat customers, but I guarantee you, none of us will ever return here again. I'm sure he'll have something to say about this. He's the type of narcissistic person that will not admit to their wrongdoing and will continue to double down on how he was right and we were wrong. (And shall we throw in the fact that most of the table was not your color? I'm sure it could have been different if we'd all been the same shade.) Tony, I hope you are happy with the fact that your awful behavior affected way more than just a couple of people that night. Have the day you deserve.

Kiera D.

Yelp
Probably some of the best seafood dishes in delco - one time they had a special of a nice cut of steak topped with lobster and it was incredible. Always a reliable good meal and ambiance. Service is great

Veronica K.

Yelp
Yum! It's expensive but worth it. It kind of feels like a hole in the wall but that adds to the ambiance. If you want a seat on a weekend I suggest making reservations because even the bar fills up quickly. Their menu has obviously been perfected over the years, and you can get a number of surf or turf items. That being said I suggest sticking to the surf. Everything is high quality and well cooked. I love the crab imperial here! My husband said his pasta and clams was one of the best versions he'd ever had. Did I mention this is a great place for date night? It's cozy and kitschy, and be bartenders here are great. I love this place and wish I could go more often!

Stephanie J.

Yelp
Nestled in a quaint neighborhood, Clifton Heights own treasure is absolutely fabulous, drinks , good & service , 5 stars

Christophwr G.

Yelp
Love LOVE LOVE this place. The food and the atmosphere is beautiful. The seafood is some of the best seafood I've ever tasted

Megan O.

Yelp
Food was so freaking good and our waitress Grace was so helpful and kind! I had the surf and turf with the 10 oz strip and lobster tail and then the cheesecake, everything was so good

Leslye C.

Yelp
I've been eating there since I was in college... it is still a quality place... You will love the food and portions.

Francis C.

Yelp
We used to come here often. Goes back to before we had kids. They are 30 and 35 now and still like coming back. Brings back fond memories. The food is awesome. I still haven't tried everything, but I intend to. Kaitlin did a great job the other night. A fine example of the 5 star service you get here. The place brings back so many memories but the décor does not look over 30 years old and run down. It looks homey! Can't wait for our next visit.

Margie M.

Yelp
My family usually picks here for their birthday dinners but not to say that we also do a random Wednesday night either. I grew up in Secane so I've known this place my entire life an even though this is a new (not really) owner it has never skipped a beat.

Jim H.

Yelp
From the minute we arrived we were greeted and sat our waitress Wendy, she was excellent, I had the clam chowder which was excellent. My wife had the clams casino that was excellent too. She has a stuffed shrimp, with the thick cut french fries with old bay seasoning, which were excellent and I had to fillet which was very delicious and cooked the way I wanted it with baked potato. Service and food were fantastic. I would return highly recommend.

Mari D.

Yelp
Great food and service. Been around for years! Would definitely recommend this place! We went for my birthday and it was fantastic

Chris D.

Yelp
Definitely a neighborhood gem. Ate there this evening. I had crab cakes, she had crab imperial. Both had lots of chunky crab meat. Additional ingredients were well-balanced and did not take away from the crab. Sides were included and generous. Showed up at 6 without a reservation. We were seated quickly, but the place was definitely very busy. We'll be back for sure.

Clara W.

Yelp
I mostly come here during happy hour for their raw clams or oysters. I did patronizes them a couple times for dinner. All times the food was good and the drinks for happy hour are also great.

bryan g.

Yelp
A great place for dinner . Great food prices and service ! A not so hidden gem. I highly recommend

William W.

Yelp
Food , Service , and Ambiance The Clam Tavern Gets 5 Stars in all categories . I always get the Salmon Oscar it's the best, Also love the crab cakes

Nancy ..

Yelp
I can't decide whether the baked clams, lobster, steak special or the crab imperial is my favorite! Every dish is wonderful. you really do feel like family at the Clam Tavern!

Albert G.

Yelp
I love the food, and the prices are not too bad especially for appetizers. I have found that the portions do not seem to be consistent depending on when you go and how busy they are. Their drinks are reasonably priced and they serve Rolling Rock, my favorite beer. Great old world ambience. Great staff. Easy parking.

Michelle P.

Yelp
A very friendly place . Very nice . Great food for years I love the baked clams. I came here with my parents when I was younger. That's about 30 plus years ago . Not sure how long they've been open. Also great atmosphere. The place always seems busy. Go check it out for yourself you won't be disappointed.

H X.

Yelp
5 out of 5 enough said. Was busy & food came out quickly, server was nice. Little on the louder side but nothing intolerable. The food is an 11 out of 10.

Tameka T.

Yelp
I go here EVERY FREAKING WEEK! Went to BROADWAY'S!!!!(also owned by clam tavaren) FOOD EXCELLENCE! SERVICE SUPERB! This evening, service was ok! I am a African American Woman, hear me out I never felt out of place there!!!! The owner Supa Dupa Nice & welcoming! Total Safe Space for me & my girls & family! New Waitress, obviously! never seen Before! Took forever for her to simply acknowledge we had been seated & to take our order Finally, ordered! Little glitchled! I get that! Sh*t happens! No worries! Get the bill, ok cool! Tip $35 on a less than $100 bill! She won't even bring us bags! for leftovers! Everytime I would try to get her attention, she would not give eye contact as she walked the restaurant eating her wings! After all , football was on we had to ask some else for bags! I never leave reviews, this was totally unacceptable! Tend to My family & I as you tend to other patrons! Tighten up! My daughter said take her picture! No! She's just a torn on a stem! This place is the whole Rose Garden, u don't through a flower away because of a thorn

Sylvia F.

Yelp
Wonderful experience ! Great service and seafood was spot on. Recommend for anytime of the week and casual occasions. Accommodating to our needs. Fast service.

Krista K.

Yelp
Spaghetti & crab so good!!! you get such large portions, the red and the white is absolutely phenomenal spaghetti with shrimp & scallops, lemon butter phenomenal. I think everything I've ever had here is top notch.

Katie D.

Yelp
To put it simply, I'm a clam fanatic. So when I discovered that this place existed, I made a reservation as soon as possible. I highly recommend calling and making one because it was packed in there on a Saturday night! Totally worth it though. The whole ambience of the place is classic. My MIL said that they haven't changed it since she went there in high school, talk about authentic. Of course we ordered the famous baked clams and I think I could've eaten two trays to myself. They were amazing. The flavor was savory and just perfect. You absolutely have to get them if you go if you're missing out. As for entrees, they're all huge where you'll have plenty for left overs. I got the crab cake sandwich which was probably one of the best crab cakes I've ever had. So much crab with enough seasoning that the taste was great. Also, beware of the conch shell they blow for people's birthdays, totally caught us off guard.

Iman T.

Yelp
That place was so good! Everything! appetizers, meal and service! Got the crab balls, clams, steak, lobster ravioli, and tuna steak (family dinner, I didn't eat all that by myself). Everyone loved the place and the food!

Mallory D.

Yelp
Boyfriend and I absolutely loved our meal here! It was definitely out of the way for us city kids but worth the ride for sure. The baked clams are a must here. Very delicious especially with a little dash of lemon and hot sauce. We both got a cup of chowder too which was very clammy and delicious. The entrees here are just amazing. Also I love the option for all the little add ins like crab cakes lobster tail etc. the night we went I got a special which was a filet in Marsala sauce with mushrooms and sundried tomatoes. It was just as good if not better than any steak house steak I've ever had. The lobster tail I added on pushed it right over the top. Boyfriend got a ribeye Pittsburg style and added crab cakes and he was a very happy man. This restaurant, while unassuming and off the beaten path, should not be slept on!

Trish L.

Yelp
Hidden Delco gem. I've been going since I was a kid. Great food, friendly staff, too!

Laura D.

Yelp
A friend & I came here for dinner last minute. Parking isn't the easiest as they're one of three businesses in a residential area. This place is actually a hidden gem. The prices are little high but worth it. The food was amazing. I had clams casino. Amazing! Moist (like they should be) flavor but not overpowering. I also had the bisque soup. Again, great flavor and not heavy. The bread went perfectly with it. My friend got the stuffed shrimp and it's the first time I've seen her finish a dish. She really enjoyed them. She had the baked potato and said it was made well. We will definitely go back.

Michael W.

Yelp
Never had a bad meal here. The Salmon Oscar is my absolute favorite. Atmosphere is cozy and service is always amazing.

Ja'Niece D.

Yelp
The FOOD was EXCEPTIONAL! Couldn't give 5 stars due to our server being very flat and not the most welcoming! But the greatness of the food well made up for her disposition!!! I can't wait to go back! A definite must if you're dining in DELCO!!!

John L.

Yelp
This place has been on my bucket list based on articles I've read and it did not disappoint. Very old school inside with dark wooden paneled walls throughout, some fish tanks and an older bar area. We sat in the back by the kitchen and were comfortable room wise for a table of 3. The waitress was very nice and prompt. The place was packed for dinner on a Monday night. Looked like a lot of locals and you could hear everyone ordering fish apps or entrees so you know you're in the right place! For an app we ordered the baked clams which are a staple here and the crab balls. The clams were fresh, buttery, little salty but were fantastic. Good portion to share and they were nicely seasoned. I could have eaten the entire tray. The crab balls were full of crab meat and were well put together. None of the apps lasted long and the bread they put out was very fresh and great to soak up the clam juice as one yelper recommended For my entree I had the crab imperial, rich, creamy and full of crab meat with a little kick and nicely seasoned. I tore it up and the baked potato and broccoli were great sides to go with it. I really enjoyed my visit and my co workers loved every bite. Three people with entrees soups and apps for around $100 is a win in my book.
