Chicago Restaurant and Bar Openings to Know, July 2025 | Eater Chicago
"An intimate basement lounge sits below Matilda: Clandestino offers a selection of classic cocktails, including the Old Fashioned, pisco sour, and Last Word; it’s from Éxodo Hospitality Group, which is behind Chicago restaurants Kayao and Ayayay." - Jeffy Mai
Ayayay, a Mexican restaurant with Peruvian accents, to open in the Loop | Eater Chicago
"A speakeasy-style bar slated to open beneath the River North restaurant, intended to complement the upstairs dining room with a more intimate, hidden cocktail environment; the space is being designed by the same designer handling the group’s other openings and will tie into the overall beverage program created for the group." - Ashok Selvam
Was super easy to find come inside and you will see the entrance. Very sexy vibe. Small but great music. I love the lights. Wait to you come and experience it. The drinks were good. The Pina colada was a must try. Definitely a unique cocktail. I loved the lychee martini. The pisco sour could use some sprucing. It’s my favorite all time drink and I wouldn’t order it here. The drink is so beautiful and it felt not crafted very well.

Clandestino is a wonderful spot with great energy, delicious food, and a team that truly cares. Huge thanks to Gil for adding a special touch to our night with his kindness and warm spirit. Moments like these are what make celebrations truly memorable.
Wishing all the best to everyone at Clandestino!

The two security guards at the door was very rude and unprofessional. They made the line to get into the lounge chaotic because they weren't on the same page. They made it so difficult to get in when it shouldn't have been that hard. I was with a group of 11 and we were looking forward to patronizing the new speakeasy, but due to their offensive language and horrible service we left immediately to check out another bar. The place could have been amazing but they left such a bad impression and ruined the whole experience. On a Saturday night and in that area I suggest changing the staff.

Dark and moody cocktail spot. From pushing open the hidden entrance, being surrounded by music, to the stairs lit up on your assent to the street level. Such a vibe.

So please believe me when i tell you this is a piña colada and one of the best I've ever had!! So light and thoughfully put together- all the fun of the beach without the heaviness on the tummy 😍
All in all, really enjoyed Clandestino! I came down after having dinner with my family at Matilda. I was so impressed! The entire staff was very friendly and kind. I came down sola and they were quick to be friendly and help find something I liked. I had some great conversations with these lovely people. This place had a really intimate, delicious vibe. I recommend it to chill with friends/ date night or for a night cap! Cheers!

Such a swanky speakeasy. Drinks were great. Wish they had more drink options though. But the vibes here are super nice. Good for first date impressions for sure

The burger was very good. It's too dark for a resturant and wait time was about an hour.

Ahh! This used to be Marchesa, remember that! This is part of the Exodo group, which is behind Matilda, Ayayay and Kayao. I had the Be Mine Tangerine cocktail. The staff and service are terrific.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this bar, the ambiance was perfect but the music was terrible and vibe was just off. The drinks were decent, bartenders were great and it wasn't crowded, but there's a lot of potential to make it better!

Yelp
Incredible drinks and a very cool ambiance at this bar which reminded me of a blend between a modern Latin and European speakeasy. Highly recommend!

Yelp
It's far from a speakeasy. It's just a lame bar in the basement of a restaurant. What's even worse is that it's in River North, you know the area where the shooting just happened. Save your time and money and just skip this dead area of Chicago. You're better off going to Fulton Market. It's safer nicer and oddly less pretentious than this bar.
