We drove all the way from the South Bay just to try Clandestino, and let me tell you—it was absolutely worth the trip and the wait! When we arrived, the wait time was over an hour, but once we sat down, every dish we ordered made it more than worth it.
I can be indecisive when it comes to food, so I loved that the chilaquiles flight came with both red and green chilaquiles plus the most flavorful rib eye. The rib eye was tender, perfectly cooked, and paired beautifully with the sauces.
We also shared appetizers: the pork belly bites and shrimp lollipops. The shrimp were glazed with a sweet and spicy chipotle aioli—such a unique and tasty bite, and perfect for our group since there were five of us. The pork belly bites were crisp on the outside, melt-in-your-mouth on the inside, and topped with a honey Sriracha sauce that had the perfect balance of sweet heat. The serrano dipping sauce on the side was just as delicious.
For something sweet, we tried the tres leches pancakes. They were fluffy, rich, and had a fun flavor that reminded me of Fruity Pebbles cereal—such a nostalgic twist.
The ambiance here is beautiful, modern, and inviting. There’s both indoor and outdoor seating. Since we went on a hot day, the sun was right on us outside, but the staff went above and beyond to make us comfortable. They moved umbrellas around for extra shade and even placed fans nearby to keep us cool. Their kindness and attentiveness really stood out.
Overall, Clandestino is definitely worth the drive and the wait. From the amazing food to the welcoming staff and modern vibe, this spot is a gem. Highly recommend!
