The Best Montreal Bars and Cafés With Air-Conditioning | Eater Montreal

"Sometimes Montreal’s balmy summer weather calls for an afternoon a sunny terrasse, and other times it calls for a basement hideaway: for the latter category, there’s Clandestino, a cool underground (literally) mezcal and tequila bar. Clandestino doesn’t open until 7 p.m., but with Montreal’s summer nights sometimes staying above 25, there’s no time limit on the need for a chilled out, dark escape." - Holly Tousignant

"Opened by the Venice crew in Old Montreal last year, Clandestino is a tequila and mezcal tasting bar that the planned rum bar aims to resemble." - Tim Forster

12 ‘Hidden’ Montreal Bars To Know | Eater Montreal

"This plush, cavernous space is hidden away beneath beachy Old Montreal restaurant Venice and its next-door bar Boho. Hope you like Mexican spirits, since tequila and mezcal are the focus here with over 100 private imports on hand — get them in tasting flights or in cocktail form. Those not interested in cactus- and agave-based spirits should probably remain upstairs at Boho." - Carla Bragagnolo

A beautifully hidden gem! I was excited to try this speakeasy bar, and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was unique and intimate, making it a perfect spot for a special night out. The bartender was incredibly knowledgeable and offered thoughtful recommendations. While I don’t have much experience with tequila or mezcal, I genuinely enjoyed trying their curated selections—it was a great introduction to both. I’d definitely come back!

Great little hidden cocktail bar. We came across this spot and decided to stop in for a drink. We sat up at the bar and Shelby was our bartender, he was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. He gave us the idea to do a tequila tasting which we opted for. Shelby put together a tasting flight with different citruses, salts and even crickets that go well with the tequilas. We had an amazing experience and will for sure return when we are back in Montreal.

My friends from out of town and I really enjoyed this intimate speakeasy. All the drinks were good. My favorite was the colada with curry based horchata (sounds funny but sooo worth it). The bartender/owner was kind and easy to talk to. Music was also great.

Had the best spicy margarita of all time here. Talk with the doorman, go behind a painting and down some stairs to this bar with amazing cocktails and allegedly the largest offering of mezcals in Canada. Hope to come back someday for a mezcal flight!

This is the peak speakeasy experience and my favorite in all of Montreal. Their specialization in tequila and mezcal is so exceptional that even those that don’t enjoy tequila or mezcal will appreciate the menu. I came here years ago and was blown away by the quality of the cocktail, extensive tequila and mezcal selection, environment, and fantastic service. We come back every summer and always have a great experience - and you will too. (Can you tell I love cocktails?)

These are chemists in here granting wishes and making dreams come true beyond your wildest imagination. Please allow them to wow you with their gifts… Legends… nothing else can describe their skillls but that word.

Such an amazing spot. The cocktails / mocktails are so good! Thanks to Shelby and David for their incredible skills and knowledge. The atmosphere is cozy, the music is great and it has its own unique vibe. Defenitely coming back here!
