Should have read the reviews. Should have asked to see the room before we paid for it. Should have noticed the cancellation policy from the third party booking as I would've canceled immediately. Original room price was $101, but fees and taxes bumped it up to $141!! Value provided? Not half that. This is a $55. room at best.
Hotel is under renovation and there are certain areas you can't get into. This is not mentioned anywhere on their website although when questioned, the Desk Clerk said it was. Any recent reviews that are giving a 5/5 are suspected bots. Ignore them.
Notes: Room # 159 Outside Security door was broken so anyone from the street can enter 24/7. We mentioned this to the desk clerk and he said he would report it. We have a feeling it's been broken for a long time. The tiled floor and hallway carpets were filthy and the doors to the rooms looked like gray steel prison doors. Not kidding. It was a creepy feeling. There is one ice machine located in the lobby area but you cannot go through the hotel to get there. You have to go across the parking lot because of the renovations taking place. Our room did not have an ice bucket, we had to request one.
Room had a terrible odor of cleaner or possibly exterminator spray (?) based on others' reviews of ants, mice and bedbugs. We had to open our window to try to air it out. The window track was absolutely filthy. Looked like it had never been cleaned.
For a newly renovated room, the furniture inside is not new. It has either been repainted or repaired. The draperies were far too long and covered the radiator style heater/cooler so they had to be all bunched up and folded onto the windowsill in order to get airflow. The heating/cooling system itself did not have a safety grate cover, and was very dirty inside so what are we breathing in??
The bedding appeared to be fairly new, which was a good thing, but the mattresses were not. They're old and mine was a bit lumpy. The sheets were not deep enough to completely fit under the mattress. Also, on my bed underneath the sheet, I could see a long black hair which I chose to leave because I didn't want to touch it.
The bathroom toilet paper had about 10 squares left on it and should've been replaced before we arrived. The toilet paper itself is so thin that you need to use triple the normal amount!! The body lotion tube was half empty, indicating it had been used by a previous guest and never replaced. The shower curtains had stains on the inside of them that looked like it might've been mold/mildew and there was no nonskid surface in the tub which was a bit slippery. The showerhead had a lot of lime buildup on it but worked OK however, you could not use the adjustable slider for different flows as it was stuck in place. The water temperature was fine and did not fluctuate as indicated in other reviews.
The towels are very thin, worn and small. There was one face cloth, two hand towels, 3 bath towels and no bath mat. We requested and received extras and were told to use a towel as the bathmat. There were no extra pillows or blankets in the room.
There were two light switches in the bathroom shower area, but only one functioned, which turned on both the light and the fan which was so loud and noisy that I did not turn it on in the morning for fear of waking up other guests in the hotel. The other switch was supposedly to turn on the heat lamp, but because it was just screw end pushing out of the wall and not an actual switch, it did not work.
There was one lamp in the room between the two beds, but no lamp in the area deemed to be a desk. I requested an extra lamp for the room, but was not provided with one. On the side of each bed is a gooseneck reading light - neither one worked. When I called the desk to let them know, he said he was going to come and fix it because it was just a loose connection, but he never showed up.
The Internet WiFi is 100% USELESS. We were told to log in to the Clarion - a next-door hotel, so I guess we're stealing it from them - but it didn't work anyway, the signal was too weak so basically, there is No free Internet at this hotel.
The TV guide information bears no resemblance to the station on any channels and some channels do not have an adequate signal to provide the picture or sound.
Based on other reviews, we skipped breakfast and instead picked up a McDonald's Egg McMuffin and a Starbucks coffee
We will never stay here again. Note to owner: don't bother apologizing. Nobody believes you anymore.
