Stopped in here for a quick meal and drinks. I had the Hugo's Delight and my friend had the smoke house wrap. The bartender was also the waitress and she handled the whole place with ease. I was incredibly impressed. It was pretty busy when we went. Old town Irish pub decor in a historic building. Super charming and authentic.

Google
Sheesh. how the mighty have fallen. to be fair, I last visited in 1994. Clarke's for lunch w the mushroom cheeseburger was fantastic. Now? Frozen pattie. Dry bun. cheese was barely melted. they closed restaurant part. now it's pub food but it's awful. no wonder no one was in there but finance bros. there wasn't a single female customer. back in the day, happy hour at Clarke's was legendary. the outside fights even better. dont listen to anyone who says food is good.

Google
The food was so good. I love the way they do their fries. Our waitress was really sweet.

Google
Great place for weekday hangouts. Staff was super super friendly and even took care of my drunk friend. Iv never seen that happen anywhere. Good food and nice collection of drinks.

Google
Great food, great atmosphere, and the staff was wonderful. A hidden gem in the Quincy Market area... it's tucked away down an alley off of the main area and not easily visible. Old fashioned pub with bar, and it seemed mostly locals were in there which added to the overall friendly and welcoming experience. I prefer to avoid tourist-y restaurants whenever possible.

Google
Great selection of beers and the staff is awesome! Only $16 for a fish sandwich with Dublin fries. The sandwich was so big I thought it was a joke. Had to take a big piece of fish off the roll and eat it separately. Stuff was still falling off the roll in spite of this. Great value in historic Faneuil Hall Marketplace. Definitely check out out.

Google
Been craving another one of their burgers ever since I left! Had the mozzarella cheese sticks too - loved it there. The wait staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was ideal for a Boston pub!

Yelp
Walked in with a party of 7 at 3pm. No one else here. Service was fine. Food was okay. Had the buffalo chicken sandwich. Chicken was overcooked. Overall it was an okay meal.
google avatar

Yelp
A coworker and I ordered lunch here today outside of being extremely expensive it was a huge mistake. My salad had one piece of mozzarella, Hardly any dressing and unfortunately it was packaged On its side. So I had to scoop most of this out of a paper bag. The other salad had no salad dressing on it. No utensils no napkins If you cannot handle takeout then don't offer it. You should not treat a Take out order any differently than you would anybody sitting at the restaurant. I am in the customer service industry so please do not tell me it's because you're short staffed.

Yelp
Clarke's is located in a prime location right by Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market. It's one of those no frills type of bars perfect for grabbing a couple of drinks with coworkers over a burger or sandwich. I was seated in an area with only bar height seating surround by dark brown walls. It was not super busy when I went, which was on a Tuesday evening around dinner time. But then again, downtown Boston wasn't particularly busy at that time either. I got a cider and the chicken club sandwich. I think most of the burgers and sandwiches come with the Dublin fries, which was my favorite part of the meal. The circular pieces of potato were fried to golden perfection, and paired magnificently with the little packets of ketchup. Each bite provided just the right amount of crisp and softness. The chicken club sandwich was fine, it was served in a generous portion, with the slices of bread speared together with some toothpicks. I personally thought that the bread to sandwich filling ratio was a little high and would've preferred a more balanced ratio. There was so much food I had to pack half of my meal to go. If you're in the Boston downtown area and have a craving for fries, I'd recommend coming for the Dublin fries!

Michelle C.

Yelp
The owner of this establishment should be ashamed at the way they treat their customers. This place is money hungry the girls barely speak English and they are so rude I can't even explain the way I was treated. I came here on vacation but I will not let this horrible horrible experience judge Boston. They refused stop serve me a drink because I wasn't eating.

Yelp
We held a wedding reception at Clarke's and it was amazing. The food was great, drinks were ice cold and the service was phenomenal. I highly recommend Clarke's for anyone hosting a party or an event, or for a frosty beer after work. The absolute best!!
google avatar

Yelp
Cute place right outside of all the madness. Food was fine just a little different than what I'm used to. The lettuce in my salad was shredded which made it a bit challenging to eat. Was pretty surprised at how quiet it was considering it was a Saturday in the summer at lunch time. I may try if I'm in the area

Yelp
For the last 20 years I've been enjoying lunches at Clarke's. The steak tips and salad are as good as ever and everyone there is pleasant to interact with. Great service and quick turn around times let you get back to work on schedule even though I'd like to stick around and watch soccer or the NCAA tourney for a bit longer.

Michael C.

Yelp
Walked in on a Saturday trying to watch a college football game. Asked the bartender if they could change 1 of their 50 TVs, immediately sad no and walked away. Didn't ask for drink orders or give a reason why. We left and found somewhere else...

Kristin C.

Yelp
Bartender sucked!! Asked her to change a TV and she just said NO and walked away. Didn't ask us for our order or anything. Would give zero stars for TERRIBLE service.

Edi J.

Yelp
Food is good, bar staff super rude! As soon as I walked through the door, she ask if we need food menu, we said yes, we got a bar set up and then, I proceeded to the bathroom then she said I'm sorry you have to order first, I then gave her my credit card, she still insisted that I have to make a decision then and there. I still stayed and order chicken salad. They told me that they are doing their job. I guess I wasn't looking trust worthy. Edij

Yelp
Popped in here for lunch and it really hit the spot. The burger is as classic as a pub burger should be in the best of ways. Really well prepared, and the potatoes were the right texture and plentiful. And both were even better with the side of bbq sauce I got which you should definitely get too. If it wasn't so pricey for a burger at lunch, I'd say it should be a regular event.
google avatar

Christopher R.

Yelp
Tried to get a table, place was pretty empty, and told I would need to order food. Sorry I said we wanted only beers and I can't sit my party at the bar. Weird. Kinda liked this place back in the day.

Yelp
Stopped in yesterday with a friend for a late afternoon burger and drinks before dashing to Logan; we realized we hadn't been here in ages (probably 10+ years). Sat at the bar, both of us had a few Down East Ciders on tap (perfect on a warm day, but I always forget these have more alcohol than some beers) and I ordered a burger. The burger was pretty overcooked, but I hadn't eaten in all day and was starving (and needed to balance out the drinks.. or at least make an attempt), and the chips were as I remembered them from long ago.

Joseph F.

Yelp
I wish I could rate it less. I can't believe how bad this place is now. It used to to be so much fun. It used to be to have friendly accommodating staff, great atmosphere and reasonably priced food and drink. This place has turned into a"my way or the highway" type place. Can't sit where you want. Can't watch the sports games you want. They take your drink when you go to bathroom. Just terrible! I'll never go back. Willingly.

Yelp
I went here for lunch last week with my coworkers. I ordered the A1 burger medium. The burger came with A1 steak sauce, cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato. The burger tasted good but I thought the burger was a bit burnt. However, I liked the side of Dublin fries(oval-shaped potato wedges). Service was a bit choppy. When it came time to pay the bill, they would only accept 5 credit cards from our group of 10 people. They should have told us in advance. Otherwise, we would have asked for separate checks. It took them over 10 minutes to try to figure out how to charge our credit cards.

Yelp
The bar maud would not put on the Red Sox game. Not only did we have Red Sox t-shirts on, but this restaurant is one block from faneuil Hall. Whoever heard of a Boston sports bar not putting on the Red Sox. They've lost my business permanently

Mary L.

Yelp
Buffalo chicken nachos were awful. handful of tortilla chips with cheese thrown on top. Then add a fried, cut up, chicken tender. Drown in Buffalo sauce. Awful. Get the grilled cheese. Even my 5yo said it had no flavor and won't eat it. The fish tacos looked decent. But all this and 2 cocktails should not be $100. For that there should be some flavor.

Lindsay R.

Yelp
Not family friendly. Tried to sit down and get away from the tourist chaos with my family and was told we couldn't have a table unless we were getting food, I said ok, I am willing to order some food and drinks. Then the waitress/hostess said they didn't have high chairs. I said no problem, I don't need one. Been there before with my family without issue, definitely don't need the attitude. They were looking for reasons not to serve a family and we went elsewhere.
google avatar

Yelp
I saw on their website that the Buffalo Chicken Nachos were $8 on Thursdays as part of their "appy hour". The menu lists the buffalo chicken nachos as being one size, unlike the supreme nachos that come in a personal size. After receiving the bill I saw that the nachos were not discounted. I asked the waitress about it and she very rudely told me I was wrong even after showing her the website. The waitress said that the deal only counted towards the personal size and continued to argue with me. Worst service I have ever received. The nachos also took over an hour because she forgot to put in our order.

Steven T.

Yelp
Based on the food, I'm giving this place 5/5. The A1 burger was pretty delicious and I like the fries. I'd go back again.

Yelp
I came here Tuesday for a quick lunch. I have to say, I walked in expecting average food... I was SO WRONG! Their seared Tuna sandwich and Mario's special (which my boyfriend and I split) were outstanding! Whatever that mustard sauce is that you on there is so good you should bottle it! The Dublin fries are also amazing! Definitely don't judge this book by it's cover, it's under construction and looks very unassuming. Don't pass it by!

Yelp
We had decent service, decent food and the atmosphere was fine. I went with a regular who says that it might not be as trendy as many places nearby, it's consistently pretty good. Pricing was decent as well which is sort of rare down by the "Hall"! Overall I would say that Clarkes has made it to my list of regular spots in this part of Boston. You should check it out for yourself. BTW, we had veggie burger which was very good and a margarita flatbread/pizza that was pretty good as well.

Yelp
I spent my 40th birthday in Boston and wanted to try Boston Steak Tips ($15) and a beer ($6). My first experience at Clarke's was fine. The staff was prompt, the food was amazing, and the prices were competitive. I got my bill and it was tallied correctly ($15 + $6 + tax). The second time I came here, I ordered the Steak Tip Wrap ($13) and a water. The waitress took a while to come to our table, despite the place being empty, but she seemed to be pretty preoccupied with her phone. The wrap was good, though not as good as the steak tip entree, and when she brought the bill over, she charged an extra two dollars for the wrap, before charging tax. When I confronted her about it, she proceeded to treat me like an idiot: "Sir, your meal was $13 plus tax. You have to pay tax." "Yes," I said, "but then you added tax. And I'm fairly certain that Boston's tax rate isn't greater than 15%." The waitress didn't admit to her mistake, yet kept shaking her head and, growing louder and increasingly frustrated, demanded I pay the price on the receipt. Obviously the staff needs to be trained better, or tested for basic math skills. It may be hit or miss, here. If you don't want to deal with being lied to, belittled, and overcharged, there are a million other places in Boston for good steak tips.

Dana S.

Yelp
This is truly the WORST place I've ever been to in Boston. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. We got to the bar on a Saturday night around 8:00 pm, we asked for 2 beers while sitting at the bar. After 2 minutes the bartenders came around and took the beers and said that there was a wedding party and we couldn't drink the beers anymore. The bartenders THEN proceeded to give drinks to other patrons that were clearly not a part of this "wedding party". I would never come back to this establishment
google avatar

Ashley J.

Yelp
waitstaff is rude and unprofessional. Ordered take out here 3/7 and someone answered the phone by only saying hi which should have been the first tip off this place was questionable. Went in to pick the food up and was completely ignored by the woman at the bar (older with dark hair and glasses) who continued to have a conversation instead of actually working. When she acknowledged me I told her about my take out and she pointed at me across the bar down the hall to pick it up. Where someone from over there told me it was back at the bar. Proceeded to go back and get my unmarked take out from the bartender who maintained having a conversation instead of assisting me. Will not be coming back to a place that treats its customers so unprofessionally

Yelp
Considering it's in the middle of tourist central it's a decent place. I had the fish and chips: fish was tenderly cooked, light batter. My only complaint was that the portion was too small. The chips were nice as well, thin, disc-shaped, and golden-fried. The menu is not so creative, mostly typical bar fare. But in any case, it's a decent place. I wouldn't mind going back.
google avatar

Ashley J.

Yelp
A nice bar. We went here for the Sunday football game. The service was great, they were very nice, fast, and attentive. The clam chowder was decent. We also got the ultimate nachos which was a huge portion and good, although not the best I've had. The Bloody Mary was delicious, very spicy. Overall we were happy we stopped in.
google avatar

Steven Z.

Yelp
Came out here after work with a bunch of coworkers and had a great time! They have a bunch of TVs here and they always have some sort of sporting event on. We came with a big party and they were very accommodating! The food here is surprisingly very good! The steak tips were not bad, but the highlight of the meal were the appetizers! The fries, chicken tenders, nachos, mozzarella sticks were absolutely delicious! They have a wide variety of drinks and beers so you will not leave disappointed!

Yelp
Ah, the archaic practice of collecting a cover charge well after midnight from a patron solely because of his penis, and for the exclusive right to not be entertained, but merely drink overpriced calls. See you next Tuesday!

Randy K.

Yelp
Lousy service, lousy food. Stopped by Clarke's at Faneuil Hall, sat at the bar, ordered the steak tips dinner (medium rare) and a coke. Scantily clad brunette bartender got me my coke, put in my order, and then sat down in a booth to talk to either a friend or another employee. Drained my coke, waited for her, but she was too busy gossiping. A guy in a another booth yelled for his bill, he seemed annoyed at her. Another guy at the bar yelled for another drink, he seemed annoyed at her. While she served the guy at the bar, I asked for water. She seemed annoyed with me. Later, the food arrived. Most of the steak tips were inedible. I chewed some tips forever, it was like gum--nothing happening to the chunk of "meat." Some tips were almost completely bloody and raw. Some were lined with sinew. The bartender was still in the booth with her friend. I pushed the uneaten garbage close the edge of the bar to the bartender's side and stared at her. She came over, looked at the plate, made a "funny" face, took it away, rang up my check and wordlessly put it down near me and sat down in the booth to continue gossiping. Lousy service, lousy food. Left a 50% tip in spite of all this. Is this is the new reality?

Yelp
So while visiting Boston We decided to grab a quick bite to eat in Faneuil Hall. Why I picked Clarke's is beyond me! Avoid this place! Whatever made me decide to order a Beef Brisket sandwich in Boston is also beyond me, I think I was really hungry and in a rush to get to Fenway Park. ( I should have waited for the spicy sausage outside the park)There are better options at Feneuil Hall and I should have used Yelp to help me decide, the crowd was over bearing so I made a rash decision. Should have just gotten something to eat at the Ballpark. The Brisket was thick and just sitting in a buffet pan , for how long who knows but when I saw him prepare my bro's sandwich, I should have just gotten out of line. The attendant slapped 4 pieces on a roll and then covered it with BBQ sauce and onions, which caused the roll to rip. It was truly a waste of $12. The fries were not cooked to my liking either, I like them crispy, they were soft and limp. Next you have to find a place to eat which were mostly benches and tables you could stand at and eat with other tourists. The Reading Terminal Market in Philly is way better then this Tourist trap!

Yelp
The bar. Meh. Music a little too loud. The blonde bartender thinks she's a little too cute to be very friendly. Pass.

Yelp
I started working downtown in September and this was the first place my cousin took me on a lunch break and boyyyyyy the burgers in here are amazing!!!!! The fries need some seasoning but it was so worth the trip

Yelp
One thirty on a friday afternoon. I've been out running errands, and now it's time for a late lunch as I realize I've GOT to use a bathroom. I'm near Fanieul Hall and remember that Clarke's has opened back up and I used to go there a lot back when I worked across the street at another restaurant that has since closed. So, I make my way there and walk in the corner door like always, I'm moving pretty quick because I really have to go. I dash in, mask on, black t-shirt, business laptop bag, blue denim jeans, no tears, hoodie tied around my bag, because it turned out to be hotter today than I thought it would be when I left my house, hair tied back. (Yes, I have a house) I turn the corner of the bar by the ladies room headed towards the men's room, and Moria blocks my way. She stops me and tells me there is no bathroom... Ok, there's no bathroom really? She repeats herself a couple times, I repeat myself a couple times. It's a tense moment, my responses are rushed, because I still *really* have to use the mens room. Then, she changes the story - roughly quoted to, "Well, there is a bathroom, but you can't use it" Wow, just wow. Okay, I don't know what kind of issues Clarke's is having with the locals in the area but I'm pretty sure I just dead ass got called a bum and was told I look too homeless to use the restroom or possibly be a guest at Clarke's. I'm now angry, and of course, no longer need to use the restroom. Sooo - With hindsight, and as a PSA to anyone reading - I guess my mistake was trying to use the bathroom before getting a table. Or maybe it was because my shirt didn't have a collar, or the hoodie was tied to my briefcase.. Please don't be me and get a table first so Moira doesn't humiliate you. Obviously I and my dollars won't be returning.

Yelp
Came into Clarke's to grab a couple beers & wings while my wife and her sister attended a Pink concert. Eric & Brian were working the bar on a Monday night; the place was reasonably busy but not crazy. I asked Eric to put the wings order in "extra crispy & mostly flats". Eric told me that he couldn't make any promises on the flats request, but he went to talk to the guys in the kitchen to see what they could do. The order came out all flats! That's a first. I used to hang out here when I was much younger and typically on Thirsty Thursdays. Tonight was a pleasant, mildly nostalgic drop-by a favorite old haunt.
google avatar

Jeremy K.

Yelp
I wasn't in a sober state when we hopped around Faneil Hall and finally made our way there but I can tell you this: - The beer glasses were really, really cold which is awesome - In the back room they have Rock Band 2 That is all. I liked this place, it wasn't bad at all!

Yelp
My husband and I were in Boston for the weekend and decided to stop in to watch the Super Bowl. We were able to get bar seats and with over 20 tvs, the game was visible from any angle. Disappointing draft list (11 beers, nothing special). The food was the saving grace. Heaping plates full of Cobb salad, nachos and chicken wings were all cooked perfectly and large enough to feed a crowd. The blue cheese tastes homemade and was loaded with chunks of cheese. Okay spot to stop for a bite and a pint but nothing special.

Nick R.

Yelp
Food was okay. There were some bowl games on and they had four TVs in a row. We asked if they could switch a TV to a football game. The lady said that the soccer game was on one zone and that they couldn't change it. My father and I were joking with one another because there were us, a group of ladies obviously not watching, and a couple not watching. There was one other person there who we saw ask at the bar about changing the game. Rather than change the games they had him move to an outside table where he could watch a TV with the game. Needless to say he left quickly. The manager or owner must have heard us because she came over with an attitude and was like we are a soccer bar! If you want to watch the game you can move to a table where you can see the screens. I said no thanks. We had 5 people and had already got drinks. It wouldv'e been a pain to move. If I go to a dive bar I want to be able to enjoy a beer and watch sports. If people aren't watching the games that are on I would expect these dive bars to put on what the customers want. If she came over and was more apologetic and didn't have an attitude I would've been okay. I would've also been cool if there were actual customers watching the TVs. This will be my last trip here. Atmosphere sucks, food is par at best, and the management doesn't seem to care too much about the customers.
google avatar

Richard B.

Yelp
Terrible service from bartenders with bad attitudes. With so many bar choices in the area, you'd think they would try a little harder. Seriously, avoid the headache and don't come here....ever.
google avatar

Josep B.

Yelp
If you work in Downtown, this is a good spot for some drinks after work. In my opinion, they don't have a large selection of beers (they don't even have Harpoon, even it's one of the local ones...) and their wine is sort of average or even below average... But the ambience is nice and the service is quite good. Food is average if you are looking for a proper meal. If you're looking for something to eat while having some drinks after work, they offer excellent nachos. If you are vegan, you'll have some difficulties when trying to order something.

Yelp
Clarke's is the best bar in the United States of America. I have never been to a place that is as fun as Clarke's.

Josie M.

Yelp
service was ok the people seemed really nice...but the food wasn't great. The fries were good but the burgers were not so good. The burger was burnt on the bottom. The food was also really pricey for it not to be good.

Yelp
Clarkes comes through again! It's been a month or two since I've been back up here to the Boston office, and wasn't ready for the business travel, but.... After the first day in the office we decided to go see how Clarkes was doing.... We approach the entrance on a beautiful afternoon, and Clarkes has all the big windows to the street opened up wide, and then it happens.. (With an Irish brogue) Hey Mike, and Yankee! Lol we are not regulars, or locals, but they know our names. It's hard to explain, but if you're a business traveler you would understand what it's like to feel welcomed, and at home. Simply Brilliant! The menu changed slightly, and after 4 days of lunches, happy hours, and mid evening bites, all the food was excellent. One new item on the menu is Buffalo Chick Dip with nacho chips. Awesome! The Caesar Salad with Steak Tips is also a great choice. Maura (the BEST GM in the business) makes this place somewhere that you just want return to. (Proper bar goers will understand that) Maura overheard us at lunch on Thursday chatting about getting to a Red Sox game while we were up here, and sure enough, she had tickets for us the very next day for Friday Game. (And I promise you, this had no bearing on my review. They're just good people.) I've seen some reviews with complaints that this place can be negative to some patrons. TRUST me, it was probably the patrons that were the problem. Any other reviewers that want to challenge me, feel free, and be prepared to be embarrassed. We also got to know some of the staff a little better. Nichole is an incredibly awesome bartender, and although she looks 21, she can hold an entertaining conversation with anyone, on any topic, yet is also very mindful to your food and bevy needs. She also holds the bar down like a 50 year veteran. Did I mention she is also just so damn sweet and pleasant? She get 5 Stars alone! Lol Then there's Kristen.... "Warning" "watching Kristen running the bar could cause whiplash" There was something familiar about Kristen, and after one of many fun conversations I found out what it was.... She has work with Maura (the GM) for 11 or so years, so I think Maura rubbed off on her. Trust me, this is a GOOD thing for any bar goer. Kristen is one of the best bartenders I've seen in some time. Extremely attentive to the patrons. At the same time, she has a smile that is actually genuine when she's holding. Conversation with you. Paul, Shannon, Gracie, Maria, and the rest of the team are still here, and making you want to hang out all day, and come back to see them. Gracie- "you want another Miler Lite?" Me- "hmmm" Gracie- "ok" Honestly they are just a Fantastic bunch of people and Great food. Cheers! Mike T.

Yelp
I will start by saying the service was phenomenal!! The food was not so much. We were a party of 8 and all but two were satisfied with our meal. The chicken was tough to eat and the lettuce was not good. Someone in our group enjoyed the chicken tenders.

Naomi L.

Yelp
The food was insanely over priced and my French dip sandwich felt like something I could make at home for like $4. Never had a more disappointing one at a restaurant ever. The beer list is truly awful. Especially when there are so many bars with good beer in the city. They charge $7 for a carlsberg, pumpkin head, or bud light. A four pack of Carlsberg cost around $6, that's an insane mark up. The atmosphere is pretty lacking. I'm really not sure who this bar is for? People who want bad beer and mediocre food for gastropub prices? The service was good though so I do almost feel bad giving it such a bad review. But yeah, I will not be going back.
google avatar

Grant A.

Yelp
Went Saturday night to watch the Baylor game. The wings and nachos were decent. The beer draft list was uninspired in addition to the spirits selection. They didn't have Campari. There was no simple syrup in my old fashioned and probably not any bitter either.
google avatar

Tim B.

Yelp
Honestly just the best French fries you're gonna have in the city. Their other food is pretty good too. But their fries? Next level. Awesome service, no wait, no cover. Make this your first stop at Faneuil Hall every time.

Yelp
Generous portions and great food! Friendly staff and reasonable prices too...especially for portion size!

Yelp
I've never eaten here, only drank, but it's always been an enjoyable bar for me. Never paid a cover or waited in a line. They don't have a dance floor but they have enough space for small groups to stand and chat. Bartenders have always been awesome. Just this past weekend I had the best bartender ever! Refilled our waters quickly and without us asking, and he always noticed when we were down to the last couple sips of our beers and asked if we wanted refills. He also definitely under charged for our drinks, which was a very sweet gesture since we did hang out for a couple hours and order a few. I imagine it was on purpose since he seemed like too good a bartender to forget to ring up drinks. This will continue to be my go-to bar in the Faneuil Hall area.
