Really enjoyed the barbecue today. A nice combination of outer skin and tender meat mixed with a delicious Lexington based sauce. The barbecue slaw had just the right amount of sweet and heat. Next time, I will also try the baked beans. I am looking forward to returning to this restaurant to try other items on the menu. Each day, they have a specialty with vegetables. I remember that being a blue plate special at one time.

I was greeted as soon as I entered. The waitress Louise quickly tended to me. They only had a half rack of St Louis ribs and she went back and forth to see if she can get me a combo of 2 ribs and sub the pork with brisket. She did! 🙂 The ribs and the brisket were delicious, as well as the baked beans, coleslaw and hush puppies! She recommended the peach cobbler which was fresh and hot - just made. Also very good. Highly recommend Clarks Barbeque!

12/13 This place was absolutely delicious—proper BBQ done right! The brisket was A1, perfectly cooked and flavorful. I paired it with stewed potatoes, mac and cheese, hush puppies, and green beans, and every bite was spot on. I’ll definitely be coming back! 12/19 Huge thanks to the team for making things right this time! While I missed out on the brisket, the ribs more than made up for it—fall-off-the-bone and packed with flavor. The cabbage, coleslaw, mac and cheese, and hush puppies were all fantastic. For under $30, they serve up real generous portions. Definitely worth it!

Google
I couldn’t believe how dry the pork was and the dark fried okra was just warm. The hush puppies, shaped like an onion ring, were fantastic, though. The slaw was interesting, with something strong added, like hot sauce. I was stumped how my meal could be so disappointing yet plenty of locals were dining in and getting carryout. My young waitress was very pleasant, asked me a few times if I needing anything else. She did not inquire about my meal, same when the cashier checked me out. I left sad and hungry.

We were traveling and stopped here for a quick lunch. They had a beef brisket sandwich special. Don't sleep on their beef brisket!! The bbq slaw, pintos, and pork rinds were delicious too. The staff was very friendly to top it off. Go check them out!

Google
This was my first time to Clarks. It is your typical Lexington style barbecue restaurant. I chose to get the chopped plate with the Red barbecue sauce and for some odd reason I picked potato salad. The chopped BBQ was very tender animal served with a bit of dip but there was more on the table so I added more later. The slaw was good as expected. The potato salad was Meh. And the hush puppies were those round Little Life saver rings however they were pretty good. And the sweet tea was definitely on point. A barbecue house cannot survive without good sweet tea. The service was very friendly and I'm glad I made it a stop today.

Google
After eating 2/3 of my cucumber salad, I found a dead fly floating in the vinegar dressing. After I ran to the bathroom vomiting, my husband and I brought it to the our servers attention, Showing her the dead fly. No refund was even offered we received a “I’m sorry.” When I say Don’t waste your money I am speaking the truth. The ribs were very fatty and tasteless. The potato salad Was definitely not homemade as we were told it was. 99% of Our meal was left on the table when we walked out. I wish I would have taken a picture before I left, but by the time I came out of the bathroom from vomiting, the waitress had removed the cucumber salad. Signed, Passing through town.

A small local BBQ with Lexington style pit BBQ I visited and ordered BBQ plate it was so very good. The meat was tender and juicy no dry meat here. I ordered the cabbage it was fork tender and fresh would definitely order it again the coleslaw is small diced and has just right flavor and was cool crunchy and fresh. Now what looks like onion rings is thier version of hush puppies was hot and fresh. I was happy to give this place a try and look forward to my next visit in the area. Open until 0900pm check it out.

Yelp
YES! My Daughter was right! This is an amazing place with great food. I now understand why a friend here for only 3 days went there to eat twice. We arrived around 11:00 and there was already a good crowd. My allergies started acting up and I realized it was because of the smoke from cooking. (It was worth it.) Service was great even though I could tell she was in the weeds. Daily special was meatloaf and I was tempted, but I can make it and cannot make barbecue. Barbecue portions were large and I loved their sauce and added some hot sauce on top. Yum! I won't order Mac and cheese in the future because it was mushy and lacking in cheese. I highly recommend this restaurant. I was Very tempted to get peach cobbler. The price was a little too high in my opinion and it's not like I was hungry afterwards. Doggy bag please.

Yelp
A "nothing fancy" place with great barbecue! Lots of side dish choices and all the ones we tried were good. Wait staff was very friendly, no wait to be seated and quick food delivery. We'd definitely eat here again.

Yelp
First visit, came here for lunch. Place was hoppin', yet service was still good. I had the pork plate (chopped course) barbecue coleslaw, and baked beans. The pork had pretty good flavor, but, for me, their vinegar based sauce was a huge miss. I was not a fan of the barbecue coleslaw either, which is made with the same funky bbq sauce. The beans were fine. The side of hush puppies, which looked like onion rings, we're actually very tasty. The inside of the restaurant was old school and not in the best shape, but it was clean.

Yelp
Clark's BBQ has been operating for 30 years or so now, and the quality remains topnotch - in the Pork BBQ, the weekend BBQ Chicken, salads, their Burgers and Hot Dogs, and the daily country cooking specials posted on the chalk boards. They used to serve a mean Southern breakfast, but sadly no more. They produce excellent Lexington style pork barbecue, from shoulders cooked over hard wood coals. The way to order it, IMHO, is the coarse chopped version, either sandwich or plate. I always order the sliced or the coarsed chopped BBQ because, and that gives you the most smokiness, and with the coarsed you usual get some outside brown and a taste of the rub applied at the beginning of the cooking process. This is very good pig, and to equal or exceed the taste you have to go to Lexington or Shelby, though Stamy's whole shoulder comes very close. And they have more to offer: real BBQ Chicken on Fri and Sat, cooked as the pork is, no sweet red sauce in sight; excellent Hot Dogs, up there with the very best in the area (it starts with the great chili); and the Chili Cheeseburger is right there for the same reason; the Grilled Chicken Salad is also very nice; as are the country cooking daily specials, especially the Country Style Steak, though the amount of steak is small; the circular Hush Puppies do not disappoint, has a slight taste of onion; and the Fried Okra is also among the best. The service can be a bit spotty at peak times, and this has shown up more since COVID. The prices are very reasonable, just another reason to EAT MORE PIG111

Yelp
They have great food - variety over and above their BBQ I love love the lunch specials. Service is very good as well

Jim C.

Yelp
I have been there 4 times each time no ribs and out of cobbler and banana pudding today. We ordered 3 meals and an app. to go. We got home and was missing the app and 1 meal and 1 side. Had to drive 15 minutes there and 15 minutes back there to get the missing food. It was not busy when we ordered, only 6 customers were there, 1 server and 1 cashier. Sorry... we and our business up the street will go to Prissy Polly's, no more Clark's mess

Marty S.

Yelp
So I tried Clark's today for lunch. The sweet tea was the best item that hit the table. Service was great. I had the course chopped plate. The Q was ok at best. It was dry but had plenty of smoke flavor. The red slaw tasted like straight ketchup not very good. Okra was good. The hush puppies were ok. The dip on the table saved the day for the Q. There are tons of options around the triad area for Q. Taste this for yourself you may love it just not my cup of tea. 4 star experience Service was great, order was correct, food was hot. I don't give bad stars for flavors of food unless it's just bad food. The experience was good just not the flavors I like.

Amber S.

Yelp
Food was good! Service was fantastic! Place is a total dive which is why only 3 stars. Sticky tables, bottles, walls, gross floors and just overall dingy. But, some of the best food is found in dive joints. We had pork sandwiches and a French fry basket. Our sweet server brought out homemade ranch dressing for dipping, that was a nice treat! Cheap lunch, if you can get past the lack of cleanliness, then this is a decent place to stop for a quick, tasty, filling meal served with a smile.

Leslie A.

Yelp
Ordered take out - simple cheeseburger with tomato onion pickle catchup. Ordered fries and slaw. Received no fries no tomato they added lettuce and mustard. O ercooked taseted gritty and just bad. Never expected or experienced this before all after verbal assurance the order had been checked . Got a gross amount of coleslaw tho. Won't be back after being long time customer.

Monica C.

Yelp
We just happened by and thought BBQsounded good. This place is phenomenal! The service was friendly and fast. The menu has variety and the meat is pit-cooked on site. The sides are homemade and delish! We started with some mozzarella sticks. They were perfect & cheesy! I got the brisket with Lima beans and stewed potatoes. The brisket was tender and perfect. They serve a homemade sauce on the side. It was tangy and a little spicy! The hush puppies were perfectly fried! My husband had the pulled pork with crinkle cut fries and baked beans. The pork was tender and so moist. Again, sauce was served on the side. We shared an extra side of Mac & cheese. It was baked perfect. The meat for both was so flavorful that no sauce is needed, but the sauce was so good we had to use some! Definitely recommend!

Yelp
It was okay. Not as good as my first visit couple years ago. Wife had the taste for some BBQ. Drove over an hour to get there. But we did enjoy the trip, atmosphere, and our waitress. Would we go back? Yes if we were in the area. But wouldn't make a special trip from Martinsville Va.

Yelp
Always on the hunt for a good biscuit for breakfast, I found myself irregularly in this neck of the woods early one morning, and happened to have a breakfast banner catch my eye. Instead of going to a fast food place, I figured, what the heck? Most BBQ restaurants in this area actually have really excellent breakfast, and some of them have the best biscuits around. I pulled into the parking lot and saw that I could order from my car for curbside, so decided to go that route. Called in my order for a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit and a large half and half tea. First odd thing that happened... when I said large half and half tea, she said, "you mean, like a quart of tea?" Not really sure how to answer to this... I said, "Yes...?" And all seemed fine. My order comes out, and I had to have a little chuckle. I guess they dont have large to go cups for tea, but I absolutely HAVE TO HIGHLIGHT THE INGENUITY here. They took a quart size container and plastic lid they would usually put BBQ or slaw in, used a hole punch to make a straw sized opening, and filled it with ice and tea. That earned an extra star. I was very impressed. On the other hand, my biscuit... not great. Burnt on one side, overdone eggs, the bacon and cheese were ok. It was not the best effort I've seen, but I do applaud them for the effort on curbside and the large tea. I think I'd give them another try for a dine-in breakfast some day.

David H.

Yelp
Excellent barbecue and wonderful service every time I visit. I highly recommend Clark's Barbecue!

Derek W.

Yelp
Love this place love their ranch. Great prices for large portions. I can eat on it for days!

Michael B.

Yelp
We've been going to Clark's for over 25 years. It has been great for a long time. They must have a new cook because lately the food has been very subpar. The place needs a fresh start, a thorough cleaning and a new cook

Kate H.

Yelp
Such a friendly waitress. The rib plate was really good and could have easily fed two people. I was a little shocked when she set them down in front of me. I met the sweetest couple that eat there often so I felt really welcomed.

Bo W.

Yelp
Overall, our whole group was disappointed. Most of the food was average, with a few things well below standard. This review is based on food, service, cleanliness, atmosphere, and value. As mentioned, the food was a miss. I sampled almost all the meat offerings, and most of the meat was average BBQ fare, but hinged on the dry side. Course chopped bbq was a thumbs down. Chicken was okay. Mac&cheese was a complete and total fail. Okra was previously frozen. I didn't care for their sauce. The slaw was cabbage in pure vinegar, nothing else. Couldn't stomach it. The pork skins tasted burnt, as if they were deep fried in old, burnt oil. They went straight to the trash. The service was good, best part of the experience. Cleanliness was lacking. We were seated at a dirty table. The menu was sticky, floors were gross... The cleanliness standard also was enough for me to not return. The atmosphere was similar to most old BBQ restaurants. The value was also a miss. This place is expensive, considering the quality of product.

Tracy A.

Yelp
Great food-tried the chopped BBQ, okra, greens, hush puppies and all were great with very nice staff

Jacob C.

Yelp
Great food, got that tang if ya know what I mean. the sanitation of the general restaurant eating area could use some work imo, and the people are crazy in a good way. will eat here again. i will say however, the restaurant itself could really use a makeover of sorts. maybe a repaint, idk. chow.

Mike S.

Yelp
Great tasting barbecue. Large portions. Service is excellent. Fair price. Other non barbecue items are available.

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
I've been eating NC barbecue since the '70s. I used to drive to Lexington for barbecue, but now I can get my fix locally at Clark's. The servers are always nice, too.

Al E.

Yelp
This really isn't bbq. It's cooked meat but not more like in an oven . No bark on the meat. Otherwise the food is good but I'm not sure where the smoke smell Comes from when you pull up.

Sarah W.

Yelp
I love to see a vintage brick building with a barbecue sign! This place delivers that small hometown hole in the wall with delicious bbq! Onion rings were fried and breaded perfectly, they have loads other veggies to choose from. Short staffed but still had a full tea glass- I'll definitely be back!

Jim K.

Yelp
Clark's Barbecue serves up ver good Lexington style BBQ. I stopped in for a sandwich and order of hush puppies and was very pleased with both. Clark's has been smoking their bbq since 1993, but I'd swear the place looks like it's been around for much longer. That's a compliment. Clark's is a NC BBQ joint, not a newfangled smokehouse. I ordered my sandwich fine chopped: the original Lexington style of chop. They offer bbq chopped fine, course chopped, or sliced. Despite knowing the Pork was smoked, it didn't have much smoky taste. I think that has much to do with the fine chop of the meat. It was very tender and moist and combined with their red slaw, was an excellent sandwich. Next time I'll order the course chopped which may contain more outside brown which should impart more of a smoky taste. Personally, I consider sliced bbq to be a waste of a perfect good pig and twelve hours..... Clark's wins the hushpuppy competition around these parts! A unique onion ring shape, these puppies have a sweet, slight onion flavor that is delicious. Lightly fried, they are approaching cornbread cake. Other than my own, I've only had one other hushpuppy I like as much, but I can't remember where that was. Dang...Definitely order the 'puppies, and remember where you got them!

Jason D.

Yelp
It's good affordable food but I wouldn't call it BBQ . Had the Chicken & Ribs and they were both cooked in a oven. No Smokey flavor or bark. Mac n cheese was watery . The smell in the parking lot is amazing but that's just false advertising. No Smokey meat here . food was pretty good beside the mac/Cheese but not BBQ.

Dustin M.

Yelp
Clark's is an excellent choice for bbq when in or around Kernersville. Their bbq has a nice flavor and it's not drowning in sauce. The sides they offer here are phenomenal. I haven't had one yet that I didn't enjoy. Btw the sides change daily. Give their hush puppies a try also! They have a few other items on their menu for the few that don't enjoy bbq. They have a nice rotating selection of homemade desserts as well. I have been to Clark's many many times and never left disappointed. The staff here is always friendly and provide excellent service. They have a large parking area as well that is suitable for large trucks.

Susan J.

Yelp
Clark's has a great variety and delicious home cooked taste selections. Hush puppies are great too. Servers are very sweet.

Milan N.

Yelp
Clark'a BBQ is right down the road from my work. When I feel like I need a bite of the south or just feeling the need for BBQ, this is my spot. All original flavors and smoke and their breakfast is my favorite thing in the morning. From Tenderloin biscuits with a fried egg, or a Livermush biscuit with a fried egg, extra crispy with mustard and mayo. As a foreigner, I thoroughly enjoy the beauty of the south and the food it offers. For lunch I love going with chopped or coarse BBQ with hush puppies, fries and coleslaw. Definitely a great place for traditional bbq.

James S.

Yelp
I'm doing an updated review on Clark's since it's been a while since my last review and I think that the food has improved. The parking lot is still gravel and it's still very hard to get into and out of this place. The building is looking a little dated too. They no longer offer breakfast. That said, the Q here is good. Tender and full of flavor with some smoke. Get the coarse chopped Q and be ready to be wowed. The large sandwich is enough for anybody. The portion sizes are large. Hush puppies have gone to a new high and are really good. Some of the better ones I've had. They now have several choices for burgers. The cheeseburger steak sandwich is a force to be reckoned with. It's huge! If you get this I'm certain you won't leave hungry. It's cooked to order so it's always fresh tasting juicy and delicious. Foot long hot dogs are now on the menu also. A real nod to the past. Daily specials posted. They now have curb service. This is so convenient if you need to grab something and run. The service is still hit and miss but has been ok for the most part. I find myself here quite a bit lately. The food has really improved.

Yelp
Sometimes luck is with you and you just happen onto a great thing. That's how we wound up having dinner in Clark's barbecue in Kernersville North Carolina. Stuck in traffic on I 40 we got off to avoid spending time sitting in traffic. We approached a business that said "Barbque". Notice I said approached, I never pass a barbecue joint. Well, we ventured in, sat down and were given menus. The menu is simple, mostly lists and talks about their incredible BBQ. Our waitress was a sweet helpful and friendly local with a Pennsylvania background. We ordered barbecue chicken and ribs. Unfortunately they were just out of ribs so we won't with the pulled pork. As luck would have it that's what we should've ordered to begin with. We got sides of cabbage and coleslaw. If you've never had cabbage In a barbecue joint, you really ought to try it. Well the chicken was incredible. The skin although not crisp was really good, full of smoke taste from slow cooking. The pork was incredible. Moist and smoky, It was as good as it gets. Finding Clark's barbecue just proves that sometimes you just get damn lucky. Getting ready to leave, Im ready to pay, sweet girl who was acting as cashier, her grandparents live in Lincolnton North Carolina, thanks us for our patronage. I picked up a copy of the to go menu and she jokingly asked if I was going to give a good review: honey here it is, Clark's Barbque is as good as it gets.

Shannon N.

Yelp
Great food, easy online ordering and super friendly staff makes this a great local spot.

Julianna A.

Yelp
Their breakfast is absolutely delicious! We've ordered numerous items and they were all very tasty

Terry P.

Yelp
Great bbq and so many sides. I eat here at least once a week. And yes I get the chopped plate with 2 sides. The hush puppies are great with their honey butter. As for the waitress Louise , she is awesome.

John F.

Yelp
Everything from the bbq to the daily specials are worth your attention. Especially the half bbq chickens on Friday and Saturdays. But come early so you don't miss out. This is truly a gem in Kernersville. The staff is fantastic and will make you feel like family. There's a reason the parking lot stays full.

Helene P.

Yelp
Great bbq. Large helpings and great service. A+ in an easy to reach location. Brisket is fantastic.

James H.

Yelp
Nothing fancy, good local bbq. Same variety as most bbq restaurants. I wouldn't make it a destination, but a good spot to get a quick bbq fix.

Terry M.

Yelp
BBQ is always on point. I stop everytime I'm in the area. Do yourself and your stomach a favor stop in for the best BBQ around. Bonus the sides and desserts are amazing as well.

Morgan A.

Yelp
Although I'm surprised I hadn't been to Clarks before, I will definitely be back. Got lunch for 2 under $15 and our waitress, Sabrina, was amazing. Their hushpuppies were some of the best I've ever had and my husband said he could've eaten his weight in their lima beans. Daily specials & vegetables are listed on a chalkboard as you walk in but their menu has PLENTY of options to choose from.

Anthony K.

Yelp
The service was great ! And the food was cooked amazingly... Love it I will recommend this great eating to the world thanks Clark's barbeque for the amazing food

Carmine C.

Yelp
Sliced pork. Rib sauce. Hush puppies and you are set. Sides are good. Pit cooked. Yum.

Marie S.

Yelp
Fantastic vinegar based barbecue my favorite! The okra is cooked perfectly and so fresh! I ordered to go the lady at the register was excellent she was helpful then when I ordered and changed to okra instead of fruit she was still friendly!

Jerry C.

Yelp
Best hot dogs and crispy fries anywhere! Friendly service and a great menu!! Home cooked veggies and great BBQ!!

Aaron T.

Yelp
Clark's is a great quick bbq spot. Love the chopped pork sandwich's with the bbq slaw. Now them onions rings hold that warm crispy crunch hours later. Amazing. The hush puppies are a must. Waiting to find out when they have the brisket. Love some brisket.

Burp M.

Yelp
Delicious ribs. Dipping sauce is worth trying as well. Hush puppies are over fried but it's not the main course no one cares haha. Cabbage is on the sweet side.

Brian C.

Yelp
Lunch Aug 13 Stopped in a grabbed a Pork Sandwich & a lemonade to go for a quick lunch. Man oh man for a total bill of $6.81 I got a sandwich so big I had to push it down to fit in my mouth! The pork was smoked perfectly and was so flavorful, without even having sauce. The Coleslaw on it add a nice texture and a sweetness to the smokey flavor. Sandwich and drink for $6.81 and it nearly filled me up? AWESOME!

Karl K.

Yelp
When I arrived at Clark's, a sign announced that I should seat myself, so I did a lap through the crowded restaurant only to discover that every table was either occupied by people or by the debris left by people who had finished eating and left. I returned to the entrance area to wait, and a server came up to me and suggested that I sit down anywhere I like. I politely said that all the tables that were open were covered in food. She said sweetly: "that's OK. Just have a seat and we'll get to it." No thanks. I'm not sitting down at a table with half eaten food rotting in front of me while waiting for someone to come clean it up. So I waited. There were only two servers, and since the place was full, they were pretty overwhelmed. But eventually they cleared me a table. No worries. I ordered the chopped plate and several sides. BBQ: The barbecue was tender and juicy and had a nice flavor, but lacked smoke. I had been really been optimistic that it would be smoky, because hickory smoke was heavy in the parking lot. But it wasn't in the bbq. Sides: The potato salad was very good, with nicely textured potatoes, and the correct amount of relish and onion for crunch. The bbq slaw was too acidic, and the coleslaw was bland. Stewed cabbage was literally just steamed cabbage and was incredibly plain. Hush puppies had a lovely flavor, but were a little greasy on the exterior. Sweet tea was decidedly average. Servers were nice but were unable to be properly attentive because they were too busy. Price was a little high. This is just another clone of so many North Carolina barbecue joints that I have been to. Packing in the locals for unremarkable food.

Linda D.

Yelp
Remember when your parents and teachers taught you not to judge a book by its cover? That definitely applies here. While it does have that standard Lexington-style barbecue look to it, for those that don't see this is a sign of yumminess inside, trust me when I tell you that its whats on the inside that counts. Good old-fashioned barbecue places are hard to find. So many of them are trying to be trendy and more mainstream, but Clarks knows thats not what really matters. Inside you find good people serving good food. Whether its chopped barbecue, a quarter of a chicken, or a hot dog, there's something for every member of the family. Beans, slaw, mashed taters, mac and cheese, fries, and some damn good hush puppies add to the delicious meal. Need to feed a group? Staff lunch? Family get-together? Feed them Clarks!

Bry M.

Yelp
Very close to I-40 which was why I stopped in for lunch on Saturday while heading home from work. I had the chopped pork sandwich with the "red slaw"...I was shocked when it came out wrapped in paper without a plate and the fork came in a random plastic bag?!? Tea is good and the sandwich was decent doused in the vinegar hot sauce on the table. I'll be back to try the chicken next time after seeing so many patrons having it after I ordered. Update to follow. All in all not a bad place to grab a bite but very old school with extreme no frills vibe!

John C.

Yelp
I had a fantastic visit to Clark's BBQ for an early dinner before heading to a graduation ceremony. My server, Hannah, took excellent care of me. Her service really made this a five star visit. I ordered the course chopped plate and it came with fries, slaw, and hushpuppies. The pork was awesome. I really enjoyed the big pieces and didn't even need to add sauce. Of course, I did and everything worked out perfectly. The fries were crispy and well seasoned and the hushpuppies were great (especially with the honey butter that Hannah brought out for me). I will definitely return to Clark's in the future. It's worth the drive from Winston-Salem.
