This was a really fun find. The restaurant feels like a mini history lesson in midcentury Taiwanese culture. I loved the classroom desks and seats, the glass cases full of old toys, and magazines and other memorabilia on the walls. I would go back just to take in all of the things on the walls.
The menu was a bit bewildering. You can get a combo of one food from group A and another from group B. Some items from group A and B were available a la carte, but others weren't. If you want lots of vegetables and few carbs, this is not the ideal place to go. You can get baby bok choy and various iterations of tofu a la carte, but most of the items are noodles or rice. I ordered the beef noodle soup. As I had hoped, the beef was tender and generous. The broth was not as complex as I anticipated, but it was still pretty good. The baby bok choy tasted like it was boiled separately, and it didn't take on the flavor of the broth. I liked the chewy noodles, but my mom didn't. My mom seemed to enjoy the miso seafood noodle soup broth, and the seafood itself was also generous. Something didn't agree with her afterwards, though.
The bathrooms were clean and well-stocked. We ordered at the counter and got a buzzer, but the staff kindly brought our trays to the table. Overall, I enjoyed my visit. I might go back to try the boba tea.
