"Class of 47 provides reprieve for those in need of a good drink and good company at 9 a.m. on a Tuesday. It’s a favorite watering hole for executives, fishermen, and surfers alike to come together and watch sports, although John Wayne is the only regular former patron honored with a shrine." - Jordan Morosco

Google
5/5 stars! This unassuming hole-in-the-wall bar is a masterclass in understated excellence. From the outside, you'd never guess the treasure trove of awesomeness waiting inside. The staff, led by the incomparable Sheila, are the epitome of friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is electric, with a unique blend of laid-back vibes and energetic enthusiasm. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this hidden gem is an absolute must-visit.

Fun neighborhood bar. No food was served.

I have frequented this bar for 20 plus years, and I have always enjoyed the establishment. The staff is amazing, the locals are always a lot of fun. Great drinks, wonderful atmosphere, but my first experience with was a bartender named Trish. Her sense of humor, professionalism, and vibrant nature is sorely missed. Especially on the weekends.Used to be one of my favorite weekend hot spots. I wish everyone well at the class of 47’.

Google
Nice bar right by the Balboa ferry. They have a limited selection of drafts and bottles available. I didn't try any cocktails but the bartender was very friendly. This is pretty much a locals bar so it's pretty cool. They a pool table and music. Check it out!

Google
Class of ‘47 is literally the best bar on the peninsula! When my boyfriend and I visited here from Boston in February Trish was working and made us feel like instantly like home. She truly is one of the reasons that we moved to Newport! Her hospitality and unmatched personality is contagious. Trish always remembers everyone’s name, drink and a little tidbit about themselves… She is truly one of a kind and the reason why we keep going back to Class of ‘47!

Google
Had a great time playing pool and drinking here after a long day at the beach. The bartender was extremely kind, knowledgeable and attentive to all her guests, I believe her name was Trish. The bouncer John is a hard worker and very professional. The older regulars were extremely nice and made me feel welcomed. The younger regulars here however have some serious issue with people that don’t look like them. Such a shame, I was really looking forward to making this my frequent spot anytime I’d be in the area… I guess not :/

Google
Tacos sooo delicious really high recommend it

Google
The bar had a good vibe and we had a great time The bartenders were amazing and made very delicious green tea shots. They were pleasant to talk to you as well as everyone else in the bar.

Yelp
Lauren is cool you get 25% if you check in on yelp !! Great to step in ,for Newport Beach area

Yelp
Well, gotta say $11 for two REALLY GOOD Bloody Mary's earns 5 stars right off the bat! I already want another one. This is the best Mary I've had in years.

Elba G.

Yelp
This dive bar is your typical local spot with regulars and a sprinkle of people that are not from the area. It's more of a late 20s - early 40s vibe. If you're looking for that wild and crazy bar experience, I don't think this is the place. This is more of a casual chill laidback type of place. They offer pool tables, ok music and great service. The bartenders are friendly and actually make drinks super quick. Food isn't served BUT they have a pop up taco partner outside which is suuuper yummy. I'd come back if I was in the area. Wouldn't go out of the way for this place.

Yelp
Awesome Bar! Kind , courteous and FUN ! Bree snd Ashley are awesome!! Came back everyday! Love Newport Beach and Class of 47 !

Jill C.

Yelp
Ashley is a gem and the Bloody Mary mix she makes is fantastic! Definitely stop by for a great dive spot.

Kristella P.

Yelp
Really cool dive bar with pool table, warm vibes, and good crowd. Cool atmosphere and decor

Yelp
Balboa's finest divey Sports bar right here next to the Fun Zone on the peninsula. A quick ferry ride away from Fashion Island or 15-20 mins from the end of the 55 freeway. Easy parking here and across the street, and the bartenders and super chill. A couple of pool tables, and feels like American Sprit in this spot. It's almost like you can feel the history here. I think John Wayne used to stomp around here back in the day. Highly recommended good vibes here at Class of 47 and they go til 2am. All the bartenders are super chill, don't listen to the reviews of the guys who drink too much and pop off here with their keyboards.

Papa G.

Yelp
Sweet spot to grab a drink if your bike riding up the coast. Cool people strong drinks and great views. They have plenty of TVs for Sunday football and even Nascar. Plenty of places near by to order some food and sometimes they have a Taco truck . Best to ride a bike there because parking does get tight. Our goto when we are in the area, near the ferry also. They have 2 pool tables and a jukebox.

Yelp
Awesome place, great atmosphere. Used to really enjoy Saturday nights hanging with Trish, she's the best bartender ever.

Autumn R.

Yelp
WONDERFUL ESTABLISHMENT! I had my drink spilled 3 times! Finally asked for support from the bartenders, and was told "please ask on the first attempt and we will take care of the situation sooner" I then explained that this was the 3 time another customer (the same one) spilled my drink and they offered me another drink and said "we will remove her from the bar" she was removed and then 3 MINS later was let back in to "use the restroom", after using the restroom she came up to the bar, slammed into me and said "so I'm being kicked out bc of this" AND POINTED AT ME We then finally left and took our business elsewhere. As we wanted to from the first incident. Of note: our friend got kicked out for "swaying" and this girl was allowed to stay bc "she's in the industry" What a way to represent the business. I'm never one to leave a review but what a birthday celebration and what a way to do "business"

Yelp
Welcome to the $10 plain Bloody Mary! Pint size everywhere else with celery and olives etc. I wouldn't go there again.

Brian P.

Yelp
Super fun dive bar. Great bar tenders. Not sure what else I can say but Yelp wants me to type more.

Shauna L.

Yelp
I love this bar so much, nothing but good vibes amazing people and amazing staff. Natalie is literally the best bartender I've ever had, I will recommend this spot to every person I know just so they can experience how amazing she is. Thank you for being awesome 47!!!!

Tina P.

Yelp
Great little cozy local place for a cocktail, after a great bike ride. The locals are all friendly. The staff is amazing Natalie,Ashley,Travis,Mikey,Joe,Yvonne, love them all. Always have a great time when I pop in.

Harry H.

Yelp
Amazing Bar with Great people! Definitely worth the trip down. There is a cool taco stand outside if you get hungry too!

Yelp
We came to this bar on a spare of the moment with a big group. Class of 47 is located just West of the Balboa Fun Zone Ferris wheel. Parking is South of the bar across the street. There are canopies, tables and chairs setup outside so we were able to sit down right away. I don't know if this setup will be permanent. My guess is this setup was during COVID. During our short visit one of the staff members came over and helped us setup some chairs and tables for our big group, and even went out of his way to get us another umbrella since we were partially being hit by the sun. My only complaint was that we weren't getting any service outside. I kept seeing the staff members pass us by, but there wasn't anyone waiting on us. We proceeded to ordering our drinks from inside then taking our drinks outside. The pro to this was that the bar was being super efficient and making the drinks quick. The bar was fully stocked with different beers to drink like, Stella Artois, Heineken, Blue Moon, and Coors Light and not to mention the tons of liquor bottles they also had in stock like scotch, tequila and vodka's. They also had two pool tables with a few TV's setup inside and some TV's outside as well. Overall the bar was very clean and cozy. We look forward to our next visit here next time we are in Newport Beach.

Yelp
Cool place. Was super crowded 4th of July weekend!! The older shorter female bartender was not friendly at all and seemed like she hated her job!! It was cool to check out one time as a visitor. Did not feel welcome at all.

Molly H.

Yelp
I love this bar!! Natalie dealt with a customer who was incredibly rude to me and my husband with patience and grace and as a bystander, I applaud her. Trish, Lauren and Travis, Ashley, and Holly are legends, and are some of the greatest bartenders I'll ever know. I highly HIGHLY recommend getting to know the people that work here.

Jessica W.

Yelp
We are locals and live a block away. We have tried to chill in this bar a handful of times and each time there is an issue with bartenders just being plain rude. Last night we went in to have a drink to celebrate our daughter's graduation after a long day of preparation and just wanting a few drinks my husband ordered a beer I ordered a whisky sour. Took a sip and detected no alcohol meaning no smell and zero taste I asked my husband to try it and he agreed there was no alcohol we simply told the tender this does not seem to have alcohol and she rudely grabbed my drink and drizzled a clear alcohol not whisky in my drink and said there. We felt uncomfortable the guy next to us slid a $50 and said I got their drinks that when she came back and said oh are they complaining AGAIN? we said we are fine and slid the guy back his $50 that's when she proceeded to harass us personally so we paid and left. Bummer these guys are such dicks.

Yelp
The fun never stops at Classy 47, even when you think the night is dead it's not. It's so lit there are 1 dollar bills on the top of the bar. Come get your ones ladies!! Yes if your into dancing this place has a Juke Box, this place never upsets

Jarrett S.

Yelp
This bar had a very fun and welcoming atmosphere. The bartender was very kind and got all of us our drinks within moments of walking in. I'd highly recommend stopping by this place if you're in the neighborhood.

Reyna G.

Yelp
Class of 47 is a staple, and to come in and have our friend treated in the manner she was treated, is absolutely disgusting! I am horrified at the behavior of this establishment. Never again! She was the only one carded in a group of white women, mind you, she's in her mid 40s. Then the bouncer proceeded to be extremely rude. If you're not white, stay away.

Ren K.

Yelp
5-8pm on 01/11/2022 I couldn't believe how amazing the bartender was today... Definitely recommending this place being one of the best spots in Newport Beach.. she really brings the fun into the fun zone... Always great music and a great vibe she's worked here about 20 years Beautiful and full of life. Not only does she bring life to the place but she actually cares about the people who come in. This place is great for everyone of all ages above 21 Great drinks, pool tables.. and of course fun conversations with her.

Rachel D.

Yelp
Didn't even go drink here- they were offering $50 all day parking which I paid. I asked where to park and they waved their hand in a general direction and said park behind this car. They told me to park in front of 2 other cars, blocking them in and that it was ok. I leave for 2 hours and come back- my car is towed. I try to ask the manager what happened and get information, she was very rude and told me I needed to leave before she called the police. I asked if I can get my $50 back because my car was towed and I paid for parking, she said it was not their issue. I asked for the number of the place and managers name and she said she will Google it for me " since it seems to be so difficult for me to do myself " never ended up giving me the owners name. Horrible scam from the pub to make a quick buck, lack of empathy from management, and they seem to not care once the money is in their hand. Steer clear.

Daniel J.

Yelp
Highest priced drinks in Newport, rude service, and a sign that says "covid/monkey pox may be present, enter at your own risk

Ella B.

Yelp
I was waking by this bar and the bouncer outside grabbed me and told me to come inside as I'd be a "big hit" in the bar. I said no thank you I'm going home and I'm not old enough to drink. He kept me outside for a long time and wouldn't let me leave. Such a weirdo. Def won't go back when I'm 21. The bouncer was wearing a fishing shirt and was blonde ish. Creep.

Javier M.

Yelp
Was looking for a bar to go to in the Newport area and while most were temporarily closed down we noticed this place was open. Didn't know what to expect exactly since I have never dived in to much night life in the Newport area. But to my experience: Nice cozy atmosphere, friendly faces, great Beer!

Adam T.

Yelp
What an amazing place! I wish i would have more days to stay here! Nothing is perfect, but all of my nights here were perfect! Best place to meet and feel local lifestyle! Keep going and good luck i ll come back one day to see if my dollar bill is still sticked on the wall! Especially there is pair of perfect security guys Mike and Glen i had chance to met there. Theese boys are very responsible and if u think u not gonna have fun at night, just bring your ID and talk to them. Thank you guys!

Yelp
What's not to love about the Class of '47, the bartenders are fantastic, even if one can be a little cold at times, the vibe is chill, and the music is usually on point. There are two entrances, one in the SE corner and the other on the opposite side in the parking lot. The bar is not large, and the majority of the space is taken by two pool tables that sit in the center. The bar rests on the south side and has a smooth wood laminate top with a large, comfy padded elbow rest that also serves as a rail. A brass footrest sits in the bar in front of round, well-padded stools. The back bar is nothing special, mostly merchandise, taps, and a window with HDTVs hanging above. Along the east wall, there is a large ledge with stools that kinda serves as a one-sided table, while the west wall has a large, social stationary table with booth seating and a few wooden bar stools with back support. Photos of The Duke line the bathroom hallway. No matter the time of day, the mood is typically relaxed with many regulars. Plus, they've handled COVID very well, setting up in the parking lot and partnering with a local business to serve food.

Liz G.

Yelp
This place has done a great job dealing with COVID-19. Outdoor patio in the parking lot serving up great adult beverages and tasty food off the grill. Love all the people that work here. Ashley is so awesome and funny. How can you not love her. Natalie is so on top of things each and every time making sure you are happy and satisfied. Just one issue - If only they could prepare the food a little faster than over 30 mins. In there defense, they weren't a restaurant to begin with.

Aaron J.

Yelp
Great bar. Such a friendly neighborhood feel here. The owners are awesome people. Very down to earth. It gets pretty busy. it's a great place.

Angelena J.

Yelp
Great pours and good prices! This was our first time here. It's quaint, and the bartender, Ashley, was super friendly and attentive! We would definitely come here again!!

Alfred Y.

Yelp
I came out for Sunday Football. Came across Class of 48 Outdoor seating with T.Vs out for the games. Came across The Townsend Cookout located outside as well. Such a great family. I ordered the Chicken Taquito's!! Those are game changers im telling you!! Do yourself a favor and order yourself some!! You won't find anything like it around Newport. I will definitely be back for these taquitos. Service was great bartenders and music was great were great all in all was a great Sunday!! Big shotout to Mrs. Cathy, Devale, Nick and Devale JR!! You guys are the real MVP!!

Rosie H.

Yelp
It's a total dive bar and it's awesome. Located in the fun zone. The place opens at six in the morning! The place is pretty basic with a bar, two pool tables, booths and tables, digital jukebox, and a clean bathroom. Lots of characters and locals that are regulars. Friendly folks, all looking to have a great time. Plenty of parking across the street if I'm there for a little while otherwise I can pay $20 to park in the back all day long. Go grab food to go from a nearby restaurant, bring it here to munch on while watching any game possible on the several television screens, and have a drink.

Colin S.

Yelp
Love this place. Local spot I stop by every time I come to Newport. The bartender Trish... she is perfect.

Yvonne C.

Yelp
While attempting to escape from some of my family members on a family vacation, I hunkered down in Class of 47. Right away I felt comfortable and the bartender was cool AF and so were the patrons. She said she gets a lot of people running away to catch a break from family. It has that dive bar smell of stale beer and bad decisions but I really loved is that it reminded me of Moss Landing Inn, with their dollar bills pinned to the ceilings.

Marquee M.

Yelp
I like this spot! I'm always on the peninsula and so I drop in from time to time. Pretty dope decor. It has the vibe of a neighborhood bar like the classic show Cheers. Locals are friendly. One time I met Dennis Rodman here and he offered to have a drink with me! You can write your name on a dollar and post it to the ceiling. Stop by and chill.

Angelica R.

Yelp
Class of 47 is a classy bar. I came to visit and Holly was the bartender. Talk about cool, she was so fun to hang out with, and entertaining and poured good drink.

Krista T.

Yelp
Worst bar ever...I walked in and had a beer, the bar tender yelled "you can't be in here with that," while the 50 year old fat bouncer lunged at me and grabbed it out of my hand...... it was a super moon. I was watching the moon. I planned on double fisting it with my purchase from the Class of 47. Could've said get rid of it, and I would have happily bought and and drank one there.... or many. A little uptight if ya ask me...... aggressive.... #oldpeople #lame #bye

Sage T.

Yelp
BEST SPOT IN NEW PORT! Everyone got hats, complimentary Jell-O shots, hot spot with a Dennis spotting, great food, and even better company....Johnny And Pat are the absolute bestttt

Kaylee O.

Yelp
A good dive bar with good vibes & good people! Loved the music, the fun aesthetics, & that they had pool tables. If you're from out of town & looking to have a fun time meeting new people this is a really great option! Lauren was our bartender & made sure we had drinks in our hands at all times.

Reagan V.

Yelp
Best bar in Newport. Friendly bartenders and quick service. Went to play some pool with friends, watch football, and have a few drinks. Definitely somewhere casual to hang out. Felt like I was in Louisiana!

Sanam N.

Yelp
This place has moron bouncers. They took my friends real IDs claiming they were fake without even scanning them. Actual morons and were so fucking rude. They tried to tell my friend who was born in 1997 that she would have graduated in 2005. Fucking idiots

Matt S.

Yelp
First time here ever. Great atmosphere! Trish was the bartender. Super nice! She killed it! We'll be back!

Lisa S.

Yelp
My drink tasted like syrup. It was overwhelmingly sweet and a neon color. We went to play some pool, with country music blasting in the background. A bunch of biker dudes were in the corner, and one was sitting on the table. A guy in my group asked him to move, and he refused. It was quite awkward. After a few minutes of trying to maneuver around him, he decided to move of his own volition, but it was still rude. I didn't win the game, but that wasn't surprising, because I'm not a big pool player. The clientele here was strange. There were young, geeky looking kids, preppy people, biker-esque people, etc. It wasn't at all homogeneous. It also got really hot in the space. I started sweating so much that the hair at my neck was wet, and I had to go stand under the air conditioning unit to cool/dry it off. It was an interesting hour or so, but this wasn't my scene.

Kim H.

Yelp
Cool dive bar in Nepwprt down by the Balboa Pier. Pool tables for those who want to play pool. Small parking lot for customers. Stiff drinks cool peeps. It also was one of the local watering holes thst John Wayne used to drink at and you may spot Dennis Rodman here now. Can't compare the two lol.

Forever F.

Yelp
Okay so I really liked this spot! We wandered in because my BFF had to pee! And thank goodness for her bladder because we stumbled into quite a treasure trove! The music was great! There was a bunch of happy drunk guys singing at the top of their lungs which made for great atmosphere :) And of course my favorite not 1 but TWO POOL Tables!!! Yaaaayyy!!!! Bartender was nice & has a perfect pour!! Slrrrrpp slrrrrp!!! And guess what else??? upon my yelp "Check In" i was offered a $20 for $10 deal which I took full advantage of! Thanks Yelp! People were nice chatty friendly too :) there was even a cool photo booth. And the barback was kind enough to get me a menu from next door ( PattyMac's) This was a great way to start out our visit to Newport/ Balboa Island today! Thanks Class of '47 you guys do actually have a lot of CLASS for a dive bar by the beach!!! Enjoyed myself completely! And thanks for keeping pool under $1 @ 75cents per game! You rock !!!

Jaymie N.

Yelp
Place is cute but Trish, is like a short stop wanna be jersey shore characters who thinks she's the main character
